Simply Lippy Challenge Day 204 | Penneys PS… Matte Lipstick Crayon in Shade Tease

A few weeks back I tried out one of the new matte lip kits from Penneys and was pretty sure it was my favourite PS lipstick so far, until I tried this fab neon pink matte lip crayon.

As generalisations go, I love lip crayons and I love matte finishes, so that was a good starting point. But what really made me love this, was the amazing neon pink pigment which kept me smiling all day long.

Sure it helped that it was a hot, sunny day in Dublin, and this is exactly the kind of shade that’s perfect on a day like today. But apart from the pigment, the matte formula is very blendable and easy to work with, and the colour pay off is brilliant too.

As with some matte finishes, I was concerned this might be a bit drying or dehydrating, but it wasn’t at all, and was more creamy than expected. It wasn’t balm like or anything, but the fact that it didn’t dry out my lips was a big plus for me.

It won’t last as long as some of its matte counterparts from other brands so you will have to reapply. But, given that this is a budget brand and the shade was so fabulous, I can forgive the staying power!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 195 | Penneys PS… Matte Lipkit in Shade Lady in Red

During the week I came home to the most amazing package from the lovely ladies in Penneys; four of their new matte lip kits in the most incredible bold shades. As you can imagine, I was super excited to give these a go so chose a deep red as my Day 195 choice.

First things first: I cannot believe these are from Penneys! The pigment is quite literally, insane it’s so good, and honestly could easily hold its own against any of the top liquid matte lipsticks on the market.

I’ve never been hugely drawn to lip kits as I don’t tend to wear lip liner, but the liner in this kit is so creamy and easy to use, you could nearly use it as a lip crayon on its own! The pigment is equally as good, and the smooth texture makes for a very fine application which is great in a liner.

The lipstick itself is smooth, and although quite wet when you first apply, it dries in no time at all without any dragging or pulling, and leaves the most incredible dramatic pop of colour on the lips.

From the moment I applied it I loved it, and I just knew it was going to be a good lipstick day!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, my lips are a bit drier than normal at the moment so I was nervous that this might make them a whole lot worse, but, it really didn’t at all.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not moisturising and it’s not hydrating, but it’s not drying either and that makes it a complete winner in my book. Plus, it costs €4. Four frickin’ euro people!!!

All the shades in this range are bold and dramatic and I just can’t wait to try the others out. As always, I’ll keep you posted, but for now I will love you and leave you, and go swoon over this lippy a little bit longer!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 191 | Penneys PS… Kiss Proof Liquid Matte Lipsick in Shade, Shadow

If you’ve been following my challenge for the past six months, you will already know that I’m a big fan of Penneys (Primark) beauty, and have been so impressed by many of their lipstick offerings.

Today’s lipstick is one of their liquid mattes, and I have to say, so far I think it’s pretty good. The consistency is quite wet initially, but after a few minutes it starts to dry in and you’re left with a nice opaque colour on the lips.

The opaque colour is down to a great pigment which I’ve found many of their matte lippies have, and even in a very pale shade like this one, you can still get a good colour pay off.

It dries in without drying out the lips, and is very easy to layer if you want to build up the colour. As I chose a very unusual grey shade for today, I did layer this quite a bit to get a stronger colour, but it didn’t drag the formula at all which I was pleasantly surprised by.

In all honesty the shade itself isn’t really my thing, and I don’t think I’ll wear it again. But I do like trying something different every now and then, so it was good to do that.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 179 | Penneys PS… Lustre Lipstick in Shade Salsa

Let’s be honest, sometimes there is just nothing better than a bold red lip to make a statement. No stranger to an old red lip as many of you know, I’m always on the look out for new reds and my latest find is this one from Penneys.

I was lucky enough to be sent a few lippies by the lovely Penneys gals a few weeks back, and the minute I spotted this one, I was excited to give it a go.

The Lustre range has a selection of both bright and neutral shades, with a lovely creamy satin finish which I just love in a lippy. I have been very impressed with many of Penneys lipsticks throughout my challenge, apart from a small few, they really have been great quality for a budget brand.

So I loved the cream finish but what else did I like about this? Mainly, the insane pigment. There is no denying how gorgeous the pigment is and the colour pay off is equally good. One layer of this will give you a dramatic pop of colour and lift your makeup look to a new level.

The shade itself was cool toned, and I do tend to prefer warmer shades, but the very slight hint of raspberry in this won me over and I was a big fan by the end of the day.

Have any of you gone out and tried a Penneys lippy yet? I’m dying to have the chats about this one so as always, let me know by commenting below!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 173 | Penneys PS… Lip Kit Metallic Collection in Shade, Molten Lava

Lip Kits have been massive ever since the launch of the Kylie Lip Kits a couple of years back, but if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that I never caved and gave into the hype surrounding them.

However, when I was in Penneys a few weeks back, I noticed these metallic lip lots and obviously had to buy one to see what it was like, especially as I love metallic shades too.

The shade I got, Molten Lava, is a shimmer gold shade, somewhere in between yellow gold and rose gold. I first applied the lip liner part which I have to say, wasn’t that pigmented so I was a bit dubious about what the finished look would be like.

I needn’t have worried though because the liquid lipstick part was lovely and though not a bold shade, the pigment was a lot better than the lip pencil.

It is nice to apply and feels soft on the lips, but does get a bit dryer once it sets. Because of that I thought it would start cracking and flaking, but actually it didn’t at all, and the staying power was surprisingly, pretty good!

I think I’d prefer a bolder metallic shade overall, but I did like this and was very impressed by the formula overall.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 171 | Penneys PS Pro Ultra Shine Lipgloss in Shade 03, Femme Fatale Red

Many of you will know that I’m quite the fan of Penneys’ (Primark) beauty range which I think is such good quality for its budget price point. Of course some products are better than others, but when it comes to lippies, I’ve been pretty impressed.

The lipstick I wore for Day 171 is one that I hadn’t tried before, and is one of their Ultra Shine Lipglosses which I have to say, aren’t bad at all.

The finish is definitely ultra shine and therefore sheer, but the pigment is very good considering, and the colour pay off is especially good in today’s rich red shade.

It gives your lips a brilliant pop of colour with a few light layers, and is definitely one of the nicer sheer finish glosses that I’ve tried recently.

My lips are dry at the moment (nothing new there!), so I did find that the staying power wasn’t great so you’ll definitely need to reapply this several times throughout the day.

But the consistency was lovely and smooth, and I liked how it felt on the lips too.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 165 | Penneys PS… Lipstick &Gloss Lip Duo in Shade Brave

Today I opted for another lipstick and gloss duo from Penneys in a gorgeous, rich berry shade called Brave. Usually this colour would remind me of Autumn, but today I wanted something with a rich tone and this was the perfect choice.

I’ve worn these lip duos several times throughout the challenge so far in both strong and light colours, but today’s shade is by far the boldest shade and therefore I had high hopes for both the pigment and the finish.

The lipstick itself isn’t particularly moisturising, so don’t be expecting much when it comes to that, but the consistency is  lovely and smooth and applies so easily on to the lips if you do try it.

However, on the plus side, the pigment is just gorgeous and the colour is very buildable too. In fact it’s so bold and buildable, I’m really not sure it needs the gloss element because I found today that when I applied the gloss over the lipstick, it kind of dragged the colour a bit underneath.

Before gloss
After gloss

I do find that the lasting power isn’t great so you will have to apply it several times throughout the day, but given this is a budget lippy, I don’t think that’s really an issue.

I was lucky enough to be sent this lippy from the lovely ladies in Penneys to try out, and I adore the shade, but I’m just not sure if I would purchase it in the future.

Having said that, if they had the lipstick part as a stand alone lippy shade in their matte formula, I’m pretty sure I’d wear it all the time because it is just gorge!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 150 | Penneys PS… Sheer Lipstick & Gloss Lip Duo in Shade Modest

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all getting through the week okay. Unfortunately I seem to have picked up some sort of cold or flu, so I missed posting yesterday’s lippy for Day 150.

The lipstick I wore is a sheer nude from the Penneys PS… Lip Duo collection, a range which I’ve worn before in the challenge and quite liked.

This shade is a caramel nude, and the lipstick part has a sheer finish so the pigment isn’t amazing. However, unlike the previous duo’s which had a glitter/shimmer gloss to accompany the lipstick, today’s lip gloss is more of a full coverage gloss in that the gloss isn’t shimmery.

Because of that, the pigment is a lot better on this version, and the gloss really adds an extra pop over the quite light lipstick colour.

As lippy’s go, it’s fine. It’s drying but not moisturising either, and it does have to be reapplied often enough. But while it’s fine, I wouldn’t say I love it.

Having said that, the colour is nice and it does have a lovely smooth texture that feels nice to wear.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 143 | Penneys PS… Liquid Lipstick in Shade 15, Nude

Eeek I know, I’m a little late with my posts this week, so sorry guys but I’ve had one helluva week in work. Thankfully, things are calming down a bit now so I can get back to my challenge posts.

On Tuesday, I wore one of Penneys’ (Primark) liquid lipsticks in a lovely nude shade. If you caught my post from the last time I wore this lippy in a gorgeous Hot Pink, you will know that the thing I liked most about the formula was the colour pay off.

The pigment in this is just so good, even in a nude shade, and it gives a lovely caramel-like pop to the lips which has a warm, almost orange tone to it.

As for the formula, the texture is smooth and quite thick, but like any gloss lip, does need to be reapplied throughout the day. So I wouldn’t say the staying power is great, but to me, that’s its only real downfall.

There is some slight stickiness to it, but nothing too annoying, and I think the shade is a great all-year round shade which would work well in any season.

For a budget lippy, you really can’t go wrong with this, especially if you’re someone who likes a high-shine gloss look!

Do you prefer lip gloss or lipstick? I want to hear your thoughts! I never would have worn much gloss before my challenge but it’s definitely been growing on me over the past few months so if there’s any you think I should try then let me know.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 139 | Penneys PS Lustre Lipstick in Shade, Barely There

Ladies, I’m a little late with yesterday’s Simply Lippy post – I was working late and out last night so I just didn’t have a second to write my post. But, the lipstick I wore, is a little gem.

Penneys have been killing it with their beauty releases lately, and I’m sure many of you know, I’ve become a big fan of some of their lippies. There are one or two I’ve tried that haven’t been great, but I absolutely love their matte collection, and yesterday I tried out this lippy from their lustre collection which I was so generously sent during the week to try out and I really love it too.

The shade I wore, Barely There, is a barely there nude which has a caramel pink undertone to it. Now, I know that sounds strange, but it looks like caramel in the tube, but when you apply it, it has a pink feel about it which I really liked.

The formula itself is gorgeously creamy, and glides on the lips like an absolutely dream. The pigment is very impressive for a budget lippy, and it layers really well to build up a lovely colour without dragging it at all.

I did have to reapply it a few times, but nothing out of the norm for a creamy finish lipstick, and I loved how smooth it felt throughout the day.

I really liked wearing this and so it’s a big thumbs up once again for Penneys; I’ll definitely be trying this out in a few more shades!
