Simply Lippy Challenge Day 37 | Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet Liquid Lipstick in Shade 301

Another Monday, another new week; and even though today was a very cold one in Dublin, I’m pretty sure it stayed bright just a little bit longer today. Okay, well maybe it didn’t, but in my eyes every day that passes now is a day closer to brighter evenings and longer days. Although I love Christmas, I’m really not a Winter girl, so now that February has arrived, I’m excited for Spring and all the loveliness that it brings.

And I guess that these Spring thoughts are what made me choose today’s lipstick; as I was dreaming of long bright days, I was also dreaming of vibrant colours and that’s exactly what today’s lippy of choice brings to the lips.

The Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet collection was one of 2016’s best beauty launches for so many reasons in my opinion: from the vibrant intense pigment and the long lasting colour, to the super soft, wearable finish; I really can’t fault these lippy’s at all. But I think one of the reasons I really love the range so much, is because of the absolutely gorgeous shades they come in, all 18 of them.

The Lip Magnet range was released back in September last year and I was lucky enough to receive today’s lippy at an Armani beauty launch event I attended at the time. The minute I started playing out with the lipsticks on the day, I knew I was going to love them and I’ve been totally and utterly hooked since. Not just because of the incredible colour they give the lips, but because when you apply, you don’t even feel like you’re wearing anything.

It’s the strangest thing: a mixture of both a water and oil based formulation means that the texture is very smooth and light-weight, and doesn’t dry out the lips at all the way some water based liquid lipsticks do. The formula is wet without being too wet, it doesn’t drag, and the drying time is very quick meaning you can layer it up easily without smudging or pulling the colour from the underlying layer. The pointed tip on the brush end makes application so easy and precise too.

This particular shade, 301, is a vibrant orange-coral shade, and is right up my street in terms of its colour pay off. I’m sure you all know by now how much I love orange/coral shades given my favourite ever lipstick in life is YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Le Orange. So it’s pretty safe to say I was going to love the colour regardless of texture or formula; but what makes this so great, is that I just love everything about it.

Now, this is a lip stain rather than a lipstick, so don’t expect it to be creamy or moisturising in texture if you do try it. I’m aware that lip stain’s aren’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but I find them brilliant for busy days when you’re running around and don’t have time to think about reapply your lipstick!

The only downside with this Lip Magnet is the hefty price tag which won’t be for everyone. At €33 it is on the expensive side, but is priced very competitively against other high end market options. So it is definitely good value for money in that sense, and for me it’s really worth splurging that bit extra for this because a little goes a very long way. Plus the packaging is just to die for too!

Armani for me, have always been pretty spot on with their beauty collections; there’s very little I’ve tried from the brand that I don’t like, and this lipstick range is another wonderful string to add to their ever growing beauty bow!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 32 | PS… Lip Duo Sheer Lipstick & Gloss in Shade Aura

Eeek, I’m very late getting today’s blog post up. You’ll have to forgive me, but I’ve just had one of those days where I haven’t had a second to do anything, hence my lateness. But, it’s up now and that’s the main thing, right?!

For today’s Simply Lippy lipstick choice, I opted for a lovely lip duo from the Penney’s PS… beauty collection which as you can tell from the title, is part lipstick, part gloss. I hadn’t tried this product before today, but loved the idea of getting two lippy’s in one – let’s be honest, who wouldn’t?!

The shade, Aura, is a soft neutral gold with little pigment and a very light finish. Given that it is a sheer lipstick however, I would expect the pigment to be light and almost gloss-like, so no surprises there. The best part about this product though, was getting to add a layer of gloss over the lipstick side in order to create a lovely sheer finish.

At first, I was a little apprehensive to try the gloss as it looked very glittery in the tube, but it didn’t have a glitter look or feel on application. I’m really not a glitter girl, I never really have been, so this was a very pleasant surprise. The gloss also has a soft, non-sticky formula that glides on the lips very smoothly and doesn’t pull or drag the lipstick underneath.

As Penney’s lipsticks go, I’ve been very impressed with the ones I’ve tried so far in the challenge: the matte long last lipstick from Day 13 is just gorgeous, and their liquid lipstick from Day 17 is one of my favourite liquid lippies I’ve ever tried! And although I do like this one, I wouldn’t say I love it, because I just don’t think it’s quite as good as its PS… predecessors.

Here’s a look at my lips both before gloss, and after gloss. What do you think? Do you like lip duo’s and would you try this one? Let me know by commenting below.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 9 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Russian Red

It’s Monday and it’s day nine of my Simply Lippy challenge. The days are flying by and I only have two weeks before I start my new job, eeek. The nerves are starting to build, I’m one of those people who gets super nervous about change, but thankfully my Simply Lippy challenge is keeping me distracted and focussed on the blog.

I didn’t sleep great last night and it took me a while to decide what lippy to go for today, but after some deliberation, I finally decided a wintery red was the answer. Russian Red, a matte red lipstick from MAC, is what I opted for and it captures my mood perfectly. It’s strong, a bit sultry and moody, and perfect for a cold winter day.

When I first bought Russian Red I was in two minds about it; it is a deep red with a blue undertone, which most beauty experts will tell you is better suited to fairer skin tones. Whether or not there’s truth in that for everyone I don’t know, but it generally is true for me.

As you will have seen from my red lip choices so far, I usually opt for reds with an orange, warm undertone, rather than a blue, cold undertone. I have sallow, olive toned skin and warmer shades have always been more flattering on me, hence my reservations about Russian Red. However, after wearing it for a while, it kind of grew on me and paired with a nude eye and strong lash, this red gives the perfect colour pop to the lips.

I do love MAC matte lipsticks, and while shade wise this wouldn’t be my favourite red, it has strong holding power and pigment. I don’t tend to wear this shade in Spring or Summer as it is very rich, but that’s just a matter of preference really.

What do you think about this shade? Are you a blue-red or an orange-red kind of gal?

The beauty of this challenge is that it’s allowing me to play around with all different shades and tones, some will work and some won’t, but that’s all part of the fun!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 3 | Rimmel Only 1 Matte Lippy in Trendsetter (700)

It’s day three of my Simply Lippy challenge and I’ve gone for an earthy nude shade from Rimmel. I’m still feeling a bit ‘meh’ with this damn cold so I wanted something subtle for today’s makeup look.

Back in October, Rimmel sent me some of their new Only 1 Matte lipsticks which claim to be creamy and non-drying, with a matte finish and good staying power. So naturally with claims like these, I was very excited to give them a try.

I like the Kate Moss range from Rimmel so I thought these might be good, but they are not just good, they are amazing! After trying them out for a few days, I couldn’t get over how good the colour pay off was or how well they lasted on my lips.

Even though I was really impressed, I wanted to put them to the test a bit more as I always try things thoroughly before recommending them here so I can give you an honest review. Anyway, to get a second opinion, I gave one to my bessie to try out and she is loving them as much as I am. In fact, I think she may even love them a little more! So all in all, I think Rimmel are on to a winner here.

The shade I’m wearing today, Shade 700, Trendsetter, is one of my favourites in the collection and I’ve been wearing it a lot over the past few weeks. I would describe is as a beige-nude, but with an earthy undertone. So in other words, even though it’s a nude, it still gives good colour and definition to your lips. And as you can see from the photos, it’s pretty warn down already so I’m pretty sure I’ll be repurchasing this!

If you missed my Day 2 challenge post you can catch up here, and don’t forget you can follow my journey on my social media pages or by searching for the #simplylippy and #365days365shades hashtags on InstagramTwitter and Facebook.

I hope those of you who are back to work today are surviving the post-Christmas blues and I’ll see you all tomorrow for Day 4.

10 Random Facts About Me

I was recently challenged to post ten random facts about myself over on Instagram by the lovely Jean at A Spoonful of Travel blog. I love these kinds of challenges, I recently heard them being referred to as ‘Pop Up’ challenges which I think is a great explanation, and they are a great way of getting to know your fellow bloggers.

At first I didn’t know what to write, it’s hard to think of ten things off hand but eventually I got there and thought why not share them with you all here too. So here it goes…

1 – I’m 32, Irish and living in Dublin

Most of you, if you’ve been reading my blog up to now, will know this already. I’m a Dublin girl born and bread, and there’s no better city in the world if you ask me! 🙂

2 – I recently got married and wish I was still planning my wedding

Oh to be wedding planning still… But yesterday I got to have a look at one of my wedding photos from our photographer for the first time and it has made me super excited to see the rest. I’ve written a full post on our wedding photography which I’ll be sharing with you all shortly too so watch this space.

3 – My favourite book is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Atticus Finch, need I say more? Other than if you haven’t already read this book, you are missing out on possibly one of the best books ever written in my opinion. This one is sure to go down in literary history.

4 – I work as an Internal Communications specialist for a large international company

My job is busy, challenging and can be stressful at times like most jobs, but I get to do one of the things I love most everyday which is writing. And I love that.

5 – I am hopeless romantic

Flowers, candles, poetry, chocolate, spontaneity, I love it all. The cheesier the better!

6 – My favorite drink is Champagne/Prosecco

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love bubbles. The fact that they are the least calorific drink in the wine family is a major bonus too!

7 – I love to travel and have visited over 20 countries across 5 continents

Travelling is one of my favourites. Although I’ve been lucky enough to travel to lots of different places, I still haven’t visited anywhere near as many countries in Europe as I’d like, I also want to travel all fifty states of America, see South East Asia and snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef.

At the beginning of 2016 I created a list of all the places I’d like to try and see this year so you can have a read of them here.

8 – I meditate regularly and practice mindfulness

As someone who has suffered with anxiety for many years, I have been searching to find something to help me cope when life becomes overwhelming for a long time now. I have always been interested in meditation and have seen first hand the positive impact it can have on people. So last year I began to embrace meditation and haven’t looked back since.

If you’re new to meditation there are some great books to help you get started. My Dad who has been meditating for many years now gave me a great book – Meditation Now or Never by Steve Hagen which I found so helpful at the beginning. There are also some great apps for guided meditation such as ZMeditations which is the one I’m currently using.

9 – I have a BA in Politics & Psychoanalysis, an MA in Politics and a Post Grad Dip in Public Relations & Event Management

I was one of those people who left school not really knowing what I wanted to do, I knew I wanted to write but didn’t know in what capacity. I went down the Politics route with the plan of becoming a journalist, but life works in funny ways and I ended up in Public Relations which later led to my current role in Internal Comms.

10 – My ultimate dream is to write a book

Even if I write it just for myself and it never gets published, I really want to write a book someday. My friend Zarah promised me many years ago she would be the first to buy it when I do so I haven’t forgotten that either!

So there you go…ten random facts about me.

The idea of this challenge is to nominate other bloggers which I’ve done over on my Instagram page if you’d like to check it out. Because of that I won’t nominate anyone specifically now, but I’m putting it out there in the blogosphere and if you decide to take the challenge on then please let me know. I’d love to read about all your random facts too!
