Simply Lippy Challenge Day 193 | MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Shade, Relentlessly Red

Ahhh, Relentlessly Red, one of my absolute favourite lipsticks! I love my challenge, I love trying new lippies, but nothing quite makes me as happy than the days I share my ultimate favourites.

I discovered this shade about a year and a half ago and it was love at first site. I adore the raspberry pink tone, and though some people find the retro matte finish drying, I just adore it for its incredible staying power.

The trick with wearing a retro matte finish is to prime your lips with a good lip primer beforehand. Once you do that, your lips should be nice and smooth, and ready for a stay-all-day look. Or if you’re not a fan of primers, you could also try a lip scrub to help pull away the dead cells and make your lips super smooth and ready to go!

The retro matte formula is dry when you apply it so having your lips as smooth as possible definitely helps to create an even colour, but I find that it blends pretty well so I wouldn’t worry about it too much if you don’t suffer from dry lips in general.

The shade itself is just perfect for this time of year, the dramatic pop will change any makeup look, and it’s a gorgeous choice for holidays too – I’ll be devastated I can’t take it off to the sun with me this year now that I’ve already worn it because usually, this one never leaves my side on holiday!

I love everything about this lippy from the pigment, the colour pay off, the coverage, the staying power; everything! I know it won’t be for everyone because of its dry texture, but if you haven’t tried it, you should definitely have a swatch of it in store to see what you think!

New Lipstick Love Alert!

Okay so most of you will already know about my love of lipsticks, and if you don’t then let me tell you. They are my favourite! They can bring even the simplest of makeup looks to life, they accentuate your lips, you can match the colours to your mood, or any outfit, and mainly they just make you feel good. Well, they make me feel good anyway!

As you all know I was recently in Ibiza and I wanted to get a new vibrant lippy to bring with me. I had built up a collection of MAC empties (for those of you who don’t already know, if you bring six of your old MAC containers back to them to recycle they will give you a free lipstick), and so I went to my local MAC counter and started to browse the options.

I’m always drawn to oranges and corals, so I wanted to go for something slightly different this time. I also wanted to go for  a matte finish as I have a lot of satin and gloss lipsticks.

Anyway, whilst swatching colours on my hands, I discovered a whole range of lipsticks I never knew about, the Retro Matte range, and it was love at first swatch! I don’t know how this range passed me by when it was released two years ago, but I’m very happy to have now discovered it.

I was torn between two shades, Relentlessy Red a pinky-red colour and All Fired Up, a bright fuchsia shade and in the end opted for Relentlessly Red. It has a pink undertone, is fabulously matte, and the lasting power is amazing. I wore it nearly every day on holiday and hardly had to reapply at all, even with the heat of the sun.

I’m pretty sure this won’t be my last lipstick from the collection and am already planning on going back to buy some more. I just keep telling myself I don’t need it just yet, but we’ll see how long that lasts!

As you can see from the photos above of me wearing it, it actually looks a little more pink, however, it doesn’t look quite that pink in real life. The below picture taken in Ibiza of me and the hubby, may give you a better idea of how it looks on.

Have you tried these lipsticks? If not, and if you’re a matte fan, then I’m pretty sure you’ll love these too.
