Simply Lippy Challenge Day 303 | The Body Shop Born Lippy Lip Balm in Shade Raspberry

Today’s lippy is one that took me on a very big trip down memory lane. I used to wear these Body Shop Born Lippy lip balms all the time when I was younger, but had almost forgotten about them until I was in picking up some body butter a few weeks back and saw this sitting on the counter.

Of course as always, I had to buy it for my challenge and the minute I applied it, so many memories came flooding back, mainly due to the Raspberry scent which is lovely.

The formula is slightly tinted, however, I did remember it being more tinted than it was today; there really wasn’t much of a colour on my lips after applying it.

The balm itself is thick and creamy, and a very small amount will leave them feeling lovely and soft. It isn’t the most hydrating balm I’ve tried as it did slightly sit on my lips rather than soak in, yet they did feel smooth throughout the day.

The pot is small and a handy handbag size, so it’s definitely a good option for throwing in your bag when you’re out and about on the go and need a balm fix.

It’s not the best balm I’ve ever tried but it does smell gorgeous and leaves a lovely soft shine to the lips that adds a bit of dimension to them.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be wearing this again, for the sentimental value if nothing else! I’m a huge fan of the Body Shop products in general and love that this is full of good ingredients too.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 302 | Essence Ultra Last Instant Colour Lipstick in Shade 08, Eternal Beauty

When it comes to essence products, for me their lipsticks really aren’t too bad for a budget brand. Of all that I’ve tried so far, I’ve been pretty impressed by most of them and some I would definitely wear again. But today’s shade, I think is my favourite of them all.

The shade itself is a very subtle rose, made all the more subtle by the slightly sheer cream-gloss finish. When I first applied it, I loved how it just glided on and blended in, and it had a nice smooth texture to it also.

It’s not thick or luxuriously creamy, but there is just enough moisturisation to make your lips feel soft while you wear it, and the pigment wasn’t bad for the finish either.

When it comes to staying power, I’ve definitely tried better; you aren’t going to get hours out of this lipstick. But actually, I kind of liked that because I was in the mood for something very soft and subtle, and this almost felt more like a tinted balm, albeit not as hydrating.

I think shades like this are perfect for when you want a carefree, natural makeup day and I think that’s what I liked most about this. It is pigmented enough to lift the lips, but understated and soft for a relaxed Sunday afternoon.

Have any of you tried Essence’ lippies? I’d love to hear what you think too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 301 | elf Cosmetics Lip Colour in Shade, Tea Rose

I’ve been very excited about the launch of elf Cosmetics, which arrived in Ireland this Autumn. A lot of bloggers I follow have great things to say about the brand, so naturally I’ve been excited to start trying out some of their products.

Of course, my first purchase had to be a lipstick and the one I opted for was this matte lip colour pencil in a soft mauve – rose shade, and I have to say, first impressions are pretty good.

The colour went on a little purple at first, so initially I wasn’t sure about it, but once it dried in, it became much more rose in tone and I ended up really liking it.

The pencil itself is quite thin, thinner than I was expecting, but it actually makes application easier than you’d think. You can line the lips first then build out the colour easily to give a full coverage and its creamy texture makes it blend perfectly.

The lip colour contains some great ingredients like Vitamin A, E and C to give a very hydrating formula which is moisturising too, and it leaves the lips feeling very soft and smooth when you wear it.

I was surprised by the quality of the lippy especially given the very budget friendly price point, and the staying power was equally as impressive. The colour wore very well throughout the day with no cracking or flaking, and overall I really liked it.

I can definitely see myself wearing this one again. What about you guys, have you tried elf yet?

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 300 | Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Illuminizer in Shade Fenty Glow

If you’re a makeup lover then I’ve no doubt you’ve been hearing lots of hype around Rihanna’s new makeup collection, Fenty Beauty. There was so much hype in the beginning, I was skeptical as to whether it really would be any good, but after hearing good review after good review, I decided to make a few purchases and see for myself.

The first thing I got was this gorgeous lip gloss, the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb. It comes in one universal nude rose shade which is complimentary to all skin tones, and as I’m not usually a huge lover of lip gloss, I was surprised by how much I like it.

The texture is very thick; it reminds me of MAC’s high shine lip glass in that sense, and it has a lovely luxurious feel to the finish. It is a super high shine formula, and there is some stickiness to it because of that, but thankfully only very slightly.

The shade as I mentioned is a very neutral shade with a rose gold shimmer that brings a nice texture to the finish. It adds an extra dimension to the gloss that otherwise might seem a bit flat, and has just the perfect amount of shimmer without looking glittery.

The lasting power isn’t much to write home about but that’s exactly what I would expect from a gloss so it wasn’t surprising. Nor did it really bother me.

As the shade is so neutral, I personally would prefer a bit more pigment, but I do think the gloss would look gorgeous layered over a darker lipstick to add another dimension. I could definitely see it working well layered over some of my favourite nude and caramel shades like MAC Velvet Teddy or NYX Charmed, for example.

Another thing I really like about it, is the very thick applicator brush. Usually, I tend to prefer thinner brushes that are angled for a more precise application, however, with this, the thick brush actually applies so well and feels very nice on the lips too.

It retails in Ireland for €17 which is a little on the pricey side for a lip gloss, but if you’re a lip gloss lover then it’s definitely one of the nicer ones I’ve tried in recent years.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 299 | Penneys PS… Matte Lip Kit in Shade Riot

A few different shades of these matte lip kits were sent to me a few months ago by the lovely ladies in Penneys and I’ve really liked every shade I’ve tried so far. From very nude to rich red, there is a great colour range and this one today might just be one of my favourites.

It is a very bold purple berry shade so it’s not for the faint hearted, but I love a dramatic lip shade like this every so often and what better time to wear a purple lip than for a Friday night out.

I decided to pair it with a very dark smokey eye rather than the usual lick of eyeliner, and I loved the pop of colour that this gave to my makeup look.

The first step of applying this duo is lining the lip. As with the previous lip kits, I was surprised by how creamy the lip liner is which makes it very easy to apply.

The formula of the lipstick itself is very wet when you first apply it, but it dries in quickly to leave a smooth matte finish with an intense pigment and great colour pay off.

If you’ve been following my challenge all year, you’ll know that Penneys lip products have continued to impress me and some of them have become my new favourites. I love the sultry look of this particular one and think it is a fab winter lip option if you’re a fan of a bold lip.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 298 | Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick in Shade E922B, Coral Corruption

I first tried one of these liquid catsuit matte lipsticks from Wet n Wild over the Summer after reading lots of good reports about them on different social media channels. The first shade I tried Give Me Mocha, was a lovely caramel shade with gorgeous pigment so I had high hopes for today’s shade too.

In a nutshell, I really wasn’t disappointed by either the shade or pigment, and the soft coral tone was just lovely. It wasn’t as bright as most corals, but I quite liked the neutral feel of it, especially for an autumn day.

The colour payoff is brilliant and though it is a liquid formula, it’s not too wet meaning it has a nice creamy feel to it too. It blends well and doesn’t drag the colour like some liquid lipsticks, and once dry, has a lovely soft matte finish with excellent staying power.

I did find it got quite dry as the day went on, but not so dry that I disliked it which made all the difference. I needed to reapply it after eating, more to even out the colour than anything else as it did wear off a little after lunch. In saying that, it still held much better than I though it would so I didn’t mind.

Another thing I really like about this is the coverage it gives to the lips; when I first applied it I thought it might be a bit sheer but it actually dries in to give a fuller coverage than you’d expect.

I’ve really come to like these lipsticks and will definitely be wearing this shade again – I think it will be particularly nice in Spring too.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 297 | Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick in Shade 51, Muse Red

Okay, I don’t know where this shade has been hiding for the past ten months, but I’m so glad I discovered it because I love it! It is a gorgeous warm toned, orange red shade which I’m sure many of you know, is my favourite kind of red and I just loved wearing it.

I was very surprised by how much I liked the shade because looking at it initially, it looked more like a cherry or cool toned red. But when I applied it, it looked totally different, much to my excitement!

The formula of these lipsticks is creamy with gorgeous pigment and excellent colour pay off, giving a full coverage colour to the lips. It blends easily, and though it didn’t necessarily moisturise my lips, it did give them a nice smooth feeling throughout the day.

Another thing I liked about it is the staying power which for a creamy satin finish, was much better that I expected it to be. I remembered the lasting power being good in previous shades I’ve tried from this range, so I was happy to find it was the same with this.

I’ve always been a big fan of Rimmel lipsticks; of course there have been some I don’t like, but overall they are very nice to wear and this shade in particular is just gorgeous so it gets top marks from me today!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 296 | Maybelline Baby Lips Colour Balm Crayon in Shade 005, Candy Red

If you’ve been a regular reader of my challenge, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of these colour balm crayons from Maybelline and have really liked all the shades I’ve tried so far.

Today’s shade is a rich red shade, and although it’s a balm, it has the pigment of any good red lipstick but with all the moisturising qualities of a really good lip balm. And that’s the main reason why I just love these so much!

The formula is thick when you apply it but very blendable, and because you get such a good colour pay off, you really don’t need to apply much at all. It gives the same dramatic pop as some of my favourite red lippies, and though the shade itself maybe just slightly cool-toned for me, I really was so impressed by it.

The fact that it’s a lip crayon makes it very easy to just apply and go, and it kept my lips feeling soft and hydrated all day. It’s quite a bold shade so I don’t think it will be to everyone’s taste, but I do love a bold lip every now and then.

As it’s a balm, it does have a slightly sheer finish so don’t be expecting a completely opaque coverage. But if you’re looking for an alternative to a normal lipstick, then this is a great option.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 295 | Wet n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stain in Shade E128, Pinky Promise

I’ve tried quite a few of these balm stain lip crayons from Wet n Wild over the duration of my challenge, and most of them I have quite liked. The last shade I tried, See If I Carrot, however disappointed me a little, and I’m kind of feeling the same way about today’s shade.

Firstly, I do have to say that as budget lip crayons go, these have a nice formula. They are quite creamy and glide on to the lips easily – part of the reason why I’m such a big fan of lip crayons in general.

Where it falls down a little for me though with today’s shade is on pigment. I’ve tried some shades in this range that have had excellent pigment like Rico Mauve for example which I loved, but this shade was just a little too frosty and not enough opaque for me.

I hugely dislike frosty finish lipsticks so really I should have guessed when I first looked at it that it might not be for me, but as you all know, I like to give everything a chance. Sadly it was not meant to be today.

The formula of this crayon has a shimmer element to it, and sometimes that can look great on, leaving more of a metallic finish that pops. However, for me, this one just looked like an old school frosty pink lip and I couldn’t bring myself to really like it at all.

I also noticed it didn’t have the same stain element that some of the other shades have, which given the name, was a bit disappointing also.

As the saying goes; you win some, you lose some, and unfortunately today, this was a losing one I’m afraid.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 294 | Kiko Smart Fusion Lipstick in Shade 415, Raspberry

I first tried one of these smart fusion lipsticks from Kiko a few weeks back, and I really loved the moisturising, creamy feel that it gave to my lips. The colour pay off and formula was very nice, so today I decided to try a second shade from the range in a rich raspberry colour.

Though the name of this shade is Raspberry, when I first opened it, it looked very much like a cherry or deep red shade so I was a little dubious. However, as soon I applied it, the raspberrry shade came through and I really loved the colour pay off I got with it.

The formula is very creamy like I mentioned above, and it has a gorgeous vanilla scent that made me like it even more. The creaminess meant it was very easy to apply and blend, and a little goes a long way too.

For such a creamy lipstick, it does have a slight sheer finish, and is probably best described as a satin finish more than anything else. Because of its shine element, I didn’t think the staying power would be amazing, but it actually was pretty good considering.

As pink shades go, raspberry is definitely my favourite pink, and I really liked how this one looked on. For me, Kiko is one of the better budget brands, and these lipsticks are just further proof of that. It’s just a shame there are no Kiko shops here in Ireland!

Have you tried any Kiko products?
