Simply Lippy Challenge Day 3 | Rimmel Only 1 Matte Lippy in Trendsetter (700)

It’s day three of my Simply Lippy challenge and I’ve gone for an earthy nude shade from Rimmel. I’m still feeling a bit ‘meh’ with this damn cold so I wanted something subtle for today’s makeup look.

Back in October, Rimmel sent me some of their new Only 1 Matte lipsticks which claim to be creamy and non-drying, with a matte finish and good staying power. So naturally with claims like these, I was very excited to give them a try.

I like the Kate Moss range from Rimmel so I thought these might be good, but they are not just good, they are amazing! After trying them out for a few days, I couldn’t get over how good the colour pay off was or how well they lasted on my lips.

Even though I was really impressed, I wanted to put them to the test a bit more as I always try things thoroughly before recommending them here so I can give you an honest review. Anyway, to get a second opinion, I gave one to my bessie to try out and she is loving them as much as I am. In fact, I think she may even love them a little more! So all in all, I think Rimmel are on to a winner here.

The shade I’m wearing today, Shade 700, Trendsetter, is one of my favourites in the collection and I’ve been wearing it a lot over the past few weeks. I would describe is as a beige-nude, but with an earthy undertone. So in other words, even though it’s a nude, it still gives good colour and definition to your lips. And as you can see from the photos, it’s pretty warn down already so I’m pretty sure I’ll be repurchasing this!

If you missed my Day 2 challenge post you can catch up here, and don’t forget you can follow my journey on my social media pages or by searching for the #simplylippy and #365days365shades hashtags on InstagramTwitter and Facebook.

I hope those of you who are back to work today are surviving the post-Christmas blues and I’ll see you all tomorrow for Day 4.

Hello 2017, Hello Simply Lippy Challenge

Happy New Year!

Well we’ve had an interesting start to 2017 so far… Is it a bad omen when your husband falls on New Year’s Day and needs to get stitches? Here’s hoping it’s not, and thankfully all is fine, so I’m hoping that’s our bad luck for the year over with now!

Anyway, if you caught yesterday’s blog post, you’ll have read all about me saying goodbye to 2016 and welcoming the new challenges and changes that 2017 is going to bring. There’s going to be a few new beginnings for us this year, and it’s already shaping up to be a busy one with some weddings and big birthdays on the way, but throughout all of this, my main goal is to keep writing and bring some life back into my blog.

Towards the end of last year my blogging fell by the wayside a little; with travelling and all the excitement of Christmas, there just weren’t enough hours in the day to plan posts, write and take photographs, so November and December were pretty poor on the blogging front. But with all new years’ come new challenges, and to make sure I keep myself focussed on the blog, I’ve set myself a very specific new challenge for 2017.

Okay. Here it goes…

This year, I’m challenging myself to a 365 day beauty challenge – the Simply Lippy challenge. This challenge is essentially a lipstick challenge where, for every day of the 365 days of 2017, I am going to try out and wear a different lipstick. Yes, that’s 365 days, 365 shades. Here’s how it’s going to work:

  1. The Lipstick challenge can consist of lipstick, lip balm, lip gloss or lip cream.
  2. No product can be used more than once for the purposes of the challenge.
  3. I have to post every day either on the blog or my social media pages, detailing my choice of lip product for that day along with photos.
  4. If it’s a new lip product I will do a mini review.
  5. I will aim to do a round up post or video of my favourites and least favourites at the end of each month.
  6. My first target is to get to 100 days, and if I get to that then I’ll keep going to 365.

Well, what do you think? Have I any chance in hell of completing this challenge? Who frickin’ knows, but I’m certainly going to give it a shot. I think my little collection below is enough to give me a good start, but after that, the real challenge begins!

If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know by now that lipstick is my vice. I’m obsessed with all things lip related, so this seemed like a fitting challenge for me, and one that (hopefully) won’t break the bank. For those of you not so much into beauty, don’t worry, I’ll be writing regular blog posts too, but there will be a lot more focus on beauty from here on in.

My first post of the year to kick off the challenge will be live shortly (it would have been up a lot earlier if it wasn’t for our drama today so apologies about that!).

And don’t forget to come follow my social media pages to see how I’m getting on:

I’ll be using the following hashtags throughout the challenge #simplylippy and #365days365shades so you can follow my progress by searching for those too.

Now, I better go get started… Wish me luck!

Farewell 2016…

As another year draws to a close today, I wanted to share one last post with you all for 2016, a year that was a crazy whirlwind of travel, adventure and change for me. This day last year, I was newly married, fresh out of wedding planning, and looking for a new way to occupy all my spare time now that my days weren’t being spent researching wedding themes on Pinterest and buying up half of Etsy for the big day.

If you’ve read my blog introduction, you’ll already know this information. But for those of you who are not familiar with my story, then allow me to rehash…

Blogging was something I had done before and loved. I missed writing for myself desperately, and I also knew there was a chance my job would be changing, so in order to give myself a new creative outlet, this day last year, on 31st December 2015, I decided it was time to return to one of my first loves, writing, and set up this little blog, Simply Sorcha.

I didn’t know the direction Simply Sorcha would take, I didn’t even know what I was going to write about, but I knew I wanted to write. Since that day I’ve shared almost every day of my 2016 journey with you all, from my wedding photos, my travels and adventures, my beauty loves and loathes, my good days and bad.

2016 was such an incredible year, it had some tough moments like being made redundant from my job and closing a chapter on an incredible journey in a company I loved, but it was also a year of new adventure and discovery with the year of the holiday. I’m sure many of you are familiar with our year of the holiday plan by now, we started out 2016 with a plan to visit as many new places as we possibly could and I think it’s pretty safe to say we achieved our goal.

The year of the holiday was a huge success consisting of 25 destinations, 22 flights, 13 weeks, 9 countries and 3 continents, all within one year. We visited Paris, Rome, Kerry, Ibiza, London (twice), Marbella, Cork, Ubud, the Gili Islands, Seminyak, Cairns, Townsville, Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays, Rockhampton, Fraser Island, Noosa, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Surfer’s Paradise, Byron Bay, Port Macquarie, Sydney, Melbourne, Bangkok, Ko Lanta, Dubai, and of course, home to Dublin.

We saw some beautiful places, met some incredible people (weird and wonderful), stayed in some amazing hotels (and some questionable ones!), but most of all, we did it together. And we laughed every step of the way. I still have posts to share on my travels, and they will be up early in the new year for those interested.

All in all, it will be hard to top 2016 but already we know it’s going to be an exciting year of new beginnings. I’m starting a new job in a few weeks, Dave is celebrating a big birthday, and most importantly of all, I’ll be continuing my blogging journey.

As the year of the holiday and blogging successfully for one year challenges are both officially over now, it’s time to create a new challenge for myself for 2017. This one is far less extravagant than the year of the holiday (which I’m sure our bank balance will be happy about), and is essentially a blogging challenge as opposed to a life challenge. It is beauty related, and focusses on just one thing, my favourite makeup product of all the makeup products, lipstick.

More will be revealed tomorrow, when day one of my 2017 challenge begins, but for now I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year, and all the best of health, happiness, love and success for 2017.

Special thanks to all the amazing bloggers I’ve met this year, the events I’ve been invited to and attended, the blog posts that have inspired me, and all the new friends I’ve made through Simply Sorcha. And to all my readers all over the world, I hope you keep coming along for the ride!

Here’s to a wonderful 2017 for us all.

Dear WordPress…

…In 2017 I promise to be a better blogger!

Hi everyone, I’m back. Please forgive me, it’s been a month since my last blog post but life has been pretty crazy. Since we got home for our trip we’ve been busy catching up with friends and family, and of course getting ready for Christmas.

I took some time away from the blog and social media in general to switch off, reframe my blogging goals and to have a think about where I’m going to go with it next year. Although I’m still not 100% sure, I think I’m beginning to get there. It’ll still be beauty and lifestyle related, but now that the year of the holiday has come to an end, it’s time to set myself a new challenge. What that will be however, is still to be decided!

For now, I just want to thank all of you who have stopped by to read my blog this year, for commenting, liking and following, and for sharing this journey with me. I know I’ve been absent of late but I’ll be back to my old blogging self in the New Year.

So from my family to yours, I wish you all a wonderful, happy and peaceful Christmas, and all the best of everything for 2017.

See you all soon…

Resolution Time

resolutions-1

In keeping with all things New Year, it’s time to write my list of New Year’s resolutions. I know I’m a little late to the party, but better late than never eh?!

I wouldn’t say I have the best track record when it comes to keeping New Year’s resolutions or goals that I set for myself, I always have the best intentions but one thing leads to another throughout the year and more often than not, resolutions get forgotten. Yes there are the old reliables that appear on my list every year such as losing weight, getting fitter, managing to squeeze into those size 10 jeans that have been sitting in my wardrobe for the past five years… But let’s call a spade a spade here, they aren’t much craic as resolutions go, so this year I’m focusing on positivity.

For 2016, I’ve decided my resolutions are all going to be things I REALLY want to do and I’ve narrowed it down to four, achievable goals. Would I say no to having a body like Beyoncé? Of course not! But while I’m waiting for that to happen, I’m going to push on with these:

1. Write More

Tick! Well, this blog is the first step and you all know by now I’m so nervous I might pee my pants. But I’m writing, and that’s a helluva lot more than I was doing five days ago.

2. Experience the Year of the Holiday

Ahhh the Year of the Holiday. This is something a good friend told me about before I got married. A couple she knew spent their first year of marriage travelling to all the places they wanted to see before they settled down, bought a house and started on the baby making. I told Dave about it not long before we tied the knot and we both agreed we had to jump on board that bandwagon and have some fun before it’s time for the serious stuff.

With that in mind, we plan on spending the next year visiting new places we’ve never been (or been to together) while also revisiting some of our old favorites near and far. The list is a work in progress, but I think you’ll agree there’s plenty to get us started! We’re currently at twelve locations and counting:

  • Paris
  • Ibiza
  • Rome
  • London
  • New York
  • Nashville
  • Kerry
  • Bali
  • Australia
  • Fiji
  • Thailand
  • Washington DC

Now let’s be honest, unless we win the lotto sometime soon, we’re most likely not going to get to all of those places in the next twelve months and we also have to try squeeze it all in, in between work and real life. But our flights to Paris are booked and I’m hoping I’ll have our Ibiza and Rome flights boxed off shortly too. Yippee!

3. Buy Something Fabulous I Can’t Afford

I’ve had my eye on a new Chanel quilted lambskin flip bag for quite some time now and I think this year is the time to purchase (but shh, don’t tell Dave!).

4. Worry Less

I’m a divil for the worrying but this year I’m making a conscious effort not to sweat the small stuff. I’m not gonna lie, this could be a toughy as each year brings its own stress. But hopefully I’ll be so busy writing and having fun travelling that I won’t have time to worry!

So there we go folks. It’ll be a challenge but I’m moving full steam ahead.

Have you any fun New Year’s resolutions for 2016?
