Simply Lippy Challenge Day 109 | NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Shade 18, Prague

I have absolutely no clue as to why today’s lipstick is called Prague, it has no correlation to the shade as far as I can tell, but obviously that doesn’t matter at all especially because, this shade is to die for.

First things first; it is almost identical in colour to one of my all time favourite lipsticks ever, MAC Rebel so because of that alone, I already I love it.

The best way I can describe the shade is that it is a purple toned, berry shade and one that I love dearly.

So, you can imagine my excitement when I applied this NYX matte lippy today to find that it was the same gorgeous shade as Rebel, just in a different finish.

This is a soft liquid matte but it’s not too wet which is great as I really don’t like when liquid lippies have a very water-like consistency. Thankfully though, this is slightly creamy and has incredible pigment which makes application so smooth.

The drying time is pretty good, as is the lasting power. It gets a little sticky after drinking and eating but only if your lips are wet, but doesn’t go patchy or flakey which is a major plus.

One of the best things about this challenge so far has been the surprise and joy I still get from trying new lipsticks. I didn’t expect this lippy to be the same shade as Rebel, but I just love that it is.

For that, and the nice consistency that goes with it, this lippy is getting top points today!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 100 | Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Matte Lipstick in Shade 11, So Hap’pink

It’s officially day 100 of my Simply Lippy challenge and for today’s lipstick, I chose a lovely soft matte berry shade courtesy of Bourjois.

You may remember that I wore another shade from this collection a few weeks back, a lovely coral shade, Ravie en Rose, that I bought last year, but I was in two minds about whether I liked it or not, and I’m still in two minds now.

After trying out today’s shade, I think I feel a little better about the formula now, mainly due to the fact that because this is a darker shade, the pigment seemed much better and I didn’t notice it really drag or pull the way I did before.

The matte finish is lovely and soft, and definitely leaves a velvety feel to the lips which was one of the things I liked most about it last time around, so no change there. I also found that this shade lasted better throughout the day, and I didn’t need to reapply it as much as I thought I would.

The colour itself, as you can see from the pictures, is a lovely soft berry, and I like how it’s not too rich for a soft makeup day, or for a day in the office when you don’t want to go too bold with your look. But, if you did want to make it a bit stronger, the formula is pretty buildable, so it’s a versatile choice in that sense.

While I still think I’m in two minds about this, I much prefer this shade over the coral one, and am definitely liking it more than I did before. Maybe it’s just one of those things that gets better each time you wear it so I guess I’ll have to keep wearing them to find out.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 94 | Wet n Wild Matte Lipstick in Shade E909D, Coral-ine

I was recently sent some of these lipsticks by the lovely people over in Wet n Wild, and if you caught my last post on their matte lipstick on Purty Persimmon from Day 68, you will know that I was very impressed by it.

The shade for this post is another red based shade but is different to Purty Persimmon in that this is more of a red, red!

Okay that doesn’t tell you much I know, but as the name Coral-ine suggests, I was expecting it to be orange based with a coral tone, but actually it’s more pink based than orange.

It still has a lovely warm tone to it, which is always my preference when it comes to red, and the formula is so long lasting which is always a bonus.

In my previous post on this range I mentioned how the formula isn’t particular creamy, and it’s not. It’s quite dry on application but I was pleantly surprised both times, to find that it wasn’t dehydrating on my lips at all.

After I published my Day 68 post, one of my lovely readers told me that she had tried Purty Persimmon and found it quite drying on her lips so it just goes to show that makeup choice is such a personal thing and we all have different preferences when it comes to what we like and don’t like.

Over the years, I’ve tried things that I really don’t like and other people think I’m crazy because they love them! But that’s all part of the fun in blogging and sharing recommendations and feedback, isn’t it?

I love how we can all help and guide each other through the blogging sphere – god knows I still have so much to learn about makeup and there are still hundreds of products on my list to try, not least of all every lipstick in the world of course!

I haven’t been able to blog properly over for past month or so because of some personal issues, but I have lots of products that I’ve been testing out and will be reviewing shortly.

For now, I just wanted to take the opportunity to say a massive thank you to you all for sticking with me throughout the challenge so far, and for stopping by to follow my blog. I really appreciate all your support and I hope I’m adding even a little bit of value with my posts.

Happy hump day!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 89 | Penneys PS… Matte Long Last Lipstick in Shade, Bombshell

I feel like I don’t need to go into too much detail about how much I like these matte lipsticks from Penneys (Primark) because I have had nothing but good things to say about every lipstick in the range that I’ve tried so far.

Not only is the formula creamy and smooth, it smells delicious and the colour are just gorgeous, not to mention the pigment.

Today’s shade, Bombshell, is once again not a shade I would ever usually have worn given I’m not really into pink, but it is such a fun shade and I’m really liking it!

It has that wow impact which works well with a natural makeup look, and although I don’t think I’ll be wearing it on a regular basis, I definitely like it for an every now and again shade.

I’ve worn some gorgeous reds and nudes from this collection already, as well as a fabulous orange shade called Fizz which I am in love with and plan on wearing a lot!

Have you tried any of the Penneys matte range? At just €2.00, they really are a great bargain buy!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 68 | Wet n Wild Matte Lipstick in Shade E970, Purty Persimmon

Yesterday I was sent some gorgeous lipsticks from Wet n Wild to try out as part of their International Women’s Day campaign. The idea was to use the lipstick to write one word on your mirror that describes women power and share it on social media.

I absolutely loved the idea from the minute I read about it, and set about writing my favourite word to describe women: fierce!

The lipstick I chose to write my word is the most gorgeous orange toned red – the kind of red that I absolutely love – and because I couldn’t wear it yesterday, of course it just had to be my Simply Lippy choice for today.

The finish is super matte with strong bright pigment, and as you can see, the colour pay off is just fab. It’s not a particularly creamy lipstick, but isn’t drying and has one of the best lasting abilities of all the lipsticks I’ve tried so far this year.

To top it all off, I got some lovely compliments on it today too which is always a great sign!

I’m so impressed with the Wet n Wild lipsticks I’ve tried so far; on Day 52 I wore one of their Megaslicks lippies which I really liked, and I’m liking today’s shade even more.

Have you tried any Wet n Wild lipsticks? I’d love to hear what your fav lippy shades are so make sure you comment below and let me know.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 65 | theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes in Shade Doting

Eeek, I know, I know; I’m very late with today’s Simply Lippy challenge post but I just had a crazy day today because well, Monday. But better late than never as the saying goes!

Anyway, today to brighten up a chilly Monday, I decided to wear one of my trusty favourite liquid matte lipsticks from theBalm’s Meet Matt(e) Hughes mini range.

Now, I’m sure by now y’all are so sick of me talking about how much I love these lippies, but I have to admit, this one was the last in my set of minis, and I haven’t quite ended on the high I thought I would with it.

First things first, the formula is perfect. I love the drying time, I love the pigment and colour pay off, I love the lasting power. I love everything about every shade I’ve worn up to now, but today’s shade, Doting, was just not quite as fabulous as I’d hoped it would be.

I love coral shades and orange tones, and I guess I was hoping that there would be a bit more of a bright pop with this shade, hence why I left it to last. But it just felt a little dull, and didn’t have the same great impact that the other shades have had for me.

As many of you will have seen, I’ve worn all the other mini shades: Charming, Committed, Loyal, Dedicated, and Sincere, and had glowing reviews for every single one. So it saddens me to not have a glowing review for this shade too.

Don’t get me wrong, I like it, how could I not when I love the formula so much? But, in this case, I think maybe the matte formula has dulled the shade a little too much taking away any Pop there might have been. There’s nothing wrong with that really, it’s fine, it’s just not what I was hoping for.

Is it just me or what do you guys think? Could it be better, brighter?!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 54 | NYX Matte Lipstick in Shade Butter

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of butter? For me, it’s the  rice creamy, and that’s exactly what came to mind when I tried out today’s shade, Butter, from NYX.

Generally I really like NYX products, I’ve tried a few of their lipsticks and I’m obsessed with their vinyl liquid eyeliner, so I had high hopes for their matte lipstick which I used today for the first time.

I’m happy to say that the formula is very creamy which is always a good thing when it comes to lipstick, and I also like the matte finish that it leaves on the lips. The shade however is just not for me.

Here’s the thing: when I first applied it, I didn’t like it at all. I wish I was cool enough to pull off a grey toned lip but I’m really not! Though it did start to grow on me a little throughout the day, I don’t think it will become a regular wear for me, but it was fun to try something a little out of my comfort zone.

The fact that I didn’t like the shade kind of made it hard for me to decide what I really think about the formula too. Overall it wears well, the pigment isn’t bad, and it’s non-drying. But did I love it?  Did I even like it? Well, I suppose I lind of liked it, but that’s where it ends for me.

I think to really judge it properly I’m going to have to try it again in a much warmer toned shade so I can give it a fair chance so the jury is still out on this one for now. But, it’s nice to do something different every one in a while and I’m glad I did that today!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 53 | PS… Matte Long Last Lipstick in Shade Fizz

If you caught the last post I wrote about Penneys’ PS… Matte Long Last Lipstick, you’ll know that I was so impressed by both the pigment and formula.

I had wondered if this was just because I liked the colour so much, but today, after trying it again in a different shade, I’m still really liking it. In fact, I think I’m liking it even a little bit more now.

Today’s shade, Fizz, is a gorgeous bright neon orange shade and I’m absolutely loving it! It’s perhaps a little brighter than I would usually opt for mid-week, but I couldn’t resist trying it today and am so glad I did.

The formula has a super matte finish while still being creamy, the colour doesn’t drag or pull and the pigment is just brilliantly opaque. Aside from liking it for all those reasons, it also has great lasting power too.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I still can’t believe the quality of this range given its price point. At just €2 for me, Penneys have really outdone themselves with this lipstick range and I can’t wait to try out some more shades.

Have you tried any of these PS… matte lipsticks? I’m dying to hear whether you think they’re as good as I do so comment below and let me know!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 20 | PS… Matte Lipstick Crayon in Vamp

Today’s Simply Lippy choice is another brilliant lip product from Penneys’ PS… collection (Primark for my non-Irish followers), and is one of their matte lipstick crayons. Once again, this is a lip product I hadn’t tried before now, but the lovely ladies from Penneys sent it to me a few weeks ago and I loved the look of it.

The shade, Vamp, is a gorgeous dark purple berry shade, and we all know I love a berry lip. I don’t often use lip crayons but when I do, I generally really like them and this one is no different.

Application is so easy with the creamy formula, and once again the pigment is spot on, probably due to its soft finish which I would describe as a satin matte rather than a more traditional matte. Its lasting power is its only flaw, but that can be forgiven due to its great price point.

It’s not a shade I would wear every day as it’s very dark purple, and ‘vampy’ as the title suggests, but I love it nonetheless! There’s something so sultry about a very dark lip and every once in a while it is a fab shade to wear.

I’m going for a girly night out with my Mum tonight and therefore decided to go for a strong makeup look to match this lip colour. I opted for a grey/purple smokey eye and I think it works well with the berry lip. It’s not a look I would usually chose for daytime, but as it’s Friday I thought, what the hell!

I even bumped into an old friend of mine who complimented it so that’s always lovely to hear. It’s strong and bold, but if you can’t be adventurous on a Friday then why can you be?!

What do you guys think of this shade? I know it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 16 | theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long Lasting Lipstick in Charming

Happy ‘Blue Monday’ everyone! Apparently today is officially the most depressing Monday of the year, but thankfully my day hasn’t been too bad. Although, it is my last official Monday off before starting my new job next week so that is making me very nervous! On the positive side however, today I got to try out a new lipstick for my Simply Lippy challenge, and not only was it a new shade for me, but also a completely new brand.

theBalm, is a makeup brand I’ve followed with interest for a while now, and their liquid lipsticks have been on my wish-list for ages, so when I saw them on sale after Christmas, I of course had to buy them and try them out.

I bought a set of six mini lipsticks from their Meet Matt(e) Hughes collection and the lippy I chose for today is a gorgeous red-berry shade called Charming. As the title suggests, this lipstick has a lovely matte finish and is very easy to apply and blend on the lips. At first, the formula is quite wet, but liquid lipsticks tend to be like that, and it dried very quickly so no problems there.

The only downside to this formula is that there really isn’t any hydration in it, and my lips did start to become a bit dry throughout the day. However, my lips are particularly dry at the moment so I’m not going to make any decisions on how I feel about it just yet. Plus, the pigment is fab and the lasting power is insanely good too, so overall I think it’s a thumbs up from me.

I also love that this lipstick came in a mini size; sometimes it’s hard to know if a shade will suit you, or whether you’ll like the formula or not, so this is a great way to try out a new product without it costing too much.

I know a lot of beauty lovers are big fans of theBalm, and their Mary Lou Manizer highlighter is a new obsession of mine (and most other bloggers I know!). Have you tried any of their lip products? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

If you’re enjoying my challenge so far, I’d really love for you to please come follow me over on social media too. I post pretty pictures on Instagram, chat all things beauty releases and favourites on Twitter, and share weekly lipstick videos on Facebook. And I’ve got my very own challenge hashtags as well – #simplylippy and #365days365shades, and you can follow my journey by searching for those too.
