Simply Lippy Challenge Day 336 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Shade, Dangerously Red

Following on from yesterday’s lipstick, today’s is another from my MAC Mini Lipstick snowball set that I picked up in the airport on my way over to London. I came to spend the weekend with my family as it’s the last weekend I could fly before bump arrives in the New Year!

Yesterday’s shade, Love Buddy, was a soft pink shade which was fine but I didn’t love it. Today’s shade however, I absolutely adore! Dangerously Red to me, is really more of a pink than a red; it has a gorgeous raspberry undertone and is fabulously bold and bright. I love shades like this at any time of year, but they are particularly nice on a dull and miserable winter’s day when you want to brighten up your makeup look.

The finish once again is matte, and as you all know by now, I just love MAC matte lipsticks. I put this lippy on in the morning and only needed to reapply it a couple of times throughout the day. It leaves my lips feeling soft when I wear it, and the full coverage is just perfect too.

For me, MAC mattes are just creamy enough to not dry out the lips, and the rich creamy texture is very smooth which makes application so easy too. It is blendable, moisturising and definitely one of the better mattes on the market in my opinion.

Usually a MAC lipstick will set you back €20 so these mini’s are a great way of trying out some shades for a lot less money if you’re not sure about what kind of shade or formula you like best. They also come in a super cute silver sequin bag which is the perfect accessory for the silly season!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 335 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Shade Love Buddy

It’s been a while since I’ve worn any MAC lipsticks, but I’m sure you all know by now just how much I love them, so when I saw this cute little mini lipstick set while going through the airport, I knew I had to have it!

The set is a trio of matte lipsticks, released just in time for Christmas, and as MAC mattes are my favourite lipstick finishes, I knew they would be right up my street. I’ve never come across the shades before which obviously is unusual for me, but I loved the look of them so was excited to try them out.

Today’s shade, Love Buddy, is the first from the set, and although I initially thought it would be a rose shade, it’s actually more of a pink than rose. So really, it’s not my ideal kind of shade but it was just rich enough for me to like it.

The finish as with all MAC mattes, is an opaque, full coverage finish with a lovely smooth texture. The colour pay off is brilliant and although I wasn’t totally in love with the shade, the pigment was perfect as always.

A lot of mattes can be drying, but one of the reasons MAC mattes are my favourite is because they are very creamy and don’t dry out my lips at all. I know a lot of people find them uncomfortable to wear, but if you prime your lips beforehand that definitely helps to keep them soft throughout the day.

Because of the rich creamy texture, the lasting power is also very good, and you really won’t need to reapply this too much at all. I would have liked a slightly darker undertone to it but overall it is a lovely lipstick and if you’re a pink fan then I think this is definitely one checking out.

And, on an even better note, if you’re going through the airport before Christmas or know someone who is, then you can pick the set up in the Loop Duty free for €25.95. It costs €30 in Brown Thomas so you’ll be saving yourself a few pennies if you do!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 254 | NYX Matte Lipstick in Shade MLS18, Bloody Mary

There’s nothing I love more in a lipstick than a great pigment, and these matte finish lipsticks from NYX have it in spades. The weird thing is, when I first tried one of these back in June, I really didn’t like it; it was very dry with bad pigment, and I didn’t think I’d try one again.

Fast forward to now and I’ve tried two more shades since which I absolutely love, and particularly Street Cred Authentiquewhich I tried out a few weeks ago. It’s funny how a bad experience can totally put you off something but if you give it another try, it sometimes surprises you and that’s what happened with this range for me.

All the colours I’ve tried recently, including this gorgeous raspberry shade today, have gorgeous pigment and the colour pay off is brilliant too.

The matte finish is quite matte, but just creamy enough to allow you to apply and blend well, before it settles into the lips. There is almost a stain like quality to it too as the staying power is really very good, and you won’t get this lippy off your lips without putting in a bit of effort.

The curved angle at the top of the lipstick itself, is designed to cover the shape of your lips perfectly, and definitely allows for an easier application. The pointed tip makes it easy to define the edges without the use of a lip liner, and then you just apply the rest with the curve and you’re on your way.

Have any of you tried this range from NYX? If so I’d love to hear what you think given my two very different impressions!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 253 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Shade Velvet Teddy

If you’re a MAC fan and a lipstick fan, then I’m pretty sure you’ll either have heard of Velvet Teddy or tried it. This shade has become one of MAC’s cult favourite lipsticks among many beauty lovers over the years, me included.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve worn this shade, so much so, I couldn’t find it in my lippy collection. So I must have used it up or lost it, but either way, I had to buy it again as soon as I realised I didn’t have it anymore!

Velvet Teddy is a gorgeous caramel shade and is part of the matte range which I absolutely adore. Similarly to Charlotte Tilbury mattes, MAC mattes are creamy, non-drying, and feel lovely to wear.

This is the perfect lipstick shade in my opinion because anyone can wear it. It suits all skin tones, goes with absolutely eveything, and looks equally as good on in day time as it does for a night on the tiles.

Because of the matte finish, the lasting power of this lipstick is really brilliant, made even better by the brilliant colour pay off you get when you apply it. As with all MAC lippies, the pigment is perfect, and gives your lips the perfect pop of colour for any occasion.

I love this shade for any time of year, but particularly around this time of year. It’s earthy yet warm, and is the perfect Autumnal choice if you’re ready to move away from brighter corals and pinks.

Have you tried Velvet Teddy? For me, it’s up there in my Top 15 favourite ever lipsticks and will remain there for a long time to come too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 195 | Penneys PS… Matte Lipkit in Shade Lady in Red

During the week I came home to the most amazing package from the lovely ladies in Penneys; four of their new matte lip kits in the most incredible bold shades. As you can imagine, I was super excited to give these a go so chose a deep red as my Day 195 choice.

First things first: I cannot believe these are from Penneys! The pigment is quite literally, insane it’s so good, and honestly could easily hold its own against any of the top liquid matte lipsticks on the market.

I’ve never been hugely drawn to lip kits as I don’t tend to wear lip liner, but the liner in this kit is so creamy and easy to use, you could nearly use it as a lip crayon on its own! The pigment is equally as good, and the smooth texture makes for a very fine application which is great in a liner.

The lipstick itself is smooth, and although quite wet when you first apply, it dries in no time at all without any dragging or pulling, and leaves the most incredible dramatic pop of colour on the lips.

From the moment I applied it I loved it, and I just knew it was going to be a good lipstick day!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, my lips are a bit drier than normal at the moment so I was nervous that this might make them a whole lot worse, but, it really didn’t at all.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not moisturising and it’s not hydrating, but it’s not drying either and that makes it a complete winner in my book. Plus, it costs €4. Four frickin’ euro people!!!

All the shades in this range are bold and dramatic and I just can’t wait to try the others out. As always, I’ll keep you posted, but for now I will love you and leave you, and go swoon over this lippy a little bit longer!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 181 | Wet n Wild Matte Lipstick in Shade E906D, Wine Room

Those of you who have been following me for a while now, will already know that I’m quite partial to a nice berry lip. I love the dramatic effect a bold berry gives to my makeup look, and today’s choice definitely does that.

I first tried one of these matte lipsticks from Wet n Wild a few months ago, when I was very kindly sent a few to try out. The first shade I tried, Purty Persimmon, was a gorgeous orange red which I loved, and I’ve been totally hooked since. So much so, I went out and bought several other shades for my challenge.

Today’s shade, Wine Room, is exactly the kind of berry I love; strong pigment, dramatic and absolutely gorgeous! In fact, I think this might be one of my favourite budget matte lippies that I’ve tried so far.

When you first apply this on the lips, it initially feels very dry but once on, actually has a nice creamy texture to it. You do have to work with it a little to blend, but the pigment is so good you don’t need to layer it too much which is always good.

However, I think the thing I like about this most apart from the colour, is the lasting power. This baby won’t budge off your lips unless you’re really trying to make it! I ate breakfast and lunch with several cuppa’s in between before having to reapply, and even when it did start to fade, the colour was still pretty good.

I love nothing more than discovering new favourites, and as budget brands go, Wet n Wild has really impressed me. Sure, it’s probably never going to be as creamy as a MAC creme, but it holds its own pretty well if you ask me!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 168 | MAC Matte Lipstick in Shade, Mangrove

As I’m off to my gorgeous friends wedding today, this post is going to be very short and sweet, yet definitely worth a read because I think I have discovered a new favourite lippy shade, yay!

Although a gorgeous sunny day in Dublin, and a scorcher to beat, my dress for the day is dark and sparkly so I decided I wanted to opt for a bold coral lip to brighten up my overall look.

After some searching through endless swatches online for the perfect coral, I came across this gorgeous coral red from MAC called Mangrove, which let’s be honest, I’ve don’t how I haven’t found it before now because it’s so gorgeous!

Many of you will already know my love for Lady Danger, one of my all-time favourite lippies, and this shade isn’t a million miles away from that. It has the same matte finish, the only real difference being that the tone in Mangrove is more red than orange, but it’s a fab coral and I have totally fallen in love with it!

In hindsight I think my dress is far too wintery for the day that’s in it, but you never know what the Irish weather is going to bring!

But because of that, I’m so glad I went with a bright shade that added the fab pop of colour my outfit most definitely needed. Plus, MAC mattes have incredible staying power so are perfect for a day when you need your lippy to stay put!
