Simply Lippy Challenge Day 338 | MAC Frost Lipstick in Shade, Tease Maker

Today’s lipstick shade is the final shade from my MAC mini snowball lipstick set which I bought in the airport last week. While the first two shades, Love Buddy and Dangerously Red, were matte shades, this shade is a frost shade, and not one of my favourites I must admit.

If you’ve been following my challenge for the year, you’ll already know that frost finishes are my least favourite of all. I’m not much of a shimmer person, and frost finishes just remind me of bad lipstick choices from the late 80s!

Having said that, this shade does have a slight metallic look to it which I didn’t mind, and while I’m wearing it on its own for the purposes of the challenge, I think it would be best worn on top of a deeper shade to add an extra dimension finish.

The formula of this isn’t anywhere as creamy as other MAC finishes, and therefore the lasting power isn’t as good either. It is soft on the lips and relatively moisturising, but doesn’t have that same rich texture that I usually love in a MAC lippy.

As frost finishes go, it’s not the worst I’ve tried, and the pigment surprisingly, is pretty good considering. You definitely get a hint of pink when you apply it, so that one thing to like about it at least.

I don’t love it and I doubt I will wear it again on its own. But if you like a shimmer lip, then this could be right up your street.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 336 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Shade, Dangerously Red

Following on from yesterday’s lipstick, today’s is another from my MAC Mini Lipstick snowball set that I picked up in the airport on my way over to London. I came to spend the weekend with my family as it’s the last weekend I could fly before bump arrives in the New Year!

Yesterday’s shade, Love Buddy, was a soft pink shade which was fine but I didn’t love it. Today’s shade however, I absolutely adore! Dangerously Red to me, is really more of a pink than a red; it has a gorgeous raspberry undertone and is fabulously bold and bright. I love shades like this at any time of year, but they are particularly nice on a dull and miserable winter’s day when you want to brighten up your makeup look.

The finish once again is matte, and as you all know by now, I just love MAC matte lipsticks. I put this lippy on in the morning and only needed to reapply it a couple of times throughout the day. It leaves my lips feeling soft when I wear it, and the full coverage is just perfect too.

For me, MAC mattes are just creamy enough to not dry out the lips, and the rich creamy texture is very smooth which makes application so easy too. It is blendable, moisturising and definitely one of the better mattes on the market in my opinion.

Usually a MAC lipstick will set you back €20 so these mini’s are a great way of trying out some shades for a lot less money if you’re not sure about what kind of shade or formula you like best. They also come in a super cute silver sequin bag which is the perfect accessory for the silly season!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 335 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Shade Love Buddy

It’s been a while since I’ve worn any MAC lipsticks, but I’m sure you all know by now just how much I love them, so when I saw this cute little mini lipstick set while going through the airport, I knew I had to have it!

The set is a trio of matte lipsticks, released just in time for Christmas, and as MAC mattes are my favourite lipstick finishes, I knew they would be right up my street. I’ve never come across the shades before which obviously is unusual for me, but I loved the look of them so was excited to try them out.

Today’s shade, Love Buddy, is the first from the set, and although I initially thought it would be a rose shade, it’s actually more of a pink than rose. So really, it’s not my ideal kind of shade but it was just rich enough for me to like it.

The finish as with all MAC mattes, is an opaque, full coverage finish with a lovely smooth texture. The colour pay off is brilliant and although I wasn’t totally in love with the shade, the pigment was perfect as always.

A lot of mattes can be drying, but one of the reasons MAC mattes are my favourite is because they are very creamy and don’t dry out my lips at all. I know a lot of people find them uncomfortable to wear, but if you prime your lips beforehand that definitely helps to keep them soft throughout the day.

Because of the rich creamy texture, the lasting power is also very good, and you really won’t need to reapply this too much at all. I would have liked a slightly darker undertone to it but overall it is a lovely lipstick and if you’re a pink fan then I think this is definitely one checking out.

And, on an even better note, if you’re going through the airport before Christmas or know someone who is, then you can pick the set up in the Loop Duty free for €25.95. It costs €30 in Brown Thomas so you’ll be saving yourself a few pennies if you do!

Well, it’s that time of year again, my favourite time! I have to admit, I do love Christmas, and I’m one of those annoying people who starts getting excited about it in October. Anyway, as a result, I have been thinking about the perfect gift guide for a couple of weeks now, and have decided to put together a quick post on some of my favourite items and recommendations for you this Christmas.

I’m sure you’ve been inundated with gift guides on social media, and I understand sometimes too much bombarding of information can be a bad thing. I’m a huge fan of This Works’ products; apart from smelling incredible, they are packed full of great ingredients and more importantly, they work too! Their Deep Sleep range has been a go-to for me for quite some time; I use their Deep Sleep pillow spray almost every night and love it, and have recently discovered their Deep Sleep Heavenly candle which is divine too.

Candles are always a great gift in my opinion, I love receiving them as well as giving them, and this one not only looks lovely, but will help keep you calm and relaxed all winter long, as well as helping you catch up on some well needed zzzz’s. What better gift than the gift of sleep this Christmas!

Jo Malone bath oils are so luxurious; they leave your skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth, not to mention how amazing they smell too. They come in a variety of different scents, but Lime Basil & Mandarin is my personal favourite.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 307 | MAC Lustre Lipstick in Shade, Lady Bug

Today’s lipstick shade is one of my Mum’s absolute favourite lipsticks so I decided I would try it out to see what she loves about it so much. She is currently coming to the end of this one as you can see, so I took it off her to add it to my challenge and see if I liked it too.

To start with, the Lustre range from MAC isn’t one that I wear too often. For me, the Creme and Matte finishes are just so gorgeous, I’m always drawn to those first. However, very early on in my challenge I wore a gorgeous soft mauve shade from the Lustre collection, Syrup, and loved how it felt on my lips. As a result, I was intrigued to see whether it would be as nice in a bolder shade.

My first impression was that, like most MAC lipsticks, the formula felt very soft and there was a nice creamy finish to it too. It blended well with good colour pay off, and it left my lips feeling nice and smooth.

The finish however has a sheer element to it which meant that the coverage was more light than opaque, and I did have to layer it a little to get a fuller coverage. There’s nothing wrong with the coverage at all, in fact, it’s nice to wear something light like this for a change, but it’s just not my favourite kind of coverage.

Given the slightly sheer finish, I was impressed with the lasting power, but then MAC lipsticks always have great staying power. It’s one of the many reasons why I reach for MAC lippies over and over again, and they are definitely one of my favourite lipstick brands.

In terms of the shade itself, I liked the warm tone to the red, but as MAC reds go, I’d definitely choose my favourite Lady Danger or Mangrove over this any day!

Review: MAC Next To Nothing Face Colour Foundation

When it comes to makeup, there are very few brands that do it better than MAC in my opinion. For years, my go-to foundation was Studio Fix Fluid foundation, very closely followed by Studio Fix powder. Both of these are full coverage finishes, and it’s only in the past few years that I have begun moving away from full coverage, to much lighter, dewy foundations.

As you get older your skin changes, and now I rarely wear a full coverage foundation unless I’m going on a big night out. I’ve grown to much prefer the feel and look of a lighter foundation, and that’s where Next To Nothing comes in.

I had read a little bit about this foundation in the Spring just after it was released, but it was only when I was in MAC back in June that I decided to swatch it and see what all the hype was about.

When talking to the makeup artist in store, she explained to me that this was MAC’s answer to Armani’s Luminous Silk and honestly, that was a very bold claim to make. As far as high-end foundations go, Luminous Silk has been my go-to since I discovered it around 18 months ago. It gives my face a perfect creamy coverage that smooths out my skin while also giving it an incredible glow (if you missed my review earlier this year you catch catch it here).

Given how much I love Luminous Silk, naturally I was intrigued to see if Next to Nothing lived up to its claims so I bought it, and have been putting it to the test over the past few months. Here’s how I’ve been getting on…

First off, Next to Nothing is extremely light weight, and MAC describe it as more of a tinted cream than foundation. The formula is quite wet, much wetter than you’d expect, and because of that, it blends very quickly into the skin.

As far as consistency goes, I’m not sure how much I like it. I like that it is very easy to apply, and I like that a little goes a long way. However, the wetness means you have to be careful how you apply it. In general, I prefer stippling brushes to apply liquid foundation (MAC 191 is my favourite), but that doesn’t work well at all with this foundation. When I applied it with my stippling brush, it kind of dragged the formula rather than blended it, so a flat foundation brush or a beauty blender/sponge are your only real options for an even coverage.

Speaking of coverage, it is so light that it gives a ‘barely there’ look to the skin yet still manages to blur out skin imperfections. It gives a lovely smoothness to my skin which also softens it, so from that point of view, it is very nice. It is comfortable to wear, doesn’t feel heavy or thick in any way, and has a lovely hydrating element to it too which I wasn’t expecting.

I think maybe the thing I like about it most (and this is where it is similar to Luminous Silk), is the lovely sheer glow it gives to my skin. My skin is combination to dry, more dry than anything else, and because of that, has a tendency to look dull at times. I think that’s mainly why I’m so drawn to dewy foundations now, and this definitely brings a lovely soft glow to my face.

But, and there is a but with it; don’t be expecting a flawless finish. I have some red lines and broken capillaries around my nose area which it doesn’t cover very well, and due to pregnancy hormones my chin has been very dry and sandpaper-like over the past few months, which means I need a good amount of concealer when I use it. It doesn’t have the same creaminess that Luminous Silk has, and the coverage is maybe just a little too light, even for me.

One thing that struck me when I was researching the foundation was, that as well as using this as your stand alone base, MAC also suggest using it over your current foundation to give an extra glow to the skin – that just completely baffled me. I’m not sure why you should ever need to use a foundation, over your foundation?! That’s what primers and highlighters are for…

Also, when this was first released it was hailed as an ‘Instagram filter in a bottle’ because of its retouching quality and the sheer glow it gives the skin. While I’m sure that was just part of the marketing plan, I’m not sure I get that claim either.

So how do I feel about it now? Well, I like it but I don’t love it. On a warm Summer’s day, or a day when you just want a light tint to the skin, it is the perfect option. It will give you a lovely glow and keep your skin soft and smooth. So, if you tend to prefer light foundations, then I would definitely recommend getting a sample in store to try it out.

But, if you want something a little creamier, longer lasting or have blemishes you want to cover, it’s not the best choice. And, although it has an oil-free formula, it probably isn’t going to work for you if you have oily skin either.

I am wearing shade Light Plus, which is maybe a little too light for my skin tone, but the next shade up, Medium, was too dark. There isn’t a great shade range with there being only nine in total, but because it is so light and blendable, it is easy enough to work around that.

I think it will be great for when bump arrives and I don’t have the time to apply a full face of makeup every day, so I’m definitely going to keep wearing it for light coverage days. But overall I think this one is going to be a love or hate kind of product – the only question is, do you love it or hate it?!

If you’ve tried this foundation I’d love to hear your thoughts on it, so please comment below and let me know. Or similarly, if you have any lightweight foundations that you love, then share those too.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 266 | MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Shade, Crosswires

You all know by now how much I love MAC lipsticks. To me, it’s what MAC do best and while there are some shades that wouldn’t be to my taste, nearly every lipstick I’ve tried from MAC, I have liked or loved.

Today’s shade, Crosswires, is a kind of muted coral shade. It’s not bright like most corals, but has more of a caramel undertone to it which really grew on me the longer I wore it. I love the subtlety of the shade; it’s bright enough for a Summer or holiday lip, but it’s also not too dramatic if you want a more neutral or relaxed look.

Cremesheen finishes aren’t my favourite MAC finish, but I still like them nonetheless because of the soft, sheer glow they give the lips. The pigment is on point as always, and the colour pay off is also great, even though it has a slightly sheer finish.

The formula is creamy, and has that delicious vanilla scent you get with so many MAC lippies; I just can’t ever resist it because it’s sweet but not overpowering at all.

Lasting power isn’t as great as their creme or matte finishes, but is still pretty good and this one held up very well, particularly in the Tenerife heat which was a pleasant surprise. I thought the heat may have a melting affect on the lippy but it didn’t at all so that’s definitely a bonus if you’re still to head off on holiday.

I ended up really liking this shade and think it’s a great all-rounder choice for both day and night wear. It isn’t too dramatic, but has just enough colour to lift any makeup look.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 253 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Shade Velvet Teddy

If you’re a MAC fan and a lipstick fan, then I’m pretty sure you’ll either have heard of Velvet Teddy or tried it. This shade has become one of MAC’s cult favourite lipsticks among many beauty lovers over the years, me included.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve worn this shade, so much so, I couldn’t find it in my lippy collection. So I must have used it up or lost it, but either way, I had to buy it again as soon as I realised I didn’t have it anymore!

Velvet Teddy is a gorgeous caramel shade and is part of the matte range which I absolutely adore. Similarly to Charlotte Tilbury mattes, MAC mattes are creamy, non-drying, and feel lovely to wear.

This is the perfect lipstick shade in my opinion because anyone can wear it. It suits all skin tones, goes with absolutely eveything, and looks equally as good on in day time as it does for a night on the tiles.

Because of the matte finish, the lasting power of this lipstick is really brilliant, made even better by the brilliant colour pay off you get when you apply it. As with all MAC lippies, the pigment is perfect, and gives your lips the perfect pop of colour for any occasion.

I love this shade for any time of year, but particularly around this time of year. It’s earthy yet warm, and is the perfect Autumnal choice if you’re ready to move away from brighter corals and pinks.

Have you tried Velvet Teddy? For me, it’s up there in my Top 15 favourite ever lipsticks and will remain there for a long time to come too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 244 | MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Shade Hang-Up

There are very few lipsticks that compare to MAC lipsticks for me, and of all the many MAC shades I’ve tried over the years, I love nearly every single one. It’s rare that I don’t like one, and today’s shade is another example of that.

Hang-Up is a rich plum toned shade, very similar to two of my all time MAC favourites, Rebel and Dark Side. In fact, I would say this sits right in the middle of those two shades; it’s not quite as purple as Rebel, but not quite as dark as Dark Side.

I only recently discovered this shade and as so often happens to me when I discover a lipstick I love, I wonder how it’s managed to elude me until now!

It has everything I love in a lipstick; intense pigment, great colour pay off, a rich tone, good lasting power and a lovely finish. Cremesheen finishes aren’t my favourite of the MAC finishes, but they are smooth with a very slight sheen gloss, and give your lips a lovely pop of colour no matter what the shade.

I’m not sure that it could replace the love I have for my two favourite berry shades as they have a special place in my heart, but I do love it and will definitely be reaching for it a lot once my challenge is over.

I don’t know about you but I love rich tones like this for Autumn and I’m very excited that we’re heading into the cooler months. I’m usually a Summer girl through and through, but this year for some reason, I feel very ready for Autumn to arrive so you’ll be seeing a lot more shades like this over the coming months!

Sorcha 💋

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 229 | MAC Satin Lipstick in Shade Captive

If you’ve been following me for a while now, you will know that MAC Rebel is one of my all time favourite lipsticks shades, ever! It is the perfect berry shade in my opinion, and I didn’t think anything else could come close to it until I tried this shade.

Also from MAC, Captive, is a gorgeous berry toned lipstick, it doesn’t have the same pink/purple hue that Rebel has, but is pretty close, and I jusy love that it has a creamy satin finish.

As MAC finishes go, Satin is my favourite of all, so having a berry tone lipstick as lovely as this in my favourite finish makes me very happy! I don’t even know how I’m only discovering it now to be honest because it’s like my dream berry shade.

As with all MAC satin lipsticks, the pigment is perfect and gives great colour pay off with only one layer. It blends like a dream and the colour is very buildable too if you want a richer tone.

I love everything about this lippy and I know I’m going to be repurchasing it a lot! If I didn’t have my challenge going on, I’m pretty sure I’d be reaching for it every day this Autumn but I’ll have to wait a little longer to wear it again unfortunately.

Do you like a berry lip? If you’re on the look out for a new autumnal shade then definitely have a swatch of this – it’s the perfect option in my opinion!
