Simply Lippy Challenge Day 81 | Essence Shine, Shine, Shine Lip Gloss in Shade 08, Indie Romance

My lippy choice for Day 81 was a nod to my lip gloss days of old, courtesy of a very pink gloss from Essence.

Essence isn’t a brand I would normally use, there are other budget brands that I really love such as Catrice and NYX, so it’s never really crossed my mind to try anything from them, until I saw these new high shine lip glosses when I was in the chemist the other day.

When I spotted this, the first thing I noticed was the ‘I’m New’ sticker which instantly drew me in so thought to myself, what better time to give one a try.

I have to say, I was pretty impressed. It is high shine so therefore the pigment is sheer as you would expect, and it does have that sticky thing which is slightly irritating. But, it felt nice on the lips and the lasting power wasn’t all that bad for a budget buy and I also really like the curved brush head which made application very easy.

It didn’t have particularly long lasting power, but I wouldn’t expect a high gloss shine to last too long so all-in-all, it was better than I had expected.

I don’t really wear pink glosses, or at least I haven’t since my school days, so it was fun to try something like this out as a nod to times gone by.

However, I think maybe my pink gloss days are behind me for now, so I’m not sure this is really for me.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 69 | YSL Vernis À Lèvres Vinyl Cream Liquid Lipstick in Shade 403

Ahh once again it’s Friday, and that means the weekend has begun and we can all breath a sigh of relief.

Because Friday’s are my favourite days, I decided to pair this Friday with one of my absolute favourite lipsticks in both formula and shade, YSL’s Vinyl Liquid Lipstick in shade 403.

Now, if you’ve been a follower of Simply Sorcha for a while, you may have read my review post on today’s lipstick back in November, and may also know that I absolutely adore it, so much so, it was my overall favourite beauty release of 2016.

I wore shade 402, a stunning warm toned red, on the very first day of Simply Lippy to kick off my challenge, and today I wore a second shade in the range, shade 403, which is the most beautiful salmon coral colour as you can see from the photos.

The formula on this lippy is so creamy and luxurious, and it gives a gorgeous soft, smooth gloss finish on application. It definitely has a vinyl feel to it, and makes the lips feel, well, just lovely!

Even though it has a vinyl gloss finish, the staying power is better than any gloss I’ve ever tried, and application is so easy too with the angled brush head.

I don’t often recommend that you should go out and buy something unless I really, really love it, but honestly, if you’re in the market for a new lippy then this one is definitely one worth considering.

When these were first released, both shades I received were gifted to me by YSL but already I’ve repurchased, and I certainly plan on repurchasing over and over again in the future because I just LOVE them, particularly this one.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 63 | Victoria’s Secret Flavoured Gloss in Strawberry Fizz

Let’s face it, some days you just want to throw your makeup on with a quick and easy look, and that’s what today’s makeup look and lipstick choice was for me.

I’ve been on the go all day so today, I don’t have time to share a full review post with you all, but I will say that the lip gloss I chose for my on-the-go look today was so nice to wear, and not sticky at all.

The shade is Strawberry Fizz, from Victoria’s Secret, and is one of their flavoured lip glosses. It has a high shine gloss finish, has a very slight pink tint to it, and is very easy to wear.

There’s nothing like a lip gloss to finish off a natural five minute makeup look, and this one happens to have great staying power which makes it all the more perfect for a busy day.

Edit
As you can see, it also has a very subtle shimmery finish to it which makes it perfect for both day and night looks no matter what the outfit or makeup choice.

Do you have a favourite lip gloss? If so I want to know so send all lovely gloss recommendations my way!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 51 | Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss in Shade Kristen

Anastasia Beverly Hills beauty products are hugely popular with makeup artists, celebrities and beauty lovers alike, but unfortunately, still aren’t available to buy in Ireland. So when I was travelling in Australia last November, I made it my mission to buy some bits in Sephora to bring home and try out.

I’ve heard so much hype about their lip gloss range over the last while, so of course me being me, I had to head straight to the shop the day I arrived in Sydney and pick up a few different shades.

Today’s shade Kristen, is a deep nude, almost brown, with a pink undertone and a super high-shine gloss finish. The colour is opaque, and the pigment is absolutely perfect – exactly as good as I hoped it would be after seeing hundreds of photos over the past few months!

The formula while creamy, is very slightly sticky which bugs me a little, but because the pigment is so good, I think I’ll have to forgive that. It’s neither hydrating or dehydrating, it kind of just sits on your lips leaving no colour stain or moisture, yet still has pretty good lasting power. Plus it smells deliciously of vanilla too.

Though I really like this, I’m not as bowled over by it as much as I thought I would be. Yes it has a fab finish, yes the colour is gorge, yes it has lasting power. But there’s something leaving me a just bit underwhelmed by this.

I feel guilty even saying this because I wanted to be obsessed with it! I do have it in another shade and I am very in love with that one, so I think maybe it’s the colour leaving me undecided here rather than the formula.

Anastasia products overall are very high quality; their brow products and face palettes are to die for. So I’m a big fan. I just had this on such a high pedestal which is maybe why I feel a little deflated.

What do you guys think, gave you tried any Anastasia lip products? I’d love to hear your thoughts so as always comment below and let know!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 43 | PS… Lip Duo Sheer Lipstick & Gloss in Shade Candid

Another weekend, another week of my lipstick challenge over. The weeks are flying by and I for one, am excited about warmer, brighter weather ahead!

In the meantime, in order to brighten up the day as I’m still feeling under the weather, I decided to go with a fun lipstick shade for today’s lipstick choice.

After searching through some of my brighter lippies and trying a few out, I eventually decided on one of these lipstick / lip gloss duo’s from the Penneys PS… range.

The shade, Candid, is a super bright, almost neon pink shade with a red shimmery undertone and I’m really loving its strong pigment. I’m not sure if you would call it a red or a pink really, but for arguments sake let’s call it somewhere in between.

Some of you may remember I wore one of these PS… Lip Duo’s on Day 32 of my challenge in a light gold colour called Aura. I was pleasantly surprised by the creaminess of the formula, and also by the lovely sheer finish that the gloss side gives to the lipstick side.

And I’m equally impressed with the formula on this one too.

In case you missed my last post, I was a little unsure of the colour pay off as the gold shade was very light, but as this shade is richer, the colour pay appears to be much better.

The lip duo’s have a two-step process whereby you apply the lipstick part first, then apply a layer of the gloss side on top to add shimmer.

Athough the lip gloss looks glittery in the tube, it’s not actually glittery when applied to the lips which is good. The glitter particles act more as a finishing shimmer and lift the lipstick colour ever so slightly to add an extra dimension.

The thing about the gloss side is: I’m not sure it really adds a whole lot extra to the final look. I kind of love the lipstick as it is and could happily wear it without the gloss, in fact, I don’t notice a huge difference after gloss application anyway. Yeah it may be slightly glossier, but the finish is pretty glossy already.

Once again with Penneys, this lipstick is such good value that if you wanted to try it out to see if you like it, then it’s certainly not going to break the bank in the process.

While I think the shade is lovely, I’m still not convinced about the lasting power with these as the colour does wear off easily. Given the price tag however it’s not really a big deal, and there are some great positives with these; I just don’t think they would be my favourite of the Penneys options that I’ve tried.

What do you guys think, are you a fan of Penneys PS… lipsticks? I’d love to know if any of you have tried them or not!

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 26 | MAC Pro Longwear Lipglass in Whoops!

For today’s Simply Lippy choice I’ve chosen one of my oldest favourites: one that has been part of my makeup collection for many years now, and more years than I can even remember!

You may have read my Day 15 post on how MAC Rebel was one of my first dark lipstick purchases, but today’s shade came even before that. I’m pretty sure I bought this for the first time about ten years ago but that could be a slight exaggeration. Let’s just say it’s been a very long time!

Anyway, the lippy is a MAC Pro Longwear Lipglass and the shade, Whoops!, is the most wonderfully, bright coral colour. Yes, it’s not a shade I would normally opt for in Winter, but the weather has been so lovely and sunny the past few days, and after all my neutral shades so far this week, I really wanted to add a strong pop of colour to my makeup today.

The Pro Longwear Lipglass formula is incredibly long lasting, and the colour pay off is insane! I mean, it’s perfect. The finish is a high shine gloss which can sometimes affect lippy longevity, but this lippy really doesn’t disappoint. And that’s probably the reason why it’s been a favourite of mine for so long now.

Although I don’t tend to wear glosses as often as lipsticks, I love that you can easily build your colour with glosses too. Whether you want a light or strong application, both are very easy to achieve by layering, especially with this product.

In the photos the colour does look a little more orange than coral, so I’ve taken one photo with flash and the other without flash to try give you a better idea.

If you’re a big MAC fan chances are you have tried one of these glosses, and if so, I’d love to hear what shades you’ve worn.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 23 | Catrice Volumizing Lip Booster Gloss in Shade 010

Well, my first day in my new job is over and I survived! Well, kinda. I was so nervous going in this morning but after a few hours I started to settle and met some of my lovely new colleagues, so all was going well until after a meeting with my Director, when I spectacularly slipped and nearly face planted full force into the floor. WTF! WHY GOD, WHY?!

I was walking back to my desk, eagerly chatting away when next thing I know my leg went out from under me and he was holding my arm trying to prevent me from falling flat on my face. Like, can you imagine?! I have never been so mortified and couldn’t get back to my desk quick enough as visions of wobbling around, looking like a drunken ice skater kept running through my mind. Ground, open up and swallow me. NOW!

Needless to say, I’m not the better of it, but I hope it gives you all a good laugh on this Monday evening. I keep going between laughter and the verge tears since I got home so I won’t blame you if you’re crying some tears of laughter too!

Now back to the matter in hand: my lipstick choice for today. As I mentioned the other day, my lippy choices for this week are going to be a little more understated than what I’ve been wearing up to now, mainly because I want to get settled before I go in rocking a strong lip. God knows, my Director probably thinks I’m crazy enough already now after today’s events so I may have to regain some of my street-cred before playing around with lipstick shades.

Anyway, in the interest of playing it safe for my first day, the lippy I opted for was a soft pink lip gloss from Catrice, and one which I have to say, has really impressed me. The Volumizing Lip Booster lip gloss is one of the nicer lip glosses I’ve tried recently and I love the high glossy shine it gives. This shade, 010, is a natural pink shade so you only get a very slight colour on application, but nothing less than you’d expect from a neutral gloss.

The best thing about this however, is the plumping effect it gives your lips. The formula contains menthol so the second you apply, your lips begin to tingle and you can almost feel the plumping take place! It definitely made my lips feel fuller and its soft finish meant there was zero stickiness which made it so easy to wear.

I only discovered Catrice products early last year, but if you caught some of my previous posts, you’ll know that I’ve become a big fan of their Glam & Doll False Lash mascara, and their Don’t Worry Be Berry lipstick was one of my favourite shades to wear last year.

It was the perfect shade to get me through my first day of work, and if I had to fall and make a fool out of myself, then at least I did it with nice lippy on!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 21 | NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Penny Arcade

Today I hit the three week mark of my Simply Lippy challenge and I can’t believe I’m almost a month into the challenge. Granted, there’s still a long way to go yet, but each month that passes is another month closer to my goal and that makes me very excited.

This week’s lipstick shades were bold and bright, and I really loved playing around with some strong colours. For the coming week however, my shades are going to be a little more tame as I’m going to be starting my new job on Monday and therefore I think I’ll need to reign in the brightness just a little until I get settled in. I do promise to keep the shades relevant to the season we’re in, but they will just be slightly more understated than you’ve seen so far.

Now, on to today’s shade…

I’m feeling a little under the weather today and haven’t been doing a whole lot so I’ve gone with a very soft, natural makeup look with a subtle lip courtesy of NARS. The shade, Penny Arcade, is from the NARS Larger Than Life lip gloss collection and I’ve had it for quite some time. In fact, I forgot I had it until I began gathering all my lippies together a few weeks ago for my challenge.

Lip glosses by their very nature are softer than lipsticks and therefore are a great option if you want a very natural look. While I don’t think they make this particular shade anymore, it was one of my favourites for a long time. It is a gorgeous pink, raspberry shade, and gives a very intense shiny finish to the lips. It also has a thin, short brush-end which makes application very easy and precise.

As you can see from my photos, this shade is not too dramatic but you still get a lovely pop of colour that brightens up the lips and lifts your entire makeup look.

I do tend prefer lipsticks overall, but it’s nice to wear a gloss every once in a while to mix things up a bit. What about you guys? Do you prefer lipstick or lip gloss?

If you’re enjoying my challenge so far, I’d really love for you to please come follow me over on social media too. I post pretty pictures on Instagram, chat all things beauty releases and favourites on Twitter, and share weekly lipstick videos on Facebook.
