Let’s Get Social

So as you may know by now, I’m a big fan of Social Media and I’ve written a similar blog post to this before. But, let me tell you why I’m writing a social post again.

I’m one of those people who probably spends a little too much time on my phone, but what I’ve learnt over the past eight months of blogging is that your blog is really not going to amount to much without the help of social media. Pretty much all the bloggers I follow utilise it to help their engagement and followers to grow, and really when you think about it, it’s a great way to get exposure for your blog.

If you’re a blog starting out this year however, the social media world is against you. Both Facebook and Instagram have introduced new algorithms which make it so much harder to gain followers or likes, and sometimes I feel like it’s a constant up hill struggle. But I solider on because ultimately, having multiple social media platforms has really helped me to grow my following so far which I’m very grateful for.

But every so often I do wonder how many of my social media followers actually read my blog posts. Do you read my blog posts? I really hope you do!

I think I was a bit naive at the beginning of my blogging journey because there is so much more involved than just writing. I love writing, but I’ve also had to learn about photography, social media, theming accounts, becoming a brand, discovering how much or how little of myself I want to share with the world, and mostly I’ve learnt, how important social media engagement is to your growth. The whole experience has taught me so much that I didn’t know before.

And that’s where today’s post comes in. If you’re going through the same struggles as me, and finding it a bit tough to grow your social media presence, then let’s get social. Let’s have each others backs, connect on social media and share the love. I want to come follow you, and I’d be so happy if you could please come follow me too.

Here’s where you can find me:

Facebook

The good old reliable that is Facebook. I share all my blog posts here as well as letting you know about places and spaces I’m visiting.

Instagram

Instagram is probably my favourite of all because I love pretty pictures. I’m not a great photographer or anything, but I’ve been learning loads about theming and colours so I think I’m getting a little better.

Twitter

Twitter is great for instant conversations, and I love tweeting live when there are big things happening like events or launches.

Snapchat is coming a close second favourite behind Instagram lately. I love the instant interaction it gives you with your followers. I share lots of videos on products, what I’m up to and my daily musings.

Pinterest

I’ve always been a fan of Pinterest for inspiration and my Pinterest boards are a collection of all the things I love from beauty looks, to outfits, to yummy food and spectacular spaces.

50 Things That Make Me Happy (Part 5)

It’s that time again, the time when I share all the things making me happy. Since my first happiness post which I wrote a few months back, I’ve received some lovely feedback from you all on how much you love reading these posts and how they make you think of all the things that make you happy too.

It’s so easy these days to get caught up in stress, in bad days, in money worries, in day-to-day mundane moments, that sometimes we forget to focus on all the positive and good things in our lives. We all have bad days, we all have struggles, we all have worries, but for me, I’ve found that by taking time to think about and write down all the things I’m grateful for, it’s easier for me to have a positive mindset.

I’m a firm believer in the law of attraction and getting back what you give out in this world. I’ve experienced first hand the benefits that practicing gratitude can bring many times over, particularly over the past few years, and therefore I try and practice it as often as possible in my daily life.

And while there is so much more involved in gratitude practice than just writing one blog post a month, this is my way of sitting back and reflecting over weeks gone by and being thankful for all the good things that I experienced.

So here it goes… All the things making me happy this month, part five:

  • Walks in the park
  • Girls nights out
  • Stickers
  • Water (the drinking kind)
  • Meditation
  • Makeup brushes
  • Lip balm
  • Sunny days
  • Telephones (for allowing me to speak to those far away)
  • Love

  • White nail polish
  • Travel quotes
  • Fruit (particularly berries)
  • Taking trips down memory lane with old friends
  • Laughing
  • The 90s backpack revival
  • Writing
  • Waterproof mascara
  • Holiday research
  • Sing songs

  • Staying up too late
  • Light weight t-shirts
  • Colourful flowers
  • Budda
  • Trips away with great friends
  • Face masks
  • Neckpieces
  • My new adventure camera for travelling
  • Long breakfasts with my parents
  • My new agenda

  • Dewy makeup
  • High heels
  • My new Lumee phone cover
  • Not having to wear socks
  • The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight
  • Birthdays
  • Nice pens to write with
  • Max Benjamin Stick Diffusers
  • Meeting and chatting to fellow bloggers
  • Family events

  • Gilmore Girls boxset marathons
  • Cocktails
  • Hugs from my hubby
  • Long drives
  • Sunsets on Dun Laoghaire pier
  • Snapchat filters
  • Playing and spending time with my friends little ones
  • Lunch dates
  • Booking hotels
  • Cosy nights in on the couch

As always the things I’m most grateful for are the people in my life and the little things that sometimes I just take for granted. My incredible family, my amazing friends, my wonderful hubby; all the things we are doing, all the memories we are making.

I’m not always positive, I have my bad days like everyone else. But no matter how bad our day, our week, our month, or no matter what is going right or wrong in our lives, there is always something positive if you just look hard enough. As the old saying goes; there is always, always something to be thankful for.

What’s making you happy this month?

Travel Thursday: 8 Weeks To Go, Help!

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you will know that shortly I am heading off on a very big trip. A trip that let’s be honest, I had no idea would take place this year, but somehow the stars aligned and it is really happening. Eeeek!

I know many of you will have heard me talking about this already, it’s not really new information, but last night I endured the stark realisation that we are leaving in less than eight weeks. Eh, what?! I don’t know where the Summer has gone to be perfectly honest with you, once I finished up work at the end of June I had so many plans and now it’s almost the end of August and I’ve only achieved about half of my goals.
But sure look it’ll be grand, there’s nothing I can do about that now, and now that our trip is so close, it’s time to forget about Summer goals and start planning for that. But, by planning I’m not actually talking about the trip itself, that’s all done and dusted (being the organisation freak that I am). The planning I am actually referring to here, is, wait for it… PACKING.

Packing. Where to start? What to bring? How can I pack for a whole two months and not bring every single thing I own?! I’m one of those ‘just in case’ people, you know the ones who bring everything away just in case they need it and it sits at the bottom of the suitcase for the whole trip? Yep, that’s me.

I’ve travelled before, I spent almost ten months travelling the world about six years ago, so I should be a pro at this stage. But, things were different then, I was backpacking, I was on a budget, and anything that came with me was basic, multi-purpose, and cheap. But not this time. This time it’s not just backpacking, it’s suitcases, it’s hotels, it’s nice restaurants, all of which mean I will need nice clothes, good makeup, clever accessories, great books, and even a pair of shoes or two.

Now, don’t get me wrong, this trip is not going to be all luxury, no. It’s going to be a mixture of budget and beautiful, and therefore I need to plan everything meticulously.

So this my lovely readers, is where you come in!

I need your help. I want to know all your must haves for travelling, the good, the bag and the ugly. I have a fair idea of what I need but the best advice anyone can get is from those who have been there, and done that. So, please, please, please help a sista out and let me know the following:

  • What was your must have makeup for travelling?
  • Any skincare you couldn’t live without?
  • Did you regret not bringing something with you?
  • Best books to read while seeing the world?
  • Your favourite item you brought that you used over and over again?
  • Best piece of advice you were given about going on your trip?
  • One thing you couldn’t have survived without?

I need every little morsel of information you have, stories, products, tips, whatever.

If you have specific tips for the places we’re going to which are Bali, the Gili Islands, Australia and Thailand, then please send them my way too. All the info on our trip is in my original travel post which you can read here if you want to know all about it.

I’m so looking forward to reading your comments, tips and stories, I would massively appreciate it if you could comment below with them all. MASSIVELY!

So on that note, I shall sign off and await all your comments with baited breath.

My Faves Part 11: Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

As many of you will know by now, I often write posts about my most-loved and most-used beauty products as part of the ‘My Faves’ series, and today I want to share my love for Clinique’s Moisture Surge with you all.

This product has been on the market for quite a long time now so many of you may know about it already, but I’ve just recently rediscovered this in my bathroom cupboard and remembered just how much I love it!

For those of you not familiar with this product, Clinique describe it as a gel-creme, which I would say is very accurate, and it is one of the best face moisturisers I have ever used. Firstly because it does exactly what it claims to do, and secondly, because it leaves my skin feeling smooth, hydrated and gloriously plump.

The key ingredient in this moisturiser is Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural component of the skin that is now used in many cosmetic products. It is known for being super hydrating because of its ability to retain extremely high levels of moisture, therefore allowing for quicker, deeper moisturisation of the skin.

Many of you will know by now that I suffer from dry skin and I’m prone to dehydration quite often. As a result, I’m quite strict with the type of skincare products I use because let’s be honest, there is nothing worse than a dry, dehydrated face. But any time I use the Clinique Moisture Surge my skin feels A.MA.ZING! Even after just one day.

There are so many things this product claims to do that I feel its justified in stating so let’s run through them quickly:

  • Hydrating? Yes, every time.
  • Moisturising? Absolutely.
  • Reduces fine lines? You know what, it really does. Now it doesn’t get rid of them of course, but the ability it has to plump out the skin means lines really are reduced.
  • Firming? Well, maybe not quite firming, but plumping definitely.

While you can use this gel-cream both day and night, I tend to use it at night time after taking off my makeup to give my skin a real boost of freshness, and also because it needs a little drying time. But, the minute you apply this on your face it feels better, and when I wake up in the morning my skin is always as smooth as a baby’s bottom!

Yes, as mentioned above, I suffer from dry skin so maybe the results wouldn’t be as dramatic if you have a normal, combination or oily skin type. But if like me, you’re always looking for good hydrating products then this is really worth a try. The only downside to this if I really have to pick one, is that it doesn’t contain an SPF. But if you wear a separate SPF or your makeup contains one, then you don’t need to worry.

I can’t believe I forgot how much I liked this product. I definitely won’t be forgetting anytime soon again that’s for sure!

Have you ever used this? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Monday Motivation

Well hello to all my lovely readers, it’s been a long time since we’ve talked. Ten days to be exact. Ten days since I last wrote or shared a blog post and the longest I’ve ever gone without saying hello and sharing my thoughts with you all on my little blog.

It’s been an interesting week, I was away then I came home unwell, my anxiety decided to rear its ugly head again, and I just really needed some down time. I forget sometimes that I’m just the kind of person who can’t let things spiral out of control, and I don’t mean having fun and letting go. I mean being so busy that I don’t take time to breath, to relax, to sleep, to rest. I don’t do well in times like that so sometimes, I just need to remind myself of that.

Last week was one of those weeks. I needed some time out, I needed to rest, I needed to get back into my normal routine, I needed to have a good long talk with myself and say enough is enough!

Does anyone else go through times like this? When there’s so much going on that you feel like you’re losing control and need to take a step back? Maybe it’s just me…? As I’ve said many times over the past few months, this year was always going to be a transition year for me, and while that’s incredibly exciting, it’s also sometimes scary, and overwhelming.

But I’ve paused, I’ve rebooted and now I’m ready to get back into the swing of things. There’s lots of exciting things happening over the next few months so it’s time to knuckle down and face it head on.

I hope you’ll continue to come along for the ride!

Friday Feeling in Kerry

It’s Friday, the best day of the week and also my favourite day. But this week it’s made even better by the fact that we are in beautiful Kerry for the weekend.

It was my birthday yesterday and I had such a lovely day, and today I’m very excited to be continuing the celebrations over the weekend.

Image: The Europe Hotel

We’re staying in the stunning Europe Hotel & Resort which overlooks the lakes of Killarney, but more importantly we are going there to celebrate my amazing friend Jess’s 30th birthday.

If you read my travel post yesterday, you’ll know that us and all our friends packed up for few days and made our way to Kerry for one big party, and we can’t wait!

I’ll report back next week on how we got on as well as sharing all the hotel details. I’ve stayed there many times before and absolutely love it, so I’m pretty sure this time will be as good as it always is.
In the meantime if you want a sneak peak, don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and Snapchat (@imsimplysorcha).

Happy Friday!

A Different Kind of Travel Thursday

Over the past few weeks Dave and I been away on a few little mini breaks, but this time rather than us heading off on our own, these trips have been spent with good friends and family. As someone who loves going away, and loves seeing new places, I’m always excited to head off on an adventure whether it be near or far, for a night, or a week, but trips I get particularly excited about are those spent with friends and family.

You may have heard me mention last week that we spent a couple of days in Spain over the August bank holiday weekend with some of our closest friends. There were ten of us in total, plus their babas, and it was one of those holidays where you really sit back and take stock on how important friends are. I love my friends very dearly, we have all been friends for an incredibly long time, we’re in similar stages of our lives and it’s wonderful to be able to share these stages together.

Long breakfasts in the sun, kids playing in the pool, lunches al fresco, BBQs and wine, endless amount of chatting, laughing, joking… What more could you want from a holiday? Nothing in my view. It was the perfect few days away, and made me very grateful for the amazing friends I have in my life, those who were on holiday, as well those who weren’t.

After only being home from Spain a few days we set off on our next adventure which was a weekend away with Dave’s family. His two brothers, their wives, their kids and his Mum. It’s a little tradition that they began a few years ago and it’s one of the things I look forward to most each year. As someone who’s siblings all live away, I have really learned to relish and value the time you have together with family, and this weekend was one of those times.

We were staying in apartments which were part of a hotel and they were lovely. There were great facilities for the kids, the boys had golf, and us girls had chats. Lots of chats, a little bit of wine, but mostly chats!

With all our lives being so busy, it’s so rare that we get to spend quality time together catching up, reminiscing, telling stories of old, talking, laughing, doing all the things that make being part of a family so wonderful. It’s one of those moments when you think to yourself, why don’t we do this more often? Because you have such a great time, and you realise how great being with your family is.

Tomorrow, for our third weekend away in a row, we are off to Kerry to celebrate one of our dear friend’s birthdays. It’s a big birthday, so our entire group are packing up and heading down there for a weekend of celebrations and quality time. Knowing my friends, it’s going to be a weekend to remember, as our time away so often is.

There will be laughing, there will be drinking, there will be singing, there will be dancing, there will be joking, there will be gossiping, there may even be a bit of crying! But one thing I know for sure is, it will be special, it will be brilliant, it will be memories in the making.

Because isn’t that what it’s all about really? Sharing your life with family and friends, making memories, celebrating life, enjoying the good things, being grateful for each other, and most of all, being happy?

I’m sure you all know by now how much I love travelling, I’ve spent much of this year visiting new places, and my travels don’t end here. But nothing can compare to the travelling that you do with those you love most.
