Wedding Memories with Social & Personal Weddings

A few months ago I got contacted by the lovely people in Social & Personal Weddings magazine to ask me if they could feature our wedding in their Autumn issue. They had seen some of my wedding posts on the blog and loved the photos, so needless to say I was very honoured and excited.

While I can’t take any credit for the beautiful photos which were the work of Moat Hill Photography, I have to say looking back on it all now, I’m so happy with how the day went. Yes there are one or two things I would change – I’m sure most brides feel that way about at least one thing a few months on – but overall, it really was the best day ever.

Surprisingly enough, today marks eight months since our wedding day, so the magazine feature is nicely timed. I am super happy with the piece which came out a few days ago in Ireland and it’s lovely to have as a memory of our big day too.

A lot has happened since we got married, we’ve visited and travelled to many places, I started this little old blog, I’ve changed jobs… None of which I ever could have dreamed of happening before I became a Mrs.

Our plan was to make our first year of marriage as fun, as crazy, and as full of adventure as possible and so far I think we’re on track. The next few months will be equally busy, my sister is getting married, we’ve a few more small trips in Ireland planned, and then of course our big trip around the world is happening where we will celebrate our first wedding anniversary on a beach in Thailand.

I’m so lucky to have had such an incredible few months, and I’m so grateful and thankful for it all. I always knew getting married would be amazing, but life after it has been pretty damn amazing too!

Summer Wedding Ideas

It’s been a while since I’ve written a wedding related post, but as I got married in Winter, lately I can’t help but trawl through Pinterest looking at all the beautiful Summer wedding pictures. There are so many things you can do for your wedding especially in Summer, and in ways I wish I could do it all over again.

Wouldn’t that be amazing? If you could have a wedding for every season? I easily have enough ideas, pictures, inspiration, and places in my mind that would allow me to do so. Of course I’d need to win the lotto first, and I’m not sure I could convince Dave to have another three weddings to capture Spring, Summer and Autumn. A ridiculous bridal dream I know!

Instead however, today I’ve decided to put together some of my favourite Summer wedding ideas from pictures and inspiration I’ve come across on Pinterest. If you’re getting married soon – I’m totally jealous! Joking. But maybe this will help inspire some thoughts and ideas for your big day.

Or if you’re already married like me but still love talking weddings, swooning over flowers, deliberating over colour themes, coming up with great favour or accessory ideas, then this post is for you!

Although I absolutely loved my wedding and wouldn’t change a thing, I always still find myself saying ‘oh I wish I did that‘, or ‘that would have been so much fun’ when I come across new ideas on Pinterest. I think most brides feel like that after their wedding.

Perhaps the moral of the story is to stop looking at wedding inspiration once you’re wedding is over, but alas, I just can’t help myself.

It’s Off To A Wedding We Go

Happy Saturday guys, I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend so far, despite the miserable weather we’re having in Dublin. If you’re further afield, I hope your weather is better than it is here!

So this morning we are off to my good friends Julie and Jeff’s wedding in the stunning Borris House in Carlow.

Photo online from dkphoto.ie

I’ve heard so many things about this venue, and as you can see from the picture it looks absolutely gorgeous so we’re very excited to get there and celebrate with our lovely friends.

This is our third wedding of the year so far so there’s a lot of love in the air at the moment and it’s amazing. If you’ve been following my blog up to now, you’ll know that I’m a bit of a hopeless romantic and I absolutely love a good wedding.

Knowing my friend Julie this is going to be a very special day with lots of amazing things going on so keep an eye on my social media to have a look at it all. My Instagram is: http://www.instagram.com/simplysorcha and my Snapchat username is: imsimplysorcha. I’ll be sharing a full post next week on our weekend too.

I’ll also share a full wedding outfit post, but for now here’s a sneak peak…

Clearly the hair isn’t finished yet but I’ll take it down just before we arrive so that the curls are nice and bouncy. As I’m wearing a black dress I’ve also gone for a charcoal smokey eye.

We’re on the road now so I’ll sign off for the weekend, hope you all have a great one.

Wedding, Photos, Love

Well this is the post you’ve all been waiting for (well maybe not!) but a couple of weeks back, I promised to share a full post on our wedding photography once I received all the images from our photographers. I’m so excited to say that the time has finally come and I hope you won’t be disappointed!

Can I just start by showing you the amazingly cute packaging that our USB key arrived in. Because oh my god, seriously, I’ve never seen anything like this before!

I opened the parcel to find this little wooden box, which slides open. And inside was not only the cutest ever matching wooden USB key, but also some Polaroids of some of our pictures and a little magnet. I’m all about the details, and this was just the icing, on top of the icing of the cake!

Our wedding photographers were the amazing Paul and Elaine from Moat Hill Photography. Like most brides, I didn’t know where to start when looking for a wedding photographer so put a lot of time into researching different people. I asked all my friends who had been married for recommendations, I trawled through magazines and wedding blogs, and I read what felt like hundreds of reviews online, until I came across Moat Hill.

The minute I came across their website I was sold. The decision was made. Aside from the small task of getting Dave on board too, I knew these were the photographers for us. I needn’t have worried about Dave either because once he saw some images of previous weddings they had done, he was in agreement and we pretty much booked them on the spot!

Of course we still had to meet with them, but we were pretty sure nothing could happen that would change our minds, and we were right. When we met with Paul to run through our vision for the day, we instantly clicked with him. He has that incredible ability to be super professional, whilst also being completely laid back – the sign of someone truly passionate about what they do in my opinion.

We didn’t want just standard wedding photos, now don’t get me wrong, of course we wanted some traditional pictures, but we also wanted in the moment, good and bad, funny and sad. We wanted relaxed. And we knew that’s exactly what we would get after just a few short minutes into our meeting with Paul.

On our wedding day itself, both Paul and Elaine were such a pleasure to work with. One of the things we loved most when we decided to book them was the fact that they both could come to shoot our wedding meaning nothing would get missed. Elaine spent the morning with the boys, while Paul spent the morning with my girls and I, and honestly it was all just so easy going. They fitted in so well, we hardly even knew they were there! We completely put our trust in them for the day, we had no lists, we just let them guide us through it all and I’m so glad we did because we were not disappointed.

How they managed to capture every little detail of our day the way they did, is incredible to me. They missed nothing and it has been so amazing to see our day through their eyes. As a bride or groom, you miss so much of what is going on because you’re so busy, so it has been a very special experience being able to now see the day unfold through our pictures.

So here you go, here’s a little taster of just some of our incredible photos:

So there you go, eeeek! I hope you like them as much as we do!

I haven’t shared too many pictures as I plan on doing a few more posts. I have a very funny story about my dress which a couple of friends have told me I have to share on the blog so I might do that soon, and I’ll do a separate post on all the little intricate details too if you would like to see them so just let me know.

Obviously there are many great wedding photographers out there, but Moat were just perfect for us, we honestly couldn’t have asked for any better. So to any of you budding brides out there looking for something a little less ordinary, I would definitely recommend checking them out: www.mhphoto.ie.

And as I say so often, oh how I wish I could do it all over again…

Shoes, Glorious Wedding Shoes

As I mentioned last week, my wedding photos finally arrived and I’m still bursting with excitement. I promised you all a full blog post on my wedding photography which is coming very soon, I promise. But for now, I’m going to dedicate this post to my wedding shoes. My wonderfully pretty wedding shoes!

If you’re like me and obsessed with all things footwear, then you’ll appreciate this blog post. When flicking through our hundreds of wedding images I was totally blown away by the photos our incredible photographers, Moat Hill Photography, captured of my shoes at different points throughout the day. I thought, wow, these pictures are too good not to share!

So here you go…

Don’t they just look delicious?!

Unlike a lot of brides, I didn’t go for your ‘typical’ bridal heels, and opted for a pair of Nude YSL Tribute Sandals that I’ve had my eyes on forever. They aren’t particularly dainty or sparkly, or what you would normally expect a bride to wear, but I didn’t care. My wedding was a perfect excuse to splurge and that I did!

My hubby just can’t understand how I can spend so much money on shoes or handbags, but the men just don’t get it ladies, do they?! Shoes always fit, they always make you feel good – and I felt amazing in mine. And the fact that they were super comfortable too was a big bonus!

Never underestimate the power of a great shoe! I shared a post over the weekend about the power of retail therapy, but I think this needs to be followed by a nod to the power a great shoe to make you feel like a million dollars. I lasted all day and pretty much all night in mine apart from the last hour where I swapped them out for a pair of slippers – so it was money very well spent in my view!

So my advice to any budding brides out there is to buy whatever shoes you want – you don’t have to conform to the ‘norm’ here. This is the perfect time in your life to splash out and purchase those beauties you’ve always had your eye on – whatever they are.

And on that note, I will leave you to dream…

Happy Monday!

Eeek, It’s Wedding Photo Day

Sniff, sniff, sniff… Don’t worry, these are not tears of sadness, they are tears of joy, of excitement, of elation, of happiness, because we just got our wedding photographs and they are amazing. Simply amazing. They are everything we could have ever hoped for and so much more.

When we were planning our wedding, it took us a while to find a photographer that was perfect for us, but all the effort and research we put in was so worth it. I will share a full post on all our wedding photography details shortly (once I’ve finished balling!) but for now, here’s a sneak preview…

Everyone tells you what an amazing experience it is looking through your wedding photos, and they weren’t wrong. I have been counting down the weeks since we got home from honeymoon and I’m so happy the day has finally arrived where we can relive it all again through our photos.

What an amazing day it was, if only we could do it all over…

I’m off to look at them for the hundredth time but I’ll be back with that full post soon!

Wedding Makeup Look

Last Saturday I did this makeup look for my cousins wedding. I was wearing a black dress so decided to go for a smokey eye and neutral lip. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I tend to wear more natural makeup during the week, so on weekends I love to play around with different eye shadows and colours for a more dramatic look, especially if I have something on.

For this look I primed my face with my Zo Skin Health Dr. Obagi Sunscreen and Primer to start – this is a product I use regularly as part of my skin care regime. I started using Dr. Obagi products about five years ago after a visit to my dermatologist and have never looked back since. But I’ll do a full post on that another time!

This primer is amazing for holding your make up in place, and it has a very slight tint so it gives a lovely glow to your skin too. Once I applied this, I followed by a blending my foundation over my face.

Given that it was an early start and I was tired, I then applied a generous amount of concealer under my eyes, on my nose, the top of my cheek bones and my chin using my Charlotte Tilbury ‘Retoucher’ concealer pen to cover any dark circles and blemishes. I find this Retoucher pen so easy to use, and the consistency of the concealer is light meaning it blends well into your foundation.

To complete the face, I blended a light layer of face powder over my foundation to seal it then applied blusher to my cheekbones using ‘Legendary’ blush from the MAC Marilyn Monroe collection.

I followed this by dabbing a small amount of highlighter to the tops of my cheekbones with my finger using this fab gold shimmer cream highlighter from the RiRi Loves MAC collection. This one of my favourite highlighters but I use it very sparingly as it was a limited edition range and I’m trying to prolong running out!

To finish off my cheeks, I applied light dusting of MAC mineralise skin finish powder in ‘Soft and Gentle’ to give an added glow.

I wouldn’t usually highlight as much as I did here, but as it was a wedding and I wanted the glow to last all day and night.

Now on to my eyes…

After filling in my brows with my MAC brow pencil, I started by applying ‘Foxy’ from my Naked2 palette all over my eye as a base coat, adding a touch of ‘Bootycall’ to the inner part of the eye for a pop of brightness.

This was followed by adding a mix of black from my NARS Self Portrait 2 palette, and YDK from Naked2 in the crease of my eyelid and blending together. I then added a light layer of ‘Busted’ from the Naked2 palette on the eyelid and underneath the waterline on the bottom of my eye to enhance the smokey look. The mix of black and brown gave a perfect day time smokey effect without being too dark.

Once I was done blending, I then applied a thick line of eyeliner to the upper eyelid, and black kohl eyeliner to the waterline of my bottom eyelid for a more dramatic effect. I finished it off by applying mascara to both my upper and lower lashes.

To complete the entire look, I puckered up and applied some ‘Revved Up’ from the Ellie Goulding collection for MAC to my lips for a slightly tinted neutral lip.

So there you have it. A perfect day-to-night smokey eye look!

Here’s a look at the full list of products I used:
