Behind The Blog featuring Simply Sorcha…

Hi everyone, happy Tuesday!

As I am still recovering from my weekend trip away to the beautiful, fun island of Ibiza, I’m afraid I haven’t had time to schedule a blog post for today.

What I have got for you however, is the virtual sit down I did with the gorgeous Karen from Confetti & Curves Blog. If you missed my post talking about this a few weeks ago you can read it here.

But more importantly, I’m so thrilled to say my interview is now live on Confetti & Curves so please have a read below and let me know what y’all think!

And don’t forget to drop over to Confetti & Curves and check out Karen’s lovely blog.

Simply Sorcha

If there is anything certain in the universe, it’s that Ireland is undoubtedly swarming with glowing pink bodies today (appearing semi-radioactive) from what can only be described as the mini heatwave which descended upon our bank holiday Monday. What a scorcher it was as back gardens & beaches were crammed with budding barbequers relishing in the sun rays, enjoying their burnt hot dogs & cider. I on the other hand was inching around the shade – wilting like an extra from Bram Stokers. Needless to say an Ikea parasol is the most life saving investment I’ve ever purchased, and if you’re pale skinned you’ll more than understand 😉 On a slightly different note, my new summer sandals arrived and they are THEE comfiest things I have EVER worn. Seriously, they really are! *happy sigh & happy feet* 😀

Ooh talking of happy, I’ve yet another cheery blog buddy to introduce y’all to today as the gorgeous…

Ibiza Fridaygram

Happy Friday from sunny Ibiza! I hope it’s a lovely sunny day wherever you are too, and if not, then at least the weekend is almost upon us!

With all the gorgeous weather we’ve been having, I’ve been snap happy on my phone and camera over the past two weeks since I last shared a Fridaygram post with you all. I’ve revisited my favourite place in the world, Ballymaloe House (which is also where Dave and I got married), I’ve been out for some lovely meals, have been running in the sunshine, and now, am in Ibiza.

So if you’ve missed out on my Instagram photos, or if you’re not yet following me over there, then here’s a look at all the pretty pictures I’ve been sharing…

It’s amazing how much better your photos look with a bit of sunshine. Whilst one or two of these pictures have been borrowed from Pinterest, they all give the same message – it’s summer!

Hope you all have a fabulous Friday.

My Holiday Beauty & Accessory Essentials

Well holiday day has finally arrived, yay! As you’ll know if you’ve been reading my recent posts, I’ve been planning for this trip for quite a while now between trying to be healthy and losing some weight, to planning each outfit meticulously in order to be party ready.I’ve never been to Ibiza before and have heard so many great things about the old town where we are staying, not to mention some of the incredible sunsets I’ve seen pictures of on Instagram. I’m pretty sure every evening we’ll be found in one sunset bar or another sipping cocktails while watching the sun go down.

When I get home from my trip next week I’ll share some of my outfit and makeup looks with you, but for this post I thought I’d share some of my beauty and accessory must haves for my holidays and what I’m bringing with me:

PARASOL SPF Sun Lotion – Obviously the most important thing when going away to somewhere hot is having good UV protection.  I use Parasol Sun Care and have done for several years now. It’s an Irish brand so apart from supporting Irish, it’s the best sun lotion I’ve used. What’s more, you only need to apply it once a day, what more could you want?!

For my face I usually use a brand called Heliocare as it’s the best I’ve come across for face protection. However, I’ve read a lot of good things about this La Roche-Posay Anthelios face cream so for this trip I decided to try it out. I’m using SPF 30 so I’ll keep you posted on what it’s like.

Apart from face protection, I always buy separate lip protection too as I have very sensitive lips that tend to burn easily. The one I use a lot is this SPF 30 Lip Protection balm from the Boots Soltan range. It has great lasting power (even if you are sweating in the heat!) and doesn’t taste bad on your lips either like some other lip SPFs that I’ve tried.

The Nivea Soothing Aftersun lotion is by far my favourite aftersun. It contains Aloe Vera, has a lovely creamy consistency and is super hydrating for the skin after a day lying in the sun.

I have thick, curly hair and because of that, my hair is prone to getting very dry in the heat. I came across this Heat Defense spray from TRESemmé last summer. I was surprised to find that it kept my hair nourished and shiny so needless to say it’s going in my wash bag again this year.

I’m a big fan of Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream, I think it’s safe to say most beauty lovers are. I always have it in my handbag, and it’s great on holiday to relieve any insect bites or sunburn.

To remove my makeup at night, I’m bringing the new Garner Express 2 in 1 Make Up Remover. I haven’t tried it before but have read good reviews, plus it’s mini size so it’s perfect for travelling. I’ll keep you posted on what I think of it.

As mentioned above, my lips can get very dry in the sun so I’m bringing my Elemis Lip Revive balm to keep my lips soft. I use Eight Hour Cream on my lips too, but as the Elemis balm is also mini size, it’s a handy one for the handbag in the evening!

My Dr. Obagi Oclipse Sunscreen & Primer is what I wear on my face everyday. I am so particular about my skincare routine and use all Dr. Obagi products which I may have mentioned before. This primer is SPF 30 and is also tinted so great for holidays when you don’t want to wear makeup during the day.

Lipstick, oh lipstick. My favourite! Many of you will already know that I’m obsessed with lipsticks, they are just my ‘thing’. In fact, on occasion I have been known to pick the lipstick colour before the outfit. Does anyone else do that?!

Anyway, I’ve packed three of my favourite lipsticks, MAC Lady Danger, MAC Love Goddess (from the Marilyn Monroe collection), and YSL Le Orange. I also got a new lipstick for my trip called Relentlessly Red from MAC’s Retro Matte lipstick collection. This shade is literally my dream, I honestly don’t know how I haven’t come across it before now but I’m very excited to try it out. Can you tell I love orange and coral shades by the way?!

Every trip to the sun requires a pair or two of cute sandals but if I’m being honest I’ve actually packed five pairs, not just the two in this photo. I’m only going for five days so I know, it’s ridiculous. I know. But I just couldn’t resist, you’ll never know when you might need them, right?!

These two pairs are from Penneys and New Look, and apart from being very inexpensive, they are very comfortable too.

I’m an accessories girl at heart and as mentioned before, the theme for this trip away is Boho Chic. I’m a sucker for statement neck and head pieces, and there are so many great accessories on trend for this summer. I’m particularly loving H&M’s Coachella collection which is where the neck piece and floral head bands are from.

DVF. Need I say more? My DVF cross body mini bags are life! Big enough to fit all your essentials, small enough to throw across your body and go. My black one comes pretty much everywhere with me, and my bright coral one is a must for any trip to the sun.

Lastly, I’m taking these amazing body tattoos which I picked up from the H&M Coachella collection also. The little stars are super cute and will be a great addition to my Boho theme. My sunglasses are from H&M and Penneys.

Before you say it, I know, I’m bringing quite a lot of stuff for a five day trip. And that’s not even half of it. I’ve always had a tendency to overpack and I’m sure this time is no different, eeek! But what the hell, better to be safe than sorry.

Ibiza here we come…

My Faves Part 5: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick

It’s that time of the week again where I talk about some of my favourite makeup and beauty products and given that the sun has been shining all week, I think today is the perfect day to tell you about one of my all-time favourite lipsticks, YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Shade 13, Le Orange.

I have been wearing this shade for about three years now, and in the summer it never leaves my makeup bag. As the name suggests, it is a vibrant bright orange shade and gives your lips the perfect pop of colour for sunny days or summer nights.

The Rouge Pur Couture range of lipsticks have both satin and matte finishes, and this one is a soft satin. It is super hydrating and moisturising, and it smells absolutely divine. I’m kind of weird when it comes to lipstick smells, I could happily sit and smell them for ages (don’t judge me!).

Now YSL lipsticks can be a little on the pricey side at €33.00 a pop, but as I went to stock up on another one for summer the other day, I realised Debenhams currently have them on sale so if you love these lipsticks or want to give one a try, you can currently get them for €26.40! Trust me, this is a bargain.

My Top 12 Summer Holiday Buys

I know I may have mentioned it once or twice already but, I’m off to Ibiza on Thursday, yippeee! As you can tell I’m very excited, mainly because I’ve never been to Ibiza before, but also because I can’t wait for a bit of sunshine and to spend a few days away with my siblings. It’s been forever since we’ve done something like this so I’m really looking forward to it.

Anyway, if you read my post on Boho Holiday Outfits last week, you’ll know that the theme for the weekend is Boho Chic. Why a theme I hear you ask?! Well one of my sisters is celebrating her birthday over there so we’ve got lots of great events and parties lined up which in turn means lots of great outfits have to be planned.

My outfits are slowly starting to come together, thankfully made easier by the fact that there are just such great things in the shops at the moment. From accessories, to sandals, to dresses, even to fab holiday makeup, I had to drag myself away from so many things I wanted to buy.

That’s not to say that I won’t buy them at some stage though, every girl needs a wish list in my opinion so here’s a look at what’s on my summer wish list, and my Top 12 Holiday Buys for this summer…

Rust Maxi Dress H&MDenim Jumpsuit H&M

Gold Gladiator Sandals River Island / Straw Bag H&M / Holly Sandals Michael Kors

Floral Print Jumpsuit ASOS / Printed Floral Midi ZARA

The Shore Bondi Rose Sunglasses SHEVOKE / Cosmetics Bag ASOS

Field of Dreams Sundress Seafolly / Tropical Trikini Swimsuit ZARA

So there you go, just some of the things I’m lusting after this holiday season. Now all I need is to get bikini ready so I can wear and buy them. While that’s not going to happen for my Ibiza trip given it’s only two days away, I’m keeping them on my list for a holiday coming up later in the year.

Also, if you’re a complete social media addict like me then you might be interested in this fab back up phone charger I recently bought from one of my favourite online shops, It’s the perfect summer accessory if you plan on being snap-happy on holiday just like me!

Quick & Easy Daytime Eyes

I don’t know about you, but when I’m going out during the day to an event and know it’s going to run into the night too, I always try to match my eye makeup to the occasion.

It’s not always easy to achieve a day-to-night eye look, there can be a fine line between just enough and overdoing it when it comes to daytime eyes, so I tend to go with deep shades applied very softly so that they are strong but not too dramatic.

On Saturday, we were out for a Christening, it was a sunny day so I wanted soft makeup, but I knew it had to last all day and night too.

Taking my new favourite eyeshadow palette, the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani palette, I decided to opt for a combination of cream and burgundy to give me just a hint of a smokey eye that would see me through until the early hours.

The two shades I chose were Blonde and Punk:

This look is so easy to achieve, especially if you’re pressed for time like I was. I began by applying Blonde all over my upper eyelid and crease to give a base coat to the eye. I then applied Punk to the inner crease, upper and lower eyelid, blending as I went. In order to ensure a strong, even blend, lastly I added just a touch of Zone to give a soft, warm feel to the eyes.

A quick swipe of eyeliner and mascara and I was ready to go.

This eyeshadow palette is absolutely amazing for pigment and longevity and hence why it’s my current favourite. My eyes lasted well all day and night, and as I opted for this look not to wear kohl liner on my waterline, I didn’t need to touch it up once!

Fabulous Friday

Image: weheartit

It’s Friday, most people’s favourite day of the week, and definitely mine. As you’ll know if you’ve been following my blog, I’ve been going through a bit of a difficult patch of late but I’m happy to say that the clouds are finally lifting.

It’s been hard to stay positive, it’s never easy being cheerful and optimistic all the time when things are tough, but I got through it. I’ve no idea what the future holds, which is exciting and scary in equal measure, but I’m embracing the change and looking forward to new adventures.

The news that I haven’t been able to share up to now, is that I’m going to be finishing up my job at the end of June – giant EEEK! I’m going to take a few months off to write and blog, and dedicate more time to doing the things I love. And while I’ll be on the hunt for a new job throughout, the prospect of having a summer to myself is simply thrilling.

Image: weheartit

It’s been years since I took some time off, it’s a rare thing in this busy world we live in, so needless to say I’m very excited. And what’s more, I’m off to Ibiza next week for a long weekend and I can’t wait to feel the sun on my face, sip cocktails by the sunset and kick off the summer and new adventures in style.

The older I get the more aware I become of time; the time we  have to live carefree, the time we have to do the things we want to do, the time we have to live. And I just want to make the best possible use of that time before Dave and I do the other things we want to do like buy a house and have a family.

So here’s to making the most of our time.

I wish you all a fabulous Friday!

Boho Holiday Inspiration & The Dreaded Bikini Body

This day next week I’m heading off to Ibiza for five days for my sisters birthday. I’ve never been to Ibiza before so naturally I’m very excited, and the fact that we’re going with my siblings, partners and friends makes it all the more exciting.

There will be lots of events going on over the weekend from sunset drinks to pool parties, to dancing the night away so I’ll need lots of nice outfits to wear but I’ve yet to decide on what they are going to be.

When I began my holiday shopping a few weeks back, summer maxi dresses, florals and Boho vibes greeted me in almost every store which was perfect as the theme for our party weekend is Boho Chic. The only problem is, I’m not exactly what you would call bikini ready. I’ve got a good bit of weight to lose, and although that’s the story of my life, I’m so tired of walking into my favourite shops and walking back out empty handed because nothing fits me properly.

I know I’m not the only one that struggles with my weight, it’s like a never-ending up hill battle, and if I’m honest, I’m dreading wearing scantly clad clothing and showing off my arms and legs. But I’m going to try put all of that to the back of my mind and embrace some of the boho vibes on trend for this summer.

As I’m not too sure where to start with my outfits, I’ve turned to Pinterest as I so often do, for some holiday inspiration. I’ve created a Boho mood board to help me decide what kind of looks I want to go with and this is what I’ve come up with…

Now I have the inspiration – if only I had their bodies too! 🙂

My Faves Part 4: YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Mascara

Every Wednesday I do a beauty review, not on new and exciting products, but on my old favourites. The products that I never go without, that are always in my makeup bag, and that have seen me through a lot over the years.

If you haven’t read any of ‘My Faves’ posts yet, I’ve talked about the Eve Lom Rescue Mask, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish highlighting powder, and NARS Orgasm blush. Today I continue the series with my ultimate favourite mascara, the YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils mascara.

Now, I actually am a big fan of a lot of mascaras, so you’ll probably find me talking about many different mascara products over the next while, but this one is my ultimate, ultimate favourite! I always come back to it, always have one in my makeup bag and it never lets me down.

First off, I love the gold packaging that it comes in. It’s got a metal feel to it rather than plastic so that makes it a winner anyway for me.

The brush head is straight which is becoming more unusual with mascaras, a lot of brush heads now tend to be curved but I’ve got to say, I’m a fan of the straight brush. The bristles are soft so they don’t hurt your eyes on application, and they give your lashes a lot of volume with just a few strokes.

I like a good amount of mascara on my lashes so I do dip the brush a few times during each application, but by doing that, my mascara lasts all day long and my lashes look much longer than they actually are. And let’s be honest, that’s pretty much what we all strive for when it comes to lashes. Well, I do anyway!

All in all, this product does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s volumising, long lasting and makes your lashes look fab. It’s priced at €32.50 and while there are other great mascaras on the market for cheaper, this one is definitely worth the spend in my view and hence why it’s this week’s My Fave Product!

50 Things That Make Me Happy (Part 2)

I first did this post last month, where I wrote about 50 Things That Make Me Happy. I had such great feedback from so many of my lovely readers, that I’ve decided to make this a monthly addition to the blog but in order to shake it up a bit, and make it different to my original post, I’m going to focus on the particular things making me happy this month.

I’m going through a transition period at the moment, and in times like this, my anxiety levels can become high, I’ve begun to notice it slowly creeping in over the last few weeks so in order for it not to overwhelm me, I need to surround myself with nothing but positivity and mindfulness.

So in order to help me do that, and to spread the Monday Motivation love in general, here’s a list of 50 things that are making me happy this month…

  • Cocktails in the sun
  • The sun
  • Walks in the park

It’s amazing how easily it is to smile when you sit down and write out all the things that make you happy. So often we focus on the negative aspects of life just because it’s easier to do that. Negativity is such a powerful feeling and it’s not always easy to banish it from your mind. But this definitely helps!

Happy Monday all… What’s making you happy today?
