Simply Lippy Challenge Day 272 | Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Shade 210, Rose & Shine

I’m sure most of you are already familiar with the Rimmel Stay Matte range which was released a few months back. Of the three shades I’ve tried so far, while I liked the two paler shades, Blush and Be My Baby, it was the third shade Fire Starter that really caught my attention.

Today’s shade is another richer shade; one I would describe as a deep pink rose shade, and I really like it. I always prefer richer shades to nudes and pastels, but liked this colour much more than I thought I would.

The formula as I’ve mentioned before, is quite wet on application, but does have a nice creaminess to it. It takes a few minutes to dry, but once it does, it leaves a super matte finish that stays in place very well.

The formula isn’t hydrating or moisturising so you might find you need a balm after a few hours of wearing if you have particularly dry lips. I didn’t find it drying though, and I liked how it didn’t flake off throughout the day.

The pointed tip makes application very precise, and it blends very easily too to give a full coverage, even when layering up the colour.

Overall I think these are a good liquid matte option, particularly the bolder shades. They are very budget friendly and a little goes a long way too.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 271 | Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream in Shade 435, Petal

I first tried one of these liquid matte lip creams from Sleek a few months back in a lovely deep rose shade called Bittersweet. I really liked both the shade and the finish, so I decided to buy another shade from the range which is my lippy choice for today.

Now first things first, this shade is definitely more of a summer than autumn shade, so I probably should have worn it when the sun was shining a few weeks back. However, it’s nice to brighten up the dull days at the moment and this lippy definitely did that.

Most of you will know that I’m not a huge fan of pale pink or very ‘pink’, pink lipsticks. They kind of just grate on me a little. But this one, has a lovely peachy salmon undertone to it which I found myself really liking as the day went on.

The formula as I mentioned in my last post, is creamy without being too wet, and the drying time is very good leaving a smooth matte finish once fully dried in. It doesn’t flake or crack throughout the day as you wear it, and the lasting power is pretty damn good too.

One thing it isn’t though is moisturising, so I would recommend using a scrub before application or wearing a lip primer underneath to keep your lips from getting too dry. Thankfully, I didn’t find the lippy as drying today as I did the last time though, so that was a pleasant surprise.

As budget lipsticks go, these are a very good choice if you like a matte lip. The colours in the range are rich, bright, and have a gorgeous pigment with medium to full coverage depending on the shade.

2017 has really been the year of the matte lip, and this range is definitely one of the better ones out there. But what do you guys think? Are you a matte lover or do you prefer a more traditional lipstick?

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 270 | Clarins Joli Rouge Long Wearing Lipstick in Shade 754, Deep Red

You may recall that a few weeks ago, the lovely ladies in Clarins sent me some products from their Autumn / Winter 2017 collection, and one of the products they sent me, was this new stunning red lipstick.

They have released three new lipstick shades as part of their AW collection, the first which I tried out last week and loved. Today’s shade is my second shade to try, and I’m loving this one equally as much.

The finish of this lipstick is more glossy than I would usually go for; it has a satin gloss finish that gives the lips a high shine look, and I tend to prefer cream or matte finishes as I’m sure most of you know by now.

However, what makes me love this particular lipstick regardless of the finish, is the fact that it has incredible pigment that gives a gorgeous full coverage finish to the lips, and has very good lasting power too.

The shade itself is slightly more cool toned that I would usually choose, but as I was going to a wedding, I wanted to wear something that would really pop, and this definitely did that.

It wore very well throughout the day and kept my lips very soft and smooth, and only needed to be reapplied after eating lunch. It has a lovely creaminess to it that is very moisturising, and I love how it made my lips feel when I wore it.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge Clarins fan, they do so much, so well, and I’m not adding these lipsticks to my favourites list too.

What do you guys think? Are you a Clarins fan?

Simply Lippy Challennge Day 269 | Tom Ford Lip Colour in Shade, Smoke Red

Today’s lippy shade is a gorgeous raspberry red from Tom Ford, and one that I got as a mini sample with the lipsticks I got from my Mum for my birthday. Firstly, I am totally in love with this mini size packaging, I mean, have you ever seen a cuter lipstick?!

Apart from the packaging which basically had me at hello, this shade is the kind of shade I love. Though it is called Smoke Red, to me the shade is definitely more of a raspberry as it has a very slight pink undertone to it.

The formula, as with all these lippies from Tom Ford, is smooth, creamy and very moisturising. The pigment is rich and bold, and the formula is very blendable and easy to apply.

The finish is a slight satin gloss, not shiny, but does give a nice sheen to the lips. The lasting power is very good for a satin finish, but not as long lasting as a matte or cream as you would expect.

I’ve become so in love with Tom Ford lipsticks since I tried my first one back in August, but as they are ridiculously expensive, it was nice to have this mini freebie to add into my collection.

Have you tried a Tom Ford lippy yet? If so then let me know your thoughts – over rated or worth every cent?!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 268 | KIKO Gossamer Emotion Creamy Lipstick in Shade 131, Tea Rose

As budget brands go, KIKO is one that I’ve always quite liked. A few weeks back I tried my first lipstick from them, and today I’m trying out my second in this lovely rich, rose shade.

I’ve become such a big fan of rose shade lipsticks, but apart from loving the shade, the pigment is so good. It is rich with full coverage, very blendable with great colour pay off, and a little goes quite a long way.

The formula is very creamy and has a gorgeous vanilla scent, similar to the scent that Charlotte Tilbury matte lipsticks, and I absolutely love it. It kept my lips smooth and hydrated all day, and they felt very soft throughout.

I don’t often talk about packaging unless it seriously impresses me, but this one definitely does. The bullet shape is very sleek with a silver metallic finish, and the gold button at the top releases the lipstick from the bullet to open.

It sounds gimmicky but I am always drawn to makeup with good packaging and I’m particularly loving this!

The best thing about KIKO lipstick is the super affordable price point which allows you to splurge without breaking the bank. But also, the quality of product you get for your money is really very good.

I’m so impressed by this lippy and this shade is definitely going to be a regular in my makeup bag once my challenge has finished.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 267 | Clinique Superbalm Moisturising Gloss in Shade 02, Raspberry

When it comes to lip gloss, I’ve always had a kind of love or hate relationship with them. Nine times out of ten, I will choose a lipstick over a gloss, but every so often, I want to just put a lick of something subtle on my lips and go.

Today’s choice was exactly the kind of lippy that let me do just that, especially as it was the last day of holidays and we were travelling home, so the last thing on my mind yesterday was rocking a strong lip!

When in the airport last week, I picked up this gloss in the Loop Duty Free on my way out to Tenerife and was excited to give it a try. I’m a huge fan of Clinique’s chubby sticks, and because of that, I had high hopes for their gloss too.

Overall I would say I liked it, but I wasn’t overwhelmed by it and definitely don’t love it. It was perfectly fine as glosses go; it has a nice non-sticky formula, which feels oil based without being greasy and didn’t dry out my lips either. But, it just didn’t do a whole lot for me.

I was hoping there might be a soft raspberry tint to the gloss given the colour of the gloss in the tube, but it applies very much like a clear gloss with no colour. It is also fragrance free which usually I don’t mind, but I found myself searching for that raspberry scent that just wasn’t there!

So if you’re a gloss person I would say this is fine, but it’s not the best gloss I’ve ever tried and I’m not sure I’ll be in a rush to wear it again.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 266 | MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Shade, Crosswires

You all know by now how much I love MAC lipsticks. To me, it’s what MAC do best and while there are some shades that wouldn’t be to my taste, nearly every lipstick I’ve tried from MAC, I have liked or loved.

Today’s shade, Crosswires, is a kind of muted coral shade. It’s not bright like most corals, but has more of a caramel undertone to it which really grew on me the longer I wore it. I love the subtlety of the shade; it’s bright enough for a Summer or holiday lip, but it’s also not too dramatic if you want a more neutral or relaxed look.

Cremesheen finishes aren’t my favourite MAC finish, but I still like them nonetheless because of the soft, sheer glow they give the lips. The pigment is on point as always, and the colour pay off is also great, even though it has a slightly sheer finish.

The formula is creamy, and has that delicious vanilla scent you get with so many MAC lippies; I just can’t ever resist it because it’s sweet but not overpowering at all.

Lasting power isn’t as great as their creme or matte finishes, but is still pretty good and this one held up very well, particularly in the Tenerife heat which was a pleasant surprise. I thought the heat may have a melting affect on the lippy but it didn’t at all so that’s definitely a bonus if you’re still to head off on holiday.

I ended up really liking this shade and think it’s a great all-rounder choice for both day and night wear. It isn’t too dramatic, but has just enough colour to lift any makeup look.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 265 | Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Shade Thrill Seeker

Okay, I think I’ve died and gone to lipstick heaven! Oh who am I kidding, that happens me all the time, but today’s lipstick is as pretty close to perfect as you can get.

I’ve tried a lot of Smashbox products over the years, many of which I’ve loved, but for some reason had never tried one of their lipsticks until today. And now, I don’t know why I left it this long.

The formula of these liquid lippies is so creamy, yet when it dries in, gives a lovely matte finish to the lips with the most incredible lasting power. In fact, I think this might be one of the best lipsticks I’ve ever tried for lasting power that doesn’t crack or flake after a while.

The shade is, let’s be honest, what dreams are made of! It is the perfect orange toned red, somewhere in between MAC’s Lady Danger and YSL’s Le Orange in colour. It is my favourite kind of shade and I really did not want to take it off at the end of the day.

The applicator is also brilliant, it has a triangle brush tip, very similar to the YSL Lip Creams and Armani Lip Magnets, both of which I adore for that very reason, and this is no different. The pointed tip makes application so precise and easy, and gives the perfect full coverage to the lips when you apply.

It is moisturising and smooth to wear, and I would happily wear it every day if I could! While there’s only 100 days left of my challenge (can you believe it?!), and I still have a lot more lippies to try, I can’t wait to be able to wear this again.

It was just lovely in every way and one I would definitely recommend if you like a liquid matte lip.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 264 | theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Shade Romantic

Today’s lipstick was my last mini lipstick from my second Meet Matt(e) Hughes mini set that I bought a few months back. I’ve now tried twelve shades from the collection, liked them all, and loved quite a few.

I was saving today’s shade as I had a feeling it would be one of my favourites; it is rich and bold, and as with all the lippies in this collection, has the most amazing pigment.

As far as shades go, I was actually expecting this to have more of a raspberry undertone than red; for some reason I thought it looked slightly raspberry in the tube. However, even though it didn’t have the tone I expected, it was still lovely nonetheless – I just might have saved it for a more autumnal day and not for holidays!

The formula, as I’m sure you know if you’ve been keeping up with my posts, is very long lasting and you get an incredible pay off from just one layer. It is blendable, creamy, and the peppermint addition to the formula gives your lips a nice tingle on application too.

Of all the liquid lipsticks I’ve tried over the past year, these are definitely my favourite, and so many of the shades I will wear over and over again.

They don’t dry out your lips, they don’t crack or flake, and some of the shades are just to die for!

What do you guys think? Hands up if you’ve tried one of these! And if not, then what’s your favourite liquid lipstick? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts so comment below and let me know…

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 263 | Shiseido Rouge Rouge Lipstick in Shade OR417, Fire Topaz

There’s nothing I love more in this world than a bright lipstick, and today’s shade might just be one of the best and brightest that I’ve tried for a while.

Up to now, I’ve always associated Shiseido with skincare; I’m not sure why really, but I never really thought of makeup, or lipstick, when I thought of the brand. However, when out wandering in the Tenerife shops, this stunning bright orange shade caught my eye and the rest as they say, is, history.

In the same way a magpie is drawn to shiny objects, I am drawn to bright lipsticks. And if that bright lipstick is orange or coral in tone, then I’m a gonner. There’s just no resisting a bright orange lip, particularly when away on holidays!

This orange is the perfect orange; it’s slightly muted so it’s not neon or super bright, but it’s bright enough to make an impact and that’s good enough for me. Just a few light layers of this and I got the pop of colour I was hoping for, made all the more better by its lovely formula.

The formula is creamy but not too creamy, it blends perfectly, and is very easy to apply. The finish is matte which makes the staying power pretty good too, even in the heat of the Tenerife sun. I did have to reapply after eating, but I’ve a sneaking suspicion that’s more to do with the heat than the formula.

I love nothing more than discovering a new lipstick brand, and while I’m aware that Shiseido has been around for quite some time, I just can’t believe I haven’t tried any of their makeup products before now.

I’m a little gutted I won’t get to wear this again during my holiday, but I’ll definitely be looking forward to wearing it again when my challenge is over.
