Simply Lippy Challenge Day 355 | Penneys PS… Super Matte Liquid Lipstick in Shade 02, Blush

After all the bronze tones I’ve worn over the past few days, I’ve been craving a bright, non-metallic lip, and today’s choice from Penneys was exactly that.

I’m not going to get into how impressed I’ve been with Penneys’ lipsticks this year; my regular readers will already know that I’m a big fan. However, I think today’s lipstick choice might just be one of my favourite shades of the year.

I love a coral lip, and the salmon coral tone of this lipstick is to die for. This is the kind of shade I would adore during the summer, especially if away on holidays. I just love a lippy that makes me feel summery!

The pigment as you can see, is bold and rich; it gives a full coverage finish to the lips and you get an amazing colour pay off from the second you apply it.

The formula is wet as most liquid mattes initially are, but it dries in quickly to leave a very dry, super matte finish that doesn’t budge off the lips. Believe me, the staying power with this is brilliant!

On the downside, because of the very good staying power, my lips did feel a bit dry towards the later part of the day, so I would recommend having a lip balm handy in case you suffer from dry lips like me.

Having said that, I liked the shade so much that the dryness won’t stop me wearing it again! I really loved it and can’t wait for Spring to arrive so I can wear it again.

Review: Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Candy Glow

A couple of months back, the lovely ladies in Debenhams Ireland sent me a voucher to spend in the beauty department and as you can imagine, I pretty much squealed with excitement when I received it! Apart from it being so incredibly generous, I knew exactly what I wanted to buy with it which made me even more excited.

You may recall, the first thing I bought was a Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipstick which I wore on Day of my Simply Lippy challenge, and fell totally in love with. And the second thing was this Sweethearts blush from Too Faced which I have been dying to try for so long now.

Apart from the super cute heart shaped packaging, over the last year or so, I’ve heard lots of great reports about this blush range, and as I’m a sucker for anything coral and dewy, I was so excited to finally get my hands on it and try it out.

I think the summer is always the best time to try a dewy blush and the best thing about this one is, there are three blush tones in one: a bright pink, a salmon coral and a kind of champagne shade which on its own looks like an incredible highlight shade.

When I first swatched each shade separately, I was a little concerned by how sheer they are but I really needn’t have worried because once you blend the shades with your brush and apply on to the cheeks, it gives the most gorgeous coral glow.

The blush is baked so you will find that it’s quite powdery when you first go to apply, but don’t panic, because the formula is incredibly light and blendable and has no fallout at all which I was very pleasantly surprised by. What’s more, the champagne shade gives an almost shimmer finish (without being glittery), which means you really don’t have to use a separate highlighter on top of the blush unless you specifically want to.

Another thing to note is that the pink shade is quite a cool tone which may not be to everyone’s taste. But, for me, once blended with the other shades I found it became much warmer and gave a warm flush of colour to my cheek bones in the only way a lovely blush can.

Overall I really loved both the finish and pigment, I have olive toned skin that is quite sallow, but I actually think the combined shades means this would be good on almost all skin tones.

I tend to go for blushes that have dewy or sheer finishes, mainly because I love anything that makes my skin glow, so maybe that’s why I love this so much. And though it doesn’t give an opaque coverage, the pigment is really lovely and can be easily layered to be worn lighter or darker depending on the time of day.

There’s nothing worse than when a product doesn’t live up to expectations, so I’m very happy that this didn’t let me down. Too Faced products aren’t the cheapest and this blush will set you back €29 so there are definitely cheaper options on the market that are just as good.

In saying that, the price point is in line with similar high end brands on the market and you get a lot for your money because a little will go a long way with this one. As always, make sure you swatch before you buy!

Too Faced products are available in Debenhams Ireland’s Henry St store or online.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 211 | Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Shade 110, Blush

The latest lipstick release from Rimmel is a liquid matte lip colour, following the trend that many beauty brands have followed over the past year or so. I don’t know if it’s a 90s style revival driving the release of so many matte lipsticks, but I am loving them and this new release is no exception.

Naturally when I read about this new collection I was excited to give them a try, and the first shade I tried was a peach toned nude shade which has a lovely pigment as I’ve come to expect from Rimmel lippies.

The colour pay off is excellent and just one layer of this will go a long way to giving your lips a matte look. While the colour itself is nice, I have to admit, I’m much more excited by the bolder shades which I have a feeling are going to be gorgeous.

The formula is wet when you first apply, and it does take a minute or two for it to try in like most liquid mattes. It’s not moisturising or hydrating, and if I was having a very bad dry lip day which I do get from time to time, I’m not sure that this would be the best lippy option as my lips did start to feel a little dryer as the day went on.

The reason I like liquid mattes is mostly because of how long they last on the lips and this one definitely has lasting power. It didn’t flake or crack throughout the day, and the colour really remaind true to the colour it was when I first applied it which I always like in a lipstick.

Given how nice the pigment is and how well it lasted, I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the collection and see how they compare. But for now, I’m pretty impressed overall and will happily wear it again.

Review: Urban Decay Afterglow 8 Hour Powder Blush in Score

For some reason even though I love Urban Decay as a brand, up until a few weeks ago I had never tried any of their blushers. And I really don’t know why.

A month or so ago when doing some beauty shopping, I wanted a new blush shade and decided to go look at the Urban Decay options as I’ve always heard great things about them. After looking through a few shades, I eventually settled on this one called Score, and it is just divine.

This is a powder blush, and the first thing I noticed was how finely milled the powder is. It is just so light, and a little goes a very long way because the pigment is so on point.

Of course, me being me, I opted for a coral shade which has a very slight shimmery glow to the finish as the name Afterglow suggests, and the light, creamy texture makes application just so frickin’ easy!

Sometimes with heavier blushes the powder can pull or drag your base foundation underneath, but that doesn’t happen at all with this blusher. It glides on so easily to the face, leaving a gorgeous soft glow to your cheekbones that stays put pretty damn well throughout the day.

One thing I’m really liking about it is the fact that because the powder is so fine, it makes this a really buildable formula so you can go very soft and light for daytime, or you can layer it giving a bolder cheek definition for night time. So it’s a win-win all round.

Blush on left cheek, no blush on right cheek

It’s no secret that I love Urban Decay as I mentioned above, but I’m pretty sure this blush has just become a new favourite.
Before blush on right cheek
After blush on right cheek

Now the one thing I will say is, it’s very similar to Benefit’s Coralista which some of you may remember, I reviewed last year (if you missed it you can catch it here).

Coralista is one of my all time favourite blush shades and one I’ve been wearing for years, but I think it may just have met its match with this.

While Coralista is a peachy-coral shade, Score is more of a pink-coral giving it a richer pigment and dare I say it – might make me love it just a little bit more than Coralista. Plus at €28, it’s cheaper than Coralista too.

I know, shock, horror! That is a big statement for me to make because nothing could touch Coralista for me for so many years, it’s just so perfect. But, there’s a new coral in town folks, and I’m loving it!

Review: Contour with Clarins | Face Contour Trio Palette

Back in February, I was invited along to the launch of Clarins’ Spring collection where they unveiled a gorgeous new face contour palette which I was very kindly given on the day to try out.

I know that’s a few months ago now, but as you may know if you’ve been following my blog posts, I had to take a few weeks away from blogging due to some personal reasons, and as a result, am only getting around to reviewing it now even though I’ve been using it a lot over the past few weeks.

Firstly, I want to say how impressed I’ve been lately by some of Clarins’ new launches. Their Valentine’s inspired blushers which I wrote about in February, were amazing and I haven’t stopped using them since. And that’s also true for this contour palette.

The shades in this palette are three very distinct shades, all for a particular purpose: to contour, sculpt and highlight. Sure, that’s what you would expect from any contour palette really, but what I particularly like about this one is, it’s got all your face prep in the one place.

The first shade is a very fine, soft cream shade which Clarins recommend using as a skin illuminator. I’m not sure that I really find it illuminating to be honest, but I am finding it great as a base finishing powder. Because it is so light, it gives gorgeous coverage over my foundation (I’ve tried it over both my Bourjois City Radiance and Armani Luminous Silk foundations) and it has been equally nice over both.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find face/finishing powders are too heavy over foundation and can give a kind of cakey look, but this doesn’t do that at all, and is very light and smooth to apply.

The second powder is the contour powder, which again is finely milled, but has an incredible pigment. One swatch of this gives very high impact and therefore you do have to be careful when applying not to make it too dark, because let’s be honest, that’s not a good look for anyone.

The other thing I’ve noticed with the contour shade is, you need to blend pretty quickly after application in order to get a light, even application. Initially, I used the small angled applicator brush that comes with the palette, but if I’m honest, I felt I got a better blend using my trusty MAC 129, small powder brush so therefore, I would recommend using a powder brush instead.

The last shade in the palette is the blush shade, and the star of the show in my opinion. I just love it! It is the most beautiful warm-toned, rose shade with a matte finish, that finishes off the face and contour look perfectly. Like the other two shades, it is light, maybe even slightly lighter than the others, and therefore blends like a dream once applied.

I’ve been wearing this shade a lot, and one thing I’m realising is that, between this and the Valentine’s inspired Skin Illusion Blush that I mentioned earlier; I am a big fan of Clarins blushers! They really have lovely pigment that isn’t too light or overpowering, and they give a lovely finishing pop of colour to the cheeks.

The palette isn’t cheap, it costs €45, so you’d have to really use each shade to get the value out of it. But in saying that, you get three really great powders in one, and you’d probably spend close to that, if not more, on each of these products separately, so because of that I think it’s good value.

Of course, it’s on the higher end price wise so it won’t be for everyone, but if you like Clarins, and you like investing in good powders, then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this.

What are your views on contouring? Are you in the yay or nay bracket?! I’m not massively into it I have to say, but I do like a bit of definition on my face so this is great for that.

Valentine’s Day Review: Clarins Skin Illusion Blush

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I hope you all have a lovely day whether you’re treating yourself or someone else is treating you. Either way, it’s a day for treats!

Speaking of treats, I have the perfect limited edition Valentine’s Day beauty buy courtesy of Clarins that I think you’re going to love!

Just in time for today, Clarins have launched the cutest blushes that I’ve seen in a long time. Apart from the gorgeously cute, rosemantic packaging which is a reason in itself to buy one (or all!) of these; they also come in three stunning shades:

Shade 01. Luminous Pink, a pale baby pink shade with a slightly cool undertone.

Shade 02. Luminous Coral, a very warm peachy coral shade, with the most perfect tone for this time of year

And finally; shade 03. Golden Havana, a rich bronze shade with incredible pigment and a slightly shimmer finish.

All of the blushes are sheer in finish, but Golden Havana to me, definitely has a more obvious sheen or shimmer to it than the others. Either way, they are all absolutely to die for!

Being a coral girl, Luminous Coral is naturally my favourite in the range, and I think I will wear this the most. In saying that, I’ll definitely be putting the others to good use too as they are just so pretty!

Each blusher retails at €20; they are small in size but the quality of Clarins products is so good that if you feel like a splurge this V-Day, then I definitely recommend splurging on these.

My Faves Part 6: Benefit CORALista Blush

Happy hump day guys, we’re half way through the week and the weather in Dublin is amazing. Knowing we were coming back from Ibiza to a heatwave made the end of our holiday all the more easier but more about Ibiza later…

Today as part of the ‘My Faves’ series, I’m talking all about Benefit’s CORALista blusher which I absolutely love. I mean like totally, utterly, completely love! It’s the perfect blush and has just the right amount of shimmer to give your cheek bones a sun-kissed glow coming into summer.

If you’ve read any of my beauty reviews or tutorial posts, you’ll most likely already know that I’m a big fan of this, but I felt it warranted its own dedicated post so here you go.

CORALista is a gorgeous peachy, coral shade blush with an incredible pigment. All Benefit blushers are fabulous really but this one is my favourite because honestly, I’m just a coral kind of girl. I’m so drawn to oranges, peaches, coral and reds in everything – makeup, lipstick, clothing, shoes… It’s just my colour! I’ve read that it’s because I’m a Leo in the Zodiac which means fiery colours suit me best but who knows!

Anyway I’m rambling, sorry. This blusher has great staying power and the cute brush that comes with it is perfect for application. Because of the high pigment you only need a small amount, and as you apply you’ll immediately notice your cheekbones becoming more pronounced and highlighted. This is the dream people!

I first discovered CORALista in one of Benefit’s fab travel sets a few years back called ‘Her name was Glowla‘, and those of you who have used it will know just how gorgeous this travel set is.

Because I’m just a little bit weird, I bought about four of these travel sets for holidays because they have the perfect combination of blush, eyeshadow, highlighter, mascara and lip gloss. What more could you want?!  I’m now down to my last travel set (sob) but that really doesn’t matter because CORALista is still one of Benefit’s best selling blushers and you can buy it on its own as I have for ages now.

It’s €34.00 and is available from any Benefit counter.

Hope you all have a shimmering summer!

My Faves Part 3: NARS Orgasm Blush

This week’s ‘My Faves’ product is the now infamous Orgasm Blush from NARS. This has been on the market for quite a few years now and is most definitely a cult favourite among beauty lovers and makeup artists alike.

I’ve been using this blush for so long, but I tend to take a break from it every so often. I hadn’t used it since last year and so last week,  I decided it was time to revisit this little old gem. Only when I went to look for it I realised I had none left which never happens to me. Ever! I usually always have one on hand at home for when I need it, so needless to say when I was makeup shopping over the weekend this was first on my list.

The Orgasm shade to me is the perfect blush shade. I would describe it as kind of a peachy pink and it has a gorgeous shimmer finish which gives a lovely glow to the cheek bones. The best thing about the pigment on this blush is that you can wear it very softly with just one light layer, or you can apply multiple layers for a stronger look, and the colour looks equally great with both.

The micronised powder, according to NARS, ensures a soft, blendable application and to be honest, I couldn’t agree more. One quick sweep of the brush and your cheeks are perfectly pink.

I’m sure many of you beauty lovers have used this over the years, it’s a staple product for any makeup bag and hence why it’s number three on my list of all-time favourite products.

If you’re not familiar with it however and fancy giving it a go, it costs €30 and I bought mine in Brown Thomas Dublin.
