Simply Lippy Challenge Day 224 | NYX Velvet Matte Lipstick in Shade VMLS12, Charmed

I have tried several NYX lipsticks over the course of the last few months, some which I really like, but until today I hadn’t tried any of the velvet matte range.

So when my Mum picked me up a few shades over the weekend as a surprise, I was very excited to find that they were from the velvet matte collection which I have been wanting to try out for a while.

I kind of feel bad for any lipstick following my two days of high-end luxury in my birthday Tom Ford and Chanel lipsticks; I feel it’s a little unfair to judge anything against them really because they are just so fabulous.

However, this little NYX offering really held its own against them in terms of pigment. The shade is like a burnt or rich caramel, and I love tones like this coming into Autumn.

The formula is matte but not super matte, as it does have a slight creaminess to it, especially on the finish. I wouldn’t say that it felt very moisturising, you do have to apply a layer or two to blend it properly. Having said that however, it was in no way drying and had a lovely velvet feel to it on application as the name suggests.

I liked this, and I do think I will wear it again, especially for the shade. I’m just not sure that I like it as their Butter lipstick which has a gorgeous creaminess to it.

Overall I’m a big fan of NYX as a brand and I don’t think you can go too far wrong with their lip products. I have a few more shades to try out from the range, so I’ll be interested to see if I like it any more when I put those to the test.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 223 | Chanel Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Shade 152, Insaisissable

If you caught yesterday’s Tom Ford post, you will know that it’s my birthday weekend, yay! And for me, the best way to celebrate is by wearing some seriously luxurious high-end lipsticks.

Yesterday for my actual birthday, I tried out my first Tom Ford lipstick, and today, I got to try out my first Chanel one. Because you know, why not?!

Because of the weekend that was in it, I decided to treat myself to something very special in this Chanel lippy, and the colour I chose I’m sure will be no surprise to my long term followers – a gorgeous pink toned coral that I just adore.

Coral shades are my favourite, especially for Summer, and this lipstick quite honestly, has everything you could want and more. The pigment is divine, and the formula is creamy and blendable, with a gorgeous satin finish to give your lips a lovely sheen glow.

The colour pay off is excellent and it just feels so smooth on your lips, almost balm like but with all the richness of the perfect lipstick. It is full coverage which I love, and the lasting power is perfect as satin finish lipsticks go.

I have fallen totally and utterly in love with this, and I think it may be one of the most perfect lipsticks I have ever tried or worn! What’s more, at €35 it is cheaper than my Tom Ford offering yesterday and I think I might love it even more than I did that!

Of course a lipstick like this is a complete luxury purchase, so I won’t be able to buy these all the time. However, I am so excited to be able to wear this again once my challenge is over.

I don’t often say that you should go out and buy something, but my god if you do have a hankering to splurge on something luxurious and you like a satin lip, then this lipstick is the perfect purchase.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 222 | Tom Ford Lip Colour in Shade 15, Wild Ginger

It’s my birthday! Of course this year, I had to have some lipsticks on my birthday list and what better lipstick to get than one from Tom Ford.

I have wanted to try a Tom Ford lippy for so long now, but at €48, I just couldn’t justify spending the money when there are so many other lipsticks on my wish list too.

But, thankfully for me, my lovely hubby treated me to some for my birthday and the first shade I’m trying today, Wild Ginger, is exactly my kind of lipstick shade.

Wild Ginger is an orange toned red, and has the most gorgeous creamy finish, not dissimilar to MAC’s cremesheen, although I must admit, it does feel a little more luxurious to wear (that could just be a mental thing though because of its spendy price point!).

The pigment is rich with a full coverage formula that gives a gorgeous pop of colour to the lips and lasts very well throughout the day. I did find I had to reapply after I ate or drank, mostly because the finish has a slight gloss to it, but other than that it stayed in place pretty well.

During the day I was in work then out with friends, and tonight I went for a lovely birthday dinner with the hubby, and I just loved how versatile this lipstick is for both day and night.

I paired it with a casual blue jumper for my day time antics, then matched it with a coral top for dinner, both of which I think brought out the colour even more.

First impressions are very good which makes me very happy as I had high expectations. I’m still wondering if they are worth the €48 price tag though and I think it will take a few more wears to make the decision.

Luckily however, I now have some more shades to try because not only did my hubby buy me some, but my lovely Mum did too! What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a little Tom Ford luxury, eh?!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 221 | Catrice Lip Cushion in Shade 060, What Happens After Midnight…

A few months back, you may remember that Catrice launched these cushion lip glosses which I was very excited about at the time. I tried out a few shades in the collection, and liked some more than others, mostly because the pigment was quite weak in some of the paler shades.

I’ve had this shade sitting in my lippy drawer for a while now waiting to be used, and decided today was the day to give it a whirl. And I am so glad I did because I really like it!

After being a bit undecided about the pigment in these, I wasn’t expecting much but when I applied it to my lips I was very pleasantly surprised. The pigment is amazing! I don’t know if it’s because of it being a darker shade or not, but the colour really pops on your lips and I love the rich berry tone of the shade too.

The finish is gloss so this isn’t a full coverage lippy, but I don’t mind a gloss every once in a while, especially when the pigment is a nice as this, and I also like the creamy/vinyl feel it gives your lips when you apply it.

As it is a gloss, naturally the staying power isn’t as good as a cream or matte finish, but it’s not bad either and I do like that it isn’t sticky – because like most people, I really don’t like a sticky gloss!

I am a really big fan of Catrice in general, their products are such good quality particularly given their budget price point, and I think this will be one lippy that I’ll definitely wear again.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 220 | theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long Lasting Lipstick in Shade Brilliant

It’s no secret by now that I’m a big fan of theBalm liquid lipsticks – I love everything about them from the pigment, to the finish, to the peppermint tingle they give your lips and until last week, I hadn’t worn one for ages.

I bought my first set of minis back in January and loved every shade in the range, so when I spotted a new mini set with different shades a few weeks ago, I obviously had to buy it and try out the other shades.

Today’s shade, Brilliant, is a gorgeous rich pink red shade which has amazing colour pay off as you would expect from theBalm – they are just so good at pigment in all their products, and I love the colour pay off you get from just one layer.

The forumla is creamy on application with a gorgeous peppermint tingle, and though the finish is quite matte, I don’t find it drying at all. I have read some reviews that do find them a little drying, but in my experience they aren’t at all, and I have become a big fan over the past few months.

These sets are great for the purposes of my challenge as I get to try six shades for about €4.50 each – so although they are small, they are very good value in that respect, However, if all the shades weren’t up your street, they are also available in full size and can be bought individually.

I don’t think a matte liquid lip is everyone’s thing, but if you like this kind of look then these lippies are definitely worth a try!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 219 | Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Shade 700, Be My Baby

If you’re a lippy lover like me, I’m sure by now you’ve heard about Rimmel’s new Stay Matte range which they launched a few weeks back. Last week, I tried out my first shade from the collection in shade, Blush, and today I’m trying out my second shade, Be My Baby.

Liquid lipsticks are everywhere right now, and while I do tend to prefer stick lipsticks, I’ve started to come around to liquid lipsticks of late. Plus, these are a pretty good option if you’re looking for something budget friendly.

The pigment, as with most Rimmel lippies, is gorgeous, and this shade has a good colour pay off which I’m a fan of too. It is quite wet when you first apply it so you think it’s going to be slightly creamy, but then it dries in to leave a very matte finish.

First time around, I found it became a little too dry and my lips did start to feel dehydrated as the day went on, but I didn’t notice this as much with today’s shade so maybe my lips were a little dryer last time.

While I like this lippy, I don’t love the shade, and that was the same last week too. There’s nothing wrong with it as such, I just feel like it’s a bit ‘meh’ and think I would way prefer the formula in a richer or bolder shade.

So before I fully make up my mind on these, I’m going to have to try one of those shades to see if they ‘wow’ me any more than this one.

Have any of you tried these yet? I have seen the swatches of the bolder shades online and they look amazing, so I’m hoping once I try those, I’ll be sold!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 218 | Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Shade La Femme

As some of you may know, a few weeks ago I tried out my first Kat Von D lipstick and I fell in love with it, so I was very excited to try out my second lipstick from her collection today.

A few months back, I was very kindly sent a voucher from the lovely ladies in Debenhams Ireland to spend on beauty and the minute I got it, I knew exactly what I wanted to buy – a Kat Von D lippy!

I opted for this gorgeous coral pink shade, La Femme, from the Studded Kiss collection and apart from being totally obsessed with the packaging, I am in love with both the formula and colour too.

You all know I love a coral lip, and this shade is just divine. It is full coverage with great colour pay off, and the pigment is incredible. I expected the pigment to be good after I was so impressed with her liquid lipstick, and I really wasn’t disappointed.

The finish is matte which again I love, but it has just enough creaminess to leave a lovely velvet finish on your lips and is actually quite moisturising too which was a nice surprise.

I’ve heard nothing but good reports about Kat Von D lipsticks over the past while, and I can really see why after trying this out today.

It is long lasting, easy to apply, super smooth to wear, and looks gorgeous too.I will definitely be buying another one of these babies again soon!
