Simply Lippy Challenge Day 201 | Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Shade, Tilt

Tilt; oh my god, where have you been all my life?!

On Friday I headed off to Madrid early in the morning for a weekend away and had a gorgeous red floral dress that I wanted to wear that day. Because of that, I knew I needed the perfect coral / red lip to accompany it and so, in the airport decided to treat myself to my day 201 lip there and then.

I love Urban Decay lipsticks, and I particularly love their comfort matte finishes, so the moment I saw this I knew I would love it and it had to be mine. And I wasn’t wrong!

This lippy is just divine in every sense of the word. It is creamy, highly pigmented, incredibly blendable and has the most gorgeous soft matte finish.

The colour pay off, as you’d expect from Urban Decay, is brilliant and the staying power is pretty damn good too.

As I’m sure you’ve gathered by now, there is nothing I don’t like about it other than the fact that I’ve only discovered it now!

Many of you will know that I very rarely say you should go out and purchase anything; lipsticks are a very personal choice. But, if you are looking for a bright Summer lip and love coral, then this one is definitely worth checking out.

It really is the perfect summer lippy and one that I’m pretty sure I’ll be wearing for many years to come.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 200 | Topshop Matte Lip Bullet in Shade Wink

At this stage in my challenge, I’m running out of brands to try, I really have covered so many over the past six months but want to try cover even more for the next six months.

So when I was in Topshop picking up some holiday bits last week, I decided to buy one of the lipsticks from their beauty range and opted for one of the matte lip bullet crayons in a nude pink shade.

Now, I don’t know about you, but when I see matte, I expect a matte finish but for some reason, this has a shimmer to the finish even though it says matte. While it’s not glossy or creamy, I don’t know that you can really call it matte so from the offset that kind of threw me with it.

The formula itself, I didn’t mind. It blends well and the pigment is fairly good for a light nude shade. I liked the slight coral element to the colour, and the shimmer did bring another dimension to it even though I wasn’t expecting in it.

The lasting power is fine, not amazing but not awful, and the formula didn’t dry out my lips which is always good. I also liked how easy it was to apply and the colour pay off which was very true to how the colour looks in the packaging.

Overall, I’m not sure I would rush to try this out again, but I have heard their lipsticks are lovely so I might have to give them a go and see if they impress me any more than this.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 199 | Bourjois Colour Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick in Shade 01, Red Sunrise

I first tried out these Colour Boost lip crayons from Bourjois a few weeks ago in a bright pink shade, Fuchsia Libreand really liked it. In fact, I liked it so much that in true ‘me’ style, I went out and bought a few more shades!

Bourjois is a budget brand that is very consistent in my opinion, I don’t like all their products, but the ones I do like, I tend to really like.

Their City Radiance foundation has become a Summer favourite that I wear all the time when I want light coverage days, and now their lipsticks are becoming some of my firm favourites too, with this one taking top Bourjois spot.

It is creamy like most good lip crayons, but what I really like about this one is the incredible pigment. You really only need a very small amount to get a great colour pay off, and the finish is a fab high shine gloss that really makes this bright shade pop.

Because of the glossy finish the staying power isn’t amazing, but I can kind of forgive that because the formula is so nice. It applies like a dream on the lips, is very smooth and light, and leaves your lips feeling very soft after wearing it for the day.

All in all, it is a great budget option for an on-the-go, low maintenance lippy. It’s cheap, cheerful, and definitely one that’s impressed me given it’s budget price point.

I’m also just a sucker for the novelty of a lip crayon; I love their fun element and when it’s nice to wear too, it’s a win-win all round!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 198 | Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick in Shade 08

I’m a big fan of Rimmel lipsticks which I’m pretty sure you all know by now, and while I don’t want to be repeating myself, I do think you all need to know why today’s shade is so lovely!

First off, the rich rose colour is just lovely. I wasn’t a particular fan of rose shades before my challenge, but over the past few months they have really started to win me over and now I love them.

Whereas yesterday’s shade was more of a pink rose, this one has a much more earthy tone, and is lovely for any time of year. The cream gloss finish just adds that extra pop to the shade too which I just love.

Cream and matte finished are my favourite finishes in a lipstick, and when that is paired with a smooth texture and moisturising formula, you really can’t go far wrong. And that’s what this Rimmel lippy has in spades.

While I wouldn’t call it a hydrating lipstick per se, it does leave your lips lovely and smooth when it’s applied, particularly as the staying power is pretty damn good too.

Have you tried these Rimmel lippies? Let me know your thoughts so we can compare notes!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 197 | NYX Butter Lipstick in Shade BLS21, Staycation

Over recent years NYX is a brand that has really grown on me. I use their vinyl liquid eyeliner all the time, and many of their lipsticks and glosses that I’ve tried throughout the challenge so far, have been lovely. I think today however, I have discovered my new favourite product from the brand; butter lipstick.

I’ve tried several of their butter glosses over the past few months, and really liked the vinyl non-sticky finish, so I was intrigued to see whether I would like the butter lipstick as much. And not only do I like it as much, I think I like it more!

The formula is extremely creamy without being to thick or thin in consistency, and is super smooth which allows for a gorgeous, even application. I just love how this felt on my lips all day, it has a luxurious feel that really is ‘buttery’ and my lips felt so soft throughout.

The pigment is also gorgeous with great colour pay off; this shade is a deep rose pink shade with a slightly creamy gloss finish and sometimes as you know glossier finishes can be sheer, but this wasn’t sheer at all and was very true to the packaging shade.

The staying power was also good, not quite as good as a matte but still very good, and I didn’t have to reapply too much during the day.

I definitely will be wearing this again, amd buying more shades to try out over the next while!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 196 | Burts Bees Lip Shimmer Balm in Shade, Grapefruit

The last time I wore a Burts Bees balm, it was one of their replenishing lip balms which I really like and have been wearing for a few years now. And because I’m a fan of that, when I stumbled across this shimmer balm the other day, I decided to buy it and see what it was like.

The balm itself is everything you would expect from Burts Bees, it is hydrating, moisturising, and very easy to apply. It feels nourishing the minute you put it on your lips, and definitely leaves them feeling softer than before application.

However, as finishes go, the shimmer element to this is quite similar to that of a frosted lipstick and I’m just not really a fan. I don’t think it helped matters that the shade was very ‘pink’ either, as we all know I’m not a fan of ‘pink’, pinks.

So, I don’t think I would wear the shade again, but I do really love the formula so it’s kind of a catch twenty two situation! Any balm that is moisturising and hydrating is good in my eyes, I just wish there wasn’t so much shimmer. I could cope with a little, but this has quite a lot, and is just not really my thing.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 195 | Penneys PS… Matte Lipkit in Shade Lady in Red

During the week I came home to the most amazing package from the lovely ladies in Penneys; four of their new matte lip kits in the most incredible bold shades. As you can imagine, I was super excited to give these a go so chose a deep red as my Day 195 choice.

First things first: I cannot believe these are from Penneys! The pigment is quite literally, insane it’s so good, and honestly could easily hold its own against any of the top liquid matte lipsticks on the market.

I’ve never been hugely drawn to lip kits as I don’t tend to wear lip liner, but the liner in this kit is so creamy and easy to use, you could nearly use it as a lip crayon on its own! The pigment is equally as good, and the smooth texture makes for a very fine application which is great in a liner.

The lipstick itself is smooth, and although quite wet when you first apply, it dries in no time at all without any dragging or pulling, and leaves the most incredible dramatic pop of colour on the lips.

From the moment I applied it I loved it, and I just knew it was going to be a good lipstick day!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, my lips are a bit drier than normal at the moment so I was nervous that this might make them a whole lot worse, but, it really didn’t at all.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not moisturising and it’s not hydrating, but it’s not drying either and that makes it a complete winner in my book. Plus, it costs €4. Four frickin’ euro people!!!

All the shades in this range are bold and dramatic and I just can’t wait to try the others out. As always, I’ll keep you posted, but for now I will love you and leave you, and go swoon over this lippy a little bit longer!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 194 | KKW x Kylie Cosmetics Creme Liquid Lipstick in Shade Kiki

Well, before I even go into my thoughts on today’s Kim Kardashian x Kylie lippy shade, let me tell you, I think this is one of the most disappointing beauty releases ever. This year, it’s right up there with the complete let down that the Benefit Double the Lip lipsticks were, and it’s not getting any better the more I wear.

For those of you who didn’t catch my earlier posts on these liquid lipsticks, the come in a set of four nude shades and I’ve tried two so far: Kimberly which I didn’t like at all, and Kimmie which won me over. Two very contrasting views on two very different shades.

Because of my two different experiences, I was 50/50 on whether I liked these but knew the next shade I tried would make my mind up once and for all, and that it has.

I don’t really like them.

Shade Kimmie is a lovely caramel nude shade and yes, I will wear it again. But as for the other two? Nah.

The pigment isn’t good, and I know nude shades can be like that, but because the consistency is so wet, when you try to layer and build the colour it just doesn’t work. In these photos, I have at least five layers of the lipstick on to try get any sort of colour because it kept dragging all the colour underneath. But worst of all, this time when it did eventually dry, it stained my lips the weirdest shade of pink – nothing remotely resembling the shade it was actually mesnt to be.

What’s more, it cracked and flaked and honestly, left my lips both looking and feeling awful.

In the interests of fairness, my lips were a bit dryer than normal today, but still, I wasn’t expecting this. The only real thing I had liked about the formula on previous occasions was the creamy texture which was nice and moisturising, but for some reason, today that was nowhere to be seen.

It’s all just one big giant disappointment and like Kimberly, this shade will remain in the box for the foreseeable future.

Have any of you tried these yet? Please tell me I’m not the only one thinking this?!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 193 | MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Shade, Relentlessly Red

Ahhh, Relentlessly Red, one of my absolute favourite lipsticks! I love my challenge, I love trying new lippies, but nothing quite makes me as happy than the days I share my ultimate favourites.

I discovered this shade about a year and a half ago and it was love at first site. I adore the raspberry pink tone, and though some people find the retro matte finish drying, I just adore it for its incredible staying power.

The trick with wearing a retro matte finish is to prime your lips with a good lip primer beforehand. Once you do that, your lips should be nice and smooth, and ready for a stay-all-day look. Or if you’re not a fan of primers, you could also try a lip scrub to help pull away the dead cells and make your lips super smooth and ready to go!

The retro matte formula is dry when you apply it so having your lips as smooth as possible definitely helps to create an even colour, but I find that it blends pretty well so I wouldn’t worry about it too much if you don’t suffer from dry lips in general.

The shade itself is just perfect for this time of year, the dramatic pop will change any makeup look, and it’s a gorgeous choice for holidays too – I’ll be devastated I can’t take it off to the sun with me this year now that I’ve already worn it because usually, this one never leaves my side on holiday!

I love everything about this lippy from the pigment, the colour pay off, the coverage, the staying power; everything! I know it won’t be for everyone because of its dry texture, but if you haven’t tried it, you should definitely have a swatch of it in store to see what you think!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 192 | Catrice Ultimate Lip Colour Lipstick in Shade 470, My Little Peony

Catrice lipsticks are one of the best budget lipsticks on the market if you ask me. They could easily be mistaken for a high-end brand due to their gorgeous formula and lovely pigment, and it’s no secret by now what a big fan I am of them.

Today’s lipstick is a lovely rose shade; I’ve become quite the fan of rose tones over the last while, and this one has a lovely cream finish with a very slight shine which makes the lipstick pop just that little bit more.

It is a full coverage lipstick even though there is a slight shine to the finish, and the pigment is just gorgeous. It’s intense and true to colour, and the staying power is also very good too.

I think one of the things I like most about Catrice lippies, is the fact that my lips always feel soft and moisturised after wearing them, almost as if I’ve been wearing a high quality balm. Lots of lippies won’t dry out your lips, but not many have the moisturising element that this does which is why I’m such a big fan.

I hadn’t tried any Catrice products until last year but I’ve really grown to love the brand. It is just such good value, particularly for the quality of the products.

As always, you don’t need this lippy if you’ve got a nice rose shade already, but I definitely don’t think you could go wrong investing in one or two from the collection.
