Daytime Lipstick

I know you all know by now what a lipstick lover I am so there’s no need for me to go over it again… Well maybe there is. Just for a second!

For me, a good lipstick can change your whole makeup look whether it be going from day to night, soft to dramatic, neutral to sultry; there are so many ways a lipstick shade can enhance the look you are trying to achieve. I’ve always been a lipstick fan, and I’m not afraid to play around with colour, as some of my embarrassing teenage photos will attest to! But I’ve got better at using and wearing colour as I’ve gotten older, and now playing around with lipstick shades is one of my favourite things to do.

While perusing some of my favourite magazines and blogs recently, I discovered that the big lipstick trends for this season (AW16) are soft nudes and very deep reds and browns, even black in some cases. Now, while I don’t think I’m adventurous enough to try out black just yet, it occurred to me that I don’t have a good nude shade daytime lipstick. How has this happened?!

Don’t get me wrong, I do own a couple of nude shades, but they are very pale, and ones that really can only be worn with a good lipliner to give a bit of colour and definition. What I’m talking about here though, is a good all-rounder lipstick that I can wear with my soft everyday makeup while on the go.

Obviously I had to rectify this situation immediately, so while in town shopping yesterday, I ventured into Brown Thomas and started my search. I went to my old favourite YSL first, followed by NARS and Tom Ford, eventually finding myself at the Charlotte Tilbury counter. By the end of my search my hand looked like something from a pick’n’mix bag with all the swatches, but all in the name of research I say. You have to be sure on a shade before you buy, that’s my number one tip for buying a good lipstick!

Anyway, the shade I eventually decided on was Very Victoria by Charlotte Tilbury. It is part of their Matte Revolution range and I just love it. It’s light enough that I can wear it wherever, whenever, but strong enough that I don’t need to wear it with a lipliner. I’m super obsessed with Charlotte Tilbury’s rose gold packaging too, as I’ve mentioned many times before.

I wore the lipstick all day yesterday and I’ve got it on me again today which of course is always a good sign. There’s no better feeling than getting a new product you really love, and I really love this. Apart from the colour being perfect for what I wanted, the texture is very creamy even though it is a matte finish, and so far appears to be quite hydrating too.

The smell of it is also to die for, it’s a beautiful rich vanilla scent that seriously, almost makes you want to eat it! So all in all, suffice to say I’m very happy with my choice.

Do you have a favourite everyday lippy shade? If so then comment below and let me know, I always love hearing about lipsticks.

  1. Looks great on you. It’s so annoying we don’t have any shops in my local town that supply high end products. I do get tempted to order online, but without all the swatching you can never tell what shade you’re ordering online! I don’t always wear a lippie during the day. If I’m going out shopping then maybe I will, I just depends what mood I’m in and what I fancy wearing. Sometimes it’ll be a nude, others a berry or a dark red. Can’t wait to start rocking a nice dark wine colour this Autumn!

    1. Aw Hannah that’s a shame, I know what you mean, it’s hard to know what exact colour something is until you see it in real life. I really like this one though! And very excited for berry shades in Autumn too, they are my fav! 🙂
