Simply Lippy Challenge Day 87 | Wet n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stain in Shade E1591, Coral of the Story

If you’ve been following my Simply Lippy challenge for a while now, you may have noticed that my posts recently have been a little shorter than normal.

I had to take some time out over the past few weeks but I’ll be back to proper blog posts from now on!

Today’s lipstick choice was another of the Megaslick Balm Stain’s from Wet n Wild in a colour that I absolutely love, Coral of the Story.

I wore one of these lip crayons on Day 52 of my challenge in a lovely berry shade, and was pleasantly surprised by how nice both the formula and pigment was. And while I’m liking it again today, there were a few slight disappointments.

This shade is just gorgeous and my favourite kind of shade to wear, and the application is super easy with the creamy formula.

However, I did notice that the stain was a bit patchy as I went through the day today, and didn’t soak in to my lips quite as well as the previous shade I wore which was a little annoying. But because I liked the colour so much, I just kept reapplying to keep it even and smooth.

If it was a more expensive lipstick I most likely would have been put off, but as these are so inexpensive and budget friendly, I didn’t mind so much as I usually would.

I find balms like this so handy to have in your bag when on the go, it’s just a shame it didn’t have a better lasting effect.

Have you tried these Megaslicks lip crayons? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 86| Maybelline Colour Sensational Nudes Lipstick in Shade 207, Pink Fling

Until Day 86, I had never tried any lipsticks from Maybelline. I don’t know how really, but for some reason, it’s never on my radar when it comes to lippy.

I spotted this lipstick a few weeks back when doing my grocery shopping and decided to buy it and add it to my list for Simply Lippy.

After wearing it for a day, I’m sorry to say, I’m not really a big fan. It’s very hard to judge something after one day so I say that very reluctantly, but it just didn’t do very much for me.

I found the lipstick kind of sat on top of my lips and wasn’t particularly creamy or hydrating. The colour itself was nice, but it didn’t last long after eating breakfast or having a cuppa, so I did have to reapply it several times.

I don’t think I’d be rushing to try this range again because it was a little disappointing, but good to try nonetheless, and I did like the nude pink shade.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 85 | Rimmel Only 1 Matte Lipstick in Shade 800, Run The Show

Although Rimmel’s Only 1 Matte range firmly became a new favourite of mine at the end of last year, this shade was one that I really didn’t think was going to be down my street.

While I love experimenting with shades and textures, purple was just a step too far, or so I thought until Day 85 of my lipstick challenge…

Feeling a little adventurous, I decided to give it a go and I absolutely love it! Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not adventurous enough to wear it into the office for work, or anything, but on a lazy day off, this was so much fun to wear.

I opted to pair it with very soft, barely there makeup and I think it makes the lip colour pop all the more.

I’ve spoken about my love for the formula many times before, the staying power is brilliant and the pigments are gorgeous. Plus I find them so nice and soft to wear.

If you’ve missed my previous posts on the Only 1 Matte collection, you can read full details here, here, here, and here! That’s how much I love these lippies…

Very kindly this range was sent to me by Rimmel to try out last Autumn, so had this shade not been sent to me, I doubt I would have ever tried it. But, after wearing trying it out, I’m so glad I did.

Sure what’s the point in makeup if you can’t have a little fun with it every once in a while?!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 84 | MAC Amplified Lipstick in Shade, Vegas Volt

It’s been lovely and sunny in Dublin over the past few days so for Day 84, I decided to wear one of my favourite Summery lipstick shades from MAC, Vegas Volt.

To me, Vegas Volt is orange coral at its absolute finest, and one of my go-to shades when the sun is shining.

It is part of MAC’s iconic amplified range (as many of my favourite lipsticks are), and is super creamy with a full coverage finish. The gorgeous pigment makes it the perfect Spring/Summer shade and one that I’ll just never get tired of.

It wears very well during the day, and while it’s not the longest lasting lipstick of my MAC collection, it’s still totally fab and a must-have for me at this time of year!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 83 | Catrice Ombré Two Tone Lipstick in Shade 030, Grapedation Nude

If you’ve been following my challenge, or even my blog, for a while now, you will know that I love Catrice products. I only discovered this brand last year, but since then have been a firm convert to their mascaras, powders and of course, lipsticks.

One of the big makeup trends for Spring / Summer 2017 is ombré lips which I’m just obsessed with, and many of the biggest beauty brands have released dual lippies including YSL, Benefit and Catrice, so obviously I’ve been very excited to try some out.

I finally got the chance to do just that on Day 83, when I picked up a few of the Catrice ombré two-tone lipsticks, and it came as no surprise to me that I was instantly hooked.

This shade, Grapedation Nude, is a combination of a rich berry and soft peach-nude. At first, I was dubious about how it would look, but it really works and you can easily distinguish between both shades on application.

Obviously as you can see from the photos, it needs to be blended after you first apply, but just a quick pucker of the lips and voila, lovely ombré lips.

Now, the only thing I would say is that the shape of this makes it a little awkward to turn around and apply on the bottom lips, it’s no big deal at all, but something worth mentioning if you’re thinking of purchasing.

Having said that, this lipstick hasn’t let me down at all and I really love it. The formula is creamy and hydrating, and the pigment is just gorgeous.

Another great product overall from Catrice!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 82 | NYX Butter Gloss in Shade 08, Apple Strudle

As many of you may know, NYX is a brand that I really like. I’m always so impressed by their products, and their vinyl liquid eyeliner is one of my holy grail products.

I’ve always loved their lipsticks, but until today, had never tried their Butter Gloss, but as always, was excited to try it out.

The first thing that drew me to this lipstick when I bought it was the shade,a gorgeous peach shade called, Apple Strudle. I mean just look how pretty it is! Exactly the kind of shade that I love wearing, especially at this time of year.

The tone is perfect for a Spring day, and the finish is a very creamy gloss which makes the colour buildable even though it is slightly sheer. There is enough pigment to give a tint of colour, and is the perfect shade for everyday wear, especially for a more neutral makeup look.

Once again I’m super impressed by NYX and I really like this. I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite in terms of formula because it does have a slight stickiness, but I really like the shade and would definitely wear it again.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 80 | L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Shade 302, Bois De Rose

My lipstick choice for Day 80 of my Simply Lippy challenge was a gorgeous creamy lipstick from L’Oreal’s Colour Riche range.

I had never tried this lipstick before and have to say, I’ve become a big fan. I don’t know why, but I never usually think of L’Oreal when it comes to lipstick, but this one really reminds me of Make Up For Ever’s Artist Rouge lippy which I wore on Day 57, and absolutely loved, and I’m loving this one almost as much as that.

It is super creamy and contains Vitamin E to keep your lips soft and hydrated while you wear. The pigment is rich and bold, and leaves a gorgeous, smooth colour after just one application which really makes me want to wear it again.

And, it also has that lipstick smell. You know the one I mean? The one that reminds you of playing with your Mum’s good lipstick as a child? That! Or was that just me…?!

Anyway, I just love that lipstick smell, it smells of beauty stories in times gone by or something; a luxurious smell, that for me, makes this lipstick a complete winner in my book. I know it sounds silly, but it is getting top marks for the nostalgia it creates alone, never mind the fact that it is just a lovely lippy!

I’ll definitely be trying out more shades from the range, but for now, I really love this berry rose shade and would happily wear it over and over again.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 81 | Essence Shine, Shine, Shine Lip Gloss in Shade 08, Indie Romance

My lippy choice for Day 81 was a nod to my lip gloss days of old, courtesy of a very pink gloss from Essence.

Essence isn’t a brand I would normally use, there are other budget brands that I really love such as Catrice and NYX, so it’s never really crossed my mind to try anything from them, until I saw these new high shine lip glosses when I was in the chemist the other day.

When I spotted this, the first thing I noticed was the ‘I’m New’ sticker which instantly drew me in so thought to myself, what better time to give one a try.

I have to say, I was pretty impressed. It is high shine so therefore the pigment is sheer as you would expect, and it does have that sticky thing which is slightly irritating. But, it felt nice on the lips and the lasting power wasn’t all that bad for a budget buy and I also really like the curved brush head which made application very easy.

It didn’t have particularly long lasting power, but I wouldn’t expect a high gloss shine to last too long so all-in-all, it was better than I had expected.

I don’t really wear pink glosses, or at least I haven’t since my school days, so it was fun to try something like this out as a nod to times gone by.

However, I think maybe my pink gloss days are behind me for now, so I’m not sure this is really for me.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 79 | Rimmel Provocalips Lip Colour in Shade 110, Dare To Pink

For today’s Simply Lippy lipstick, I chose a soft salmon pink shade from Rimmel’s Provocalips lip duo range.

When I first tried these lip duo’s I was a big fan of the colour and pigment, but did find that the long lasting formula left my lips slightly dry after wearing them.

Up to now, I’ve only tried the darker shades in the range which I like, but today’s shade is much paler as you can see from the photos. As I’m sure you can also see, I’m a bit run down and my lips are particularly dry and sore at the moment which doesn’t lend itself well to this kind of formula.

A word of advice! Don’t wear these if you have sore or chapped lips because once the lipstick dries in, it doesn’t budge, and on dry lips will crack and stick to dry areas rather than blend.

It’s a shame that my lips were so dry today because I did like the shade.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 78 | PS… Matte Long Last Lipstick in Shade Bad Blood

For the past few days I’ve been wearing some very muted tones when it came to my lipstick so for Day 78’s lippy, I decided to go bold again with this deep cool toned red shade from Penneys’ PS… range.

The shade, is a lovely red with a blue undertone and although I don’t usually opt for cool reds, this one has a lovely rich finish which I really like.

If you’ve read my other posts on the PS… matte formula, you’ll already know how much I like it so I won’t delve into that too much.

But at only €2.50, you really cannot go wrong with this matte lip. It is such a good budget buy and one that has quickly become a new favourite.
