Simply Lippy Challenge Day 8 | MAC Satin Lipstick in Snob

Happy Sunday everyone, I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. Our weekend has been spent with family; my brother and his girlfriend are home for the weekend so yesterday we had a delicious family lunch followed by a few drinks – so much for dry January, hey?!

Today, for day eight of my Simply Lippy challenge, I’m trying out a new lipstick shade that I’ve never worn before. My gorgeous sister-in-law bought this for me during the week to help me on my journey of wearing 365 lipsticks on each of the 365 days of 2017. It was so thoughtful of her because god knows, I’m going to need all the help I can get to pull this off!

As I’ll be spending the day with her today, I decided to wear this lipstick in her honour and I’m very excited because as you all know, I love trying out new lipsticks.

This lippy is a satin finish lipstick from MAC, in a shade called Snob, which I’d actually never heard of before. As with all satin lipsticks from MAC, the consistency is very creamy, the colour pay off is strong and it isn’t drying on the lips. Just some of the many reasons why I’m such a huge fan of MAC lipsticks.

I would describe it as a pink shade with a purple undertone, and therefore slightly stronger toned than a regular pastel pink. The opaque formula is buildable too meaning you can wear it quite pale, or you can layer it up to make the colour stronger.

Because this is a soft shade, I’ve kept the rest of my makeup very soft too, opting for my current favourite foundation, Armani Luminous Silk (review coming soon), and a soft highlight from my new Becca face palette (review also coming soon).

Have any of you tried this shade, or one like it? I’d love to hear your thoughts so please comment below!

Also, why not come follow my journey over on my social media pages too, I’m on InstagramTwitter and Facebook. Or you can simply search for the #simplylippy and #365days365shades hashtags.

For now, I’m off to enjoy another day with family so I’ll love you and leave you, but will catch you all tomorrow for day nine.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 7 | YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Shade 13, Le Orange

I can’t believe it, one week down in my Simply Lippy challenge and it all went great. I’m sure the excitement is keeping me going at the moment, but I’m really getting into the swing of things and so glad I decided to do this challenge.

If any of you still aren’t sure what the Simply Lippy challenge is about, you can catch up here, and for those of who who’ve been following me for the last while, I really hope you’re enjoying all my lipstick options and blog posts.¬†Don’t forget to send any suggestions my way, and if there’s any lipsticks you are dying to try but want to know what they are like before you buy, then let me know those too so I can give them a test run for you!

I’ve worn a gorgeous mix of colours for my first week, and as these are lipsticks that I already own, I do love all the shades. In fact, I pretty much love all the lipsticks and lip products I own, but I do have my favourites, so the real challenge will be testing out¬†new shades and brands once I run out of my collection!

Anyway, it’s Saturday today and I’m off for a family lunch so I wanted wear a special lippy today. Because of that, I decided to go for one of my favourite ever lipsticks in life, YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in shade 13, Le Orange. I’ve written about my love for this lippy before which you can read here, but it is quite literally one of the best lipsticks I have ever worn. It is creamy, it is opaque, it is long lasting, it is hydrating, and best of all, it smells frickin’ divine!

I’ve been wearing this particular shade for about five years now, but there are over forty shades in the collection. If you haven’t tried this range by YSL, I would highly recommend you do. Call it a January treat when you get paid cause these guys are expensive! In saying that, if I could only have one lipstick for the rest of my life, this would most definitely be it. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty sad to be using it so early in the challenge, but it’s the perfect 0range-red shade for my family day out today.

I’ve always been drawn to rich colours, I wear a lot of oranges, corals, reds and burgundy tones – someone once told me it’s because my star sign is Leo which is ruled by the sun. Who knows, but it could explain why these are always my go-to shades in both beauty and fashion. I just love them!

Don’t forget to come follow my journey over on my social media pages too, or you can just search for the #simplylippy and #365days365shades hashtags on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook either.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 3 | Rimmel Only 1 Matte Lippy in Trendsetter (700)

It’s day three of my Simply Lippy challenge and I’ve gone for an earthy nude shade from Rimmel. I’m still feeling a bit ‘meh’ with this damn cold so I wanted something subtle for today’s makeup look.

Back in October, Rimmel sent me some of their new Only 1 Matte lipsticks which claim to be creamy and non-drying, with a matte finish and good staying power. So naturally with claims like these, I was very excited to give them a try.

I like the Kate Moss range from Rimmel so I thought these might be good, but they are not just good, they are amazing! After trying them out for a few days, I couldn’t get over how good the colour pay off was or¬†how well they lasted on my lips.

Even though I was really impressed, I wanted to put them to the test a bit more as I always try things thoroughly before recommending them here so I can give you an honest review. Anyway, to get a second opinion, I gave one to my bessie to try out and she is loving them as much as I am. In fact, I think she may even love them a little more! So all in all, I think Rimmel are on to a winner here.

The shade I’m wearing today, Shade 700, Trendsetter, is one of my favourites in the collection and I’ve been wearing it¬†a lot over the past few weeks. I would describe is as a beige-nude, but with an earthy undertone. So in other words, even though it’s a nude, it still gives good colour and definition to your lips. And as you can see from the photos, it’s pretty warn down already so I’m pretty sure I’ll be repurchasing this!

If you missed my Day 2 challenge post you can catch up here, and don’t forget¬†you¬†can follow my journey on my social media pages or by searching for the¬†#simplylippy¬†and¬†#365days365shades¬†hashtags on¬†Instagram,¬†Twitter¬†and¬†Facebook.

I hope those of you who are back to work today are surviving the post-Christmas blues and I’ll see you all tomorrow for Day 4.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 2 | Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Night Crimson

Day 2

Hey lovely people. Well, I’m sure many of you have seen my posts now about my Simply Lippy challenge, but if not,¬†you can have a read all about it¬†here.

Today is the second day of my challenge to wear 365 shades of lipsticks for each of the 365 days of 2017 and it’s going great so far. Ha! Let’s be honest, I’m only two days in,¬†but I’m determined to pull this challenge off!

Yesterday I opted for a fab YSL vinyl lip cream red, and today I’ve gone for another fab wintery colour, Night Crimson, from the Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G range. This shade is a deep cherry colour, with a creamy satin finish and therefore is super hydrating on the lips (if you missed my earlier review on this lippy you can catch it here).

I’m still feeling under the weather so I opted for a soft, natural makeup look, and added this fab shade to my lips to lift my face and put some life back into it after the dullness that this dreaded flu has brought.

What do you think of this shade? Given that it’s still very much winter here in Dublin, I think I’ll be sticking with these wintery tones for the next while!

See you all tomorrow for Day 2!

In the meantime, don’t forget, you¬†can follow my journey on my social media pages or by searching for the¬†#simplylippy¬†and¬†#365days365shades¬†hashtags on¬†Instagram,¬†Twitter¬†and¬†Facebook.

Hello 2017, Hello Simply Lippy Challenge

Happy New Year!

Well we’ve had an interesting start to 2017 so far… Is it a bad omen when your husband falls on New Year’s Day and needs to get stitches? Here’s hoping it’s not, and thankfully all is fine, so I’m hoping that’s our bad luck for the year over with now!

Anyway, if you caught yesterday’s blog post, you’ll have read all about me saying goodbye to 2016 and welcoming the new challenges and changes that 2017 is going to bring. There’s going to be a few new beginnings for us this year, and it’s already shaping up to be a busy one with some weddings and big birthdays on the way, but throughout all of this, my main goal is to keep writing¬†and bring some life back into my blog.

Towards the end of last year my blogging fell by the wayside a little; with travelling and all the excitement of Christmas, there just weren’t enough hours in the day to plan posts, write and take photographs, so November and December were pretty poor on the blogging front. But with all new years’ come new challenges, and to make sure I keep myself focussed on the blog, I’ve set myself a very specific new challenge for 2017.

Okay. Here it goes…

This year, I’m challenging myself to a 365 day beauty challenge – the Simply Lippy challenge. This challenge¬†is essentially a lipstick challenge¬†where, for every day of the 365 days of 2017, I am¬†going to¬†try out and wear a different lipstick. Yes, that’s 365 days, 365 shades. Here’s how it’s going to work:

  1. The Lipstick challenge can consist of lipstick, lip balm, lip gloss or lip cream.
  2. No product can be used more than once for the purposes of the challenge.
  3. I have to post every day either on the blog or my social media pages, detailing my choice of lip product for that day along with photos.
  4. If it’s a new lip product I will do a mini review.
  5. I will aim to do a round up post or video of my favourites and least favourites at the end of each month.
  6. My first target is to get to 100 days, and if I get to that then I’ll keep going to 365.

Well, what do you think? Have I any chance in hell of completing this challenge? Who frickin’¬†knows, but I’m certainly going to give it a shot. I think my little collection below is enough to give me a good start, but after that, the real challenge begins!

If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know by now that lipstick is my vice. I’m obsessed with all things lip related, so this seemed like a fitting challenge for me, and one that (hopefully) won’t break the bank. For those of you not so much into beauty, don’t worry, I’ll be writing regular blog posts too, but there will be a lot more focus on beauty from here on in.

My¬†first post of the year to kick off the challenge will be live shortly (it would have been up a lot earlier if it wasn’t for our drama today so apologies about that!).

And don’t forget to come follow my social media pages to see how I’m getting on:

I’ll be using the following hashtags throughout the challenge¬†#simplylippy and¬†#365days365shades¬†so you can follow my progress by searching for those too.

Now, I better go get started… Wish me luck!
