Simply Lippy Challenge Day 237 | NYX Matte Lipstick in Shade MLS24, Street Cred Authentique

NYX is a brand that I’ve grown to love over the past year or so. I swear by some of their products like their vinyl liquid eyeliner which is my current go-to eyeliner, and their matte lipstick range is quickly becoming my favourite lip offering from them too.

The matte finish in these lipsticks is matte without being super matte, and has a lovely creaminess to it when you apply. Because of that, you get all the blendability of a cream finish lipstick but the lasting power of a matte – the best of both worlds really.

The pigment is lovely and the colour pay off is equally as good. Just a few light layers gives your lips a full, opaque coverage which I love because opaque finishes are always my preference over sheer ones.

The shade itself is a raspberry pink, maybe ever so slightly more pink than I would like it to be, but its rich coral tone makes up for that, plus the fact that I just really love the formula.

For their price point, these lipsticks are honestly such great value and a great option if you don’t want to splurge on a more high-end brand.

What do you guys think? Have you tried NYX lipsticks? As always, send all your thoughts and comments my way, I love hearing about all your lipstick loves and loathes too!

And don’t forget, you can follow my lipstick journey on facebook, twitter and instagram too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 236 | Penneys PS… Kiss Proof Liquid Matte Lipstick in Shade, Impose

I’ve tried many Penneys’ lipsticks over the course of the past eight months, most of which I’ve liked, some of which I’ve loved, and today’s shade I’m happy to say, falls into the ‘love’ category.

Recently, Penneys brought out a new range of matte lip kits which I’ve totally fallen in love with, but in the process, forgot how good some of their previous liquid matte offerings were.

Today’s shade is from their Kiss Proof range and is just divine! It’s a very bright pink which we all know can be dangerous territory for me depending on the tone, but actually, I found myself loving this pop of brightness all day.

The formula is quite wet on application allowing you to blend and get an even, opaque coverage before it dries in. Once dry, you’re left with a super matte finish that has really incredible staying power for a budget brand, and although it does get quite dry, my lips weren’t dehydrated after wearing it which was a pleasant surprise.

I’ve tried so many different lipsticks; 236 is a lot, and because of that, I sometimes forget about the lippies that I’ve really liked, but I don’t think I’ll forget this one in a hurry. I’m just obsessed with it!

It has to be said, Penneys are really giving some of the more expensive brands a run for their money in the beauty stakes at the moment and I, for one, am loving it!

If you’re a fan of liquid mattes and you love a bargain, then seriously buy one of these because they could be right up your street.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 235 | Wet n Wild Megaslicks Balm Stain in Shade E1581, See If I Carrot!

Many of my regular followers will know that I’ve become quite the fan of these balm stain lip crayons from Wet n Wild over the last six or so months of my challenge. I’ve always liked lip crayons in general, my favourite being Clinique’s Chubby Sticks, but I’ve been pretty impressed by some of the more budget friendly brands lately too.

These balm stains are soft, creamy and very nice to wear on the lips. Up to now, I’ve pretty much given all the shades I’ve tried a fairly positive review, some even great reviews. However, for the first time today, I’m a little disappointed.

The shade itself is a lovely orange shade, it’s more orange than coral so I was a bit dubious at first, but it actually looks very nice on, especially as it was a sunny day. The formula is creamy so it does feel like a balm as expected, but for some reason I felt that it wasn’t quite as blendable as previous shades.

Maybe it’s because the finish is sheer, but I found the colour dragged as I was blending which was a little annoying. It also didn’t give the same pop of colour that I’m used to with these and the stain element was very uneven.

Now in the interests of fairness, my lips are slightly drier than normal at the moment so maybe it’s me, and not the lippy itself. But even still, I kind of felt a bit irritated by it and half way through the day ended up putting some lip balm on to blend it all out properly.

You win some you lose some as the saying goes, and today’s choice for me was on the losing side. It was fine, but didn’t quite give me the smile that I’m used to getting from these.

Hello 2017, Hello Simply Lippy Challenge

Happy New Year!

Well we’ve had an interesting start to 2017 so far… Is it a bad omen when your husband falls on New Year’s Day and needs to get stitches? Here’s hoping it’s not, and thankfully all is fine, so I’m hoping that’s our bad luck for the year over with now!

Anyway, if you caught yesterday’s blog post, you’ll have read all about me saying goodbye to 2016 and welcoming the new challenges and changes that 2017 is going to bring. There’s going to be a few new beginnings for us this year, and it’s already shaping up to be a busy one with some weddings and big birthdays on the way, but throughout all of this, my main goal is to keep writing and bring some life back into my blog.

Towards the end of last year my blogging fell by the wayside a little; with travelling and all the excitement of Christmas, there just weren’t enough hours in the day to plan posts, write and take photographs, so November and December were pretty poor on the blogging front. But with all new years’ come new challenges, and to make sure I keep myself focussed on the blog, I’ve set myself a very specific new challenge for 2017.

Okay. Here it goes…

This year, I’m challenging myself to a 365 day beauty challenge – the Simply Lippy challenge. This challenge is essentially a lipstick challenge where, for every day of the 365 days of 2017, I am going to try out and wear a different lipstick. Yes, that’s 365 days, 365 shades. Here’s how it’s going to work:

  1. The Lipstick challenge can consist of lipstick, lip balm, lip gloss or lip cream.
  2. No product can be used more than once for the purposes of the challenge.
  3. I have to post every day either on the blog or my social media pages, detailing my choice of lip product for that day along with photos.
  4. If it’s a new lip product I will do a mini review.
  5. I will aim to do a round up post or video of my favourites and least favourites at the end of each month.
  6. My first target is to get to 100 days, and if I get to that then I’ll keep going to 365.

Well, what do you think? Have I any chance in hell of completing this challenge? Who frickin’ knows, but I’m certainly going to give it a shot. I think my little collection below is enough to give me a good start, but after that, the real challenge begins!

If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know by now that lipstick is my vice. I’m obsessed with all things lip related, so this seemed like a fitting challenge for me, and one that (hopefully) won’t break the bank. For those of you not so much into beauty, don’t worry, I’ll be writing regular blog posts too, but there will be a lot more focus on beauty from here on in.

My first post of the year to kick off the challenge will be live shortly (it would have been up a lot earlier if it wasn’t for our drama today so apologies about that!).

And don’t forget to come follow my social media pages to see how I’m getting on:

I’ll be using the following hashtags throughout the challenge #simplylippy and #365days365shades so you can follow my progress by searching for those too.

Now, I better go get started… Wish me luck!
