Simply Lippy Challenge Day 21 | NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Penny Arcade

Today I hit the three week mark of my Simply Lippy challenge and I can’t believe I’m almost a month into the challenge. Granted, there’s still a long way to go yet, but each month that passes is another month closer to my goal and that makes me very excited.

This week’s lipstick shades were bold and bright, and I really loved playing around with some strong colours. For the coming week however, my shades are going to be a little more tame as I’m going to be starting my new job on Monday and therefore I think I’ll need to reign in the brightness just a little until I get settled in. I do promise to keep the shades relevant to the season we’re in, but they will just be slightly more understated than you’ve seen so far.

Now, on to today’s shade…

I’m feeling a little under the weather today and haven’t been doing a whole lot so I’ve gone with a very soft, natural makeup look with a subtle lip courtesy of NARS. The shade, Penny Arcade, is from the NARS Larger Than Life lip gloss collection and I’ve had it for quite some time. In fact, I forgot I had it until I began gathering all my lippies together a few weeks ago for my challenge.

Lip glosses by their very nature are softer than lipsticks and therefore are a great option if you want a very natural look. While I don’t think they make this particular shade anymore, it was one of my favourites for a long time. It is a gorgeous pink, raspberry shade, and gives a very intense shiny finish to the lips. It also has a thin, short brush-end which makes application very easy and precise.

As you can see from my photos, this shade is not too dramatic but you still get a lovely pop of colour that brightens up the lips and lifts your entire makeup look.

I do tend prefer lipsticks overall, but it’s nice to wear a gloss every once in a while to mix things up a bit. What about you guys? Do you prefer lipstick or lip gloss?

If you’re enjoying my challenge so far, I’d really love for you to please come follow me over on social media too. Simply Lippy Challenge Day 20 | PS… Matte Lipstick Crayon in Vamp

Today’s Simply Lippy choice is another brilliant lip product from Penneys’ PS… collection (Primark for my non-Irish followers), and is one of their matte lipstick crayons. Once again, this is a lip product I hadn’t tried before now, but the lovely ladies from Penneys sent it to me a few weeks ago and I loved the look of it.

The shade, Vamp, is a gorgeous dark purple berry shade, and we all know I love a berry lip. I don’t often use lip crayons but when I do, I generally really like them and this one is no different.

Application is so easy with the creamy formula, and once again the pigment is spot on, probably due to its soft finish which I would describe as a satin matte rather than a more traditional matte. Its lasting power is its only flaw, but that can be forgiven due to its great price point.

It’s not a shade I would wear every day as it’s very dark purple, and ‘vampy’ as the title suggests, but I love it nonetheless! There’s something so sultry about a very dark lip and every once in a while it is a fab shade to wear.

I’m going for a girly night out with my Mum tonight and therefore decided to go for a strong makeup look to match this lip colour. I opted for a grey/purple smokey eye and I think it works well with the berry lip. It’s not a look I would usually chose for daytime, but as it’s Friday I thought, what the hell!

I even bumped into an old friend of mine who complimented it so that’s always lovely to hear. It’s strong and bold, but if you can’t be adventurous on a Friday then why can you be?!

What do you guys think of this shade? I know it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick | New Release Alert!

I don’t often write about new product releases until I’ve actually tried and tested them to see if they are any good, but I received a press release the other day about YSL’s new The Street And I collection for Spring 2017, and one of the products looks so incredible, I just had to share the details with you all.

bd-kiss-blush-duo-stick-n1

The YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick, which is available from this month, has not only one shade, but two, combined into one application stick for use on both the lips and eyes. Now, while there is nothing new about a dual purpose stick product, the fact that this has two shades in one, is what makes me so excited about it.

You can use each shade singly, or you can blur both together and create several different colour looks. Not only that, but the stick comes in six different shades (which is actually twelve if you use separately) and claims to have a smooth, matte finish that glides over lips and cheeks for easy application. EHHH… That is the frickin’ dream right there!

image003

Needless to say, I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these and try it out, and I’m REALLY hoping it’s as good as I want it to be. My only question is, do you think it counts as one lip product or two for my Simply Lippy challenge? I know, I know, it’s probably just the one but God loves a trier as they say!

Of course this product won’t be for everyone, but I’m pretty sure my fellow lipstick lovers will be equally as excited as me. At €33, it’s not cheap, but it is slightly less expensive than other YSL lipsticks which is always a bonus.

What do you guys think? Is this something you would use or do you find it a bit gimmicky? Let me know by commenting below!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 19 | Rimmel Only 1 Matte Lipstick in Shade 120, Call The Shots

Today I had the most incredible day being a tourist in Dublin. If you saw my post yesterday, you’ll know that Dave and I decided to spend a few days seeing all the amazing sights that Dublin has to offer before I start work on Monday.

I’m lucky enough to have travelled to many beautiful cities but never before have I spent a day seeing all the incredible things in my own city. And it was so much fun! I’ve always loved Dublin but this evening, I really feel like I love it a little bit more now.

Anyway, on to my Simply Lippy challenge. For today’s lipstick, I wanted something that would last well throughout the day so I opted for one of the Rimmel Only 1 Matte lipsticks in a gorgeous bright coral / raspberry shade called, Call The Shots.

Some of you may already know that I’ve been a big fan of this new range from Rimmel since I was kindly sent them last October, and have already worn two shades from the collection on Day 10 and Day 3 of my challenge.

This lipstick has a matte finish, great pigment and is creamy on application, but most importantly for today, it is long lasting. Plus I’m a sucker for a coral lip and this one is just gorgeous. In fact, it’s my favourite shade of the entire collection but sadly, as you can see from the photo, it was broken when I went to use it for the first time. Not one to let a small problem get in the way when it comes to lipstick however, I just applied with my finger and went on my way.

Its staying power is just so good – I applied it after breakfast this morning and barely had to reapply all day. So, if you’re looking for a long lasting, inexpensive lipstick then this is definitely a great option.

Have you tried any of these lipsticks? If so I’d love to hear your thoughts so comment below and let me know!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 18 | YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Matts in Shade 205, Prune Virgin

It’s Wednesday, it’s hump day, but most importantly, it’s day 18 of my Simply Lippy challenge. Today has been a super fun day but before I go into all that, yesterday I completely forgot to tell you all about the lovely article that Irish online magazine Shemazing.ie wrote on Monday about my Simply Lippy challenge.

If you follow my social media pages you’ll have seen me talking about this already, but I was so excited when I found out about the post on Monday evening. I had no idea it was being written and, it gave me such a boost about the challenge (and the 347 days still left to go!). Obviously, a 365 day challenge is a big task to undertake, and I still have no idea if I’ll be able to pull it off, but knowing that people are enjoying it as much as I am makes me so happy.

I think this challenge means so much to me because makeup, and lipstick in particular, has always been a way for me to boost my confidence and make myself feel better when having a crappy day. For example, I’ve struggled with my weight for basically forever, and experimenting with lipsticks and makeup looks when my clothes didn’t fit, helped me feel better about myself. It may sound silly, but it’s also how my shoe obsession began too. Clothes may not always fit, but shoes always do!

Anyway, I’m rambling now, but really I just want to say thank you for all of the lovely words of encouragement I’ve gotten from so many of you so far. I really am so grateful and I hope you all continue to stick with me throughout the challenge.

If you missed the article you can catch up here, but for now, let me get back to today…

Today, Dave and I decided to do something special before my new job starts next week, and so, moved into a hotel in town for a two day staycation. While we were away we kept saying how great it would be to be tourists in our own city so that’s exactly what we’ve done today.

We spent the day wandering around, relaxing in our hotel, having afternoon tea, drinking bubbles, and shortly, we’re off for a delicious dinner. Of course all of this wouldn’t be complete without a very special lipstick, which leads me on to today’s choice, YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats in shade 205, Prune Virgin.

Most of you will know how obsessed I am with YSL lipsticks, they are just so creamy and hydrating, and the pigment is always perfect so as we were coming on our little trip today, I decided to buy this especially for the day that was in it.

Now, as you can tell from the title, this lipstick is meant to be matte, but I think you’ll agree it doesn’t really have a matte finish. So it does loses points for that and if you’re specifically looking for a matte finish, it’s not going to be your best option.

However for me, I just absolutely love this shade so while my darling YSL has let me down just a little bit with the finish, I still love this lippy and will happily wear it for ever more!

Catch you all tomorrow for day 19 where we’ll be spending the day as tourists by doing the city bus tour and visiting some of Dublin’s best sights. Make sure you stop by and have a read of what shade will be coming along with me!

Don’t forget to come follow my journey over on my social media pages too, or you can just search for the #simplylippy and #365days365shades hashtags on InstagramTwitter and Facebook either.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 17 | PS… Liquid Lipstick in Hot Pink

Today’s lipstick choice for my Simply Lippy challenge is a bit of an ‘out there’ one for me. I’m not really a pink kind of girl, I never have been, but when Penney’s sent me one of their PS… liquid lipsticks in a super bright pink shade, I was a little intrigued to see how it would look.

As you’ll know if you’ve been following my challenge so far, I’ve been trying to keep my lipstick choices seasonal, in other words, so far wearing shades that are perfect for the Winter months. But, as January is almost coming to an end and we’ll be officially entering Spring soon, I couldn’t resist playing around with this shade today.

The shade, Hot Pink, is a vibrant neon fuchsia with a gloss finish. As with the Penney’s matte lipstick I tried last week, I’m so impressed by the PS… lipstick range mainly because the colour pay off is really brilliant which to me, is so important in a lipstick.

Now, there is one thing with this. And here’s that thing…  Because it has a gloss finish, it doesn’t have the same staying power that a matte liquid lipstick does, and, because it’s liquid, it doesn’t have the same staying power as a regular gloss lipstick. Therefore, I did have to reapply this several times throughout the day.

In saying that however, the lack of staying power doesn’t bother me too much because most gloss lipsticks have to be reapplied during the day. As well as that, the pigment is so good, it’s super affordable at only €2.50, and, because it’s a gloss finish it’s very buildable meaning you can wear it as pale or as dark as you’d like.

So what’s the verdict? Well, if this was a more expensive lipstick I’d be a bit dubious about purchasing, but because it’s just so affordable, I’m pretty sure I’ll be buying some more shades.

It was a misty, dull day in Dublin today and I did feel like this was maybe a little too bright for the time of year and trust me, I’m not one to shy away from a bright lippy shade! If you’re adventurous and a fan of bright lippies however, then this is definitely a fun option. It’s not for the faint hearted, but paired with a pretty dress and a simple lick of eyeliner in the Summer, I think it would look gorgeous on a sunny day.

What do you think of this shade, would you brave it?

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 16 | theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long Lasting Lipstick in Charming

Happy ‘Blue Monday’ everyone! Apparently today is officially the most depressing Monday of the year, but thankfully my day hasn’t been too bad. Although, it is my last official Monday off before starting my new job next week so that is making me very nervous! On the positive side however, today I got to try out a new lipstick for my Simply Lippy challenge, and not only was it a new shade for me, but also a completely new brand.

theBalm, is a makeup brand I’ve followed with interest for a while now, and their liquid lipsticks have been on my wish-list for ages, so when I saw them on sale after Christmas, I of course had to buy them and try them out.

I bought a set of six mini lipsticks from their Meet Matt(e) Hughes collection and the lippy I chose for today is a gorgeous red-berry shade called Charming. As the title suggests, this lipstick has a lovely matte finish and is very easy to apply and blend on the lips. At first, the formula is quite wet, but liquid lipsticks tend to be like that, and it dried very quickly so no problems there.

The only downside to this formula is that there really isn’t any hydration in it, and my lips did start to become a bit dry throughout the day. However, my lips are particularly dry at the moment so I’m not going to make any decisions on how I feel about it just yet. Plus, the pigment is fab and the lasting power is insanely good too, so overall I think it’s a thumbs up from me.

I also love that this lipstick came in a mini size; sometimes it’s hard to know if a shade will suit you, or whether you’ll like the formula or not, so this is a great way to try out a new product without it costing too much.

I know a lot of beauty lovers are big fans of theBalm, and their Mary Lou Manizer highlighter is a new obsession of mine (and most other bloggers I know!). Have you tried any of their lip products? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 15 | MAC Satin Lipstick in Rebel

MAC Rebel, the first dark lipstick shade I ever bought that wasn’t red, and one of my all-time favourite lipsticks, is today’s Simply Lippy challenge choice. I was hoping not to use this shade so early in the challenge as I wear it all the time, no matter the month or season, but, it’s a dull, gloomy day in Dublin and it just felt like the right choice for today.

Rebel is one of MAC’s most popular shades and has become a cult favourite over the years. It is a bright purple/plum colour, but its almost pink undertone is what makes this shade stand out against others I’ve tried. It is also the reason why I’ve been totally obsessed with it since I first tried it about six years ago! It has a satin finish, and like all MAC lipsticks, the colour pay off is amazing.

I don’t know what it is about this lippy, but it always makes me feel great. My face looks dull – it brightens it up, my mood is low – it brightens it up, the weather is gloomy – it brightens it up! In a nutshell, it brightens everything up and above all, it makes me happy.

I was out meeting an old friend for brunch earlier today and it somehow also felt appropriate to be wearing an old favourite, as I sat chatting to an old favourite!

Of course this shade won’t be for everyone, but if you love plum shades and you haven’t tried it, then I definitely recommend putting it on your lippy wish list!

I hope you all have a lovely Sunday. We’re off out for dinner tonight so I plan on having a nice glass of red to go with my Rebel lip!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 14 | Rimmel Kate Moss Rouge À Lèvres Lipstick in Shade 01

Yay! Today, I hit the two week mark of my Simply Lippy challenge. It was another super fun week trying out lipsticks old and new, and discovering some gorgeous new winter shades.

As it’s Saturday I decided to go for a light orange / brown smokey eye look and because of that, had to choose a lipstick shade that would match my eyes.

Today’s choice is a Rimmel lippy from the Rouge à Lèvres range, and it’s a deep cherry shade, perfect for a cold winter’s day.

If you’ve read any of my previous Kate Moss Rimmel reviews, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of this range. I love the creamy formula as well as the soft, glossy finish.

I know a lot of you lovely readers are big fans of the Kate Moss lippies – what do you think of this shade? Have you tried it?

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 13 | PS… Matte Long Last Lipstick in Bronco

Happy Friday everyone! Although, it is Friday 13th and me being a superstitious kind of person, I’m never really that fond of Friday the 13th. Ridiculous, I know! It might explain why I’ve been feeling a bit lethargic today though, I feel like I never really woke up this morning. Does anyone else get days like that?!

Anyway, if you follow me on snapchat, yesterday you will have seen me talk about the amazing box of lippy goodies that the lovely ladies in Penneys sent me, to help me along on my Simpy Lippy challenge (Primark for my non-Irish followers). I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of lipsticks I got, and I’m so excited to get using and showing them all to you.

You may have heard me talk about some of the PS Pro beauty products before – for me, last year Penneys completely brought their A-Game when it came to some of their beauty releases. Their powder contour palette is brilliant, their highlighting pens are to die for, and their lipsticks really stand up against some of the best in the business. Us Irish girls love a bit of Penneys, and when it comes to beauty, it’s no different.

The only lip product I have tried up to now was one of their lip crayons, so for today’s challenge I’m testing out one of their long lasting matte lipsticks in a caramel brown shade called, Bronco. When I first opened this lipstick I loved the warm-toned look of it, and was very pleasantly surprised to find that the colour pigment is equally as good when applied. It gives your lips the most gorgeous, rich caramel tone and smells deliciously of caramel too!

I’ve become a massive fan of matte finishes over the past few years and this lippy is a great option. It is a very creamy matte, isn’t drying on the lips, and, the lasting power is pretty good too.

But the biggest plus about this lipstick? It costs €2. Yep. No, seriously yep, only €2. I mean lads, where would you be going? A budget beauty bargain at its finest!

If you’re enjoying my challenge so far, I’d really love for you to please come follow me over on social media too. Tomorrow I’ll be reaching the two week mark so make sure you watch out for my weekly round up video on Facebook which will be uploaded in the morning.
