Simply Lippy Challenge Day 212 | Sephora Colour Lip Last Lipstick in Shade 18, All You Need Is Red

If you caught my post last week on the first Sephora lippy I tried, one of their matte jumbo lip pencils, you will know that I was very disappointed in it. Though the colour was nice, the formula was far too dry and I didn’t like wearing it at all.

Today however, I decided to give the brand another chance by trying out a different lipstick from their long last range, and I am so happy to say, this one is fab!

First off, the colour is amazing. It’s a rich raspberry red which I just adore, and the pigment is insane. It has to be said that Sephora definitely do good pigment, that’s for sure.

Apart from the colour, the thing I liked most about this was its unusual formula. When you first apply it, it is very creamy, so much so, you expect it to have a cream or satin finish. But, after a minute or two it somehow goes from super creamy to super matte and I have no idea how! I don’t think I’ve ever tried a matte lipstick that was incredibly creamy on application, but matte on finish. What’s more, I loved it.

Unlike the jumbo lip pencil, this lipstick although matte in finish, did not dry out my lips at all and the cream element made sure that they stayed in good condition throughout the day.

Of course being a matte finish, the staying power was very good, and it lasted for a good few hours without having to reapply. It says on the packaging that it lasts for 10 hours, but while I don’t think it lasted that long exactly, it really wasn’t too far off.

I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t buy more of these to try because I think it would be lovely in some darker shades for Autumn too.

It is products like this that make me even sadder that we don’t have Sephora here, but there’s always hope that one day it will arrive on our shores!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 207 | Sephora Flash Jumbo Matte Lip Pencil in Shade 02, Coral Express

Like many beauty lovers, Sephora is my holy grail. Whenever I am in a city where there is a Sephora store, I take a visit and happily while away the minutes and sometimes hours, swatching and trying out products to buy. In fact, I have never left a Sephora store empty handed!

But for all the products I’ve bought over the years, I had never try one of their own brand lipsticks so for the sake of my lipstick challenge, I decided to buy a few and put them to the test.

The first one I tried out today, was this jumbo lip pencil, which really is a lip crayon, and though I am completely in love with the shade, I’m sadly not that impressed by the formula.

The pigment is gorgeous and this shade is exactly the kind that I love; it’s bright, bold and the perfect shade of coral pink (it’s called Coral Express though I do think it’s more pink than coral personally). Because of the incredible pigment, the colour pay off is also brilliant so I do love that.

However, the matte formula is very matte and quite difficult to apply. I had to really work hard to apply this on my lips evenly, and a lot of layering was involved. What’s more, when I went to blend it by puckering my lips together, there was just no creamy element at all and even that was a struggle.

By mid afternoon my lips felt so dry that I ended up having to put some Blistex balm on, which I very rarely have to do with a lipstick. And by the time late afternoon came, the lipstick had worn off because of the balm, and I didn’t even bother reapplying it.

The fact that I didn’t reapply is a real tell-tale sign for me that I don’t like something, and it has only happened a handful of times throughout the entire challenge.

The other lippies I bought are different finishes, so I’m hopeful that I will like those a lot more. However, although I love the colour, this lippy just wasn’t for me.
