Today’s Simply Lippy challenge lipstick is another Rimmel offering, but one I’ve never used before. I was sent this just before Christmas and loved the look of it but didn’t get around to trying it until now.
The Provocalips lip colour looks like a gloss in terms of packaging, but is actually a long lasting, semi-gloss, liquid lipstick that has a two-step application process. It claims to be kiss-proof, food-proof and transfer-proof, with a lasting ability of up to 16 hours. Whoa! With claims like those, I was very excited to put this lipstick to the test and find out whether it really lives up to them.
After wearing if for the day, am I impressed? In a word – yes. And let me explain why…
Firstly, you start by applying the lip colour side of the tube all over the lips and let it dry for a few seconds. Then, to finish off the look, you add a layer of Lock & Shine from the other end which sets the colour and gives it a gloss finish. Initially I thought this was a bit gimmicky, but actually, it gives the lips a lovely soft, glossy look and really holds the colour in place.
The shade, Not Guilty, is a gorgeous berry shade, just the kind of shade that I love, and the pigment is insane. We’re talking about a full coverage, opaque formula that literally does not budge off the lips. I applied it on my lips this morning after breakfast, it’s now evening time and it’s still going strong. I’ve had two cups of tea and lunch since then, and yet it looks pretty much perfect.
I don’t know whether it’s thanks to the Lock & Shine step, or whether the colour formula is just brilliant, but this lipstick definitely lives up to the claims for me. It’s almost a lip stain, but doesn’t have the drying effect that some lip stains have, and for that I am now a convert.
You could potentially also wear this with a matte finish by skipping step two, as, when you first apply it, it does start to dry in a similar way to how liquid matte lipstick would. However, whether or not it would last as long without the Lock & Shine, I don’t know until I give that a try. I do have another of these lip colours so maybe I’ll test it out with that one when I wear it. Either way, I’ll keep you posted.
These lip colours have been on the market for a few years now and are so reasonably priced at just €8.49. Have you tried it, or know anyone who has? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
