Review: Lidl Beauty Collection Launch

I was recently sent some new products by the lovely people over at Lidl who this summer have launched a new Cien beauty range. I’m all for a good budget beauty buy so naturally I was excited to give these a try and see what they were like.

The range is quite expansive with products for the face, eyes, lips and nails, including a BB cream, four eyeshadows, two mascaras, six lipstick shades, six lip gloss shades and six nail polish shades, so there is literally something for everyone here, particularly if you don’t want to break the bank on your beauty purchases.

First up is the BB cream, which at €2.99 is definitely a bargain, but is it worth it? Well, it contains SPF 15 which is a great start, and also claims to conceal, smooth the complexion, reduce wrinkles and provide 24 hour hydration. Here’s what I think…

The cream is quite heavy and thick which made me very dubious when I first applied it, and because of that, you do need a good amount to enable you to blend evenly on the face. However, I was surprised to find that it does actually leave a nice smooth finish to the skin and the coverage doesn’t feel too cakey which I thought it would given the texture.

As you can see from the before and after below, the coverage is subtle, but it’s supposed to be with a BB cream, and I do like the finish it gave my face. I’m wearing shade Light which might be just slightly pale for me, but it also comes in a medium-dark shade.

Before
After

Word of warning here though, if you have dry skin, it may be problematic for you. My skin is on the dryer side, and I did find my face felt just slightly tight when wearing this so it may be better suited to those with normal to oily skin types.

Next up is the eyeshadow which has four shades in the range and costs only €1.99. The two shades I was sent to try were Rose Garden, a kind of blush pink, and Brilliant Brown, which is a lovely soft gold brown, but there is also a creamy nude and electric blue shade available.

The first thing I loved about these eyeshadows was the amazing oriental style print on top of them, I mean how gorge is that? So gorgeous I almost didn’t want to use them and ruin the look, but needs must and all that.

The pigment on these shadows is really brilliant, especially on the Rose Garden shade which has a gorgeous shimmer finish to it. This would be perfect to highlight the inner corner of the eye, or as a blending shade for a soft nude eye look. I’m also thinking this shade would work well as a highlight blush on the cheeks, which is another positive to add to the list. The brown was more of a gold colour once I swatched it, but I was still very impressed with the pigment.

Two mascaras were introduced in the range, a volume mascara, and a waterproof mascara, both of which cost €2.49. I tested out the waterproof mascara to see what it was like but it took me ages to get any of the mascara on to my lashes. I don’t know if the formula is very thick or whether the tube isn’t full, but it was almost as if the actual liquid only covered the tip of the application brush.

So in order to get any kind of colour or volume, I had to use the tip of the brush to apply the mascara on to the lashes a few times, then had to blend it in. The end look isn’t bad, it has very good staying power so if you’re in the market for a new waterproof mascara then this could be worth trying. The application was just a bit messy for me however.

The last item in the range I have to show you are the lip glosses which let me tell you, are an absolute steal at €1.99. Now, if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I love all things lips, and these lip glosses are a winner for me.

The two shades I have are 10 Glitter Pink and 11 Frozen Ice, both of which are quite nude on the lips. They both have a glitter / shimmer finish to them, which normally wouldn’t be my thing at all, and the Frozen Ice shade is probably too glittery for my taste.

The photo below shows the slight difference, the top photo is Frozen Ice which has much more glitter:

But the sheen that the Glitter Pink shade gives your lips is to die for, it has less glitter and is not sticky at all. Because let’s be honest, there is nothing worse in this life than sticky lip gloss that your hair catches to every five seconds!

I think Glitter Pink could become one of my new go-to nude gloss products from now on, especially given its amazing price point. The other shades in the range are darker plum and red tones and if Glitter Pink is anything to go by, could be lovely on the lips too.

So there you go – some yays, some nays, but pretty good overall for a first collection. All the Cien beauty products are available in store now at Lidl.

Review: Bourjois City Radiance Brightening Foundation

Last week if you read my Budget Beauty Makeup post, you will have seen me writing about the Bourjois City Radiance foundation. As I mentioned in that post, I’ve seen lots of my favourite beauty bloggers talking about this lately and giving it lots of high praise, so I’ve been dying to see what all the fuss is about.

A few weeks back when in Boots, I picked up my own tube to try it out. There are six shades in the range and I opted for shade 03 (light beige). Although I have a lot of freckles on my face (if you follow me on snapchat you’ll have heard me ranting about that!), my skin is quite sallow with a gold/olive complexion to it so I tend to go for shades that have a slightly gold or yellow undertone rather than pink undertone.

I applied a pea size amount to my hand to get an idea of the texture and the first thing I noticed was that it is very light weight. Not watery, but thin, meaning you only need a very small amount as it is super blendable. I found the pea size amount was plenty to give me a light, even coverage – exactly what I was looking for.

Now, I’ve read on other reviews that the staying power varied on people but I have to say, the five or six times I’ve worn it now, it’s lasting pretty much all day long. I’ve worn it with and without primer, and yes without primer it does tend to leave the face a bit quicker, but not quick enough that it would stop me wearing it.

Before
After

I love a light coverage in warmer months, in Summer I tend to only wear liquid foundation if I’m going out at night, but this foundation seems to be a nice happy medium as you really don’t feel like you’re wearing a heavy liquid foundation when it’s on your face. Plus, it contains SPF 30 which is always a bonus and it really lives up to its claims of being a brightening foundation too as it leaves my skin looking quite dewy. And we all know I love a nice dewy glow!

I’m not sure I would wear this as much in Winter, but overall I’m very impressed and will definitely keep using it for light coverage days.

The even better news about this foundation is the €13.99 price tag which to me really is a bargain. You can pick it up from Boots or any other Bourjois stockists.

Wedding Memories with Social & Personal Weddings

A few months ago I got contacted by the lovely people in Social & Personal Weddings magazine to ask me if they could feature our wedding in their Autumn issue. They had seen some of my wedding posts on the blog and loved the photos, so needless to say I was very honoured and excited.

While I can’t take any credit for the beautiful photos which were the work of Moat Hill Photography, I have to say looking back on it all now, I’m so happy with how the day went. Yes there are one or two things I would change – I’m sure most brides feel that way about at least one thing a few months on – but overall, it really was the best day ever.

Surprisingly enough, today marks eight months since our wedding day, so the magazine feature is nicely timed. I am super happy with the piece which came out a few days ago in Ireland and it’s lovely to have as a memory of our big day too.

A lot has happened since we got married, we’ve visited and travelled to many places, I started this little old blog, I’ve changed jobs… None of which I ever could have dreamed of happening before I became a Mrs.

Our plan was to make our first year of marriage as fun, as crazy, and as full of adventure as possible and so far I think we’re on track. The next few months will be equally busy, my sister is getting married, we’ve a few more small trips in Ireland planned, and then of course our big trip around the world is happening where we will celebrate our first wedding anniversary on a beach in Thailand.

I’m so lucky to have had such an incredible few months, and I’m so grateful and thankful for it all. I always knew getting married would be amazing, but life after it has been pretty damn amazing too!

Hello August, Hello Blog

Image: WeHeartIt

It’s been a few days since I’ve blogged so apologies for the lack of contact and communication but Dave and I were away for a few days in Spain with some close friends of ours and I decided to take a few days off.

If you read some of my posts last week, you’ll know that for the first time since I started blogging, I’ve been experiencing some writers block, and just doubting my blogging content and writing overall really.

Image: WeHeartIt

Starting a blog was a scary endeavour, mainly because I began sharing my life with the world. So sometimes I wonder whether I’m doing the right thing. The right thing by me, the right thing by you, my readers.

When I’m going through times like this, I always come back to one thing – I love writing. But blogging is so much more than just writing. It’s photo taking, it’s idea making, it’s finding ways to write good, interesting content, it’s trying to find your niche, it’s trying to find a following. And that’s not always easy, it takes time, it takes patience, it takes effort, but most of all, it takes passion.

My little blog has been around for seven months now and sometimes I can’t believe I’ve got this far. I’m averaging about 2,500 views a month with about 1,500 unique visitors so it’s doing pretty well. I’m by no means up there with some of the brilliant bloggers that I love and follow, but I’m pretty proud of what I’ve achieved so far.

I do question myself, I do worry that I’m doing the right thing, I do wonder where it’s going to take me, if anywhere. I hope it takes me somewhere. I suppose the sky is the limit as they say, I just need to believe that it is so that I can reach for it.

But I’ve had a few days off to reflect, to think, to reevaluate, and now it’s time to get back to writing, and sharing my thoughts, loves, likes, interests and adventures with you all.

So on that note, I’d really love for you to comment below or get in touch on my facebook, twitter or instagram and let me know your thoughts on my little blog, what you like reading, what you don’t like reading, and help me steer it back on course so I can keep on growing.

I so appreciate all of you who take the time to stop by and read or like or comment, without you there wouldn’t be a blog. So from me to you… Thank you!
