Simply Lippy Challenge Day 252 | Penneys Peachy Keen Lip Soufflé

Penneys (Primark for my non-Irish readers), have been absolutely killing it with their beauty releases lately. The quality of some of their products is really good, and today’s lippy is another little gem.

I’m not sure how new this lippy is, it definitely wasn’t in stores a few months ago, but it’s part of a peach range that I came across when I was picking up some bits the other day.

Peachy Keen, is a lovely soft lip gloss that has quite a vinyl-like feel to it, and is very good quality for a gloss. When I applied this, I was really impressed by the soft feel of the formula, as well as the non-sticky finish which felt quite velvety once applied.

The shade itself is quite pink and I was expecting more of a peach shade. Nonetheless, the pigment isn’t bad for a gloss finish, and as glosses go, it’s one of the nicer ones that I’ve tried.

I’m not a huge gloss fan in general as many of my regular readers will know; I definitely prefer a lipstick to a lip gloss. In saying that however, it is nice to wear one every now and then and I really liked wearing this one today.

You don’t get any moisturising element or hydration with this so my lips did feel like they needed a bit of balm by the end of the day, but the formula itself wasn’t drying.

Given the €2.50 price point, this is a pretty good budget gloss option if you like a gloss, and the size is very handy for throwing in your handbag when you’re on the go too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 143 | Penneys PS… Liquid Lipstick in Shade 15, Nude

Eeek I know, I’m a little late with my posts this week, so sorry guys but I’ve had one helluva week in work. Thankfully, things are calming down a bit now so I can get back to my challenge posts.

On Tuesday, I wore one of Penneys’ (Primark) liquid lipsticks in a lovely nude shade. If you caught my post from the last time I wore this lippy in a gorgeous Hot Pink, you will know that the thing I liked most about the formula was the colour pay off.

The pigment in this is just so good, even in a nude shade, and it gives a lovely caramel-like pop to the lips which has a warm, almost orange tone to it.

As for the formula, the texture is smooth and quite thick, but like any gloss lip, does need to be reapplied throughout the day. So I wouldn’t say the staying power is great, but to me, that’s its only real downfall.

There is some slight stickiness to it, but nothing too annoying, and I think the shade is a great all-year round shade which would work well in any season.

For a budget lippy, you really can’t go wrong with this, especially if you’re someone who likes a high-shine gloss look!

Do you prefer lip gloss or lipstick? I want to hear your thoughts! I never would have worn much gloss before my challenge but it’s definitely been growing on me over the past few months so if there’s any you think I should try then let me know.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 129 | Penneys PS… Super Matte Lipstick in Shade Pure Romance

Okay ladies, tonight’s post is going to be short, but not so much sweet, as today’s lipstick really didn’t do much for me at all.

As many of you will know, Penneys lipsticks have really impressed me over the past few months, with several of them becoming new favourites. So, naturally I had high hopes for this super matte lippy that I picked up a few weeks ago to try out.

Unfortunately, I just didn’t like it at all. It was so super matte that I could barely even get it on my lips, it took about four or five layers to get any kind of colour, and the formula was just dry, flakey and almost crumbled as I applied.

The colour was a very pale peach which I didn’t love either. I may have liked it more if the finish had been creamy or satin, but because it was so dry, I just couldn’t bring myself to like it.

As the old saying goes, you win some, you lose some, and today, I and Penneys both definitely lost.

But that’s the best thing about this challenge; tomorrow is a new day and with it comes a new lippy to try!

Happy 100 Simply Lippy Days… To Me!

Well, if you caught my Day 100 lippy post which I posted a little while ago, you will know that the big day has arrived. Yes, today I reached the 100 day mark of my 365 day Simply Lippy challenge and I’m so excited!

I’m not going to lie, there were days over the past three months or so, where I really hit a wall with the challenge and didn’t think I could keep going. It’s tough doing a daily challenge – I wake up in the morning, take product shots and makeup photos, go to work for ten or so hours, then come home, write my blog post, edit my photos, then share my posts online and on social media. It really is a full time job, on top of a full time job!

In saying all that, I honestly have really loved it, and though I had a brief moment of wanting to quit, I’ve decided to keep going and see if I can make the 365 day mark. I’m running very low on lipsticks, and I’ve a long way to go still, but where there’s a will, there’s a way as the old saying goes…

Over the past few days, I’ve been looking back at all my posts to-date, and I can’t believe how many shades, brands, and formula’s I’ve tried. From high end to budget, from matte to gloss, from liquid to cream; I’ve tried them all! But a lipstick lover’s job is never really done, and there are a lot more for me to try still.

Of course I’ve had some favourites, and some least favourites, but instead of sharing them here, I’m going to do a round up video of my first 100 days seen as I haven’t got around to doing that before now.

In the meantime, here’s a look back at all the shades I’ve worn over the past 100 days…

One thing’s for sure, there will be a lot more from these brands to come, and many more brands as well so I hope you stick with me, and keep following me on my Simply Lippy journey to wear 365 shades in 365 days!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 89 | Penneys PS… Matte Long Last Lipstick in Shade, Bombshell

I feel like I don’t need to go into too much detail about how much I like these matte lipsticks from Penneys (Primark) because I have had nothing but good things to say about every lipstick in the range that I’ve tried so far.

Not only is the formula creamy and smooth, it smells delicious and the colour are just gorgeous, not to mention the pigment.

Today’s shade, Bombshell, is once again not a shade I would ever usually have worn given I’m not really into pink, but it is such a fun shade and I’m really liking it!

It has that wow impact which works well with a natural makeup look, and although I don’t think I’ll be wearing it on a regular basis, I definitely like it for an every now and again shade.

I’ve worn some gorgeous reds and nudes from this collection already, as well as a fabulous orange shade called Fizz which I am in love with and plan on wearing a lot!

Have you tried any of the Penneys matte range? At just €2.00, they really are a great bargain buy!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 20 | PS… Matte Lipstick Crayon in Vamp

Today’s Simply Lippy choice is another brilliant lip product from Penneys’ PS… collection (Primark for my non-Irish followers), and is one of their matte lipstick crayons. Once again, this is a lip product I hadn’t tried before now, but the lovely ladies from Penneys sent it to me a few weeks ago and I loved the look of it.

The shade, Vamp, is a gorgeous dark purple berry shade, and we all know I love a berry lip. I don’t often use lip crayons but when I do, I generally really like them and this one is no different.

Application is so easy with the creamy formula, and once again the pigment is spot on, probably due to its soft finish which I would describe as a satin matte rather than a more traditional matte. Its lasting power is its only flaw, but that can be forgiven due to its great price point.

It’s not a shade I would wear every day as it’s very dark purple, and ‘vampy’ as the title suggests, but I love it nonetheless! There’s something so sultry about a very dark lip and every once in a while it is a fab shade to wear.

I’m going for a girly night out with my Mum tonight and therefore decided to go for a strong makeup look to match this lip colour. I opted for a grey/purple smokey eye and I think it works well with the berry lip. It’s not a look I would usually chose for daytime, but as it’s Friday I thought, what the hell!

I even bumped into an old friend of mine who complimented it so that’s always lovely to hear. It’s strong and bold, but if you can’t be adventurous on a Friday then why can you be?!

What do you guys think of this shade? I know it’s not going to be to everyone’s taste so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 17 | PS… Liquid Lipstick in Hot Pink

Today’s lipstick choice for my Simply Lippy challenge is a bit of an ‘out there’ one for me. I’m not really a pink kind of girl, I never have been, but when Penney’s sent me one of their PS… liquid lipsticks in a super bright pink shade, I was a little intrigued to see how it would look.

As you’ll know if you’ve been following my challenge so far, I’ve been trying to keep my lipstick choices seasonal, in other words, so far wearing shades that are perfect for the Winter months. But, as January is almost coming to an end and we’ll be officially entering Spring soon, I couldn’t resist playing around with this shade today.

The shade, Hot Pink, is a vibrant neon fuchsia with a gloss finish. As with the Penney’s matte lipstick I tried last week, I’m so impressed by the PS… lipstick range mainly because the colour pay off is really brilliant which to me, is so important in a lipstick.

Now, there is one thing with this. And here’s that thing…  Because it has a gloss finish, it doesn’t have the same staying power that a matte liquid lipstick does, and, because it’s liquid, it doesn’t have the same staying power as a regular gloss lipstick. Therefore, I did have to reapply this several times throughout the day.

In saying that however, the lack of staying power doesn’t bother me too much because most gloss lipsticks have to be reapplied during the day. As well as that, the pigment is so good, it’s super affordable at only €2.50, and, because it’s a gloss finish it’s very buildable meaning you can wear it as pale or as dark as you’d like.

So what’s the verdict? Well, if this was a more expensive lipstick I’d be a bit dubious about purchasing, but because it’s just so affordable, I’m pretty sure I’ll be buying some more shades.

It was a misty, dull day in Dublin today and I did feel like this was maybe a little too bright for the time of year and trust me, I’m not one to shy away from a bright lippy shade! If you’re adventurous and a fan of bright lippies however, then this is definitely a fun option. It’s not for the faint hearted, but paired with a pretty dress and a simple lick of eyeliner in the Summer, I think it would look gorgeous on a sunny day.

What do you think of this shade, would you brave it?
