Today’s lipstick choice for my Simply Lippy challenge is a nod to the matte lipstick looks of the 90’s. I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been noticing a big return of matte wines and browns in recent lipstick releases, and it’s bringing back so many memories of my teenage makeup years.
I remember those days well. Rimmel’s Heather Shimmer was the be-all and end-all of my early 90’s makeup looks; this lippy paired with a strong brown eyeshadow were the perfect pair. Many a teenage event was attended with Heather Shimmer, and it didn’t even matter if you ran out of pocket money because your bestie, or basically any girl you knew, had it too meaning you never went without. Am I just showing my age here or is anyone else with me? Anyone…?!
Anyway, aside from a trip down memory lane, I’m not actually wearing Heather Shimmer today, but rather a fabulous matte brown, Look Who’s Talking (shade 750), from the Rimmel Only 1 Matte collection.
I was sent this by the lovely people over at Rimmel and when I first looked at it, apart from invoking memories of time gone by, I was a bit dubious about revisiting a brown, matte lip. But, in all honesty, after wearing it for the day, I’m now kind of in love with it!
For the purposes of really channeling the 90’s, I paired the lippy with with a soft brown smokey eye, (albeit a lot more subtle that my original 90’s attempts), and I think it works pretty well. It may not be an every day look, but I’ll certainly be wearing it again.
What do you guys think? Would you brave a brown lip?
