Simply Lippy Challenge Day 320| Barry M Matte Me Up Matte Liquid Lip Paint in Shade, Pop Up

Throughout my challenge so far, I’ve only worn one Barry M lip product, one of their Matte Me Up lip kits in a gorgeous rose berry shade, Runway. My first impressions of both the liner and matte lipstick were very good, and so I decided to try out another of their liquid matte paints today.

Today’s shade is the same product as what was in the lip kit, only this time I bought it on its own as I’m not a huge user of lip liners. I probably should use them more, but I never really got into the habit even though I’m obsessed with all things lipstick!

This lippy is a liquid matte as I mentioned above, and it has a very wet formula. At first I thought it would be too wet to give a full, opaque coverage but that wasn’t the case at all.

It blends easily, with no dragging or pulling on the colour, and once it dries in, it leaves a very smooth matte finish with incredible staying power.

Because it’s so wet, there is no hydration or moisturising element to it, so if your lips are in any way dry, you might need to prime them before wearing this, or apply some balm later in the day. Having said that, I suffer from very dry lips and didn’t find it too drying at all.

Both the pigment and shade are just gorgeous, and the colour pay off is excellent too. A little will really gone a long way with this, so that’s always a plus for me.

If you’re a liquid lip fan and in the market for a new budget buy, then this could definitely be worth checking out. It’s not my favourite liquid matte, but I did enjoy wearing it.

Happy 100 Simply Lippy Days… To Me!

Well, if you caught my Day 100 lippy post which I posted a little while ago, you will know that the big day has arrived. Yes, today I reached the 100 day mark of my 365 day Simply Lippy challenge and I’m so excited!

I’m not going to lie, there were days over the past three months or so, where I really hit a wall with the challenge and didn’t think I could keep going. It’s tough doing a daily challenge – I wake up in the morning, take product shots and makeup photos, go to work for ten or so hours, then come home, write my blog post, edit my photos, then share my posts online and on social media. It really is a full time job, on top of a full time job!

In saying all that, I honestly have really loved it, and though I had a brief moment of wanting to quit, I’ve decided to keep going and see if I can make the 365 day mark. I’m running very low on lipsticks, and I’ve a long way to go still, but where there’s a will, there’s a way as the old saying goes…

Over the past few days, I’ve been looking back at all my posts to-date, and I can’t believe how many shades, brands, and formula’s I’ve tried. From high end to budget, from matte to gloss, from liquid to cream; I’ve tried them all! But a lipstick lover’s job is never really done, and there are a lot more for me to try still.

Of course I’ve had some favourites, and some least favourites, but instead of sharing them here, I’m going to do a round up video of my first 100 days seen as I haven’t got around to doing that before now.

In the meantime, here’s a look back at all the shades I’ve worn over the past 100 days…

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 99 | Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Kit in Shade, Runway

My lipstick choice for today was one of the new lip kits from Barry M, and one that I have been pleasantly surprised by.

From the moment the original Kylie Lip Kits from Kylie Jenner were released, lots of brands began releasing their own versions, some of which have been hugely successful.

I have yet to try a Kylie Lip Kit, mostly because I just don’t know if they will live up to the massive hype that surrounds them, but I’m sure I’ll give in at some point because as we all know, I just can’t resist a new lippy!

Anyway, when I was in Boots the other day, I spotted this version from Barry M and decided to buy it and put it to the test. I’ve never tried anything from Barry M before now, and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’m pretty impressed.

The lip kit contains a lip liner and a matte liquid lip colour, both of which are in a gorgeous deep berry shade called Runway, and I just love the colour. I would describe it as a very dark raspberry, almost wine colour, and the pigment is just divine.

The lip liner is quite creamy and very easy to apply which is a great start. I applied a thickish line to my lips as I didn’t want it too fine, before then applying the liquid lip colour over it.

If you haven’t used liquid mattes before, one thing to note is that they will not be creamy, or hydrating. Some have slight creaminess but this did not, and it also has a very wet consistency meaning it does take a good few minutes to dry.

The matte finish is really lovely and very smooth, and I was very impressed by how well it lasted throughout the day. I didn’t need to apply after eating lunch or drinking tea, and it didn’t flake or wear off badly either.

My lips did tend to feel a little dry towards the later part of the day so really you’d probably need a clear balm or something similar to apply over the lip colour when that starts to happen, if you suffer from very dry lips like I do.

In saying that, the dryness did only happen after a good few hours of wearing it, and definitely didn’t put me off, particularly because I just like the shade so much.

Who knew, hey? Brands continue to surprise me every day both in good and ways, but I’m happy to say that today I’ve been very surprised – in a good way!
