My Faves Part 11: Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

As many of you will know by now, I often write posts about my most-loved and most-used beauty products as part of the ‘My Faves’ series, and today I want to share my love for Clinique’s Moisture Surge with you all.

This product has been on the market for quite a long time now so many of you may know about it already, but I’ve just recently rediscovered this in my bathroom cupboard and remembered just how much I love it!

For those of you not familiar with this product, Clinique describe it as a gel-creme, which I would say is very accurate, and it is one of the best face moisturisers I have ever used. Firstly because it does exactly what it claims to do, and secondly, because it leaves my skin feeling smooth, hydrated and gloriously plump.

The key ingredient in this moisturiser is Hyaluronic Acid which is a natural component of the skin that is now used in many cosmetic products. It is known for being super hydrating because of its ability to retain extremely high levels of moisture, therefore allowing for quicker, deeper moisturisation of the skin.

Many of you will know by now that I suffer from dry skin and I’m prone to dehydration quite often. As a result, I’m quite strict with the type of skincare products I use because let’s be honest, there is nothing worse than a dry, dehydrated face. But any time I use the Clinique Moisture Surge my skin feels A.MA.ZING! Even after just one day.

There are so many things this product claims to do that I feel its justified in stating so let’s run through them quickly:

  • Hydrating? Yes, every time.
  • Moisturising? Absolutely.
  • Reduces fine lines? You know what, it really does. Now it doesn’t get rid of them of course, but the ability it has to plump out the skin means lines really are reduced.
  • Firming? Well, maybe not quite firming, but plumping definitely.

While you can use this gel-cream both day and night, I tend to use it at night time after taking off my makeup to give my skin a real boost of freshness, and also because it needs a little drying time. But, the minute you apply this on your face it feels better, and when I wake up in the morning my skin is always as smooth as a baby’s bottom!

Yes, as mentioned above, I suffer from dry skin so maybe the results wouldn’t be as dramatic if you have a normal, combination or oily skin type. But if like me, you’re always looking for good hydrating products then this is really worth a try. The only downside to this if I really have to pick one, is that it doesn’t contain an SPF. But if you wear a separate SPF or your makeup contains one, then you don’t need to worry.

I can’t believe I forgot how much I liked this product. I definitely won’t be forgetting anytime soon again that’s for sure!

Have you ever used this? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

My Faves Part 10: Benefit That Gal Primer

Although I spoke a little bit about my love for Benefit’s That Gal Primer in my Airport Beauty Haul post yesterday, I love it so much that I felt it warranted its own dedicated post as part of the ‘My Faves’ series.

I’ve been using this highlighting primer for several years now, it was actually my sister who first told me about it, and she’s equally obsessed with it as I am. And what’s more, we both have very different skin types.

As I mentioned yesterday, the primer is pinkish in colour, and the formula contains light reflecting pigments meaning it has a very soft sheen when applied to the skin. But rather than make you look shiny, it gives the skin the most amazing dewy glow and really brightens up the whole face. I find it particularly great on days where my skin is looking tired and dull, or when the black circles have decided to come out in force!

You don’t need to apply it all over the face but I do. To apply, you just twist the nozzle at the bottom of the bottle to push up the formula and using your fingers, gently rub it into the skin. It blends quickly and easily, and has a very quick drying time which allows you to apply your makeup straight after. Not only that but it smells so frickin’ good too!

My skin is slightly on the dry side, my sister’s skin is probably more combination, but it looks, and lasts, equally well on both of us. I think the thing I love about it most however, is the staying power it gives your makeup. When I apply this primer in the morning, I really don’t have to top up my makeup at all during the day, and not only that, it leaves your skin feeling super soft as well as giving it a gorgeous glow.

I’ve taken pictures without makeup to try show you the difference. It’s subtle, but there’s definitely a difference between before and after. And I like that it’s subtle. It is light and creamy, has no stickiness, and is definitely my favourite of all the many primers I’ve tried. I do have others I really like, but That Gal takes first place for me.

The tube that I have costs €32 and I get about three to four weeks out of it. You would probably get more however if you are only using it around your T-Zone area, I just can’t help but put it all over my face.

Have you tried That Gal? If so let’s discuss our mutual love. Or if you had a bad experience then fill me in, I’m in the mood for a chat! 🙂

My Faves Part 9: Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush Balm

It’s been two weeks since I last shared a My Faves post with you all, but this week I’m back with one of my favourite lip products, Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Colour Rush Balm.

As many of you will know by now, when it comes to beauty and makeup I’m a sucker for lipsticks, lip balms, lip oils, anything lip related really, and that is particularly true of these Rimmel lip balms.

So many brands have balms similar to this, Clinique’s chubby sticks are high on my list, as are MAC’s PatentPolish lip pencils, but for me Rimmel ever so slightly has the edge on them, particularly given their great price point.

The balm is similar in size to other market alternatives, it is a chubby pencil and has a swivel applicator at the bottom. The rich vanilla scent that you get as soon as you open it is just to die for, but thankfully you don’t get a strange taste from it once on your lips. Because as I’m sure many of you will agree, there really is nothing worse than a lipstick or lip balm that tastes horrible!

On application, the balm is super moisturising and has a light, smooth texture meaning it is very easy to apply. Not only that, but the pigment on these is just brilliant, and their smoothness allows you to build colour very well without having to use too much product.

There are fifteen shades in the range but my favourite is 710 Drive Me Nude, a kind of nude brown which I’ve been wearing for about two years now. I love applying this on my lips for light makeup days, particularly as it is so long lasting. I wouldn’t go so far as to say these have a lip stain element, but the colour does last very well whilst being hydrating too.

I never leave the house without lip balm, in fact I always have one to hand no matter where I am, but when you want a subtle pop of colour, these are the perfect alternative to a clear balm.

While I’m not a fan of all Rimmel products, I do love these balms and am also a fan of their Kate Moss lipstick range. So as far as the lippy business goes, they get a big thumbs up from me – they really do know their lips!

Have you tried these balms before? If so then let me know which one is your favourite by commenting below. Or if you haven’t tried them and you’re a lippy fanatic like me, then next time you’re on the search for a good balm why not give them a try.

At €7.99 they are an absolute bargain and I really don’t think you’ll regret it. Oh and if you do try them out, be sure to let me know how you get on as I’d love to hear your thoughts!

My Faves Part 8: Bio Oil

By now many of you will know about the ‘My Faves’ series. And for those of you who don’t,  basically each week I hero one of my all-time favourite products that I use consistently all the time and always have on hand for when I need them.

In many of the posts I talk about my favourite makeup, but there’s also skincare and haircare products, perfume, nail products, in other words all my favourite lotions and potions.

Today I’m talking about a product which I’m sure pretty much all of you are familiar with, Bio Oil. The miracle that is Bio Oil. I’ve been using this for as long as I can remember, at least since I was a teenager, and I never let a bottle run out before restocking.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Bio Oil, it is an oil which contains some incredible ingredients including Vitamins A&E, Lavender, Rosemary and Chamomile oils and, what Bio Oil call their breakthrough ingredient ‘PurCellin Oil’ which ensures the oil is easily absorbed by the skin.

I’ve used this for so many things over the years, I’ve suffered from psoriasis since I was very young so therefore my skin is very dry. Bio Oil is great for putting on bad patches of psoriasis to ease that tight, soreness you get if you’re having a bad break out. Now that I’m older my psoriasis is much better, but I do still suffer from bad bouts, I get very dry elbows and knees and for some reason my forehead is always the first to get hit. Right on the face for all to see! But Bio Oil always helps.

Also, two years ago now I had a minor surgery on my wrist and was left with a very bad scar as a result. I use Bio Oil religiously on this everyday, and the difference it has made has been incredible. Unfortunately I don’t have a picture to show you of what the scar looked like at the beginning, it wasn’t big, but it was a deep red colour and lumpy, but by using Bio Oil everyday I’ve reduced the look of it completely. And although still noticeable, it’s nowhere near as offensive as it was.

It basically can be used for everything. I’ve used it on other minor scars which have all but disappeared, sun burn, and not to mention my stretch marks (I hate to say it but I’ve got plenty of those), which definitely seem to have eased in appearance – I don’t think anything can magically make them go away but this helps believe me!

None of the ‘My Faves’ posts are advertisements, if you choose to try them then that’s great, if not then that’s great too, I just hope you enjoyed the read! The purpose really is just to talk about the things I love, and products that I get multiple use out of over and over and over again. I love Bio Oil, I mean I really love it, love it. If they ever stopped making it I literally don’t know what I would do! There are so many products on the market that sometimes you can get swept away by all the advertising (well I can anyway), but there’s a lot to be said for those old faithful products that never let you down too.

Bio Oil comes in three sizes, I have the 60ml bottle which costs €12.49 in Boots, but there are two other bigger sizes as well.

My Faves Part 7: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

I’m a day late with this week’s ‘My Faves’ post so you’ll have to forgive me, I’m having a pretty crazy week this week so my blogging has suffered as a result. But I’m back in the saddle now as the saying goes, and ready to tell you all about my next favourite product, Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream.

Now, if you haven’t heard of Eight Hour Cream and you’re a beauty lover, then I’m going to assume you may have been living under a rock for the past few years because this little gem has become a cult favourite amongst beauty professionals and beauty lovers alike! And really, there’s no guessing why.

This cream is more of a balm/gel consistency, but is a must-have for any handbag or home. I’ve been using it for about ten years now, and it has seen me through sore cracked lips, dry cuticles, insect bites, cuts, grazes, sunburn – you name it!

Officially described as a skin protectant lotion, Eight Hour Cream contains Vitamin E which acts as an antioxidant, and a skin-soothing beta-hydroxy acid formulated by Elizabeth Arden to encourage smooth skin. It also contains Salicylic acid and seed oil.

Not only is this quite literally a miracle cream, the 50ml tube lasts forever as you only ever need a very small amount when applying to skin. Although you can apply as liberally as you like, this stuff is so good you really won’t need to.

Beauty products are a very personal thing and we all have our favourites, but this is one product I think every girl should have. It’s €35.00 so I know it’s not cheap, but trust me, you’ll never regret buying this, particularly if in the summer you are prone to insect bites. Trust me when I tell you this will get rid of the itchiness like nothing else!

Is anyone else a big fan of Eight Hour Cream? If so comment below and tell me what you use it for. I know I can’t be the only one obsessed with it!

My Faves Part 5: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick

It’s that time of the week again where I talk about some of my favourite makeup and beauty products and given that the sun has been shining all week, I think today is the perfect day to tell you about one of my all-time favourite lipsticks, YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Shade 13, Le Orange.

I have been wearing this shade for about three years now, and in the summer it never leaves my makeup bag. As the name suggests, it is a vibrant bright orange shade and gives your lips the perfect pop of colour for sunny days or summer nights.

The Rouge Pur Couture range of lipsticks have both satin and matte finishes, and this one is a soft satin. It is super hydrating and moisturising, and it smells absolutely divine. I’m kind of weird when it comes to lipstick smells, I could happily sit and smell them for ages (don’t judge me!).

Now YSL lipsticks can be a little on the pricey side at €33.00 a pop, but as I went to stock up on another one for summer the other day, I realised Debenhams currently have them on sale so if you love these lipsticks or want to give one a try, you can currently get them for €26.40! Trust me, this is a bargain.

My Faves Part 4: YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Mascara

Every Wednesday I do a beauty review, not on new and exciting products, but on my old favourites. The products that I never go without, that are always in my makeup bag, and that have seen me through a lot over the years.

If you haven’t read any of ‘My Faves’ posts yet, I’ve talked about the Eve Lom Rescue Mask, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish highlighting powder, and NARS Orgasm blush. Today I continue the series with my ultimate favourite mascara, the YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils mascara.

Now, I actually am a big fan of a lot of mascaras, so you’ll probably find me talking about many different mascara products over the next while, but this one is my ultimate, ultimate favourite! I always come back to it, always have one in my makeup bag and it never lets me down.

First off, I love the gold packaging that it comes in. It’s got a metal feel to it rather than plastic so that makes it a winner anyway for me.

The brush head is straight which is becoming more unusual with mascaras, a lot of brush heads now tend to be curved but I’ve got to say, I’m a fan of the straight brush. The bristles are soft so they don’t hurt your eyes on application, and they give your lashes a lot of volume with just a few strokes.

I like a good amount of mascara on my lashes so I do dip the brush a few times during each application, but by doing that, my mascara lasts all day long and my lashes look much longer than they actually are. And let’s be honest, that’s pretty much what we all strive for when it comes to lashes. Well, I do anyway!

All in all, this product does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s volumising, long lasting and makes your lashes look fab. It’s priced at €32.50 and while there are other great mascaras on the market for cheaper, this one is definitely worth the spend in my view and hence why it’s this week’s My Fave Product!
