Simply Lippy Challenge Day 120 | Max Factor Lip Finity Lip Colour in Shade 125, So Glamorous

If you caught my earlier post for yesterday’s lip challenge choice, you will know that yesterday, I spent the day and night celebrating one of my gorgeous friends’ hen party.

Of course, me being me, throughout the day   I somehow got talking about makeup and lipstick, and ended up discovering my lipstick soul sister!

A fabulous friend of the bride, Blanch, who I hadn’t seen for years, was wearing a gorgeous raspberry red matte lipstick and I was admiring it all day. It looked incredible on her, paired with a very simple lick of eyeliner for a beautiful statement makeup look.

When Blanch and I finally got talking, we quickly realised our mutual obsession of all things lipstick and she told me that her lippy was one of the Max Factor lip finity matte lip colours. And what’s more, she had two in her bag (my kind of gal), so gave me one to take home and try!

Of course, I was so excited, so this my lovely Blanch, is for you…

I knew I’d love the shade because it looked so fab when I saw it on Blanch yesterday. It’s a little cooler toned than I would usually wear, but has a lovely raspberry undertone which I just love.

It’s similar to the Rimmel Provocalips lip colours in that it comes with a gloss to apply over it, but I didn’t have the gloss part, nor did I need it really.

The formula is a liquid so when you apply it at first, it does take a few minutes to dry in. Now, I think if you were applying the gloss part over it, it would probably feel a bit softer, but because I didn’t, I definitely noticed some stickiness as it dried and couldn’t blend my lips together without it dragging the formula.

Once dry, the finish is super matte, and the lasting power is unreal! I mean, this lippy will just not budge off your lips no matter what you eat or drink – a major plus if you’re busy running around, or out for a night, and don’t want to worry about having to reapply.

Overall, I really love the lipstick colour, but my lips do look a little cracked now that we’re coming to the end of today. In fairness though, that’s probably more because I have dry lips in general.

It’s not creamy or hydrating, and does have a dry feel to it as you wear it, but if it’s lasting power you’re after and you don’t mind about consistency, it could be a good option. I’ve been wearing it for about eight hours now and it still looks almost as good as it did when I first applied it.

I think with this, it will come down to your personal preference really. I tend to prefer creamier finishes, but did really like the longevity I got with this.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 119 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Lady Danger

Hey everyone! Sorry for the late post on yesterday’s lipstick challenge, but I didn’t have any time to post as I was out for the day and night, celebrating one of my oldest, loviest friends’ hen party.

Because it was such a special day, I really wanted to wear something particularly gorgeous and special to me, and therefore there really only was one option: Lady Danger.

Many of you will know already that orange reds are my absolutely favourite of all the lipstick shades, and the creme de la creme of orange reds for me, is Lady Danger.

It is the perfect vibrant shade of red for those who prefer warm tones, and has MAC’s original matte finish which is super creamy and long lasting.

This has been a favourite lipstick of mine for so many years, more than I can remember, and is closely tied with YSL Rouge Pur Couture Le Orange as my all time favourite ever.

I got so many comments on this lippy shade yesterday, as I always do when I wear this, simply because of what a gorgeous shade it is and how it barely budged off my lips all day long.

If ever you were going to invest in a red lipstick and want an orange undertone, then this ladies, is the one buy!

Review: Urban Decay Afterglow 8 Hour Powder Blush in Score

For some reason even though I love Urban Decay as a brand, up until a few weeks ago I had never tried any of their blushers. And I really don’t know why.

A month or so ago when doing some beauty shopping, I wanted a new blush shade and decided to go look at the Urban Decay options as I’ve always heard great things about them. After looking through a few shades, I eventually settled on this one called Score, and it is just divine.

This is a powder blush, and the first thing I noticed was how finely milled the powder is. It is just so light, and a little goes a very long way because the pigment is so on point.

Of course, me being me, I opted for a coral shade which has a very slight shimmery glow to the finish as the name Afterglow suggests, and the light, creamy texture makes application just so frickin’ easy!

Sometimes with heavier blushes the powder can pull or drag your base foundation underneath, but that doesn’t happen at all with this blusher. It glides on so easily to the face, leaving a gorgeous soft glow to your cheekbones that stays put pretty damn well throughout the day.

One thing I’m really liking about it is the fact that because the powder is so fine, it makes this a really buildable formula so you can go very soft and light for daytime, or you can layer it giving a bolder cheek definition for night time. So it’s a win-win all round.

Blush on left cheek, no blush on right cheek

It’s no secret that I love Urban Decay as I mentioned above, but I’m pretty sure this blush has just become a new favourite.
Before blush on right cheek
After blush on right cheek

Now the one thing I will say is, it’s very similar to Benefit’s Coralista which some of you may remember, I reviewed last year (if you missed it you can catch it here).

Coralista is one of my all time favourite blush shades and one I’ve been wearing for years, but I think it may just have met its match with this.

While Coralista is a peachy-coral shade, Score is more of a pink-coral giving it a richer pigment and dare I say it – might make me love it just a little bit more than Coralista. Plus at €28, it’s cheaper than Coralista too.

I know, shock, horror! That is a big statement for me to make because nothing could touch Coralista for me for so many years, it’s just so perfect. But, there’s a new coral in town folks, and I’m loving it!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 118 | Clarins Lip Perfector in Shade 14, Juicy Mandarin

It’s Friday everyone; can I get a whoop, whoop?! I’m always happy when Friday arrives, but I’m particularly happy today because it’s a bank holiday weekend.

For my lippy choice today, I decided to try out a gorgeous new limited edition lip perfector shade from Clarins which I was very kindly sent last week to try out and have to say, am a little bit raging I haven’t discovered these before now.

Clarins has always been a reliable, good quality brand, but lately they are just on fire with their product releases. From their gorge packaging, to some very clever products; they are very much a favourite brand of mine.

Apparently these lip perfectors have been around for a while (who knew?!), but I was completely unaware of them until Clarins released two new limited edition shades for  Summer.

The shade I’m wearing today is a lovely sheer mandarin orange, which pretty much tastes like mandarin too, and had a gorgeous soft gloss finish with zero stickiness.

In a similar way to their lip oils, this lippy manages to give a high shine gloss while still feeling creamy, and the pigment is pretty good too. Plus, the soft sponge application tip makes this so easy to apply.

I’m so impressed with the formula and it was so nice to wear today. I don’t think this is my favourite shade that I’ve worn; it’s maybe just a bit too orange for me, and it’s not a particularly long lasting lip gloss. But, as far as texture, finish and consistency go, I’m sold!

This particular shade is limited edition so I’m not sure how long it will be around for but, Clarins do have regular collection shades in this if you’re thinking of trying it!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 117 | Wet n Wild Matte Lipstick in Shade E904B, Rose-Wood

If you caught my Day 68 or Day 94 Simply Lippy posts, you will already know that I’ve become a fan of Wet n Wild matte lipsticks.

In those two posts I wore two gorgeous shades, Purty Persimmon and Coral-ine, which I was sent by the lovely people in Wet n Wild to try out. In a nutshell, I really loved both lipsticks, so much so, I went out and bought a few more to add to my challenge list.

Today’s shade Rose-Wood, is a gorgeous deep rose shade with a very slight pink undertone and I absolutely love it. The pigment is as good as some of the more expensive lipsticks I’ve tried, and I really love the matte formula too.

The formula is very matte so might be a bit drying for some, but I haven’t had any issues with dryness or flakeyness which you do sometimes get with mattes.

It isn’t hydrating, but the formula is creamy enough to allow for a nice even application, and the staying power is really great. I honestly have become such a big fan of these and am so happy I’ve discovered them. I mean, for €2.50, you really can’t go wrong lads can you?!

Have any of you tried these yet? If so please let me know because I’m really dying to hear your thoughts!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 116 | Rimmel Oh My Gloss Lipgloss in Shade 500, Ooh La La

I have tried many Rimmel lipsticks over the years, but for some reason, hadn’t tried their Oh My Gloss lipgloss until today.

I spotted this when I was out doing some shopping last week and loved the look of the deep red shade, so of course, decided to buy it and try it out for my challenge.

The base of this gloss is Argan Oil which is in incredibly moisturising and so good for the skin, so naturally I expected the formula to reflect that. And let me tell you, it really did.

Usually I wouldn’t describe glosses as particularly moisturising but this was, and what’s more, it kept my lips feeling soft and smooth all day which I was really pleasantly surprised by.

Of course being a gloss, I did have to reapply it more than once throughout the day, but not as often as I thought I would so that was a major plus for me. Plus, there was none of the dreaded stickiness that you sometimes get with lip gloss. Hooray!

The pigment is fairly good for a sheer gloss finish, although I was expecting it to be a warm red as it looked to have a slight orange undertone in the tube. However, when I applied it, it actually had more of a pink than orange undertone which isn’t usually the tone of red that I’m drawn to.

Overall, I really enjoyed wearing this today and am really impressed by both the formula and texture. It is super smooth, very easy to wear, and the shade is lovely too.

Another good lippy from Rimmel!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 115 | Clinique Chubby Stick in Shade 13, Mighty Mimosa

Some of you may remember my last post on one of Clinique’s Chubby sticks in shade Strawberry from Day 55, where I told you all about my love for Chubby Sticks and how they have been a favourite lip product of mine for many years now.

In that post I was trying out one of their limited edition Crayola inspired Chubbies, but today, I’m trying out one of the original shades that I haven’t tried before.

Today’s shade, Mighty Mimosa, was a gift from my gorgeous sister-in-law, and is a lovely soft pink shade with a very slight peach tint to it, and I just love it.

For those of you who don’t know, Chubby Sticks are essentially a lip balm in crayon format, with a very creamy and moisturising formula that make your lips so soft and smooth.

When it comes to balms and lipsticks in general really, hydration is a big thing for me because I suffer with dry lips, and the hydration you get with these Chubbies is just amazing.

The finish is what I would describe as a soft sheer, and has a lovely subtle pigment that gives just enough colour to make the lips pop. Because of that, they are a perfect every day lippy, especially if you want to keep your lip colour soft and subtle.

If you’ve been following my challenge up to now, you’ll know that I very rarely say that you should go out and buy something, mainly because everyone’s tastes are different, and we all want different things from a lipstick.

However, if you’re in the market for something new and you like a creamy balm, then I really would recommend trying out one of these!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 114 | Clarins Lip Comfort Oil in Shade 4, Candy

The Lip Comfort Oils from Clarins need absolutely no introduction in my opinion, and they are some of my favourite lip products that I’ve ever tried.

I discovered these lip oils for the first time last year when I picked up shade Raspberry on an airport trip, which I also wore on Day 12 of my challenge.

I was so impressed by both the formula and finish of the oil that I couldn’t wait to try out more shades in the range, so you can imagine my excitement when last week, Clarins announced a collection of new shades for Summer 2017.

I wore shade Red Berry on Day 62, and today, I tried out my third shade from the collection, one of the new shades, in a lovely pink colour called Candy.

The lovely people over at Clarins sent this to me to try out and I honestly can’t tell you how excited I was. I was so grateful to be sent it, but I can tell you one thing, I’ll definitely be purchasing some more shades myself because I really think they are worth the investment.

Although oil based, these lippies aren’t greasy and leave the most gorgeous glossy finish to your lips, without being sticky at all.

This soft pink shade gives a very slight tint, just enough to colour the lips, and the formula is just so soft and luxurious to wear. The consistency is thick meaning a little goes a long way, and the large brush head makes even the application process flawless too.

Once again, I have nothing but good things to say about these lip oils – the formula, consistency and finish are all so lovely. Plus they have really good staying power too without drying out the lips.

I love how soft they make my lips feel when I wear them and I will most definitely be wearing these for many years to come.

They are the perfect handbag accessory for a day when you want a natural hint of a tint, with a glossy high shine look.

Clarins – it’s love!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 113 | Benefit They’re Real Double The Lip Lipstick in Shade Flame Game

You all know by now how much I love lipstick; wearing it, trying out different shades and textures, discovering new favourites, and I always get a little excited about trying something new to the market.

But it’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about a new lipstick release, and this disappointed.

Today for the first time, I tried out the new They’re Real lipstick and lip liner duo lipsticks from Benefit and all I really have to say is that, it was a big disappointment.

Duo lipsticks are big at the moment, and I’m a huge fan of Catrice’s Ombré range, but given that Benefit are usually so good at what they do, I had very high hopes for this.

I chose the shade Flame Game as my first shade to try: it has a deep red liner and a vibrant orange lipstick, or so I thought. You’d be forgiven for thinking as such anyway because the shades look so fab on the stick.

Sadly however, the lip liner was almost non existent when I applied it on my lips – I thought there would be an obvious difference between the red and orange, but there was nothing. And, the orange is not the vibrant pop I was hoping either. It’s a nice enough shade but to be honest, it just seemed a little dull compared to what I was expecting.

As you can see from my pictures above, there really is no distinction between the two colours. The first one is the lipstick first applied, and the second photo, is the lipstick blended… Spot the difference?! You can’t really, can you?

It’s been a long time since I have been so deeply underwhelmed by something and to be honest, I just feel so sad! I had read lots of great reviews about these lipsticks, and although I did like the texture, the pigment didn’t last particularly long on my lips.

I suppose if I just bought an orange lipstick I wouldn’t feel so disappointed, but this definitely did not give a liner / lipstick duo look.

I’m hoping that the other shades in the range will be a little better than this, I bought a set of four minis which is really handy, so I have some more to try. But, if I hadn’t bought the set, I really don’t think I’d be rushing to try these again.

What a major let down!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 112 | Catrice Lip Cushion in Shade 010, Rather Be At Coachella

If you’ve been following my lipstick challenge up to now, I’m sure it won’t come as any surprise that for Saturday’s lipstick choice, I tried out my third shade from the Catrice lip cushion range.

I tried these a few months back for the first time, both on Day 56 and Day 88 of my challenge, and while I loved the first shade Coraline’s Crush, I was a bit disappointed by the second one, Better Make A Mauve.

Thankfully, I’m happy to say that I really like today’s shade, Rather Be At Coachella, which is not dissimilar to Coraline’s Crush in that it has a peachy tone and is a light coral.

The pigment isn’t quite as strong as Coraline’s Crush but is definitely better than Better Make A Mauve (which I found to be very sheer and gloss like), and it also has a nice creamy texture to it.

It is glossy but not too sticky; my hair did catch in it once or twice but only very slightly, and the thick consistency allows it to stay in place well for a sheer, gloss finish.

I really like this soft shade: I don’t know that I love it as much as Coraline’s Crush, but I do like it, and definitely plan on wearing it again in the future.
