My Top Ten: Summer Sales

If you’re like me then you’ll love picking up a bargain or two in the Summer sales. I find it so hard to resist having a nosey around the shops at this time of year, especially when I want to invest in a few statement items. However, I’m really not one for trawling through sales racks so once the sales start, it’s online shopping time for me.

I love a good sale for picking up some staple wardrobe items, or a few statement or designer pieces that might otherwise have been out of my price range. If you get in early enough, there are some real gems to be found. For example, I recently bought a pair of Prada white leather trainers that were reduced by 50% in Brown Thomas, and while I normally wouldn’t have paid that kind of money for a pair of trainers, the half price tag meant I didn’t have to think twice!

A good bargain literally fills me with glee and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one this happens to. So in the interest of spreading some bargain buy love, I’ve picked out my Top Ten Picks from this year’s summer sales to share with you all. What’s even better? You can buy them all online!

Self-Portrait Yellow Azaelea Dress from Brown Thomas, Was €330, Now €150
Salsa Denim Secret Slim Jeans from Brown Thomas, Were €100, now €35

Book Review: Me Before You

Last week I just finished reading the much hyped about novel of the moment, Me Before You by Jo Jo Moyes. Other than knowing it has been made into a movie and has received great reviews, I didn’t know anything about it, nor was I familiar with its author. But over the last while I’ve heard so many people talking about how good it is, that I just had to buy it and find out for myself.

I’m always on the look out for new books, and currently have about four on the go. This always seems to happen to me! Some I go in and out of depending on the genre, then there are others that the minute I pick up, I struggle to put down again. And Me Before You was one of those books.

Without giving too much away as I don’t want to spoil it for those of you who haven’t read it, what I will say is if you do decide to read it then be prepared for tears. Lots of tears. It is a wonderful, uplifting, heart breaking story that has you entwined into the characters lives from the first words on the page.

The story is so real, so unexpected, and it evokes every inch of hope possible in the reader. Well in me anyway. This is the kind of book where you want to shout at the pages to influence the storyline, you want to shake Will so hard to make him hear, you want to be there with Lou planning trips, you feel like you are part of every thought and every decision whether fun or sad.

It’s been quite a while since a book has made me laugh, in a full on belly-laughing way, or cried so hard that I couldn’t stop the tears. It is relatable, it is funny, it is heart wrenching, but more than anything else, it is a brilliant read. It is the kind of book you want to curl up on the sofa with, wearing your pyjamas, accompanied by a big box of tissues and an even bigger glass of wine.

The kind of book that you wish you hadn’t already read so you could read it all over again.

Have you read this book? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s cry some snotty tears together and discuss!

Absolutely Fabulous Dahling!

Last night I went to the Dublin Premier of the new Absolutely Fabulous movie hosted by Irish beauty and fashion magazine, Image. Image events are always so much fun so I knew it was going to be a great night and when I found out I had tickets, I decided to take my Mum along for the ultimate girly night out!

On arrival we were greeted by the most fabulous watermelon vodka cocktails, pink of course, and the room was decorated in what can only be described as Ab Fab! Patsy and Eddie face masks, feather boas, glasses, hats and props galore, a manicure and blow dry station, as well as a host of delicious treats. What more could you want for a girls night?!

I have always been a fan of Ab Fab, for years I watched the series giggling away at Patsy and Eddie’s adventures, and the movie was no different. It’s about parties, it’s about adventures, it’s about champagne, but above all it’s about friendship. And that wonderful connection that us girls have, that only us girls can understand.

We’ve all had those moments with our girl friends – got too drunk at a party, made a show of ourselves, danced until the early hours, wore crazy outfits, drank too much bubbly, laughed until we cried, done something stupid… I’m pretty sure we’ve all been there at one point or another. But what always gets us through? Our best friends of course!

They understand you like nobody else, they get your weirdness and love you for it still, you do anything for each other, even if it means embarrassing yourself in the process, you’re their right arm and they are yours. And that’s what makes this movie so fun, we’ve all been there! Maybe not as dramatically as Patsy and Eddie, but on one level or another.

If you’re a fan of Ab Fab you’ll really love this. It’s by no means an Oscar winning movie, of course it’s not, but it’s not meant to be either. It’s a bit silly, it’s a bit ridiculous, but that’s what what you expect it to be.

All in all, it was a perfect girly night out, with lots of giggles and great goody bags thrown into the mix so big thanks to Image for having us.

Cheers dahhling…drink up sweetie!

Rome In Oufits

So those of you who’ve read any of my travel posts on our trip to Rome last week, will already know how much I loved it. It’s definitely become one of my favourite places and I’m already excited for the day that I can return, whenever that may be.

I love a good city break and usually tend to do city breaks in the Autumn or Spring so that the weather isn’t too hot and uncomfortable for sightseeing in the midday heat. But this time we decided to shake things up a bit, and booked our trip to Rome for Summer.

For those of you who don’t know, Rome in summer is scorching hot. We arrived to 29 degree heat and it was just gorgeous. Don’t you just love that feeling of heat on your face as you look up to the sky when you’re away somewhere warm?! I do. But with hot, sunny days also comes the obstacle of what outfits to wear that can allow you be tourists without sweating ridiculously and losing any sense of style you might otherwise have had.

Now while I’m not the world’s most stylish fashionista, I love clothes, I love shoes and I love accessories, like most girls do. I know what I like, I think I have fairly okay taste, and I’m a sucker for a mix of high street and designer pieces that can lift an outfit to another level. But let’s be real here, I’m no Kate Moss!

But getting back to Rome… I wanted to make sure I could do everything I wanted to do in the heat, while keeping a little bit of style in the mix too so I deliberated long and hard about what to bring with me to wear. I planned each outfit meticulously, and I’m happy to say although it was roasting, I think my outfits worked out pretty well…

Day to night look – This look was the perfect day to night outfit for a big city like Rome where you spend the day sightseeing but stop off in cafes along the way for a glass of wine and bite to eat. In the evenings it got a bit chilly so my trusty denim shirt was the perfect accompaniment to this maxi dress.

Dress: ZARA, Shirt: H&M Denim Shirt, Bag: DVF Mini, Shoes: ALDO

Ancient Adventures – I got this dress last Summer and it’s just so comfortable to wear. It’s cotton and very lightweight so was just what I needed for a day wandering around the Colosseum and Roman Forum in 28 degree heat.

Dress: H&M, Bag: DVF, Shoes: ALDO

Strapless Sundays – The Sunday of our trip was the hottest by far, the sun was splitting the stones and it was a roasting 30 degrees. To avoid getting tan lines I opted for this old strapless black top and paired it with these super baggy, printed hareem pants.

Top: H&M, Trousers: M&S Printed Hareem Pants, Bag: DVF, Shoes: ALDO

Dinner Date – I opted for casual dinner outfits, I would usually dress up more and at least put on a pair of heels when going out for dinner on holiday, but as you walk everywhere in Rome I decided to go for comfort over height! I got this stripy skirt in New York a few years ago and it’s become one of my favourite travel accessories. It’s so easy to wear and works both dressed up and dressed down.

Top: H&M, Skirt: Cotton On

Maxi Monday – For our last day I opted for this cute maxi skirt which some of you may have seen me wear in Ibiza. For this look, I paired it with a casual t-shirt, making it very lightweight and perfect for wandering the beautiful cobble streets while slurping a gelato!

Top: ZARA Basic Tee, Skirt: Penneys (Primark)

Gladiators in the home of the Gladiators – I don’t think any Summer trip to Rome would be complete without a pair of Gladiator sandals. The one thing I definitely recommend for sightseeing in the heat is to wear very light, but comfortable shoes. On the first day I wore leather runners and it was so warm that I ended up getting blisters on my feet. So for the rest of the trip it was sandals all the way.

Shoes: ZARA Silver Gladiators

If you’re going off adventuring anywhere warm this summer and you won’t be spending your time lying by a beach or pool, then maybe these outfits will give you a little inspiration on what to wear for your adventures…

My next trip away for our Year of the Holiday is to Spain with some of our close friends next month. So I better go start planning those outfits now!

Flat Sandals: My Top Picks For Summer

Summer is the time for pedicures, colourful toes and of course, fabulous sandals. I don’t know about you, but when summer and warmer weather comes, I love the freedom of wearing pretty sandals and not having to keep my feet covered all the time.

As many of you know, I’m just back from Ibiza and whilst holiday shopping over the past month or two, have noticed so many great sandals styles in the shops. From Gladiator, to T-Bar, to Rope-Tie, the options are endless.

Unfortunately I cant afford to buy them all myself, so instead I decided to put together a list of my favourites so that maybe one of my lovely readers can buy them instead!

Steve Madden Junyaa Gladiator Sandals
ALDO NINNA Tie Sandals

Michael Kors Holly Sandals

Isabel Marant Alisa Sandals

Vince Camuto Adalson Sandals

Chloe Flat Button Sandals

ZARA Pom Pom Sandals
Accessorize Cleo Chain Sandals

Just looking at them I want to buy them all… If only! But unfortunately I’ll have to abstain for now. I might treat myself to a pair later in the summer but for the time being I will just have to admire the gorgeousness from afar.

Ibiza Fridaygram

Happy Friday from sunny Ibiza! I hope it’s a lovely sunny day wherever you are too, and if not, then at least the weekend is almost upon us!

With all the gorgeous weather we’ve been having, I’ve been snap happy on my phone and camera over the past two weeks since I last shared a Fridaygram post with you all. I’ve revisited my favourite place in the world, Ballymaloe House (which is also where Dave and I got married), I’ve been out for some lovely meals, have been running in the sunshine, and now, am in Ibiza.

So if you’ve missed out on my Instagram photos, or if you’re not yet following me over there, then here’s a look at all the pretty pictures I’ve been sharing…

It’s amazing how much better your photos look with a bit of sunshine. Whilst one or two of these pictures have been borrowed from Pinterest, they all give the same message – it’s summer!

Hope you all have a fabulous Friday.

My Holiday Beauty & Accessory Essentials

Well holiday day has finally arrived, yay! As you’ll know if you’ve been reading my recent posts, I’ve been planning for this trip for quite a while now between trying to be healthy and losing some weight, to planning each outfit meticulously in order to be party ready.I’ve never been to Ibiza before and have heard so many great things about the old town where we are staying, not to mention some of the incredible sunsets I’ve seen pictures of on Instagram. I’m pretty sure every evening we’ll be found in one sunset bar or another sipping cocktails while watching the sun go down.

When I get home from my trip next week I’ll share some of my outfit and makeup looks with you, but for this post I thought I’d share some of my beauty and accessory must haves for my holidays and what I’m bringing with me:

PARASOL SPF Sun Lotion – Obviously the most important thing when going away to somewhere hot is having good UV protection.  I use Parasol Sun Care and have done for several years now. It’s an Irish brand so apart from supporting Irish, it’s the best sun lotion I’ve used. What’s more, you only need to apply it once a day, what more could you want?!

For my face I usually use a brand called Heliocare as it’s the best I’ve come across for face protection. However, I’ve read a lot of good things about this La Roche-Posay Anthelios face cream so for this trip I decided to try it out. I’m using SPF 30 so I’ll keep you posted on what it’s like.

Apart from face protection, I always buy separate lip protection too as I have very sensitive lips that tend to burn easily. The one I use a lot is this SPF 30 Lip Protection balm from the Boots Soltan range. It has great lasting power (even if you are sweating in the heat!) and doesn’t taste bad on your lips either like some other lip SPFs that I’ve tried.

The Nivea Soothing Aftersun lotion is by far my favourite aftersun. It contains Aloe Vera, has a lovely creamy consistency and is super hydrating for the skin after a day lying in the sun.

I have thick, curly hair and because of that, my hair is prone to getting very dry in the heat. I came across this Heat Defense spray from TRESemmé last summer. I was surprised to find that it kept my hair nourished and shiny so needless to say it’s going in my wash bag again this year.

I’m a big fan of Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream, I think it’s safe to say most beauty lovers are. I always have it in my handbag, and it’s great on holiday to relieve any insect bites or sunburn.

To remove my makeup at night, I’m bringing the new Garner Express 2 in 1 Make Up Remover. I haven’t tried it before but have read good reviews, plus it’s mini size so it’s perfect for travelling. I’ll keep you posted on what I think of it.

As mentioned above, my lips can get very dry in the sun so I’m bringing my Elemis Lip Revive balm to keep my lips soft. I use Eight Hour Cream on my lips too, but as the Elemis balm is also mini size, it’s a handy one for the handbag in the evening!

My Dr. Obagi Oclipse Sunscreen & Primer is what I wear on my face everyday. I am so particular about my skincare routine and use all Dr. Obagi products which I may have mentioned before. This primer is SPF 30 and is also tinted so great for holidays when you don’t want to wear makeup during the day.

Lipstick, oh lipstick. My favourite! Many of you will already know that I’m obsessed with lipsticks, they are just my ‘thing’. In fact, on occasion I have been known to pick the lipstick colour before the outfit. Does anyone else do that?!

Anyway, I’ve packed three of my favourite lipsticks, MAC Lady Danger, MAC Love Goddess (from the Marilyn Monroe collection), and YSL Le Orange. I also got a new lipstick for my trip called Relentlessly Red from MAC’s Retro Matte lipstick collection. This shade is literally my dream, I honestly don’t know how I haven’t come across it before now but I’m very excited to try it out. Can you tell I love orange and coral shades by the way?!

Every trip to the sun requires a pair or two of cute sandals but if I’m being honest I’ve actually packed five pairs, not just the two in this photo. I’m only going for five days so I know, it’s ridiculous. I know. But I just couldn’t resist, you’ll never know when you might need them, right?!

These two pairs are from Penneys and New Look, and apart from being very inexpensive, they are very comfortable too.

I’m an accessories girl at heart and as mentioned before, the theme for this trip away is Boho Chic. I’m a sucker for statement neck and head pieces, and there are so many great accessories on trend for this summer. I’m particularly loving H&M’s Coachella collection which is where the neck piece and floral head bands are from.

DVF. Need I say more? My DVF cross body mini bags are life! Big enough to fit all your essentials, small enough to throw across your body and go. My black one comes pretty much everywhere with me, and my bright coral one is a must for any trip to the sun.

Lastly, I’m taking these amazing body tattoos which I picked up from the H&M Coachella collection also. The little stars are super cute and will be a great addition to my Boho theme. My sunglasses are from H&M and Penneys.

Before you say it, I know, I’m bringing quite a lot of stuff for a five day trip. And that’s not even half of it. I’ve always had a tendency to overpack and I’m sure this time is no different, eeek! But what the hell, better to be safe than sorry.

Ibiza here we come…

My Top 12 Summer Holiday Buys

I know I may have mentioned it once or twice already but, I’m off to Ibiza on Thursday, yippeee! As you can tell I’m very excited, mainly because I’ve never been to Ibiza before, but also because I can’t wait for a bit of sunshine and to spend a few days away with my siblings. It’s been forever since we’ve done something like this so I’m really looking forward to it.

Anyway, if you read my post on Boho Holiday Outfits last week, you’ll know that the theme for the weekend is Boho Chic. Why a theme I hear you ask?! Well one of my sisters is celebrating her birthday over there so we’ve got lots of great events and parties lined up which in turn means lots of great outfits have to be planned.

My outfits are slowly starting to come together, thankfully made easier by the fact that there are just such great things in the shops at the moment. From accessories, to sandals, to dresses, even to fab holiday makeup, I had to drag myself away from so many things I wanted to buy.

That’s not to say that I won’t buy them at some stage though, every girl needs a wish list in my opinion so here’s a look at what’s on my summer wish list, and my Top 12 Holiday Buys for this summer…

Rust Maxi Dress H&MDenim Jumpsuit H&M

Gold Gladiator Sandals River Island / Straw Bag H&M / Holly Sandals Michael Kors

Floral Print Jumpsuit ASOS / Printed Floral Midi ZARA

The Shore Bondi Rose Sunglasses SHEVOKE / Cosmetics Bag ASOS

Field of Dreams Sundress Seafolly / Tropical Trikini Swimsuit ZARA

So there you go, just some of the things I’m lusting after this holiday season. Now all I need is to get bikini ready so I can wear and buy them. While that’s not going to happen for my Ibiza trip given it’s only two days away, I’m keeping them on my list for a holiday coming up later in the year.

Also, if you’re a complete social media addict like me then you might be interested in this fab Ban.do back up phone charger I recently bought from one of my favourite online shops, Hippenings.com. It’s the perfect summer accessory if you plan on being snap-happy on holiday just like me!

Boho Holiday Inspiration & The Dreaded Bikini Body

This day next week I’m heading off to Ibiza for five days for my sisters birthday. I’ve never been to Ibiza before so naturally I’m very excited, and the fact that we’re going with my siblings, partners and friends makes it all the more exciting.

There will be lots of events going on over the weekend from sunset drinks to pool parties, to dancing the night away so I’ll need lots of nice outfits to wear but I’ve yet to decide on what they are going to be.

When I began my holiday shopping a few weeks back, summer maxi dresses, florals and Boho vibes greeted me in almost every store which was perfect as the theme for our party weekend is Boho Chic. The only problem is, I’m not exactly what you would call bikini ready. I’ve got a good bit of weight to lose, and although that’s the story of my life, I’m so tired of walking into my favourite shops and walking back out empty handed because nothing fits me properly.

I know I’m not the only one that struggles with my weight, it’s like a never-ending up hill battle, and if I’m honest, I’m dreading wearing scantly clad clothing and showing off my arms and legs. But I’m going to try put all of that to the back of my mind and embrace some of the boho vibes on trend for this summer.

As I’m not too sure where to start with my outfits, I’ve turned to Pinterest as I so often do, for some holiday inspiration. I’ve created a Boho mood board to help me decide what kind of looks I want to go with and this is what I’ve come up with…

Now I have the inspiration – if only I had their bodies too! 🙂
