Simply Lippy Challenge Day 242 | Sleek Matte Me Metallic Lip Cream in Shade 1042, Rusted Rose

You may recall a few days ago I tried out a lovely metallic lipstick from Catrice in a light rose gold shade. I really like it and because of that, I was very excited to try this offering from Sleek to see how it compared.

First off, they are slightly different in that the Catrice option was a lipstick whereas today’s one is a liquid lip cream. Obviously, that will make the textures different, but I was hoping that the colour and finish would be similar but they weren’t.

Today’s metallic is very much a liquid lip in that it’s quite wet when you first apply it, and because of its wetness, it doesn’t have the same coverage that a matte lipstick version would. As I applied it, I noticed it was dragging the colour underneath so wasn’t really giving my lips the metallic impact I was hoping for either.

Apart from having a metallic finish, it also has a matte finish so I was expecting it to dry in and maybe allow me to layer up the colour. Unfortunately it didn’t really dry in the way other liquid mattes would however, and that left me a feeling a bit disappointed.

The colour itself isn’t really my favourite either; I like the hint of gold that you get when it catches the light, but the ‘rose’ is more purple in my opinion and just not really my kind of shade.

The lasting power was okay, not bad really. But because I wasn’t a huge fan of the colour or finish, I kept messing with my lips all day which probably made it wear off more quickly.

I’m usually a big fan of Sleek lippies so this one caught me by surprise, but you can’t like everything and because of that, I don’t think I’ll be using this again.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 241 | Flormar Extreme Matte Lipstick in Shade 02, Pale Pink

Flormar is a brand that has been on my list to try out as I’ve seen a lot of people talking about it lately. Up until now, I’ve never tried any of their products but when I was in the chemist the other day, I picked up a few lipsticks to add to my challenge list.

The first lipstick I chose was one from their Extreme Matte range in a dusty pink shade, which I really like. The pink isn’t too bright with a lovely a rose tone to it, and I’ve become a big fan of rose tone lippies over the course of my challenge.

The pigment is equally as good but unfortunately that’s where the positives end for me because I was really disappointed by the finish.

The finish is super matte, and when they say super matte they really mean it, in fact, it’s so matte that it took a lot of effort to apply the lipstick to my lips. It is so dry that I must have layered it at least ten times to get a good colour transfer, and though I finally got a good colour, I’m just not sure the effort was worth it.

My lips are a little on the dry side anyway as you’ll already know if you’ve been following the blog for a while, but even still,  I think this would be too dry for a lot of people.

It’s a shame, as had this been a slightly more creamy formula I think I would have loved it because of the shade and pigment. But for now, this just isn’t really doing it for me.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 240 | Bourjois Rouge Edition 12 Hours in Shade 30, Prune Afterwork

Although I adore some Bourjois products, I’ve had a very hit and miss relationship with their lipsticks over the years, and particularly over the last eight months with my challenge.

For a brand that does some things so well, I’ve never been blown away by their lipstick formulas but today I decided to try something new from them to see if it helped change my opinion at all.

The Rouge Edition 12 Hours range claims to have a formula that lasts for 12 hours, and right off the bat I’m just going to tell you not to get your hopes up because it just doesn’t. The lasting power is probably the best of all the Bourjois lipsticks that I’ve tried, but we’re talking maybe two to three hours longevity depending on what you eat or drink.

Naturally when something claims to have that kind of lasting power, you’re going to be disappointed when it lets you down and I was disappointed. But thankfully, that’s where the disappointment ended.

This lipstick has a lovely rich, creamy texture, and is surprisingly very different from their other offerings that I’ve tried. It is smooth, very blendable and the pigment is really great, so much so, I almost did a double take to make sure it was definitely a Bourjois lippy that I was using!

It’s not that I dislike their other lip products, they are fine and some of the shades are gorgeous, but they’ve always just left me feeling very ‘meh’. So, credit where credit’s due, because I’m very happy to report that apart from the lasting power, I really liked this lipstick today and was very impressed by how moisturised my lips felt throughout the day, as well as by how much I liked the shade itself.

The finish is a semi-matte or cream matte as I like to call it, and when blending, it didn’t pull or drag any of the colour underneath which is one of the things that has annoyed me previously with their lip products.

Finally I feel like Bourjois may be on to a winner with this range, and while the 12 Hour claim is definitely a stretch, for me, the creaminess of the lipstick itself definitely makes up for that.

What do you guys think, have you tried these and do you love them or hate them? I know some people may feel totally different than I do so as always, comment below and let me know your thoughts!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 239 | Catrice Metalip Colour in Shade C02, Meet Metalย

It’s no secret by now that I’m a big fan of Catrice lipsticks, most of their lippies that I’ve tried have a lovely creamy pigment and some of them have become new favourites.

When I spotted this new limited edition metallics range the other day, I was naturally very excited to try them out, mostly to see how good the pigment is because I find a lot of metallic lipsticks aren’t that great. It’s hard to find a metallic that doesn’t have a lot of shimmer in it, which I really don’t like at all in a lippy.

Of course, as is nearly always the case with Catrice, I needn’t have been concerned because although light, the pigment in this lipstick is actually pretty good, and definitely has a metallic shine to it. It catches the light like only a metallic can, and has the most gorgeous rose gold tone to it that I absolutely love.

Thankfully there are no shimmer particles in the finish, which means that the formula is creamy and moisturising, and feels very smooth on the lips while you wear it.

The only real downside to this lippy is the lasting power which isn’t anything to write home about. It could be because the shade is so light, but it didn’t last too long after eating and drinking. Overall it didn’t bother me too much though because honestly, I loved having rose gold lips for the day!

This won’t be to everyone’s taste and is definitely more of an occasion lip than an everyday choice. In saying that, I’m loving everything rose gold at the minute so I loved wearing this for the day too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 238 | Burt’s Bees Refreshing Lip Balm in Shade Pink Grapefruitย

Back at the beginning of my challenge on Day 73, I wrote about one of the Burt’s Bees tinted balms which I’ve been using for a long time now.

Up to now, I’ve never tried any of the other balms in the range so I decided to buy another one to see how it faired up against the Pomegranate shade that I’d previously used.

I was expecting this to have a coloured or tinted balm but it actually didn’t which I was surprised by given that I wanted my lips to have a very subtle colour. But, given I bought it for the purposes of the challenge and wanted a natural makeup day, I tried it out and liked it.

As balms go, it’s hydrating and moisturising, and the pink grapefruit scent smells just gorgeous! Sometimes I find scented products can be a bit sickly but this is lovely.

I’m disappointed there was no tint, so it didn’t really do what I wanted it to do but I wasn’t feeling great so had a very lazy day at home, so the balm was the perfect lip product for the day that was in it.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 237 | NYX Matte Lipstick in Shade MLS24, Street Cred Authentique

NYX is a brand that I’ve grown to love over the past year or so. I swear by some of their products like their vinyl liquid eyeliner which is my current go-to eyeliner, and their matte lipstick range is quickly becoming my favourite lip offering from them too.

The matte finish in these lipsticks is matte without being super matte, and has a lovely creaminess to it when you apply. Because of that, you get all the blendability of a cream finish lipstick but the lasting power of a matte – the best of both worlds really.

The pigment is lovely and the colour pay off is equally as good. Just a few light layers gives your lips a full, opaque coverage which I love because opaque finishes are always my preference over sheer ones.

The shade itself is a raspberry pink, maybe ever so slightly more pink than I would like it to be, but its rich coral tone makes up for that, plus the fact that I just really love the formula.

For their price point, these lipsticks are honestly such great value and a great option if you don’t want to splurge on a more high-end brand.

What do you guys think? Have you tried NYX lipsticks? As always, send all your thoughts and comments my way, I love hearing about all your lipstick loves and loathes too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 236 | Penneys PS… Kiss Proof Liquid Matte Lipstick in Shade, Impose

I’ve tried many Penneys’ lipsticks over the course of the past eight months, most of which I’ve liked, some of which I’ve loved, and today’s shade I’m happy to say, falls into the ‘love’ category.

Recently, Penneys brought out a new range of matte lip kits which I’ve totally fallen in love with, but in the process, forgot how good some of their previous liquid matte offerings were.

Today’s shade is from their Kiss Proof range and is just divine! It’s a very bright pink which we all know can be dangerous territory for me depending on the tone, but actually, I found myself loving this pop of brightness all day.

The formula is quite wet on application allowing you to blend and get an even, opaque coverage before it dries in. Once dry, you’re left with a super matte finish that has really incredible staying power for a budget brand, and although it does get quite dry, my lips weren’t dehydrated after wearing it which was a pleasant surprise.

I’ve tried so many different lipsticks; 236 is a lot, and because of that, I sometimes forget about the lippies that I’ve really liked, but I don’t think I’ll forget this one in a hurry. I’m just obsessed with it!

It has to be said, Penneys are really giving some of the more expensive brands a run for their money in the beauty stakes at the moment and I, for one, am loving it!

If you’re a fan of liquid mattes and you love a bargain, then seriously buy one of these because they could be right up your street.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 235 | Wet n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stain in Shade E1581, See If I Carrot!

Many of my regular followers will know that I’ve become quite the fan of these balm stain lip crayons from Wet n Wild over the last six or so months of my challenge. I’ve always liked lip crayons in general, my favourite being Clinique’s Chubby Sticks, but I’ve been pretty impressed by some of the more budget friendly brands lately too.

These balm stains are soft, creamy and very nice to wear on the lips. Up to now, I’ve pretty much given all the shades I’ve tried a fairly positive review, some even great reviews. However, for the first time today, I’m a little disappointed.

The shade itself is a lovely orange shade, it’s more orange than coral so I was a bit dubious at first, but it actually looks very nice on, especially as it was a sunny day. The formula is creamy so it does feel like a balm as expected, but for some reason I felt that it wasn’t quite as blendable as previous shades.

Maybe it’s because the finish is sheer, but I found the colour dragged as I was blending which was a little annoying. It also didn’t give the same pop of colour that I’m used to with these and the stain element was very uneven.

Now in the interests of fairness, my lips are slightly drier than normal at the moment so maybe it’s me, and not the lippy itself. But even still, I kind of felt a bit irritated by it and half way through the day ended up putting some lip balm on to blend it all out properly.

You win some you lose some as the saying goes, and today’s choice for me was on the losing side. It was fine, but didn’t quite give me the smile that I’m used to getting from these.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 234 | Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Shade 500, Fire Starter

Ah, good old Rimmel. When it comes to lippy, the brand rarely lets me down and that’s true again for this new range of liquid matte lipsticks they released a few weeks ago.

I’ve tried two shades so far in the range, both of which have been light, neutral shades, and while they were nice, it’s the bold shades I’ve been very excited about trying.

The forumula while it applies creamy, does dry in after a minute or two to leave a super matter finish on the lips that literally does not budge. The staying power of these is just incredible, particularly with this bolder shade.

When I first tried these, I liked the pigment as I always do with Rimmel lipsticks, and I was impressed with the staying power – both big positives that I am really liking again today. But for me, the nude shades quite literally, pale in comparison to this! I mean, look at that pigment!

The red is maybe slightly cooler toned than I would usually choose but it gives the most incredible pop of colour to the lips that is just insane! One layer gives amazing colour pay off, and because it applies creamy at first, you can easily blend it before it dries in.

I’m always drawn to bolder shades more than nudes, it’s just the way I was made! So if you’re like me and you love a strong lip then this is a brilliant budget friendly option for the coming Autumn months.

It does start to feel a little dry as the day goes on so if you have dry lips, make sure you’ve moisturised them before applying this. Other than that, this gets a big thumbs up from me.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 233 | Maybelline Baby Lips Colour Balm Crayon in Shade 030, Creamy Caramel

I first tried one of these Baby Lips balms from Maybelline back in June and absolutely loved it. While the bright pink shade, Strawberry Pop, wasn’t my usual choice, the formula was just lovely and by the end of the day I was completely sold on it.

So, when I was out doing my shopping the other day and saw it came in some other shades, I decided to pop this lovely peach toned nude into my trolley and see if I still liked it as much the second time around. The short answer is yes, yes I did.

These are very much a balm and because of that, I think the most surprising thing for me was how great the pigment is, especially on a very nude shade like this one today. Sometimes with more neutral shades, the pigment can be a little nondescript, but this gave a lovely, light caramel tone to my lips which I really liked.

The texture is super smooth and the formula itself is deliciously creamy – you just feel your lips being moisturised the second you put this on and because of that, it is just so nice to wear.

Its creamy finish means it is very blendable and the thick consistency allows it to give a perfect even distribution of colour, without any dragging or pulling, which again, is a major positive for a balm.

I am just so impressed with these and after today, am liking them even more. If you’re not big into bold lipsticks, these could be a great option for you because while they feel like a balm, they look very much like a good lippy on.
