Maybelline do some great lipsticks, especially liquid mattes, so when I saw this bright berry shade in the shop the other day, I of course bought it to try it out.
It’s no secret by now that I love a berry lipstick shade, and while this is more pink than anything else, it still has a lovely rich tone to it that was just deep enough for me to like.
The matte formula is very smooth and though it’s wet when you first apply it, it dries in very matte and doesn’t budge once on. The pigment is bold and strong with great colour pay off, and leaves a full coverage, opaque finish on the lips.
Sometimes with mattes your lips can get very dry, especially mine, but I was quite surprised to find that this didn’t dry them out too much at all. It wasn’t hydrating, but I didn’t need to worry about applying balm over it during the day which is always a good sign.
The texture is smooth which makes it easy to blend and apply, and the thin brush head allows for quick application too. Because of the thin tip, you can line the lips easily then fill the colour in with just a light layer.
Although it was slightly more pink than I had expected, I really liked wearing the shade and think it will be a fab shade for summer too. It certainly helped to lift my tired looking face today anyway, and god knows, I need all the help I can get with that right now!
If you’ve been a regular reader of my challenge, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of these colour balm crayons from Maybelline and have really liked all the shades I’ve tried so far.
Today’s shade is a rich red shade, and although it’s a balm, it has the pigment of any good red lipstick but with all the moisturising qualities of a really good lip balm. And that’s the main reason why I just love these so much!
The formula is thick when you apply it but very blendable, and because you get such a good colour pay off, you really don’t need to apply much at all. It gives the same dramatic pop as some of my favourite red lippies, and though the shade itself maybe just slightly cool-toned for me, I really was so impressed by it.
The fact that it’s a lip crayon makes it very easy to just apply and go, and it kept my lips feeling soft and hydrated all day. It’s quite a bold shade so I don’t think it will be to everyone’s taste, but I do love a bold lip every now and then.
As it’s a balm, it does have a slightly sheer finish so don’t be expecting a completely opaque coverage. But if you’re looking for an alternative to a normal lipstick, then this is a great option.
If you’re a beauty lover then no doubt you will have seen all the hype surrounding these new liquid lipsticks from Maybelline which were released a few weeks ago. I’ve been hearing nothing but good reports, so of course, I had to buy some for my challenge.
Today’s shade is a deep cool toned red, and I have to say my first impressions are that this lippy is incredible! I totally get all the hype, and found myself so surprised by how good it actually is.
The matte ink formula is much creamier than you would expect when you first apply; it is thick in consistency but blends very well, and feels very smooth for a matte formula.
The pigment is incredibly intense with great colour pay off, and it gives your lips a very full coverage too. The angled tip makes application super easy, and you don’t need to apply very much either.
You need to give it a few minutes to dry in properly, but once it’s dry it does not budge off your lips. Like, not at all! It doesn’t smudge, flake or crack, and the pigment quite literally lasted all day long. I barely needed to top it up in the evening before going out for the night either.
It’s rare that a product lives up to all expectations when there is so much hype around it, but this lipstick definitely does. It isn’t drying and wears so well throughout the day, that you really won’t need to reapply it once it’s on.
Having said that, if a matte liquid isn’t your thing then this won’t be for you. I am loving it however, and can’t wait to try some more shades.
I’ve had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Maybelline lipsticks over the duration of my challenge so far. Some of their products like the Baby Lips colour balm are amazing to use, but others, not so much.
So when trying out this duo lippy from them today, naturally I was intrigued to see whether it was good or not, and to be honest, I’m still trying to make up my mind.
There is a two-step process to this lipstick, first you apply the intense liquid lip colour, then once that’s dried in, you apply the lip balm side over it to seal the colour and moisturise the lips.
I’ll start with the positives first: the big claim of this lipstick is incredible lasting power and I have to admit, it is pretty good. While 24 hours may be a bit of a stretch, it definitely held in place a lot longer than most and kept its colour throughout.
The lip balm itself does feel very moisturising, and I like how it gives the colour a soft sheen rather than a super high shine gloss which is what you get with most duo lip products.
However, it does have some negatives for me, the main one being the lack of pigment. Maybe it’s because the shade is so light, but I had to layer this over and over again to try build any real colour. Not only that, but because it’s a liquid and takes a while to dry, it kept dragging the colour underneath meaning I couldn’t get a full coverage finish at all.
I am wondering if it might be better in a darker shade so I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt until I try another shade, but until then I think the jury is out on this one.
I first tried one of these Baby Lips balms from Maybelline back in June and absolutely loved it. While the bright pink shade, Strawberry Pop, wasn’t my usual choice, the formula was just lovely and by the end of the day I was completely sold on it.
So, when I was out doing my shopping the other day and saw it came in some other shades, I decided to pop this lovely peach toned nude into my trolley and see if I still liked it as much the second time around. The short answer is yes, yes I did.
These are very much a balm and because of that, I think the most surprising thing for me was how great the pigment is, especially on a very nude shade like this one today. Sometimes with more neutral shades, the pigment can be a little nondescript, but this gave a lovely, light caramel tone to my lips which I really liked.
The texture is super smooth and the formula itself is deliciously creamy – you just feel your lips being moisturised the second you put this on and because of that, it is just so nice to wear.
Its creamy finish means it is very blendable and the thick consistency allows it to give a perfect even distribution of colour, without any dragging or pulling, which again, is a major positive for a balm.
I am just so impressed with these and after today, am liking them even more. If you’re not big into bold lipsticks, these could be a great option for you because while they feel like a balm, they look very much like a good lippy on.
Maybelline lip paints have become one of the big surprises of my challenge so far; I previously tried two shades with today being my third, and though I wasn’t blown away by the first two shades, I am really starting to love their formula.
Of the two shades I’ve tried up to now, Never Bare, and Stripped Down, the later was probably my preference because it was a richer, caramel shade whereas Never Bare was a super pale pink, and not my usual shade of choice. However, today’s shade is now by far, my favourite!
Maybelline describes this lippy as intense lip paint and that is the perfect description of you ask me. The colour and pigment is incredibly intense and bold, and the fuchsia pink colour is just gorgeous.
I love the richness and brightness of the shade which completely pops the minute you apply it. It’s certainly not for the faint hearted, but I’ve been never one to shy away from a bold lip, and have to say, I am loving it!
The formula itself is creamy which I love, and while I don’t think it’s particularly moisturising, it’s definitely not drying and does feel lovely to wear.
This is the kind of lip colour that would be fab for a sunny, boozy lunch with the girls, or a night out on the tiles, and I’m just a little bit disappointed I didn’t have anything fancy on tonight to wear it to!
As it’s a Sunday night, it’s a night in on the couch for me and my pink lip. But, next time I wear this, I’ll make sure I’m out doing something fabulous!
We all know that feeling; picking up a new lippy while out shopping, excited to open it up and get wearing it. Is there anything better for us lippy lovers? I don’t think so! Therefore, you can only imagine my devastation when I went to try out today’s lippy only to find it completely broken and almost unusable. Nooooo!
Never one to shy away from a challenge however, I reached for a lip brush, and thankfully managed to get more than enough product on it to rock this super bright pink lip.
I don’t need to say again about my love/hate relationship with pink lipsticks; there’s a find line for me and some I just can’t bare. This one however, kind of grew on me and by the end of the day I found myself kind of liking it.
To be honest, I think that’s mainly down to how lovely the formula of this colour balm is. It is thick but creamy, very blendable, and gorgeously moisturising. It has that perfect balance of balm and lipstick feeling like a balm when you wear it, but looking every inch a bold lipstick.
Now, this shade is not for the faint hearted, of you wear it people will comment. And they too will love or hate it! So I did feel a little out of place sitting at my desk with this one on. Having said that, it’s good to be adventurous every once in a while and I loved the fun element that came with wearing it.
I only recently said how much I’ve come to like Maybelline lip products; I’ve yet to try one I don’t like and today’s lippy just confirms once again what nice products this brand makes.
If you’re in the market for a lip crayon that’s like a balm, then I think this might just be one of my favourite lip crayons yet. But, unless you’re not afraid of bold, maybe hold off purchasing until I buy a few more shades and see how they stack up against this bright beauty!
Throughout the course of my challenge so far, I have tried a handful of Maybelline lippies, all of which I have really liked. The funny thing is, I had never worn a Maybelline lipstick before this year, and now I’m really beginning to wonder why.
For Day 178, I tried out one of the Vivid Hot Lacquer liquid lipsticks for the first time is a lovely nude caramel shade, Unreal, and once again, was pretty impressed by the formula.
The shade itself is probably slightly more on the cool side than warm side, and I do tend to prefer warmer tones, but the richness of the actual colour made me like this a lot.
The formula itself is very creamy, with an almost vinyl finish to it, and though the consistency is on the slightly thicker side, it is super smooth and blends like a dream. I think what I like about it most though, is the gorgeous vanilla scent which is lovely and not overpowering at all.
This was one of those lippies that kept surprising me throughout the day. When I looked in the mirror, I kept admiring the soft gloss finish, and what’s more, the staying power was very good too. It felt lovely and soft on my lips and kept them feeling moisturised all day.
Maybe it’s just me, but I never really considered Maybelline as a lipstick brand, so I have to say, I’ve been very impressed once again by this lippy and would happily wear it again.
I first wore one of these lip paints from Maybelline a few weeks back, and today I tried out my second shade from the range.
When I first bought these, I had no idea what they would be like, but after being impressed by both the creaminess and the pigment the first time around, I decided to buy a few more shades and see how they lived up to the first one, Stripped Down.
Once again, I’m very impressed by the pigment on these lippies; the opaque finish gives full coverage to the lips and the colour pay off is just brilliant.
Today’s shade, Never Bare, is a bright pink shade which I thought would be more of a rose nude from the look of the packaging, but when I applied it, it was much more ‘pink’ than I had expected.
There’s nothing wrong with the shade per se, it’s just that as many of you guys know already, I’m not that into pink in general. While I do like some pink shades, this one is not really my thing and for that reason, I probably wouldn’t wear it again.
However, when it comes to the formula, I do really like it; it’s creamy and glides on to the lips so easily using the angled sponge applicator which I’m also a big fan of. The staying power is also really good so you won’t have to worry about reapplying this too often throughout the day either.
There are lots of gorgeous shades in this range and I’ll definitely be buying some more to try because I have a feeling the bolder colours will be insane in this formula. As I’ve only tried lighter shades up to now, I’m excited to find out what the others are like.
Well, the bank holiday is over and another week has begun. I don’t know where the days are going to at the moment, today I had a super busy day in work and was late getting home so tonight’s post is going to be a quick one.
For today’s Simply Lippy choice, I wore a lip paint from Maybelline that I hadn’t tried before, but really quite like which was a pleasant surprise given that the last Maybelline lipstick I tried for the challenge on Day 86 wasn’t that great at all.
Never one to shy away from a challenge however, I spotted these lip paints in Penneys over the weekend and decided to give Maybelline another try. And honestly, I’m glad I did.
Apart from really liking the colour, the consistency is very creamy with a lovely pigment, and I really liked the sponge applicator brush and how easy it was to apply too. Just one quick swipe left a gorgeous coverage meaning there was very little effort involved with this at all.
The formula wasn’t particularly moisturising even though it had a creamy texture, but it wasn’t drying either and had pretty good lasting power throughout the day.
I wouldn’t say I loved it, but I definitely liked it a hell of a lot more than the last Maybelline lippy I tried, and think I might look for some other shades in the range to compare it with.
