Simply Lippy Challenge Day 114 | Clarins Lip Comfort Oil in Shade 4, Candy

The Lip Comfort Oils from Clarins need absolutely no introduction in my opinion, and they are some of my favourite lip products that I’ve ever tried.

I discovered these lip oils for the first time last year when I picked up shade Raspberry on an airport trip, which I also wore on Day 12 of my challenge.

I was so impressed by both the formula and finish of the oil that I couldn’t wait to try out more shades in the range, so you can imagine my excitement when last week, Clarins announced a collection of new shades for Summer 2017.

I wore shade Red Berry on Day 62, and today, I tried out my third shade from the collection, one of the new shades, in a lovely pink colour called Candy.

The lovely people over at Clarins sent this to me to try out and I honestly can’t tell you how excited I was. I was so grateful to be sent it, but I can tell you one thing, I’ll definitely be purchasing some more shades myself because I really think they are worth the investment.

Although oil based, these lippies aren’t greasy and leave the most gorgeous glossy finish to your lips, without being sticky at all.

This soft pink shade gives a very slight tint, just enough to colour the lips, and the formula is just so soft and luxurious to wear. The consistency is thick meaning a little goes a long way, and the large brush head makes even the application process flawless too.

Once again, I have nothing but good things to say about these lip oils – the formula, consistency and finish are all so lovely. Plus they have really good staying power too without drying out the lips.

I love how soft they make my lips feel when I wear them and I will most definitely be wearing these for many years to come.

They are the perfect handbag accessory for a day when you want a natural hint of a tint, with a glossy high shine look.

Clarins – it’s love!

Happy 100 Simply Lippy Days… To Me!

Well, if you caught my Day 100 lippy post which I posted a little while ago, you will know that the big day has arrived. Yes, today I reached the 100 day mark of my 365 day Simply Lippy challenge and I’m so excited!

I’m not going to lie, there were days over the past three months or so, where I really hit a wall with the challenge and didn’t think I could keep going. It’s tough doing a daily challenge – I wake up in the morning, take product shots and makeup photos, go to work for ten or so hours, then come home, write my blog post, edit my photos, then share my posts online and on social media. It really is a full time job, on top of a full time job!

In saying all that, I honestly have really loved it, and though I had a brief moment of wanting to quit, I’ve decided to keep going and see if I can make the 365 day mark. I’m running very low on lipsticks, and I’ve a long way to go still, but where there’s a will, there’s a way as the old saying goes…

Over the past few days, I’ve been looking back at all my posts to-date, and I can’t believe how many shades, brands, and formula’s I’ve tried. From high end to budget, from matte to gloss, from liquid to cream; I’ve tried them all! But a lipstick lover’s job is never really done, and there are a lot more for me to try still.

Of course I’ve had some favourites, and some least favourites, but instead of sharing them here, I’m going to do a round up video of my first 100 days seen as I haven’t got around to doing that before now.

In the meantime, here’s a look back at all the shades I’ve worn over the past 100 days…

Review: Contour with Clarins | Face Contour Trio Palette

Back in February, I was invited along to the launch of Clarins’ Spring collection where they unveiled a gorgeous new face contour palette which I was very kindly given on the day to try out.

I know that’s a few months ago now, but as you may know if you’ve been following my blog posts, I had to take a few weeks away from blogging due to some personal reasons, and as a result, am only getting around to reviewing it now even though I’ve been using it a lot over the past few weeks.

Firstly, I want to say how impressed I’ve been lately by some of Clarins’ new launches. Their Valentine’s inspired blushers which I wrote about in February, were amazing and I haven’t stopped using them since. And that’s also true for this contour palette.

The shades in this palette are three very distinct shades, all for a particular purpose: to contour, sculpt and highlight. Sure, that’s what you would expect from any contour palette really, but what I particularly like about this one is, it’s got all your face prep in the one place.

The first shade is a very fine, soft cream shade which Clarins recommend using as a skin illuminator. I’m not sure that I really find it illuminating to be honest, but I am finding it great as a base finishing powder. Because it is so light, it gives gorgeous coverage over my foundation (I’ve tried it over both my Bourjois City Radiance and Armani Luminous Silk foundations) and it has been equally nice over both.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find face/finishing powders are too heavy over foundation and can give a kind of cakey look, but this doesn’t do that at all, and is very light and smooth to apply.

The second powder is the contour powder, which again is finely milled, but has an incredible pigment. One swatch of this gives very high impact and therefore you do have to be careful when applying not to make it too dark, because let’s be honest, that’s not a good look for anyone.

The other thing I’ve noticed with the contour shade is, you need to blend pretty quickly after application in order to get a light, even application. Initially, I used the small angled applicator brush that comes with the palette, but if I’m honest, I felt I got a better blend using my trusty MAC 129, small powder brush so therefore, I would recommend using a powder brush instead.

The last shade in the palette is the blush shade, and the star of the show in my opinion. I just love it! It is the most beautiful warm-toned, rose shade with a matte finish, that finishes off the face and contour look perfectly. Like the other two shades, it is light, maybe even slightly lighter than the others, and therefore blends like a dream once applied.

I’ve been wearing this shade a lot, and one thing I’m realising is that, between this and the Valentine’s inspired Skin Illusion Blush that I mentioned earlier; I am a big fan of Clarins blushers! They really have lovely pigment that isn’t too light or overpowering, and they give a lovely finishing pop of colour to the cheeks.

The palette isn’t cheap, it costs €45, so you’d have to really use each shade to get the value out of it. But in saying that, you get three really great powders in one, and you’d probably spend close to that, if not more, on each of these products separately, so because of that I think it’s good value.

Of course, it’s on the higher end price wise so it won’t be for everyone, but if you like Clarins, and you like investing in good powders, then I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this.

What are your views on contouring? Are you in the yay or nay bracket?! I’m not massively into it I have to say, but I do like a bit of definition on my face so this is great for that.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 74 | Clarins Lip Pencil in Shade 01, Nude Fair

Do you ever have one of those days where quite literally, everything goes wrong? Well, that was me today. It was just one of those days that I would love to punch in the face then have a good cry over. Not to be dramatic or anything of course…!

Anyway, because of that and because I’m just feeling a bit down, I’m going to switch off for the night and take some time out. But of course, before I do that, here’s a quick look at my lippy choice for today.

Today I opted for something different, and decided to wear a lip liner all over my lips because I liked the shade so much. The lip liner is a Clarins one, and the shade Nude Fair, is a lovely peach toned nude, which gives the lips a similar finish to good matte lipstick.

The lip liner itself is very creamy, and more like a lip crayon in texture, and I absolutely love that in a liner because it makes it very easy to both apply and blend. Plus, the colour stayed put pretty much all day long which is always a positive for me.

All in all I really like this, and definitely see myself wearing it again both as a liner and a lippy!

It’s now time for me to go have some R&R, so I’ll catch you all tomorrow for Day 75.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 62 | Clarins Lip Comfort Oil in Shade 3, Red Berry

Clarins Lip Oils are an absolute favourite lip product of mine, and have been for quite some time now. Last year I shared a post on the Rapberry shade, which I also wore on Day 12 of my Simply Lippy challenge, and today I tried out one of the other shades in the range.

If you caught either of those posts you will know that the reason I like these so much is because although they are oil based, they have a non-greasy formula and therefore are lovely to wear. They make your lips feel hydrated, plump and so smooth after just a few minutes, and have a thick, gloss finish with absolutely no stickiness at all.

Today’s shade, Red Berry, looks very rich and bold in the bottle, but because of the gloss finish, there is just a very slight tint on application which I love. There’s enough colour to give the lips definition, but still very much gives the feel of a neutral or nude lip finish.

It’s hard to describe how it feels to wear this because usually a thick formula wouldn’t necessarily be a good thing, but with this, it most definitely is. When you wear it, you know you’re wearing it if that makes sense?! It just feels so luxurious and soft on the lips, and I could honestly wear it over and over and over again. It’s that good!

Have you tried the Clarins lip oils? Or any other lip oils? I think they might be my new thing so if there’s any you think I should try then comment below and let me know.

Although it’s Friday, I’m absolutely shattered today so I’m looking forward to lots of sleep this weekend. Hope you all have a good one whatever you’re up to!

Valentine’s Day Review: Clarins Skin Illusion Blush

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I hope you all have a lovely day whether you’re treating yourself or someone else is treating you. Either way, it’s a day for treats!

Speaking of treats, I have the perfect limited edition Valentine’s Day beauty buy courtesy of Clarins that I think you’re going to love!

Just in time for today, Clarins have launched the cutest blushes that I’ve seen in a long time. Apart from the gorgeously cute, rosemantic packaging which is a reason in itself to buy one (or all!) of these; they also come in three stunning shades:

Shade 01. Luminous Pink, a pale baby pink shade with a slightly cool undertone.

Shade 02. Luminous Coral, a very warm peachy coral shade, with the most perfect tone for this time of year

And finally; shade 03. Golden Havana, a rich bronze shade with incredible pigment and a slightly shimmer finish.

All of the blushes are sheer in finish, but Golden Havana to me, definitely has a more obvious sheen or shimmer to it than the others. Either way, they are all absolutely to die for!

Being a coral girl, Luminous Coral is naturally my favourite in the range, and I think I will wear this the most. In saying that, I’ll definitely be putting the others to good use too as they are just so pretty!

Each blusher retails at €20; they are small in size but the quality of Clarins products is so good that if you feel like a splurge this V-Day, then I definitely recommend splurging on these.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 36 | Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant Lipstick in Shade 32, Pink Cranberry

Happy Sunday everyone! Can you believe the weekend is almost over already? It always goes so fast, especially when you’re busy running around doing things as I was today. But, the best thing about my weekends now, is getting to wear lipstick shades I wouldn’t wear to work.

Today’s lipstick is from Clarins, and is the most beautiful sheer lipstick I’ve worn in a long time. The shade, Pink Cranberry, is exactly what you expect it to be: a soft cranberry shade with a delicious berry scent. One of my favourite things ever in a lipstick is when the shade looks exactly the same on your lips as it does in the stick, so I really love that this Clarins lippy did that today.

The shade, from their Joli Rouge Brilliant range, is super hydrating on the lips and leaves a lovely intense shine on application. The soft texture makes it so easy to apply, and I absolutely loved it from the minute I put it on.

It’s not dissimilar in colour to the Hugs and Hibis-Kisses shade I wore from Catrice on Day 29 which I fell in love with; the only difference being that it was a creamy opaque lipstick and this is sheer. But, I’ve quickly fallen in love with this now too.

Sheer lipsticks wouldn’t usually be my go-to, but I was so impressed with this lippy today. At the beginning of my challenge I didn’t think I would discover so many new lipsticks that I’d end up liking so much, but today made me realised just how many amazing lip products are out there waiting to be discovered!

If you don’t like a sheer finish then this won’t be for you, but if you don’t mind about finish and want good quality, then this gets top marks from me.

If you’re enjoying my challenge so far, I’d really love for you to please come follow me over on social media too. I post pretty pictures on Instagram, chat all things beauty releases and favourites on Twitter, and share weekly lipstick videos on Facebook. And I’ve got my very own challenge hashtags as well – #simplylippy and #365days365shades, so you can follow my journey by searching for those as well.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 12 | Clarins Lip Oil in Shade 2, Raspberry

I don’t know about you but I’m constantly freezing at the moment. The weather in Dublin took a turn over the past few days and it’s bitterly cold outside. Unfortunately for me, that always means I’m going to have to up my hydration game when it comes to my lips as they become very dry and sore in cold weather.

Apart from it being time to use some of my natural lip scrub (you can find the recipe here), for today’s Simply Lippy lipstick choice I knew I had to pick something that was soft, hydrating and moisturising on my lips in order to help improve them, and prevent them from becoming any worse. And that’s where the Clarins Lip Oil comes in.

I first tried this lip oil last Summer (if you missed my review post can catch up here), and I was really impressed by its hydrating and non-greasy formula, that leaves your lips feeling very soft and smooth. The formula is usually a little more clear than this, but I’ve used my one a lot hence why it’s looking a bit cloudy!

This shade, Raspberry, has just the very slightest hint of a tint, but enough to give your lips a colour lift whilst still giving the look of a neutral, clear gloss. And although the finish is glossy as I just mentioned, it somehow manages to be non-sticky and long lasting both at the same time. Hence why this became a firm favourite after I first discovered it back in July.

You can probably tell from the photos that my lips aren’t looking their best, but the difference between the before and after photos I think is pretty great. The lip oil manages to disguise my dryness and red patches, and is helping them heal in the process.

Of all the lip products I’ve written about so far, I think this might just be the one most worth having in your makeup bag (apart from YSL Rouge Pur Couture of course!).

Makeup Masterclass & Beauty Tips with Clarins

On Wednesday evening as some of you may know if you follow me on social media, I was invited to a beauty or makeup masterclass with Clarins’ international training manager, Simone Colombo. As I hadn’t been to a Clarins event before, I was super excited to go along and see what the masterclass had to offer.

Simone Colombo is what one can only describe as an artist. He worked on two makeup looks, a soft natural day time look, which later was given sweep of eyeliner and a dust of smokey shadow to create a more dramatic night time look. Both of which were truly flawless and beautiful. It probably helped that the model had the most amazing skin I’d ever seen too!

Anyway, I’m not a beauty or makeup professional, I don’t know everything there is to know about what you should or shouldn’t do when it comes to skincare and makeup, but I do love beauty, I love applying and wearing makeup, and I know what I like and don’t like. However, the bit that I do know, I’ve picked up from watching makeup artists at work over the years, asking questions and getting good tips, and Wednesday’s event was another chance to learn.

While I’m pretty good with the basics, there were one or two gems of wisdom that Simone shared. Here’s what stood out for me:

  • Don’t rub your moisturiser or primer on the face. Instead, pat it into the skin using the palms of your hands. This will allow it to absorb better into the skin and you won’t need as much product either.
  • Start applying your foundation from the centre of the face (around the nose and cheeks) and work your way outwards to get an even application.
  • To create the perfect line of eyeliner, use an eyeliner pencil on the outer corner of the lower lid and draw a line outwards towards the brow before applying to the upper lid. This will give you the perfect line from which to then apply liner on your eyelid.
  • Use both pencil and liquid eyeliner for a more dramatic look.

Whether you love makeup or not, I think these tips will definitely come in handy every now and then, so that’s why I wanted to share them with you all. I love events like these because there is always something more to learn, and the more you can learn about the things you love, the better. Well I think so anyway!

I’ll definitely be putting some of them to the test this weekend and hopefully you can now too.

Happy Friday!

Subtle Eyes with Clarins Iris Blossom Mineral Eyeshadow Palette

This evening I’m off to an event with the lovely people from Clarins, and it got me thinking about all the gorgeous Clarins products I have that I don’t use anywhere near enough. So given the day that’s in it, I decided to route out one of their mineral eyeshadow palettes to create a soft day eye look for the event.

The Iris Blossom mineral palette came out about three years ago now and has gorgeous earthy shades in both shimmer and matte. The shimmer shades are a sparkly white, a golden brown and bright purple, while the only matte shade in the palette is a deep charcoal. Because it’s a day look I’m going for, I opted to use only a very small amount of charcoal and purple, focussing on the brown for base and white to highlight.

Here’s how I applied it…

I coated my eyelid with brown all over and blended into the lid well before adding a touch of charcoal and purple into the crease. Once applied, I used a blending brush to buff out the shadow and give the eye an accent of colour at the crease. To finish, I added a small amount of white to the inner corner of each eye to highlight and brighten the area.

In order to keep the look soft, I opted not to wear eyeliner so I just finished it off by adding mascara to both my upper and lower lashes and, voila! A simple and very quick eye makeup look in less than five minutes.

For one last little Clarins touch, I applied some of my Raspberry lip oil to my lips which I am just totally obsessed with at the minute (if you missed my review you can catch it here). It gives the lips a lovely soft glossy look with no stickiness and smells divine too!

I’ll keep you all posted on how the event goes later in the week. In the meantime, I’ll just wish you all a happy hump day! Hope you’re having a good one.
