Happy 100 Simply Lippy Days… To Me!

Well, if you caught my Day 100 lippy post which I posted a little while ago, you will know that the big day has arrived. Yes, today I reached the 100 day mark of my 365 day Simply Lippy challenge and I’m so excited!

I’m not going to lie, there were days over the past three months or so, where I really hit a wall with the challenge and didn’t think I could keep going. It’s tough doing a daily challenge – I wake up in the morning, take product shots and makeup photos, go to work for ten or so hours, then come home, write my blog post, edit my photos, then share my posts online and on social media. It really is a full time job, on top of a full time job!

In saying all that, I honestly have really loved it, and though I had a brief moment of wanting to quit, I’ve decided to keep going and see if I can make the 365 day mark. I’m running very low on lipsticks, and I’ve a long way to go still, but where there’s a will, there’s a way as the old saying goes…

Over the past few days, I’ve been looking back at all my posts to-date, and I can’t believe how many shades, brands, and formula’s I’ve tried. From high end to budget, from matte to gloss, from liquid to cream; I’ve tried them all! But a lipstick lover’s job is never really done, and there are a lot more for me to try still.

Of course I’ve had some favourites, and some least favourites, but instead of sharing them here, I’m going to do a round up video of my first 100 days seen as I haven’t got around to doing that before now.

In the meantime, here’s a look back at all the shades I’ve worn over the past 100 days…

Review: Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Foundation. Probably the beauty product that I test and try out the least and I’m not sure why really. Up until a few years ago all I ever wore was MAC’s studio fix fluid foundation and it worked so well for me that I was reluctant to move away from it. I’ll buy and try anything else – powders, blushers, mascaras, lipsticks, you name it! But, with foundation I’ve always tended to stick to what I know. Up until last year that was.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation hadn’t really entered my radar until I started coming across it on some of my favourite blogs over the past year or so. Everywhere I looked it was getting glowing reviews, and some of my friends I discussed it with, swore by it too. Naturally my interest started to grow and I became intrigued to try it out.

When my sister was getting married last September, her makeup artist, the lovely Sarah Keary, recommended using Luminous Silk on my face for its great lasting power and dewy finish. Plus, she explained to me that it looks great in wedding photographs as it has no SPF, and therefore you get no flashback. With comments like those, how could I resist?!

When my makeup was finished, I absolutely loved how this foundation both looked and felt on my skin, and knew then and there that I needed it in my life. Immediately!

I finally got my hands on a bottle when I came home from my travels in December and I have been using it pretty religiously ever since. And as if that wasn’t enough, my Mum and Sister have been converted too – it’s that good.

The consistency is very lightweight, and it definitely lives up to its ‘luminous’ claim. As some of you may know by now, I have dry skin and therefore my face has a tendency to look dull, particular in the Winter months. Therefore, I’m always looking for ways to brighten my face and get a bit of glow back into it, hence why this foundation was such a winner for me.

The forumla is oil free which works great on my skin tone, but my Mum has oily skin and it seems to work just as well on her too. I usually wear a brightening primer under my foundation, but I’ve found I haven’t needed to with this which is also a major bonus. I still wear primer, but if you have skin like I do, you could probably get away without using one at all.

In the above before and after photos the foundation has been applied to bare skin. No primer or other makeup has been used.

Because the formula is also lightweight, it’s very buildable meaning this foundation is great for day or night too. In the day time I’ve been using one-to-two pumps for a light coverage, then at night I sometimes add an extra pump for a slightly heavier coverage. It’s rare that you find a foundation that works well for both day and night, and isn’t too cakey or thick on the face, and this is the main reason why I’ve become totally obsessed with it!

In the above before and after photos the foundation has been applied to bare skin. No primer or other makeup has been used.

I don’t think I could ever go back to my old MAC reliable now, and I’m pretty sure this is going to become my go-to foundation from now on. Don’t get me wrong, I do really like other foundations, and Studio Fix is still a great full coverage option, but Luminous Silk is without a doubt my new favourite.

The only down side for some will be the hefty price tag that accompanies it. At €45 it’s an expensive purchase, and there are some budget alternatives on the market that could really hold their own beside it, for example, the Bourjois City Radiance foundation which I also really like and reviewed last year. But to be honest, for a high-end option, I think Luminous Silk is worth every penny of that €45 and I certainly will be buying it over and over again!

Have you tried Luminous Silk? If so, what do you think? If not, what is your favourite high-end foundation? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Oscars 2016 – My Favourite Looks

It was one of the biggest night’s in fashion as well as film last night, and any fashion lover won’t have been able to resist all the style and glamour that was the Academy Awards red carpet. It’s possibly my favourite fashion night of the year (even above the Met Gala) and I managed to keep myself awake until 01.30am Irish time to catch a glimpse of all this year’s celeb looks.

The Oscars are the crème de la crème of events when it comes to beautiful gowns, and although last night’s dresses weren’t the most stand out looks of all time, I’ve picked out my top three to share with you all.

Not dissimilar to earlier award season events this year, rich sequins, golds and whites were donned by many female stars, with sultry eyes and nude lips dominating the red carpet also.

Here’s a look at my Top Three looks from the night:

Cate Blanchett

Cate’s beautiful Armani Privé Seafoam coloured gown was the last dress I saw before falling to sleep last night and my first thoughts were yes. Just yes! The seafoam colour which is like a soft aqua shade, is just gorgeous on Cate and her hair and makeup is understated and classy.

A soft grey mixed with what appears to be a hint of purple eyeshadow compliments the subtle pop of lavender that runs through Cate’s gown and her soft lip finishes the look of perfectly. This is just beautiful and elegant all round in my opinion.

Margot Robbie

Margot has been on fire this awards season and last night was no different in this ultra sexy gold Tom Ford number. This girl just screams Oscar Glam with this look and the shape of this dress is super flattering on her enviable figure.

Her soft waves, again paired with light makeup, is the perfect accompaniment to this gorgeous gown.

Saoirse Ronan

To me this is Saoirse’s best look of the year so far, without a doubt. And it was also my favourite look of the night (not just because she is Irish!). This rich green colour is just to die for on her skin tone and I’m in love with this charcoal smokey eye and soft hair combination.

I was a little thrown by the mismatched earrings at first, but hey, if you can pull it off as well as Saoirse can then why not?!

So what do you think? Who was your best dressed on the night? I do have to say that Olivia Munn and Jennifer Garner both looked pretty fab too.

I finally got my hands on the new Urban Decay Gwen Stefani eyeshadow palette over the weekend so I’ll be recreating some of these makeup looks over the next few days. Make sure you keep an eye on the blog so you don’t miss out.

Unfortunately it’s now time for me to come back down to earth and get ready for a very normal Monday in work!

Hope you all have a great one.
