Simply Lippy Challenge Day 232 | L’Oreal Color Riche Lipstick in Shade Plum Gold

L’Oreal do good lipsticks as a general rule of thumb, but unfortunately for me, their last Color Riche lippy I tried, Magnetic Coral, wasn’t good at all. I still don’t know whether it had gone off or something, but it was grainy and sand-like which made it very unpleasant to wear.

In the interest fairness however, and because I really like so many of their other lip products, I decided to give another one a try and opted for this metallic plum shade called Plum Gold.

Initially I was a bit dubious about it as it has a gold glitter element to it which I thought again might be grainy. Thankfully this time, the texture was a lot smoother and blended well on my lips leaving a soft shimmer from the gold effect.

Berry shades are some of my favourite lipstick shades and though I like this one, I wouldn’t say I love it. It’s fine, but just doesn’t have the same impact for me as say MAC’s Captive did the other day. I don’t tend to like glittery finishes so it could be that, but overall there’s nothing wrong with the lipstick per se.

It is moisturising to wear and does leave your lips feeling nice and soft both during and after application. The cream finish has a nice pigment and the staying power isn’t bad either, the only real negative being that when the colour wears off, you are left with a glitter / shimmer on your lips.

As plums go, I think there are better options on the market, but there’s a lot to be said for the lovely ingredients L’Oreal use in these lippies including Vitamin E and Omega 3 oils. So there are definitely lots of pros to buying one.

For me, I just didn’t love the glitter finish so I’m not sure I’d buy one again.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 231 | NYX Butter Gloss Lip Gloss in Shade BLG28, Pink Buttercream

I first discovered these Butter Gloss lip glosses from NYX a couple of months back and was really impressed by them. I’ve tried a few so far and when I spotted this pink coral shade a few weeks ago, I decided to buy it and it to my list.

I’m not usually a gloss, or sheer finish fan; I find them fine but they wouldn’t be my usual go-to. However, as glosses go, these babies are very easy to wear, and apart from a little stickiness the first time I wore one, I haven’t really noticed any stickiness since with other shades.

Today’s shade, Pink Buttercream, is quite neutral with a sheer finish, but it gives a lovely pink pop of colour to the lips. It is creamy with a vinyl-like finish that is thick but very blendable, and leaves your lips feeling lovely and soft.

I love shades like this for an ‘on-the-go’ kind of day where you just want something understated and low maintenance that you don’t have to worry about flaking or wearing badly. As it’s a gloss, you will have to reapply it, but as it wears off well, you won’t have to worry about it flaking or drying out your lips.

Pinks are funny shades to me, there’s a lot of pink tones that I really don’t like, but as this is more salmon than pink, it’s one that I do really like especially on a sunny day.

What do you think of lip gloss? Do you love it or loathe it?! I’m definitely more of a lipstick girl but every once in a while, these are very nice to wear.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 230 | Tom Ford Lip Color in Shade 09, True Coral

If you caught last week’s Tom Ford post, you will know that it was my first time to try a Tom Ford lippy and I loved it. As it was my birthday, both my hubby and my Mum treated me to a few lippies, and today’s shade is one that my Mum chose for me.

I thought I loved last week’s shade, Wild Ginger, but after trying out today’s shade, True Coral, I realised I love this one even more, if that’s possible.

The shade is my dream coral shade, it is soft, smooth and has an ever so slight salmon pink tone to it which I just adore. It is highly pigmented, deliciously creamy and has incredible colour pay off too.

As if all that wasn’t enough positives, it is also hydrating and moisturising, and leaves your lips feeling super soft throughout the day. The lasting power wouldn’t be the same as that of a matte, but it’s still pretty damn good considering.

I always wondered what a โ‚ฌ48 lipstick would feel like, and honestly, it feels so luxurious. I still don’t know that it warrants the hefty price tag, as I really love some other lipsticks that are half the price. BUT, as treats go, this really is one helluva treat!

If you’re a lipstick lover then I think this is definitely one to add to the birthday or Christmas wish list, it certainly is worth trying at least once. Just make sure you absolutely love the shade to make it worth your while!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 229 | MAC Satin Lipstick in Shade Captive

If you’ve been following me for a while now, you will know that MAC Rebel is one of my all time favourite lipsticks shades, ever! It is the perfect berry shade in my opinion, and I didn’t think anything else could come close to it until I tried this shade.

Also from MAC, Captive, is a gorgeous berry toned lipstick, it doesn’t have the same pink/purple hue that Rebel has, but is pretty close, and I jusy love that it has a creamy satin finish.

As MAC finishes go, Satin is my favourite of all, so having a berry tone lipstick as lovely as this in my favourite finish makes me very happy! I don’t even know how I’m only discovering it now to be honest because it’s like my dream berry shade.

As with all MAC satin lipsticks, the pigment is perfect and gives great colour pay off with only one layer. It blends like a dream and the colour is very buildable too if you want a richer tone.

I love everything about this lippy and I know I’m going to be repurchasing it a lot! If I didn’t have my challenge going on, I’m pretty sure I’d be reaching for it every day this Autumn but I’ll have to wait a little longer to wear it again unfortunately.

Do you like a berry lip? If you’re on the look out for a new autumnal shade then definitely have a swatch of this – it’s the perfect option in my opinion!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 228 | theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipstick in Shade Reliable

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I just love theBalm lipsticks. In fact, I think they might just be my favourite ever liquid lipsticks. Ever!

No matter how many of these I try, no matter what shade, the formula, pigment and staying power is exactly the same; just brilliant. Out of the nine I’ve tried so far this year, including today’s, I can honestly say I like every single one of them.

Of course, some shades I love more than others and that’s just down to personal preference more than anything, but they are all as good as each other when it comes to formula and finish. Not to mention, their peppermint scent makes them smell A-MA-ZING!

Today’s shade is a very autumnal shade, with some brown tones that are perfect for this time of year. It’s not a shade I would normally go for, but found myself really liking it and getting excited for the autumn months ahead.

If you’re a fan of theBalm, these mini sets are great for throwing in your handbag, and especially good for travelling if you want to bring a few different shades away with you.

If you missed my earlier posts on these lippies, you can catch them all below by title:

And if you’ve tried these then let me know what you think! I love hearing your thoughts on the lipsticks I try because not everything suits everyone, and what I might like, others might not like so be sure to comment below and let me know.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 227 | Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Matte-Lip Lip Colour in Shade Ember Red

After two days of pretty disappointing lipsticks, thankfully today’s one is an absolute winner! I have never tried any of the Soap & Glory lippies before today so I didn’t know what to expect, but I have to say, I really like it.

First off, the shade is exactly my kind of shade as my regular followers will know. I love a red lip, particularly one with a warm tone which this one has in spades.

The formula is creamy and very balm-like, in fact for me, this was very much a pigmented lip balm rather than a matte lip colour, mainly because of its creamy finish. So I’m not sure I’d agree with the ‘matte lip’ title.

It is hydrating and moisturising, applied like a dream, blended easily, and the pigment is lovely too with great colour pay off. Basically, all the goods!

I’m a big fan of Soap & Glory body scrubs, but I haven’t tried many of their other products. After today however, I think I’ll be trying some more of these lippies in different shades.

Overall I’m very impressed and really like the formula. So, if you’ve been on the look out for a nice balm with a pop of colour then this is well worth a try!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 226 | L’Oreal Infallible Matte Max Lipstick in Shade 002, Virgin

There’s no beating around the bush with today’s lipstick so I’m going to keep it very short; I did not like it.

Usually L’Oreal have nice lipsticks overall so when I spotted this with its cushion applicator last week I was intrigued to try it out. But when I went to use it this morning, I knew straight away it wasn’t going to go well.

The cushion either wouldn’t pick up enough lipstick, or the lipstick I bought had dried out because it was such an effort to try get any lippy on the brush, let alone on my lips.

The little I did get was dry, hard to blend and didn’t apply well at all. To get any kind of colour, I had to put layer upon layer on my lips and apply to different sections each time. Not really what you want when getting ready in the morning!

I also wasn’t a huge fan of the colour; from the outside I though it would be a nice raspberry pink shade but in reality, it was more like a deep bubblegum shade.

Unfortunately I don’t have anything good to say about it so I think it’s just best to move on. If any of you have tried it though and do like it, then please let me know!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 225 | Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Matte Lipstick in Shade 22, Abricoquette

So far throughout my challenge, I have tried two of these lipsticks from Bourjois, one which I’ve had for a good while and one which I bought new, but after trying today’s shade, I’m wondering why I bothered buying another.

I’ve been in two minds about these, mainly because I just didn’t think the pigment was all that great, and staying power is nothing to write home about either. But, after deciding to give these a second go a few months ago with shade, So Hap’pink, I was beginning to think the pigment might be okay but no, no it’s not.

While the pigment was nicer and the matte finish much better in the last shade, in this one they were both pretty disasterous. The formula was wet, pulled and dragged all the other colour underneath, and blended so unevenly across the lips.

What is meant to be a medium to full coverage matte lipstick, looked more like a sheer wet cream that had split or something, and really did not look good on my lips at all.

It’s a shame really because I liked the look of the colour on the applicator brush and the smooth texture seems so promising in for the first few seconds of application.

It may be the case that this formula and lighter shades just do not go together, but whatever the reason, I’m very disappointed with this and won’t be wearing it again.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 224 | NYX Velvet Matte Lipstick in Shade VMLS12, Charmed

I have tried several NYX lipsticks over the course of the last few months, some which I really like, but until today I hadn’t tried any of the velvet matte range.

So when my Mum picked me up a few shades over the weekend as a surprise, I was very excited to find that they were from the velvet matte collection which I have been wanting to try out for a while.

I kind of feel bad for any lipstick following my two days of high-end luxury in my birthday Tom Ford and Chanel lipsticks; I feel it’s a little unfair to judge anything against them really because they are just so fabulous.

However, this little NYX offering really held its own against them in terms of pigment. The shade is like a burnt or rich caramel, and I love tones like this coming into Autumn.

The formula is matte but not super matte, as it does have a slight creaminess to it, especially on the finish. I wouldn’t say that it felt very moisturising, you do have to apply a layer or two to blend it properly. Having said that however, it was in no way drying and had a lovely velvet feel to it on application as the name suggests.

I liked this, and I do think I will wear it again, especially for the shade. I’m just not sure that I like it as their Butter lipstick which has a gorgeous creaminess to it.

Overall I’m a big fan of NYX as a brand and I don’t think you can go too far wrong with their lip products. I have a few more shades to try out from the range, so I’ll be interested to see if I like it any more when I put those to the test.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 223 | Chanel Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Shade 152, Insaisissableย

If you caught yesterday’s Tom Ford post, you will know that it’s my birthday weekend, yay! And for me, the best way to celebrate is by wearing some seriously luxurious high-end lipsticks.

Yesterday for my actual birthday, I tried out my first Tom Ford lipstick, and today, I got to try out my first Chanel one. Because you know, why not?!

Because of the weekend that was in it, I decided to treat myself to something very special in this Chanel lippy, and the colour I chose I’m sure will be no surprise to my long term followers – a gorgeous pink toned coral that I just adore.

Coral shades are my favourite, especially for Summer, and this lipstick quite honestly, has everything you could want and more. The pigment is divine, and the formula is creamy and blendable, with a gorgeous satin finish to give your lips a lovely sheen glow.

The colour pay off is excellent and it just feels so smooth on your lips, almost balm like but with all the richness of the perfect lipstick. It is full coverage which I love, and the lasting power is perfect as satin finish lipsticks go.

I have fallen totally and utterly in love with this, and I think it may be one of the most perfect lipsticks I have ever tried or worn! What’s more, at โ‚ฌ35 it is cheaper than my Tom Ford offering yesterday and I think I might love it even more than I did that!

Of course a lipstick like this is a complete luxury purchase, so I won’t be able to buy these all the time. However, I am so excited to be able to wear this again once my challenge is over.

I don’t often say that you should go out and buy something, but my god if you do have a hankering to splurge on something luxurious and you like a satin lip, then this lipstick is the perfect purchase.
