Simply Lippy Challenge Day 364 | Tom Ford Ultra-Rich Lip Color in Shade 24, Emma

As my lipstick challenge draws to a close, of course I had to leave a very special lipstick for the penultimate day. While you’ll have to wait just one more day to see what my final choice is, today’s lippy might just be my favourite of all the Tom Ford lipsticks I’ve tried to-date.

This lipstick is from the Ultra-Rich lip colour range and is possibly one of the creamiest formulas I’ve ever come across in a lippy. It is rich in texture, thick without being too thick, and has the most luxurious feel, more-so than most other lipsticks I’ve tried this year.

Aside from the fab formula, the shade is a gorgeous raspberry pink; my perfect kind of berry shade, with incredible pigment and great colour pay off. Initially from looking at it, I thought it would be more red than berry, but was so happy to discover the raspberry tone once I applied it.

The creamy formula makes it very easy to apply and blend, and it layers up to give a rich, deep colour that I just love. As with all Tom Ford lipsticks however, you really don’t need to apply much at all because the pigment is so good.

You may recall in some of my Tom Ford posts, I’ve questioned whether or not they are really worth the hefty €49 price tag. They are gorgeous of course, and I’ve been lucky enough to get mine as gifts from my family, but €49 is a lot to spend on a lipstick unless you absolutely adore it.

However, after wearing this shade today, I think I can safely say I will happily spend €49 on this shade again – I love it that much! Plus, I’m feeling very under the weather with the flu and this was exactly what I needed to cheer myself up today!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; never underestimate the power of a great lipstick to make you feel amazing!

Have you splurged on a Tom Ford lippy yet?! If so, I’d love to hear all about it.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 363 | Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick in Shade 40, Berry Boost

Maybelline do some great lipsticks, especially liquid mattes, so when I saw this bright berry shade in the shop the other day, I of course bought it to try it out.

It’s no secret by now that I love a berry lipstick shade, and while this is more pink than anything else, it still has a lovely rich tone to it that was just deep enough for me to like.

The matte formula is very smooth and though it’s wet when you first apply it, it dries in very matte and doesn’t budge once on. The pigment is bold and strong with great colour pay off, and leaves a full coverage, opaque finish on the lips.

Sometimes with mattes your lips can get very dry, especially mine, but I was quite surprised to find that this didn’t dry them out too much at all. It wasn’t hydrating, but I didn’t need to worry about applying balm over it during the day which is always a good sign.

The texture is smooth which makes it easy to blend and apply, and the thin brush head allows for quick application too. Because of the thin tip, you can line the lips easily then fill the colour in with just a light layer.

Although it was slightly more pink than I had expected, I really liked wearing the shade and think it will be a fab shade for summer too. It certainly helped to lift my tired looking face today anyway, and god knows, I need all the help I can get with that right now!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 362 | Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Shade 200, Latino

Over the course of my challenge, I’ve tried one other lipstick from Rimmel’s moisture renew range and though it had a sheer finish, I was pleasantly surprised by the formula. I didn’t love it but it wasn’t bad, and as a result I decided to try one more shade from the range before my challenge finishes up.

Unlike the last shade I tried Pink Rules, this shade didn’t have a very sheer finish, but what it did have was a kind of frosted look to it which I’m not a big fan of as I’m sure most of you know by now.

This frosted feel to this reminds me of bad lipsticks from my teenage years that I’d really rather forget than revisit! The pigment is nice, but the pink tone isn’t really my thing either so overall, I wasn’t loving this today.

The formula itself is very creamy and moisturising which lives up to the claims its title suggests. It feels hydrating to wear and the texture is nice and smooth too.

The coverage is medium and the colour pay off is good too, so there are some positives to this in terms of formula. For me however, I just couldn’t get passed the colour and finish, so I don’t think I’ll be wearing it again.

How do you feel about frosted finish lipsticks? They can look great on, but just aren’t for me.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 361 | YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain Lipstick in Shade 22, Neon Coral

You all know by now how much I love both a YSL lip and a coral lip, so it’s fair to say that today’s lipstick is a match made in heaven. I’ve wanted to try out the YSL Tatouage Couture range since it was released back in September, and now that I’ve finally had the chance, I’m not disappointed.

YSL make the most incredible lipsticks; some of my all time favourites are from YSL and I adore every single one of them so needless to say, I wasn’t surprised to find that I loved this today too.

Unlike their other lipsticks that I’ve tried, this lippy is a matte stain in the very truest sense of the word. It applies very similarly to their vinyl liquid lip cream, and has the same creamy texture, only once dried in, gives the full effect of a matte lip.

As mentioned, the formula is very creamy with the same delicious scent that all YSL lippies have. The pigment is strong and flawless, and the colour pay off is excellent too.

The matte finish does make it a little less hydrating than other YSL lipsticks but that’s to be expected from a lip stain. I did find myself preferring the moisturising element that you get from the vinyl lip creams or regular lipsticks, but I still loved the colour and finish nonetheless.

The colour itself is a salmon coral rather than an orange coral, but I loved it as I’m sure you’ve already guessed! And, what’s more, it’s a perfect day-to-night shade for any time of year.

We were out tonight for a friend’s 40th birthday celebration and I loved how this worked equally as well on out and about during the day, as well as for a night out on the tiles tonight. What’s more, the stain element means the staying power is excellent so I didn’t need to worry about reapplying it during the evening.

Of course as with any brand, there are some lipsticks I prefer more than others, but this one is definitely going up there with my current YSL favourites. It’s smooth, creamy and gorgeously luxurious – I literally didn’t want to take it off!

Have you ever tried a YSL lipstick?

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 360 | Sleek Lip VIP Semi-Matte Lipstick in Shade 1002, Private Booth

Throughout the year, I’ve tried two lipsticks from Sleek’s Lip VIP collection, Backstage and Show Off, both of which I really liked. Their formula is very creamy, almost balm like but a lot richer, and as we were having a cosy movie day and not moving very far from the couch, it was the perfect choice.

One of the things I really love about these lipsticks, is the fact that they require little or no maintenance at all. The rich creamy texture makes them very easy to apply, and they leave your lips feeling soft and smooth from the minute you apply.

Initially from looking at the lipstick in the bullet, I thought it would be a lot paler than it actually is. I wanted something very neutral and this shade has the perfect balance for a relaxed makeup day. It is neutral while still having a lovely caramel tone and I loved the warmness of it too.

Sleek is definitely one of the better budget brands that I’ve tried this year, and I’ve always been very impressed with the pigment in their lippies. Though shades like this wouldn’t usually be my preference, I really loved the wearability of this today.

It’s not unlike Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk in tone, just not quite as pink, and it’s definitely a great option for a relaxed makeup day.

As the light wasn’t great today, I took images both with and without the flash to give you a true idea of what it looked like on. I don’t know about you, but to me, it was the perfect accompaniment for a cosy day on the couch!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 359 | Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Color in Shade 25, Russian Doll

Bobbi Brown is a brand that I always say I must try more of, but for some reason, I never get around to it. So, you can imagine my excitement when my gorgeous sister-in-law bought it for me for Christmas.

From the luxe lip color range which I’d never tried before now, the finish is what I would describe as a satin cream as it has a glossy element to it whilst also giving a medium coverage.

The texture is rich and creamy as expected, with an amazingly bold pigment and excellent colour pay off. You won’t need to apply much of this at all because a little goes a long way, and it will keep your lips feeling hydrated and smooth all day.

The shade itself is a raspberry red shade and the minute I applied it, I knew it was my kind of lippy. It is that gorgeous tone of berry that I just adore, especially at this time of year, and it wears very well throughout the day.

Though it has a slightly gloss finish, it stated in place must better than I initially thought it would, particularly as I was out walking in the wind and rain today.

It feels so nice and soft to wear, so much so, it has convinced me to try out more lipsticks from Bobbi Brown as soon as possible! God knows after this year, I’ll never need another lipstick that’s for sure, but I won’t let a little detail like that get in the way now – don’t you worry!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 358 | Tom Ford Sheer Lip Color in Shade 23, Leigh

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had the most incredible day spent with family and loved ones. We had a very special day with our families, enjoying what is going to be our last Christmas as just us two before bump arrives.

Obviously, a day as special as today calls for a very special lipstick, and because of that I’ve turned to my old friend Tom Ford for some Christmas cheer.

Today’s shade, Leigh, is a Christmas present from my mum, and I’m absolutely in love with the salmon coral shade. The finish is sheer so it’s different to other Tom Ford lippies I’ve tried up to now, but it’s still as gorgeous nonetheless.

Though it’s described as sheer, it isn’t too sheer at all in my opinion, and still gives a lovely medium to full coverage to the lips. The pigment is gorgeous as with all Tom Ford lipsticks, and the colour pay off is equally as good too.

The texture is creamy and very moisturising, it feels very luxurious to wear, and the staying power is very good for a sheer finish. The minute you apply this you can feel your lips becoming softer which was well needed today, and though my lips are a little dry, it didn’t effect the application at all.

Though I’d usually opt for a shade like this in spring or summer, I just loved wearing it today and it matched my Christmas dress perfectly too. It’s definitely one of my favourites of the year!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 357 | Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Shade, Stoned Rose

Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks are such a joy to wear and I’ve become a huge fan over the past number of years. I’ve tried several lipsticks from all her ranges, and though most of the ones I love are mattes, one of my all time favourites is a shade called Night Crimson from the K.I.S.S.I.N.G Collection which I wore very early on in my challenge.

For today’s lipstick choice, because it’s been quite a while since I wore a lippy from this collection, I decided to try out a new shade called Stoned Rose, which due to the name, I assumed would have pink rose tone.

The shade however is more like a muted coral caramel shade, more caramel than anything else, and I would have liked it to be slightly warmer on. It definitely looks richer in the bullet than on my lips, but having said that, I quite liked the shade for something different.

The finish of this is satin, with a lovely creamy texture to it that is very moisturising to wear. It doesn’t have quite the same richness that her matte lipsticks have, yet it is very smooth and makes your lips feel soft all day.

You do get hydration from wearing it meaning your lips won’t feel dehydrated, even if they are feeling a little dry, and the smooth texture makes it very easy to both apply and blend.

To me, it’s definitely not a rose shade as the name would suggest, but it’s a great all-rounder option that would work well with all skin tones.

What do you think? Are you a Charlotte Tilbury fan?

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 356 | Ted Baker Tinted Lip Balm in Shade, Red

Today’s lippy is part of a Ted Baker lips and tips duo set that I got from a gorgeous friend of mine for Christmas. I’ve never tried any Ted Baker makeup before today, and didn’t quite know what to expect.

I’ve always liked the look of the rose gold packaging which is very similar to Charlotte Tilbury. Apart from the pretty packaging however, I’ve been very impressed with this given that I didn’t have any real expectation.

The pigment is rich and bold, and the shade itself though red, has a tint of raspberry to it. And I do love a raspberry lip! The colour pay off is very good and it gives the lips a nice coverage with a slightly sheer finish.

Like the name suggests, this is more of a balm than a lipstick. It doesn’t have the creaminess that a rich lipstick has, but it is moisturising nonetheless and has a lovely smooth texture which feels nice to wear.

The lasting power is good, not amazing because of the balm like element, but it lasts pretty well nonetheless. I did have to reapply after eating and drinking, but I didn’t mind because of how nice it feels on.

Overall, I love both the shade and pigment and was very impressed by how well this wire during the day. Plus, I do love a nice red lip at this time of year!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 355 | Penneys PS… Super Matte Liquid Lipstick in Shade 02, Blush

After all the bronze tones I’ve worn over the past few days, I’ve been craving a bright, non-metallic lip, and today’s choice from Penneys was exactly that.

I’m not going to get into how impressed I’ve been with Penneys’ lipsticks this year; my regular readers will already know that I’m a big fan. However, I think today’s lipstick choice might just be one of my favourite shades of the year.

I love a coral lip, and the salmon coral tone of this lipstick is to die for. This is the kind of shade I would adore during the summer, especially if away on holidays. I just love a lippy that makes me feel summery!

The pigment as you can see, is bold and rich; it gives a full coverage finish to the lips and you get an amazing colour pay off from the second you apply it.

The formula is wet as most liquid mattes initially are, but it dries in quickly to leave a very dry, super matte finish that doesn’t budge off the lips. Believe me, the staying power with this is brilliant!

On the downside, because of the very good staying power, my lips did feel a bit dry towards the later part of the day, so I would recommend having a lip balm handy in case you suffer from dry lips like me.

Having said that, I liked the shade so much that the dryness won’t stop me wearing it again! I really loved it and can’t wait for Spring to arrive so I can wear it again.
