Simply Lippy Challenge Day 20 | PS… Matte Lipstick Crayon in Vamp

Today’s Simply Lippy choice is another brilliant lip product from Penneys’ PS… collection (Primark for my non-Irish followers), and is one of their matte lipstick crayons. Once again, this is a lip product I hadn’t tried before now, but the lovely ladies from Penneys sent it to me a few weeks ago and I loved the look of it.

The shade, Vamp, is a gorgeous dark purple berry shade, and we all know I love a berry lip. I don’t often use lip crayons but when I do, I generally really like them and this one is no different.

Application is so easy with the creamy formula, and once again the pigment is spot on, probably due to its soft finish which I would describe as a satin matte rather than a more traditional matte. Its lasting power is its only flaw, but that can be forgiven due to its great price point.

It’s not a shade I would wear every day as it’s very dark purple, and ‘vampy’ as the title suggests, but I love it nonetheless! There’s something so sultry about a very dark lip and every once in a while it is a fab shade to wear.

I’m going for a girly night out with my Mum tonight and therefore decided to go for a strong makeup look to match this lip colour. I opted for a grey/purple smokey eye and I think it works well with the berry lip. It’s not a look I would usually chose for daytime, but as it’s Friday I thought, what the hell!

I even bumped into an old friend of mine who complimented it so that’s always lovely to hear. It’s strong and bold, but if you can’t be adventurous on a Friday then why can you be?!

What do you guys think of this shade? I know it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Don’t forget, I’m sharing all my challenge photos and progress over on my social media pages so come follow me over there! You’ll find me on InstagramFacebook and Twitter. Oh, and if you feel like joining me for a cuppa and a chat then I’m over on snapchat too. Just search for @imsimplysorcha!

Naked Ultimate Basics Palette | Urban Decay

I don’t usually write about events I go to, but I’m so excited about this product launch that I just can’t wait to talk about it. In fact, I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a product launch since MAC’s Marilyn Monroe collection, or maybe NARS’s Andy Warhol limited edition collection, eeek I don’t know. Let’s just say, I’m frickin’ excited!

When writing reviews or sharing product thoughts with you all, I always use, wear them and test them them for several weeks or months before writing about them so that I can give you all an honest, thorough review. But, this is different. I haven’t even done a full review yet and already I’m writing about it. Let me explain…

I’m very lucky that since starting my blog, I’ve been invited to some amazing events with brands I love, and occasionally receive press samples of new products. It’s something I’m very grateful for and while I’m not currently working full time, it’s an exciting part of the blogging world that I love being able to take part in. It gives me a chance to meet with fellow like-minded bloggers, some who I’ve known for a few years, and others who I’m just meeting for the first time. It’s the perfect excuse for us to chat all things blogging, beauty and lifestyle.

The reason why I’m writing this post is because Urban Decay is one of my all-time favourite brands ever, like ever! I love their ethos, I love their branding, but most of all I love their products. You’ll already know this about me if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, and unless you’ve been living under a beauty rock, you will know that last Thursday, Urban Decay launched their new Naked palette, Naked Ultimate Basics, in Ireland.

Naked Ultimate Basics is an all-matte, warm toned, twelve shade palette and in my opinion, is their best palette ever and the best thing to happen to palettes in ages. The shades are to die for, the pigments are intense and the packaging is divine. I’ve only used it for the first time this morning and let me tell you, it’s L.O.V.E, love!

At the event yesterday, the lovely Danielle Roberts, Urban Decay’s makeup artist extroadinaire, created this insanely gorgeous look using three shades from the palette, Faith, Extra Bitter and Lethal. Extra Bitter is a nod to the original Bitter shade from their Vice 4 palette, while Lethal is very similar to my favourite shade from their Gwen Stefani palette, Punk. I’ve a feeling these will become my new obsession.

I promise to share a proper review post in the coming days with some different looks from the palette as I always do, but for now, I will just leave you with the beauty that is quite possibly, my new favourite palette ever in life!

The palette costs €47 and is available from both Debenhams and House of Fraser.

Bridget Jones’s Baby with Glossybox

Last night I was invited to go along to a screening of Bridget Jones’s Baby hosted by the fabulous Glossybox to celebrate their fifth birthday. For those of you who don’t know about Glossybox, it’s a monthly beauty subscription box that sends samples each month of new products coming to the market, and even sometimes has some full size products and cult favourites included too.

The boxes are extremely cute and at last nights event, we were all given one of their special edition Red boxes for September. This box was created in conjunction with Red magazine’s Beauty Director, the fabulous Annabel Meggeson, and contains six absolute gems of products.

Vitamasques Hydro Face Mask

This mask contains a patented AMF (Artificial Moisturising Factor) – I’m not sure what that means to be honest, but apparently it enhances the skin’s ability to retain moisture. It claims to keep the skin hydrated for up to two hours, which makes me very excited to try it so I will keep you posted.

The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

Okay, I’m a little bit squealy excited about this! These body shop masks are everywhere at the moment, I’ve seen so many bloggers testing them and talking about them, and all accounts so far seem to be very positive. You know me, I love an ‘aul glow to the skin, and this mask claims to give you just that, so I reckon this one will be getting put to the test tonight. I can’t wait any longer!

Catrice Volumizing Lip Booster

I only became aware of what great lip products Catrice make a few months back when I fell in love with their Ultimate Stay lipstick range. This volumizing lip booster claims to give your lips volume and shine, as well as hiding any fine lines, so I’m really looking forward to giving this a go.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Now, let’s begin by saying, anything that claims to be ‘Better Than Sex’ has got to be pretty feckin’ amazing – right? It’s a pretty big claim to make so I’m looking forward to using it and seeing how much it lives up to its claim. I have read and heard so much about Too Faced products over the years, but I’m ashamed to say I’ve never actually tried anything of theirs before, so I can’t wait to give this a try.

Rodial Smokey Eye Pen

I love a good eyeliner and Rodial products are generally quite good so here’s hoping this is good too. My cousin told me she’s tried it and really likes it so again, I will keep you posted.

The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Lip Balm

I haven’t heard of The Organic Pharmacy products before so I’m intrigued to do some research and read what they are all about. This lip balm is a really handy handbag size and it smells gorgeous too. It contains Shea Butter and Rose Hip so that’s always a good start for keeping lips moisturised. As some of you may know I got my lips very severely sunburnt when I was younger so I constantly have lip balm on my lips, so if this is good, I will be very excited.

These subscription boxes are such a great idea for trialling and testing products before going out and buying them, especially if you’re a beauty fanatic. I’m very excited to give all of these a try, and as always, I’ll report back and let you know how I get on.

On a side note, Bridget Jones’s Baby was absolutely hilarious. The girls and I cried laughing the whole way through, it’s that funny. So if you’re looking for something fun to do with your girls, then I highly recommend going to see it. I’d even go so far as to say, it’s better than the last one.

If you’ve tried any of these products, please let me know what you think as I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’d equally love to hear what you thought of the movie if you’ve seen it too. I came out feeling great after it, sometimes all you need is a good belly laugh!

Lipstick Look | Going Dark for Autumn

The more I read about makeup trends for Autumn/Winter, the more I’m seeing dark lips everywhere. Now, a dark lip has been popular for the past few Autumn/Winter seasons so there’s nothing new there. However, this year they have gone even darker. Designers such as Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen went for strong, deep berry shades, with Cranberry and Cherry being two very popular shades of choice on the runway all round.

I love a dark lip. Whether it be a strong orange or fuchsia for Summer, or a berry or burgundy for Autumn, I love playing around with shades and looks. It’s not unusual for me to buy a few new lippys when a new season rolls around and that’s exactly what I did a few weeks ago.

If you read my Daytime Autumn Lipstick post a few weeks ago, you’ll know I was recently in Charlotte Tilbury testing out some new shades. And while I was there, I picked up the lippy for today’s post, Night Crimson. Now, while this is not a ‘new’ lipstick to Charlotte Tilbury, it is new to me, and very much an on-trend colour for this season. It’s a bit different to other shades I have, and therefore I’ve been loving wearing it over the past few days.

Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks are always a good purchase in my view, they are super hydrating and moisturising, they have very good pigment, and they wear well on the lips too. Night Crimson is from the K.I.S.S.I.N.G range which apparently contains anti-oxidants and special waxes to plump up the lips and leave them feeling super soft. Now, while I’m not sure about the plumping part, this lipstick definitely leaves my lips soft, and I love the glossy look it gives them too.

I would describe this shade as a dark cherry, and therefore it is the perfect shade to get me through the Autumn months. It looks equally good with a soft nude eye, or a charcoal smoke, and therefore is very versatile in how it can be worn.

I’ll just never get tired of trying new lipsticks, and I hope you won’t get tired of me talking about them either!

Do you have a favourite dark Autumn shade? If so then let me know what it is by commenting below. I always love hearing what your favourites are.

Hey There, Tom Ford

I don’t usually share posts like this, but last week I finally got my hands on the most amazing pair of Tom Ford sunglasses which I have been lusting after for over six months now, and I’m just so excited that I’ve decided to tell you all about them.

I’ve wanted to buy a new pair of good sunglasses for a while now, my trusty RayBan’s as much as I love them, are a bit worse for wear, and before they give out on me I thought it best to buy some more.

The sunglasses I got are the Tom Ford Irina’s and they are literally to die for (squeal!) – I just love them. I don’t know about you but I have to try sunglasses on a million times before committing, you know, see how they look with my hair down, my hair tied up, how they feel, all the usual things you consider when buying a pair of sunglasses. And these babies were the first pair I came across that I liked every which way.

One sunny afternoon about two months ago I finally made the decision to splurge and buy them, so off I went into town super excited. But low and behold as I went to pick them up from the shelf they were gone. Gone, vanished, disappeared. I was devastated.

After a frantic conversation with the girl at the counter I discovered that they had only received a limited amount of stock so were sold out, and not only that, but also there was a waiting list for the next delivery, and they didn’t even know when the next delivery was going to arrive because Tom Ford also had a waiting list. Big. Fat. Disaster.

So all Summer I searched for another pair, none quite living up to the expectations I had, leaving me pining for my beautiful Tom Ford’s that got away. That was of course, until last week. Last week when I finally got the call from Brown Thomas to say delivery had been confirmed and they would be back in stock the following day, AND there was a pair available for me. FOR ME. Hallelujah! Thank you sunglasses gods!

Now I know some of you may think this is ridiculous nonsense, getting excited about a pair of sunglasses. And I understand. But I told you, I’m an accessories girl. And you want to know why? Because they fit, they always fit.

I’ve had a turbulent relationship with clothes and fashion all my life, I’ve a curvy shape, new season trends look completely ridiculous on me half the time, and therefore it’s not always easy for me to shop. But I love to shop, and that’s why I love accessories. They absolutely never make me feel bad about myself.

They are just so pretty that I’ve decided to keep them safe until we head off on our travels next month. The first item I can tick off my packing list!

Travel Thursday: 8 Weeks To Go, Help!

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you will know that shortly I am heading off on a very big trip. A trip that let’s be honest, I had no idea would take place this year, but somehow the stars aligned and it is really happening. Eeeek!

I know many of you will have heard me talking about this already, it’s not really new information, but last night I endured the stark realisation that we are leaving in less than eight weeks. Eh, what?! I don’t know where the Summer has gone to be perfectly honest with you, once I finished up work at the end of June I had so many plans and now it’s almost the end of August and I’ve only achieved about half of my goals.
But sure look it’ll be grand, there’s nothing I can do about that now, and now that our trip is so close, it’s time to forget about Summer goals and start planning for that. But, by planning I’m not actually talking about the trip itself, that’s all done and dusted (being the organisation freak that I am). The planning I am actually referring to here, is, wait for it… PACKING.

Packing. Where to start? What to bring? How can I pack for a whole two months and not bring every single thing I own?! I’m one of those ‘just in case’ people, you know the ones who bring everything away just in case they need it and it sits at the bottom of the suitcase for the whole trip? Yep, that’s me.

I’ve travelled before, I spent almost ten months travelling the world about six years ago, so I should be a pro at this stage. But, things were different then, I was backpacking, I was on a budget, and anything that came with me was basic, multi-purpose, and cheap. But not this time. This time it’s not just backpacking, it’s suitcases, it’s hotels, it’s nice restaurants, all of which mean I will need nice clothes, good makeup, clever accessories, great books, and even a pair of shoes or two.

Now, don’t get me wrong, this trip is not going to be all luxury, no. It’s going to be a mixture of budget and beautiful, and therefore I need to plan everything meticulously.

So this my lovely readers, is where you come in!

I need your help. I want to know all your must haves for travelling, the good, the bag and the ugly. I have a fair idea of what I need but the best advice anyone can get is from those who have been there, and done that. So, please, please, please help a sista out and let me know the following:

  • What was your must have makeup for travelling?
  • Any skincare you couldn’t live without?
  • Did you regret not bringing something with you?
  • Best books to read while seeing the world?
  • Your favourite item you brought that you used over and over again?
  • Best piece of advice you were given about going on your trip?
  • One thing you couldn’t have survived without?

I need every little morsel of information you have, stories, products, tips, whatever.

If you have specific tips for the places we’re going to which are Bali, the Gili Islands, Australia and Thailand, then please send them my way too. All the info on our trip is in my original travel post which you can read here if you want to know all about it.

I’m so looking forward to reading your comments, tips and stories, I would massively appreciate it if you could comment below with them all. MASSIVELY!

So on that note, I shall sign off and await all your comments with baited breath.

Review: Essie Cuticle Pen

I haven’t done a nail related beauty post before now, probably because I really don’t have good nails on my hands. They are quite soft and brittle, I take a lot of calcium so I’m not sure why, but I always have polish on them to keep them covered up.

I’m not great at painting my own nails so I tend to get them done in a salon, and often switch between getting a Shellac three week polish or just a simple file and paint. And as it’s coming into summer now, I’ll be getting them done even more regularly.

There’s just one issue however. The more polish you wear, the more dry your nails are, and that’s where the essie cuticle pen comes in.

I recently got given this to try at an event and started using it about three weeks ago. My nail therapist is always telling me to put more oil on my cuticles, and generally I’m very good at doing it, but I just haven’t found it to make a big difference. Until now!

This pen, apart from being so quick and easy to use, is both a softener and conditioner for your cuticles. It contains some fab ingredients such as Jojoba and Soybean oils, and Shea butter, meaning it is super hydrating and moisturising. I’ve been applying it almost every evening – you just twist the bottom of the pen to release the oil and using the soft bristle brush, apply to your cuticles and nails.

Now while it hasn’t transformed my nails completely, they are definitely less dry and I’ve noticed them becoming much harder too. Usually I can bend my nails quite easily when they aren’t covered in polish, and over the past few weeks that’s happening less and less which makes me so happy!

I have always looked at pictures of amazing nails on salon and nail social media accounts with just a little bit of envy, and while I don’t think my nails will ever be quite as fabulous as some of them, they are definitely improving.

Have any of you tried this before? I got it from the lovely ladies at the Nuala Woulfe Day Spa in Dublin so I’m not sure of the cost, so if anybody knows then please comment below!

I’m assuming most salons stocking essie products will have it or will at least be able to source it, I also think Boots stock essie products now too. I’m already dreading it running out so I’m going to go on the hunt and buy some more before it does!
