There is just something about a YSL lipstick that truly makes you feel spoiled when you are wearing it. From the luxurious formula to the smooth finish, there is very little I don’t like about the Rouge Pur Couture range.
You may know already that my favourite ever lipstick in life is YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture in Shade 13, Le Orange which I wore very early on in my challenge. I’ve been in love with it for years and think I always will be really.
Today however, I’m trying out a different shade, Black Red, which I would describe as a deep red cherry shade, and not one I would usually opt for. It has a cool tone, and I do prefer warmer tones, but there’s something about the sultry look of this one that I really like.
The formula, like all lippies in this range, is creamy and highly pigmented, giving incredible colour pay off as soon as it’s applied. The creaminess makes it very blendable, and a little goes a long way because of that too.
Staying power with this is pretty good for a satin finish; the finish itself does have a slight gloss to it which gives the lips a lovely sheen but because of that, it doesn’t have the same lasting power as that of a matte or cream.
While I love the richness of this, it’s definitely a break away from my normal tones which I wasn’t sure about at first. But, after wearing it for a while, I started to really warm to it and think it would be a lovely shade for winter.
I am definitely more drawn to berry and plum shades in general, but like so many things with makeup, it all comes down to personal preference. What’s your favourite lipstick shade?!
Last week, the lovely ladies in Clarins sent me some of their Autumn/Winter 2017 Graphik collection, and part of that, is today’s Simply Lippy choice, a gorgeous new addition to their Joli Rouge collection.
The shade itself is a lovely soft rose shade; it has a sheer gloss finish whilst still having a gorgeous pigment, and it was the perfect choice for a day in the sun today.
I tend to prefer cream and matte finishes as you all know, but the lightness of this formula makes it so nice to wear.
I’ve only tried one of the Joli Rouge lipsticks before today, and what I liked most about it was how hydrating it was on my lips. Thankfully, this lipstick has the same lovely hydrating formula that leaves your lips feeling smooth and soft all day long.
Because of its gloss finish, it adds a pop of shine to the lips that you don’t get with other lippy finishes, and that also makes it super easily to blend and apply.
The colour is slightly more pink on my lips than it looks in the bullet; I was expecting a slightly darker tone when I first saw it. In saying that, I still really like the colour that gave my lips, especially as it’s the perfect holiday shade.
The one downside to this lipstick is the staying power which isn’t amazing. But, it’s what I would expect from a gloss finish lipstick so I wasn’t disappointed by that at all. But just note if you do purchase, you will need to reapply after eating and drinking.
Clarins do some really amazing products and I’ve definitely become a fan of their lipsticks over the past year. This shade is subtle, soft and really lovely for a day when you want something a little different.
Ever since I read an amazing review of Dose Of Colours lipsticks a few months back, I have been dying to try them out. Thankfully, I finally got my hands on one of their satin lippies last week so of course, packed it straight into my suitcase to try while I was away.
I’ve only worn this for one day, but already I love eveything about it. The gold bullet packaging is to die for, I love the size of it too, and the angled lipstick tip makes application super easy and precise.
Apart from the look, the shade itself is a deep brown toned burgundy shade, and one that I could see myself wearing all Autumn long. It is rich, with a gorgeous pigment and very true to the bullet colour even when applied.
The formula is rich and creamy, with an incredibly smooth texture that glides on the lips and makes them feel lovely and soft all day long. It’s exactly the kind of formula that I love with the satin finish being the icing on the cake.
Even in the heat, the staying power was pretty great for a satin finish and lasted pretty well throughout dinner too. I honestly don’t think I have a bad word to say about it which is the best feeling ever! I just love when a lipstick lives up to expectations.
I’m so glad I finally took the plunge and bought this, and if you’re a lipstick lover like me, then I think you might like this too. At €17 (available from Cloud 10 Beauty), it has a pretty good price point for the quality, and the brand is also vegan friendly and cruelty free too.
I first tried one of these liquid lipsticks from Urban Decay when they were released back in March, in a lovely muted pink shade called Balktalk. I hadn’t intended on waiting so long to try my next shade from them as I really liked it, but there have been a lot to get through as you know!
So when I was picking up a few new shades for my holidays and saw this neon coral shade, I couldn’t resist buying it. I love bright lipsticks as I’m sure you all know by now, and this is the perfect holiday shade.
The formula is very creamy for a liquid lipstick, and therefore glides on easily to the lips with little or no effort. The pigment like all Urban Decay lippies, is stunning and has gives amazing colour pay off too.
I did notice that in the Tenerife heat, it did take a little longer to dry in than I remembered, but what’s a few extra minutes on holiday?! Once dry, it stayed in place pretty damn well, even with the 26 degree balmy evening.
It did flake a little when eating dinner so that was slightly disappointing. But as that didn’t happen to me the last time I wore it, I’m putting that down to the heat and not the formula itself.
Overall I absolutely adore this shade and it was the perfect shade to start my holiday off on a bright, sunny note. I do prefer their lipsticks over their liquid lipsticks, but this was a nice change today.
Have any of you tried these yet? By all accounts they are getting good reviews in the beauty world and if you’re a liquid fan, they come in some stunning shades too!
It’s been a long time since I’ve worn one of Benefit’s lip balms and I almost forgot how much I liked them until I decided to wear Posie Balm today.
Very excitingly, today we hopped on a plane to come away on our holidays, so I wanted something very easy to wear that would also keep my lips hydrated while flying. I don’t know about you, but I always get very bad dry lips on flights, so Posie Balm was the perfect travel choice.
These balms have a very slight tint; this one gives the lips a soft peach-pink tone which is lovely for a natural, understated makeup day. The colour is subtle so don’t expect a pop, but it does give them a nice soft lift.
Jojoba is one of the main ingredients in these balms making them super hydrating and moisturising, and my lips felt amazingly soft all day long.
The formula is thick enough to let you know you’re wearing a balm, and has a lovely richness to it while also being very smooth and easy to apply.
Now that I’ve remembered how much I like these, I’ll definitely be repurchasing some of the other shades for my challenge. They are the perfect lippy for a day when you want something easy, low maintenance and moisturising.
What do you guys think, have you ever tried one of these balms? They are the perfect addition to any autumn makeup bag, especially if you’re prone to dry lips from the colder weather!
It’s been quite a while since I’ve worn any KIKO makeup products, but as budget brands go, this is one of the better ones out there. I’ve always been partial to their powder highlighters but until now, hadn’t tried any of their lipsticks.
Luckily for me, my mum was away for a few days and picked up a few for me to put to the test and the first one I’m trying out today is this gorgeous red toned grape shade.
As with all my new lipstick choices for my challenge, I only wear each lipstick for one day so it’s hard to give a thorough, full review. So my posts are always more ‘first impressions’ than anything else and my first impressions of this are very good.
The pigment is lovely and very true to the colour you expect it to be. It has a sheer to cream finish which gives a medium coverage to the lips, and great colour pay off too.
One thing I really liked about wearing it was the super moisturising element; it reminded me very much of Catrice in this sense. The formula was very creamy giving it a balm like feel, and because of that my lips felt so soft all day.
The finish was maybe just a little sheer in coverage for me; when it comes to rich shades like this I love a full, opaque coverage on my lips. In saying that however, I was very impressed with it overall given the super cheap price point and look forward to trying out the other shades I have.
It’s no secret by now that when it comes to lipstick, I’ve become a huge fan of Penneys products. They manage to do pigment so well and that’s particularly true when it comes to some of their liquid mattes.
Today’s shade is a gorgeous bright red, a classic red as I would describe it, and as you can see from the pictures, the pigment is just incredible. One layer of this gives an amazing colour pay off, and the shade looks exactly the same on your lips as it does in the tube.
In terms of formula, these are quite wet initially so they do take a few minutes to dry. However, once dry, the staying power is really brilliant, and it doesn’t crack on your lips throughout the day.
There is no real hydrating or moisturising element to the Kiss Proof range, so making sure your lips are hydrated before you apply the lippy, is definitely a good idea. But I didn’t find it drying on my lips either which was a major plus, especially as I suffer from dry lips in general.
I really can’t get over how good these are given the low price point; you don’t expect them to be as good as they are when you first try one, but believe me, the surprise is worth it!
If you’ve been keeping up with this week’s lippy choices, you’ll know that I only wore one of these Catrice Ultimate Colour lipsticks the other day in a gorgeous plum shade. Usually I don’t wear the same range or brand so closely together, but I woke up with incredibly dry lips today and because of that, had to wear something light and very blendable. Hello Catrice!
This lippy is brilliant for a dry lip day; I’m sure many of you have suffered with dry cracked lips at some point, and if so, you’ll know that it’s almost impossible to wear a heavy lipstick when they are cracking and flaking. However, this range is so creamy that you just about get away with it.
Apart from the creaminess which you all know I love in this collection, this shade is just gorgeous too. It has a lovely rose-caramel tone perfect for a cold autumn day, and I love the warmess that it gives your lips too.
The formula has a lovely consistency and while it’s thick enough to give full coverage, it’s not too thick, allowing it to blend easily and work around the dryness and flaking. Plus, the lasting power is pretty great too for a cream finish lipstick.
As budget brands go, for me, Catrice really is one of the best out there. I honestly believe everyone should have at least one of their cream finish lipsticks in their collection, especially as they are so budget friendly.
What do you think? Have you tried any of their lipsticks? If so I’d love to hear your thoughts so let me know!
There’s nothing I love more in a lipstick than a great pigment, and these matte finish lipsticks from NYX have it in spades. The weird thing is, when I first tried one of these back in June, I really didn’t like it; it was very dry with bad pigment, and I didn’t think I’d try one again.
Fast forward to now and I’ve tried two more shades since which I absolutely love, and particularly Street Cred Authentique, which I tried out a few weeks ago. It’s funny how a bad experience can totally put you off something but if you give it another try, it sometimes surprises you and that’s what happened with this range for me.
All the colours I’ve tried recently, including this gorgeous raspberry shade today, have gorgeous pigment and the colour pay off is brilliant too.
The matte finish is quite matte, but just creamy enough to allow you to apply and blend well, before it settles into the lips. There is almost a stain like quality to it too as the staying power is really very good, and you won’t get this lippy off your lips without putting in a bit of effort.
The curved angle at the top of the lipstick itself, is designed to cover the shape of your lips perfectly, and definitely allows for an easier application. The pointed tip makes it easy to define the edges without the use of a lip liner, and then you just apply the rest with the curve and you’re on your way.
Have any of you tried this range from NYX? If so I’d love to hear what you think given my two very different impressions!
If you’re a MAC fan and a lipstick fan, then I’m pretty sure you’ll either have heard of Velvet Teddy or tried it. This shade has become one of MAC’s cult favourite lipsticks among many beauty lovers over the years, me included.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve worn this shade, so much so, I couldn’t find it in my lippy collection. So I must have used it up or lost it, but either way, I had to buy it again as soon as I realised I didn’t have it anymore!
Velvet Teddy is a gorgeous caramel shade and is part of the matte range which I absolutely adore. Similarly to Charlotte Tilbury mattes, MAC mattes are creamy, non-drying, and feel lovely to wear.
This is the perfect lipstick shade in my opinion because anyone can wear it. It suits all skin tones, goes with absolutely eveything, and looks equally as good on in day time as it does for a night on the tiles.
Because of the matte finish, the lasting power of this lipstick is really brilliant, made even better by the brilliant colour pay off you get when you apply it. As with all MAC lippies, the pigment is perfect, and gives your lips the perfect pop of colour for any occasion.
I love this shade for any time of year, but particularly around this time of year. It’s earthy yet warm, and is the perfect Autumnal choice if you’re ready to move away from brighter corals and pinks.
Have you tried Velvet Teddy? For me, it’s up there in my Top 15 favourite ever lipsticks and will remain there for a long time to come too!
