I know this post may seem a little late to some of you given that it’s about sandals and we are well and truly into Autumn now. But let me explain why. This Summer was all about the Pom Pom sandal, if you were going anywhere sunny they were a must have accessory, but I only managed to get my hands on a pair recently, hence my delay.
I’ve been very lucky this year to have been on some great trips, but as many of you know, my biggest trip of all is coming up in just a few week’s time and therefore I have spent the last two months or so trying to get my hands on the perfect pair of Pom Pom sandals for my trip. Finally I found them!
Back in June I spotted this very cute, colourful pair in River Island and loved them, but when I went to buy them they were sold out everywhere in my size. All over Ireland in stores and online – I even tried the UK stores but nothing. Nada. So reluctantly I had to admit defeat, believe it was not meant to be, and start looking elsewhere. But much to my dismay, none of the ones I could find were anywhere near as nice as these, or if they were, they were WAY out of my price range. Don’t you just hate when that happens?
I had all but given up until a few weeks back, when I decided to do one last search, a final desperate attempt to fill a longing, when low and behold out of nowhere, they appeared back on the River Island website. What?! I don’t know how it happened, maybe they had extra stock lying around somewhere, or the Pom Pom gods were just being extra kind that day, who frickin’ knows. But all I know is I bought them, they arrived, and I am thrilled!
They are just so gorgeous, super comfortable, and I can’t wait to start pairing them with all my travelling outfits as soon as we get to Bali. I just love it when a plan comes together!
I don’t usually share posts like this, but last week I finally got my hands on the most amazing pair of Tom Ford sunglasses which I have been lusting after for over six months now, and I’m just so excited that I’ve decided to tell you all about them.
I’ve wanted to buy a new pair of good sunglasses for a while now, my trusty RayBan’s as much as I love them, are a bit worse for wear, and before they give out on me I thought it best to buy some more.
The sunglasses I got are the Tom Ford Irina’s and they are literally to die for (squeal!) – I just love them. I don’t know about you but I have to try sunglasses on a million times before committing, you know, see how they look with my hair down, my hair tied up, how they feel, all the usual things you consider when buying a pair of sunglasses. And these babies were the first pair I came across that I liked every which way.
One sunny afternoon about two months ago I finally made the decision to splurge and buy them, so off I went into town super excited. But low and behold as I went to pick them up from the shelf they were gone. Gone, vanished, disappeared. I was devastated.
After a frantic conversation with the girl at the counter I discovered that they had only received a limited amount of stock so were sold out, and not only that, but also there was a waiting list for the next delivery, and they didn’t even know when the next delivery was going to arrive because Tom Ford also had a waiting list. Big. Fat. Disaster.
So all Summer I searched for another pair, none quite living up to the expectations I had, leaving me pining for my beautiful Tom Ford’s that got away. That was of course, until last week. Last week when I finally got the call from Brown Thomas to say delivery had been confirmed and they would be back in stock the following day, AND there was a pair available for me. FOR ME. Hallelujah! Thank you sunglasses gods!
Now I know some of you may think this is ridiculous nonsense, getting excited about a pair of sunglasses. And I understand. But I told you, I’m an accessories girl. And you want to know why? Because they fit, they always fit.
I’ve had a turbulent relationship with clothes and fashion all my life, I’ve a curvy shape, new season trends look completely ridiculous on me half the time, and therefore it’s not always easy for me to shop. But I love to shop, and that’s why I love accessories. They absolutely never make me feel bad about myself.
They are just so pretty that I’ve decided to keep them safe until we head off on our travels next month. The first item I can tick off my packing list!
If you’re any way into fashion you may have noticed the biggest 90s fashion revival yet has begun to hit stores over the past few weeks. I never thought I’d see the day where I was thinking of purchasing one of these again but I should have really known better!
Everything in fashion comes back into vogue at one point or another, and thankfully this is one 90’s trend revival I think I can jump on board with. And no I’m not talking about the choker, I’m talking about the backpack!
Some of you may already know that in less than six weeks, Dave and I are jumping on a plane and beginning a two month trip around the world. Because of that, I need to get myself a good backpack so this trend has come back right on time for me.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on what style, size and colour backpack to get over the past couple of weeks, there are a lot to choose from let me tell you! And because of that, I decided to share my top finds with you all in case you’re on the lookout for a cute backpack for Autumn too.
Here are eight of my top choices currently available both in store and online:
I’m currently torn between the River Island laser cut mini backpack and the Whistles mini verity option. There obviously is a big price difference but I like the mini size of both. I think mini is definitely the best option for me because the last thing I want is to feel like a teenager again with my schoolbag on my back!
I think I’ll have to mull it over for another while but I’ll keep you posted on what option I go for. I have a thing for the silver metallic Whistles one too but in the interests of travelling practicality, I sadly think I’ll have to pass on that one.
What do you think of the backpack trend, are you going to embrace it this Autumn?
If you’re like me then you’ll love picking up a bargain or two in the Summer sales. I find it so hard to resist having a nosey around the shops at this time of year, especially when I want to invest in a few statement items. However, I’m really not one for trawling through sales racks so once the sales start, it’s online shopping time for me.
I love a good sale for picking up some staple wardrobe items, or a few statement or designer pieces that might otherwise have been out of my price range. If you get in early enough, there are some real gems to be found. For example, I recently bought a pair of Prada white leather trainers that were reduced by 50% in Brown Thomas, and while I normally wouldn’t have paid that kind of money for a pair of trainers, the half price tag meant I didn’t have to think twice!
A good bargain literally fills me with glee and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one this happens to. So in the interest of spreading some bargain buy love, I’ve picked out my Top Ten Picks from this year’s summer sales to share with you all. What’s even better? You can buy them all online!
So there you go, my favourite bargains from this year’s summer sales that are still available to buy. What are you waiting for?!
So those of you who’ve read any of my travel posts on our trip to Rome last week, will already know how much I loved it. It’s definitely become one of my favourite places and I’m already excited for the day that I can return, whenever that may be.
I love a good city break and usually tend to do city breaks in the Autumn or Spring so that the weather isn’t too hot and uncomfortable for sightseeing in the midday heat. But this time we decided to shake things up a bit, and booked our trip to Rome for Summer.
For those of you who don’t know, Rome in summer is scorching hot. We arrived to 29 degree heat and it was just gorgeous. Don’t you just love that feeling of heat on your face as you look up to the sky when you’re away somewhere warm?! I do. But with hot, sunny days also comes the obstacle of what outfits to wear that can allow you be tourists without sweating ridiculously and losing any sense of style you might otherwise have had.
Now while I’m not the world’s most stylish fashionista, I love clothes, I love shoes and I love accessories, like most girls do. I know what I like, I think I have fairly okay taste, and I’m a sucker for a mix of high street and designer pieces that can lift an outfit to another level. But let’s be real here, I’m no Kate Moss!
But getting back to Rome… I wanted to make sure I could do everything I wanted to do in the heat, while keeping a little bit of style in the mix too so I deliberated long and hard about what to bring with me to wear. I planned each outfit meticulously, and I’m happy to say although it was roasting, I think my outfits worked out pretty well…
Day to night look – This look was the perfect day to night outfit for a big city like Rome where you spend the day sightseeing but stop off in cafes along the way for a glass of wine and bite to eat. In the evenings it got a bit chilly so my trusty denim shirt was the perfect accompaniment to this maxi dress.
Ancient Adventures – I got this dress last Summer and it’s just so comfortable to wear. It’s cotton and very lightweight so was just what I needed for a day wandering around the Colosseum and Roman Forum in 28 degree heat.
Strapless Sundays – The Sunday of our trip was the hottest by far, the sun was splitting the stones and it was a roasting 30 degrees. To avoid getting tan lines I opted for this old strapless black top and paired it with these super baggy, printed hareem pants.
Dinner Date – I opted for casual dinner outfits, I would usually dress up more and at least put on a pair of heels when going out for dinner on holiday, but as you walk everywhere in Rome I decided to go for comfort over height! I got this stripy skirt in New York a few years ago and it’s become one of my favourite travel accessories. It’s so easy to wear and works both dressed up and dressed down.
Maxi Monday – For our last day I opted for this cute maxi skirt which some of you may have seen me wear in Ibiza. For this look, I paired it with a casual t-shirt, making it very lightweight and perfect for wandering the beautiful cobble streets while slurping a gelato!
Gladiators in the home of the Gladiators – I don’t think any Summer trip to Rome would be complete without a pair of Gladiator sandals. The one thing I definitely recommend for sightseeing in the heat is to wear very light, but comfortable shoes. On the first day I wore leather runners and it was so warm that I ended up getting blisters on my feet. So for the rest of the trip it was sandals all the way.
If you’re going off adventuring anywhere warm this summer and you won’t be spending your time lying by a beach or pool, then maybe these outfits will give you a little inspiration on what to wear for your adventures…
My next trip away for our Year of the Holiday is to Spain with some of our close friends next month. So I better go start planning those outfits now!
I know I may have mentioned it once or twice already but, I’m off to Ibiza on Thursday, yippeee! As you can tell I’m very excited, mainly because I’ve never been to Ibiza before, but also because I can’t wait for a bit of sunshine and to spend a few days away with my siblings. It’s been forever since we’ve done something like this so I’m really looking forward to it.
Anyway, if you read my post on Boho Holiday Outfits last week, you’ll know that the theme for the weekend is Boho Chic. Why a theme I hear you ask?! Well one of my sisters is celebrating her birthday over there so we’ve got lots of great events and parties lined up which in turn means lots of great outfits have to be planned.
My outfits are slowly starting to come together, thankfully made easier by the fact that there are just such great things in the shops at the moment. From accessories, to sandals, to dresses, even to fab holiday makeup, I had to drag myself away from so many things I wanted to buy.
That’s not to say that I won’t buy them at some stage though, every girl needs a wish list in my opinion so here’s a look at what’s on my summer wish list, and my Top 12 Holiday Buys for this summer…
So there you go, just some of the things I’m lusting after this holiday season. Now all I need is to get bikini ready so I can wear and buy them. While that’s not going to happen for my Ibiza trip given it’s only two days away, I’m keeping them on my list for a holiday coming up later in the year.
Also, if you’re a complete social media addict like me then you might be interested in this fab Ban.do back up phone charger I recently bought from one of my favourite online shops, Hippenings.com. It’s the perfect summer accessory if you plan on being snap-happy on holiday just like me!
This day next week I’m heading off to Ibiza for five days for my sisters birthday. I’ve never been to Ibiza before so naturally I’m very excited, and the fact that we’re going with my siblings, partners and friends makes it all the more exciting.
There will be lots of events going on over the weekend from sunset drinks to pool parties, to dancing the night away so I’ll need lots of nice outfits to wear but I’ve yet to decide on what they are going to be.
When I began my holiday shopping a few weeks back, summer maxi dresses, florals and Boho vibes greeted me in almost every store which was perfect as the theme for our party weekend is Boho Chic. The only problem is, I’m not exactly what you would call bikini ready. I’ve got a good bit of weight to lose, and although that’s the story of my life, I’m so tired of walking into my favourite shops and walking back out empty handed because nothing fits me properly.
I know I’m not the only one that struggles with my weight, it’s like a never-ending up hill battle, and if I’m honest, I’m dreading wearing scantly clad clothing and showing off my arms and legs. But I’m going to try put all of that to the back of my mind and embrace some of the boho vibes on trend for this summer.
As I’m not too sure where to start with my outfits, I’ve turned to Pinterest as I so often do, for some holiday inspiration. I’ve created a Boho mood board to help me decide what kind of looks I want to go with and this is what I’ve come up with…
Now I have the inspiration – if only I had their bodies too! 🙂
