Hello Friends, It’s Been A While…

I haven’t written a personal post like this for quite some time now, between my Simply Lippy challenge and other things going on, general blogging has had to take a bit of a back seat over the past few months.

Apart from working full time and trying to fit in blogging in the evenings after work and over my weekends, for the past few months I’ve had something else going on – something that’s kept me, distracted let’s say.

I’ve been thinking about whether or not to share this online with the world, and all you lovely readers, as I’ve been a bit nervous about putting it ‘out there’. But you may have noticed that on Sunday I posted my first non-Simply Lippy related post in a long time. Until Sunday, I hadn’t done a beauty review post since back in May and I wanted to tell you all why.

The reason I’ve been a little MIA is because… Dave and I are expecting a new little addition to the family! That’s right, I’m pregnant. Eeek!

We are very excited but it’s been a tough few months of sickness and tiredness as many of you Mum’s and pregnant ladies will know all about. So needless to say, it’s been hard trying to keep up with my lipstick challenge, let alone doing any other blogging for the past while.

I’ve somehow managed to keep Simply Lippy going, believe me there have been days where I’ve wanted to pack it all in while my head was stuck over the toilet bowl! But in the end, I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t power through and now, I am at Day 248. I don’t know how I got here, but I did, and I’m so glad I did.

My regular followers may have noticed that my posts have been a day or two late here and there because really, I just haven’t been able to write some days – and my bed has been a lot more appealing! But, I kept it up, every day of this year so far, I’ve worn a different lipstick, photographed it and shared the journey with you all.

I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant and thankfully the dreaded sickness is starting to pass and I’m beginning to feel more like myself again. Now that I’m getting back to normal, I’m very excited to get back to my blogging especially as I have so many beautiful products that I’ve been using that I’ve dying to tell you all about.

With so much going on, I don’t know that I’ll have as much time for social media as well as writing, but I’m going to give it all my best and hope that you’ll all join me on this new adventure I’m going on. No doubt there will be lots of pregnancy related beauty posts coming too, mostly because my skin has been a mess for the last few months, and that alone has taken some adjusting too.

But it’s all a happy learning curve and I’ve lots more to learn still, so if you’re a mummy or are currently pregnant then please send all tips and advice my way!

Thanks for sticking with me, I hope you’ve been enjoying my lipstick challenge, and I promise to have lots more beauty blog posts coming again soon.

Saturday Vibes

This weekend we’re having a quiet weekend relaxing, catching up with friends, going for walks, having early nights… All the things you long for in a weekend when you’ve had a busy few weeks.

But weekends like this are also for me, a chance to reflect. When I’m relaxed my mind wanders to all the possibilities, adventures, travels, experiences yet to come and how much of life we’ve still to live.

Does anyone else have moments like this? Moments when you realise how incredible life actually is?!

Maybe it’s because personally I’m going through a transition period with my job which is making me reevaluate what I want to do with my life, or maybe it’s that I’m just a dreamer imagining all the possibilities ahead. Who knows.
What I do know however is that life is to be lived, the good, bad, happy and sad… It is to be enjoyed, to be relished, to be grabbed with both arms and cherished.

Today I’m relishing life and enjoying all the incredible people, things and places around me. Today I am grateful.

Fridaygram

Happy Friday everyone!

We made it, we got through the week… Sing hallelujah, sing it! (Some of you may know I tend to break out in song every now and then, so feel free to join in and sing along, or feel free to ignore!). I have to say, there was a point or two this week where I really couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel, it was a tough week but I got here.

What’s more, I have a day off work today to go to a charity lunch with some of my friends. So what better way to start the weekend?!

If you’ve been keeping an eye on the blog, you’ll see that I posted a couple of reviews this week, I’ve been busy testing out some products all while recovering from the madness and fun that was my dear friend Lucy’s hen party last weekend.

As usual, I’ve shared it all on my Instagram, but in case you missed it, then here’s a look back at what I got up to this week:

Friday

One of my favourite things to do is to while away an hour or two on Pinterest looking up quotes, photos and pretty pictures, and while doing just that last week, I came across this. I feel it conveys exactly just how I feel about Fridays, wouldn’t you agree?!

Saturday

As mentioned above, last Saturday we danced the day and night away at my friend Lucy’s hen party. Lucy is a big WHAM fan, so the theme was Club Tropicana. This is a photo of me and one of my besties, Fiona. We donned our summer outfits, and loving a good prop, did not take our Hawaiian lei or oversized sunglasses off for the entire night.

Sunday

As I was nursing a hangover, the most I could share on Sunday was this picture of my nails because I just love this colour. It is CND Shellac in Decadence, and I got them done in my favourite salon, Mimi’s Beauty Room in Sandymount, Dublin. The girls are just the best in the business, and recently won Best Beautician’s at the IMAGE Magazine Business of Beauty (BOB) awards. If you’re a Dubliner you should definitely go check them out.

Monday
I took this snap of some of the products I’ve currently been using and putting to the test to give you all a sneak preview on what I’m up to. The palette is Catrice’s new Sand Nude palette and I’ll be posting a review on it soon so watch this space if you’re interested in seeing what it’s like.

Tuesday
This print from my friend Julie’s wedding the other week is so cute, I just love it. Great detail inspiration for anyone planning a wedding currently.
I also shared this picture of my owl slouchy socks. I think they are so cute, and look, it was just one of those days that called for socks, the couch and some trashy TV!

Wednesday

I had a bit of a bad day on Wednesday, well all week was a bit of a bad week. I’ve been feeling down, stressed and a bit overwhelmed. In times like this my mind tends to wander, I suppose it’s a form of escapism really. And this week my mind wandered to travel, and adventure, and wanting a little bit more out of life. This picture represents that desire.

I also shared this photo of my charcoal smokey eye which is the makeup look I created for the wedding last week. Using my current favourite eyeshadow palette, the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani palette, I used soft greys and browns to create the look.

Thursday
I have got the dreamers disease… Yes, yes I do. I shared this picture that I made using Word Swag, one of my favourite apps because it resonates with me on so many levels. I’ve always been a dreamer, and a romantic, and often tend to get lost in my dreaming.
I also shared this picture of Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream. My review went live yesterday morning so if you haven’t already checked it out then you can have a read here.

Today

Before I get ready to go to the Charity Lunch that I’m off to today, I have a few bits to do. These TOMS flats are so comfortable and a great casual flat option for when you’re on the go. The sun also made an appearance this morning which is always a bonus!

So on that note, I’ll leave you for the day and hope you all have a great weekend. Don’t forget to come follow me on Instagram if you’re not already.

Life Is An Awfully Big Adventure

Yesterday I found my mind drifting, dreaming of sunnier places, new adventures and well, a whole lot more than the mundane ins and outs of every day life. Is it just me, or does anyone else go through times like this?

What I’m beginning to learn about myself is that in times of stress, my initial instinct is just to get away from it all. Anyone can tell you that’s the classic fight or flee reaction that your body has to stress, we all experience it at some point, but for me I think it’s just a little bit more than that.

I often wonder what more life has to offer. And this is not a new development, I have thought like this for as long as I can remember. It’s why I’m so drawn to meditation and positivity and books like The Secret which tell us that there is so much more. I’ve always been searching for more.

Maybe that’s partly the reason Dave and I are going to spend as much of this year as possible travelling to new places, seeing new things, going on new adventures. I have this urge to escape, and experience, and relish, and soak up all the wonderful things the world has to offer.Life is serious so much of the time and I’m at that point where I’m thinking about really settling down. I have a great life, an incredible family, amazing friends, and a wonderful hubby. And I am so grateful for them all, I’d love to take them all on adventures with me!

In so many ways adventure means getting away and doing something new, but when I think about it, really think about it, isn’t all of life just one big adventure? Adventure is found in a variety of experiences; it is travel, it is new and strange places, but it is also wild nights out and cosy nights in, it is change, it is challenges, it is joyous occasions, events and happenings, it is sadness and loss, it is small victories and big; it is life.

Maybe it’s just the grey skies and dull weather making me get lost in my thoughts, maybe it’s just that I’m tired.

Either way, I’m learning that no matter what age I am or what stage of life I’m at, I will always long for adventure, travel and discovery. And I will always make time to search for, and find more.

And maybe that’s not a bad thing.

Fridaygram

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve shared my Fridaygram with you, things have been hectic with my day job and blogging has unfortunately taken a little bit of a back seat. But as I said earlier this week, I’m back in the swing of things now and promise to keep the blog posts coming.

While things have been busy in work, they’ve also been busy socially too. I had a friend’s wedding, a trip away, a flu, and lots of other bits and pieces going on. As always however, I’ve been snapping away and sharing lots of pictures over on my Instagram, so I’ve put a selection of them together for today’s Fridaygram post.

Friday 4th March

In December we went to the Maldives on our honeymoon and it was the most incredible holiday I’ve ever been on. The weather has been pretty miserable this March so throwback photos to holidays keep me going!

Saturday 5th March

I got a hair chop, there’s nothing like a bit of me time in the hairdressers so I try to go as often as possible. I love the soft curl my new layers give my hair, though it never looks as good when I blow dry it!

Wednesday 9th March

I absolutely love Essie nail polishes, they are my favourite of all the brands as they don’t chip too quickly on my nails. Going to get my nails done is one of my absolute favourite things to do and picking my polish colour is always the most fun part. So much choice, so few nails!

I also spotted these beauties when I was out shopping a few weeks ago, sadly I didn’t purchase but they’ve been added to my wish list.

Sunday 13th March

This was the weekend of my friend Nikki’s wedding in Sheen Falls Lodge in Kerry. On the Sunday I shared a snap of my hair and makeup look for the wedding from the lovely Dearbhla Keenan and Roy Leigh in Brown Sugar. What a great weekend it was.

Friday 18th March

The lovely people over at Catrice Cosmetics sent me some of their SS16 makeup collection to try out. I’m currently testing them out and will be sharing a blog post on my favourite bits from the collection shortly so if you’re a fan of Catrice then watch this space.

Tuesday 22nd March

As I mentioned earlier, I had an awful flu last week so I tried to eat as much berries and healthy foods as possible to detox and boost my immune system. Also, because I just love berries, especially coming into summer.

Thursday 24th March

The day we jetted off to Paris, yay! No weekend break away would be complete without an airport selfie so of course I just had to share one with my glass of vino.

Sunday 27th March

I’ve wanted to go to the Love Lock bridge in Paris for so many years, and I finally got there last weekend. I’ll be sharing a full Paris post on the blog next week with a run down on what we did so you can read all about it then.

Thursday 30th March

If you read my review on the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani eyeshadow palette you’ll have seen this pic already, but this is the makeup look I created using my favourite shade from the palette, Punk.

Today!

It’s a horrible morning in Dublin, it’s raining, it’s grey, it’s depressing. So today I shared this Aloha Friday picture, to cheer myself up and imagine I’m somewhere sunny sipping on a cocktail.

So there you go. I’ll be back to posting this regularly every Friday from next week. Don’t forget, if you’re not already following me on Instagram, then please come say hi and follow what I’m up to over there.

Happy Friday!

Why I Love Being a Woman

Given that yesterday was International Women’s Day, it got me thinking about all the things I love about being a woman. Like I said in my post yesterday, we’re pretty great really and it’s so important that we recognise and celebrate each other.

I’m your typical girly girl, I love beauty and shopping, I love long boozy lunches with the girls and a good gossip. But I’m also someone who has worked hard to get a great education, forge out a path for myself and get good job. I’m outgoing and inquisitive, talkative and curious, understanding and challenging. I’m open and honest, I’m strong minded and sensitive. This is probably the thing I love most about us women, namely that we can be many things, all at the same time.

I love that I am part of a group of people who stand up for what they believe in, who fight to make their mark on the world. I love that I come from a family of strong women and learned a great work ethic from my Mother and Grand Mother. I love that I can talk Politics and celeb gossip in equal amounts. I love that I can work hard everyday to contribute something to the economy and forge out a path for myself. I love that I can experiment with makeup, and get excited about shoes and handbags. I love that nice clothes and pretty things make me happy. I love that I can dance around my bedroom to cheesy 80s music and not take life too seriously. I love that I can hopefully have children one day and raise strong women. I love that I can be married and have a career at the same time. I love that I can be me.

In many respects we are women still living in a man’s world. We’re still fighting for equal pay, we’re still fighting to have both careers and families. But the tides are changing, it’s slow, but it’s changing.

So ladies today I raise a glass to you, and all the women out there that have paved the way for me. Let’s continue to pave the way for all the wonderful women to come.

It’s all about standing together.

Here are just some of the strong women who I love and admire…

Fridaygram

It’s Friday and that’s the best day of the week in my view. I’m very excited about the weekend ahead. My sister, who just got engaged (squeal) is coming home for the weekend and we are going to celebrate, big time! But before I close out the week, I’ve decided to share my week in review from Instagram.

I’m thinking of doing this every Friday from now on so please let me know your thoughts and whether you enjoy seeing my pictures. I am by no means the best photographer in the world, but I love pretty pictures, and am completely obsessed with Instagram. Oh, and if you want to come follow me there (please do), you can do so by clicking here.

Anyway here’s a look back over my Instagram week…

Saturday

If you read my review on the new restaurant Angelina’s yesterday, you’ll know that this is where I spent a lot of my evening and night last Saturday. Chatting with the girls, eating delicious food and sipping on prosecco. What more could a girl ask for?!

Sunday

Given said evening and night of alcohol on Saturday, Sunday was spent mostly in bed, in my pyjamas, blogging, reading and Pinterest pinning. This was a good day.

Monday

A little Monday Motivation goes a long way, and I came across this cute picture on Pinterest so had to share it. Coffee is definitely what we all need to get us through Monday!

It was also a freezing cold day on Monday, but dreaming of warmer days I donned my ballerina pumps with my skinny jeans.

Tuesday

I love playing around with makeup as you may already know, so on Tuesday I shared one of my favourite makeup looks, a golden smokey eye paired with one of my go-to lipstick shades, Dark Side from MAC. This is look I went for on my girls night out last Saturday.

Wednesday

My gorgeous gold Gorjana necklace, need I say more?!

I’m a big book lover, book worm, bibliophile – there are many ways to describe my love of books. When I came across this photo on Twitter I just had to share it. It encapsulates so many of my favourite things, summer, flowy dresses, and reading.

Thursday

I recently shared a sneak peak of my wedding photos with you all, and yesterday I shared a Throw Back Thursday snap to one of my favourite wedding pictures. Now, I know I’ve promised you all a full wedding photography post and it’s coming, I swear! I’m just waiting on the USB to arrive from my photographer so I can share some of the images with you all.

But for now this will have to suffice. Oh how I wish I could do it all over again…

When I came home yesterday evening, I took out my happiness planner and entered my comments for the day. I love this happiness planner I got recently, if you’d like to know more about it you can read my full happiness planner post here.

My hubby and I are currently looking at redecorating some rooms so, as I so often do, I was looking up some inspiration on Houzz and Pinterest. How gorgeous is this living room? Exactly my style, soft tones, grey couch and a picture wall. I just had to share it.

Friday

My love for neck pieces is unwavering! Today I’ve opted for this spiked monochrome chunky neckpiece from Topshop. Perfect match to my knit black jumper.

So there you go! I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, please let me know your thoughts.

Oh and, Happy Friday! 🙂

Monday Blues

Happy Monday folks… Or not so happy Monday in my case. Don’t get me wrong, all is okay, but I woke up this morning just feeling a bit blugh. I’m not sure that’s even a word, but it’s the closest literary way I can find to express how I’m feeling today; blugh.

I had a fun, busy weekend with family, we spent Saturday at a wedding and Sunday at a Christening and it was lovely. But last night the Sunday blues started to creep in and they have well and truly exploded into full on Monday blues this morning.

Do you ever experience the Monday blues? What is it about Mondays that make us feel down or sad, or like we want to be somewhere totally different far, far away? Today was one of those mornings where I repeatedly pressed the snooze button on my alarm, not ready for the cold light of day to encroach on my sleep time. It was raining, dull, and grey, and all I wanted to do was stay in my bed.

I was in the middle of a blissful dream that I didn’t want to wake up from. Imagine the scene; Paris, in summer. I just bought my dream lamb-skin classic Chanel handbag. I was sitting in a bar along the Champs-Élysées drinking Rosé Champagne with my hubbie and the Arc de Triomphe was shimmering in the distance. It was a blissful wonderful dream, the kind of dream that made me feel like this was real life.

Then bang. Beep, beep, beep… I slowly woke to my alarm going off and the sound of reality creeping in. Blugh.

I think it’s time for a coffee…

Embracing Change

We’re brought up knowing that the one certainty in life, is that nothing is certain. If we know it, and understand it, then why is it so difficult when change comes our way?

Some change is good, amazing in fact. It makes our lives interesting and fun and unpredictable. But the kind of change that comes out of nowhere and slaps you in the face? That’s the change I’m taking issue with today!

People have varying ways of coping with slap-in-the-face change, some better than others of course. But it’s confession time. I am not one of those people. I one of the ones who’s mouth goes dry, nerves build up in my gut and I hover for days between dizziness and nausea depending on the extremity of the change. It all sounds very dramatic I know.

Today I found out something is changing, just as I had arrived at a happy, comfortable, easy, breezy place with it. It’s a new year and it’s all about change I get that – I’ve been talking nothing but change for the past few days and now it’s come back to bite me in the ass! Don’t you just hate when that happens?

A 2015 version of me would have had a complete panic about it, but in the spirit of embracing positivity this year, I’m going to need to embrace the change also. Damn. What was it Lemony Snicket said – if we wait until we’re ready, we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives? I best get on with it so…

Rant over. I feel better. Thanks for listening! 🙂

I think it’s time to go meditate now. Ommmm…
