50 Things That Make Me Happy (Part 6)

Most of you will know by now that every month I share a post on all the things making me happy. Sometimes we have bad days, sometimes we have great days, either way, it’s so important to not let the bad things get you down. For me, I’ve found that by practicing gratitude and listing all the things that make me happy, the few bad things pale in comparison and it makes me feel so much better.

It’s been a busy month since I shared my last 50 Things That Make Me Happy post. So much has been going on – I’ve been to some amazing events for Autumn product launches, I’ve been booking tours and started packing for my travels, but perhaps the most exciting thing of all is that today, my amazing sister is getting married! Eeek, excitement squeal!

We are back in my favourite place in the world, Ballymaloe House in Cork, where Dave and I got married last December and where my lovely sister is getting married today. It’s also the place where our other sister got married ten years ago so that will show you just how much we love it here.

Being with all my family in this place brings back so many amazing, special memories from my childhood and growing up, to all the family events we’ve celebrated here over the years. It really makes me extra grateful today for my wonderful family, hubby and all the great things I have in my life.

I’m also very grateful that I’ve had much of the Summer off work to focus on writing and growing my blog, and it’s really given me time to think about what actually makes me happy and what I want to do with the rest of my life. I’m not quite there yet but I think I’m going in the right direction anyway.

So here are the 50 things that are making me happy this month:

  • Wedding week
  • Product launches
  • Tea
  • Cosy jumpers
  • Candles
  • Book shopping
  • Laughing
  • Baking
  • Reconnecting with old friends
  • Obsessing over interiors on Pinterest

  • My new camera
  • Travel shopping
  • My new eyebrows
  • Hugs
  • Losing weight
  • Pretty flowers
  • Spring cleaning in September
  • Saturday nights on the couch
  • Taking trips down memory lane
  • Star prints

  • Writing
  • Gilmore Girls
  • Holiday packing
  • Meeting up with my fellow bloggers
  • Red wine
  • Slippers
  • Fresh autumn air
  • Getting dressed up for a night out
  • Spending time with those I love most in the world
  • Exploring new things

  • Having all my family together
  • Duvet days
  • Face masks
  • Pasta
  • Event planning
  • Walks in the park
  • Reading
  • Breakfasts with my parents
  • Hot Baths
  • Growing my social media following

  • Meditation
  • Travel research for our trip
  • Girly catch ups
  • Dark lip colors
  • Ballymaloe House
  • Making new memories
  • Daily holiday countdowns
  • Helpful people
  • Ankle boots
  • Being more mindful

If you’ve never sat down and written out all the things that make you happy, I really suggest giving it a try. There’s no better way to give yourself a good pick me up, especially if you’re not having the best of days.

Now I must run and go get beautified, bridesmaid duties call after all…

Happy Friday!

Sunday Silence

Every so often I share a Sunday Silence post, where I write about meditation, gratitude and mindfulness. Sundays are funny days, and I mean funny in the strange kind of way, they are usually quieter than the other bustling days of the week (for me anyway), and because of that, on Sundays I always try to take some time out to meditate and ponder a new week ahead.

I’ve suffered with varying degrees of anxiety for many years now and through the practice of meditation, gratitude and mindfulness, I have learned how to keep it at bay and not become so overwhelmed that I end up having a panic or anxiety attack. Well most of the time anyway. Many people are familiar with these words I’m sure, so many of us suffer from anxiety these days and I know I’m always looking for new ways to deal with it.

As I begin my meditation this evening and clear my mind for a new week ahead, I decided to share the Optimist’s Creed with you all. Many of you may be familiar with it, I came across it for the first time when I read the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I read this to myself every single day and it has helped me in more ways than I can say:

I hope you have some silence this Sunday, and I hope this helps to still your mind in the same way it has helped me.

Goodbye Week, Hello Weekend

This week was one of those weeks, you know the ones where no matter how positive you are, things keep going wrong? I find myself laughing today but it was a tough struggle to get to Friday let me tell you.

On Monday I had a rather dangerous encounter with a wasp of all things. It flew in my window as I was minding my own business driving along the road, and gave me the fright of my life. So much so, I had a complete freak out and had to try compose myself enough to pull over and get the damn thing out of my car. Now I laugh, but it’s really not a good thing to happy while you’re driving. God knows what could have happened.

Anyway, all’s well that ends well as the saying goes…
Just when I had started to recover from wasp-gate, I was home making dinner when bang. OUCH, OH MY F**KING GOD. I stubbed my toe. Yes, that. You know when out of the blue your toe catches in the corner of something and it’s literally the most painful foot experience in the world?! It wasn’t long before my poor little toe swelled up like a balloon and started to turn that blueish, black colour. Needless to say I was feeling very sorry for myself by the end of the day.

Fast forward a day and we arrive at strike three. Shopping bag-gate. There I am coming out of the supermarket, I was sent on an errand to find a very specific thing, which I couldn’t find so decided to pick up a few bits for the house. Strolling back to my car, I was beginning to plan out the rest of my day when, crash. Hello concrete, goodbye shopping! My plastic shopping bag burst at the seams and the entire contents of my grocery shop fell to their death. Why universe, WHY?!

So yeah, that was my week. Someone pass me a glass of wine quick…

Goodbye week, hello weekend. Things can only get better from here!

Let’s Get Social

So as you may know by now, I’m a big fan of Social Media and I’ve written a similar blog post to this before. But, let me tell you why I’m writing a social post again.

I’m one of those people who probably spends a little too much time on my phone, but what I’ve learnt over the past eight months of blogging is that your blog is really not going to amount to much without the help of social media. Pretty much all the bloggers I follow utilise it to help their engagement and followers to grow, and really when you think about it, it’s a great way to get exposure for your blog.

If you’re a blog starting out this year however, the social media world is against you. Both Facebook and Instagram have introduced new algorithms which make it so much harder to gain followers or likes, and sometimes I feel like it’s a constant up hill struggle. But I solider on because ultimately, having multiple social media platforms has really helped me to grow my following so far which I’m very grateful for.

But every so often I do wonder how many of my social media followers actually read my blog posts. Do you read my blog posts? I really hope you do!

I think I was a bit naive at the beginning of my blogging journey because there is so much more involved than just writing. I love writing, but I’ve also had to learn about photography, social media, theming accounts, becoming a brand, discovering how much or how little of myself I want to share with the world, and mostly I’ve learnt, how important social media engagement is to your growth. The whole experience has taught me so much that I didn’t know before.

And that’s where today’s post comes in. If you’re going through the same struggles as me, and finding it a bit tough to grow your social media presence, then let’s get social. Let’s have each others backs, connect on social media and share the love. I want to come follow you, and I’d be so happy if you could please come follow me too.

Here’s where you can find me:

Facebook

The good old reliable that is Facebook. I share all my blog posts here as well as letting you know about places and spaces I’m visiting.

Instagram

Instagram is probably my favourite of all because I love pretty pictures. I’m not a great photographer or anything, but I’ve been learning loads about theming and colours so I think I’m getting a little better.

Twitter

Twitter is great for instant conversations, and I love tweeting live when there are big things happening like events or launches.

Snapchat: @imsimplysorcha

Snapchat is coming a close second favourite behind Instagram lately. I love the instant interaction it gives you with your followers. I share lots of videos on products, what I’m up to and my daily musings.

Pinterest

I’ve always been a fan of Pinterest for inspiration and my Pinterest boards are a collection of all the things I love from beauty looks, to outfits, to yummy food and spectacular spaces.

I really hope you all come say hey. And, it would be fab if you could comment below with all your social media handles so I can come follow you all too.

50 Things That Make Me Happy (Part 5)

It’s that time again, the time when I share all the things making me happy. Since my first happiness post which I wrote a few months back, I’ve received some lovely feedback from you all on how much you love reading these posts and how they make you think of all the things that make you happy too.

It’s so easy these days to get caught up in stress, in bad days, in money worries, in day-to-day mundane moments, that sometimes we forget to focus on all the positive and good things in our lives. We all have bad days, we all have struggles, we all have worries, but for me, I’ve found that by taking time to think about and write down all the things I’m grateful for, it’s easier for me to have a positive mindset.

I’m a firm believer in the law of attraction and getting back what you give out in this world. I’ve experienced first hand the benefits that practicing gratitude can bring many times over, particularly over the past few years, and therefore I try and practice it as often as possible in my daily life.

And while there is so much more involved in gratitude practice than just writing one blog post a month, this is my way of sitting back and reflecting over weeks gone by and being thankful for all the good things that I experienced.

So here it goes… All the things making me happy this month, part five:

  • Walks in the park
  • Girls nights out
  • Stickers
  • Water (the drinking kind)
  • Meditation
  • Makeup brushes
  • Lip balm
  • Sunny days
  • Telephones (for allowing me to speak to those far away)
  • Love

  • White nail polish
  • Travel quotes
  • Fruit (particularly berries)
  • Taking trips down memory lane with old friends
  • Laughing
  • The 90s backpack revival
  • Writing
  • Waterproof mascara
  • Holiday research
  • Sing songs

  • Staying up too late
  • Light weight t-shirts
  • Colourful flowers
  • Budda
  • Trips away with great friends
  • Face masks
  • Neckpieces
  • My new adventure camera for travelling
  • Long breakfasts with my parents
  • My new agenda

  • Dewy makeup
  • High heels
  • My new Lumee phone cover
  • Not having to wear socks
  • The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight
  • Birthdays
  • Nice pens to write with
  • Max Benjamin Stick Diffusers
  • Meeting and chatting to fellow bloggers
  • Family events

  • Gilmore Girls boxset marathons
  • Cocktails
  • Hugs from my hubby
  • Long drives
  • Sunsets on Dun Laoghaire pier
  • Snapchat filters
  • Playing and spending time with my friends little ones
  • Lunch dates
  • Booking hotels
  • Cosy nights in on the couch

As always the things I’m most grateful for are the people in my life and the little things that sometimes I just take for granted. My incredible family, my amazing friends, my wonderful hubby; all the things we are doing, all the memories we are making.

I’m not always positive, I have my bad days like everyone else. But no matter how bad our day, our week, our month, or no matter what is going right or wrong in our lives, there is always something positive if you just look hard enough. As the old saying goes; there is always, always something to be thankful for.

What’s making you happy this month?

Monday Motivation

Well hello to all my lovely readers, it’s been a long time since we’ve talked. Ten days to be exact. Ten days since I last wrote or shared a blog post and the longest I’ve ever gone without saying hello and sharing my thoughts with you all on my little blog.

It’s been an interesting week, I was away then I came home unwell, my anxiety decided to rear its ugly head again, and I just really needed some down time. I forget sometimes that I’m just the kind of person who can’t let things spiral out of control, and I don’t mean having fun and letting go. I mean being so busy that I don’t take time to breath, to relax, to sleep, to rest. I don’t do well in times like that so sometimes, I just need to remind myself of that.

Last week was one of those weeks. I needed some time out, I needed to rest, I needed to get back into my normal routine, I needed to have a good long talk with myself and say enough is enough!

Does anyone else go through times like this? When there’s so much going on that you feel like you’re losing control and need to take a step back? Maybe it’s just me…? As I’ve said many times over the past few months, this year was always going to be a transition year for me, and while that’s incredibly exciting, it’s also sometimes scary, and overwhelming.

But I’ve paused, I’ve rebooted and now I’m ready to get back into the swing of things. There’s lots of exciting things happening over the next few months so it’s time to knuckle down and face it head on.

I hope you’ll continue to come along for the ride!

Hello August, Hello Blog

Image: WeHeartIt

It’s been a few days since I’ve blogged so apologies for the lack of contact and communication but Dave and I were away for a few days in Spain with some close friends of ours and I decided to take a few days off.

If you read some of my posts last week, you’ll know that for the first time since I started blogging, I’ve been experiencing some writers block, and just doubting my blogging content and writing overall really.

Image: WeHeartIt

Starting a blog was a scary endeavour, mainly because I began sharing my life with the world. So sometimes I wonder whether I’m doing the right thing. The right thing by me, the right thing by you, my readers.

When I’m going through times like this, I always come back to one thing – I love writing. But blogging is so much more than just writing. It’s photo taking, it’s idea making, it’s finding ways to write good, interesting content, it’s trying to find your niche, it’s trying to find a following. And that’s not always easy, it takes time, it takes patience, it takes effort, but most of all, it takes passion.

My little blog has been around for seven months now and sometimes I can’t believe I’ve got this far. I’m averaging about 2,500 views a month with about 1,500 unique visitors so it’s doing pretty well. I’m by no means up there with some of the brilliant bloggers that I love and follow, but I’m pretty proud of what I’ve achieved so far.

I do question myself, I do worry that I’m doing the right thing, I do wonder where it’s going to take me, if anywhere. I hope it takes me somewhere. I suppose the sky is the limit as they say, I just need to believe that it is so that I can reach for it.

Image: Pinterest

But I’ve had a few days off to reflect, to think, to reevaluate, and now it’s time to get back to writing, and sharing my thoughts, loves, likes, interests and adventures with you all.

So on that note, I’d really love for you to comment below or get in touch on my facebook, twitter or instagram and let me know your thoughts on my little blog, what you like reading, what you don’t like reading, and help me steer it back on course so I can keep on growing.

I so appreciate all of you who take the time to stop by and read or like or comment, without you there wouldn’t be a blog. So from me to you… Thank you!
