Simply Lippy Challenge Day 360 | Sleek Lip VIP Semi-Matte Lipstick in Shade 1002, Private Booth

Throughout the year, I’ve tried two lipsticks from Sleek’s Lip VIP collection, Backstage and Show Off, both of which I really liked. Their formula is very creamy, almost balm like but a lot richer, and as we were having a cosy movie day and not moving very far from the couch, it was the perfect choice.

One of the things I really love about these lipsticks, is the fact that they require little or no maintenance at all. The rich creamy texture makes them very easy to apply, and they leave your lips feeling soft and smooth from the minute you apply.

Initially from looking at the lipstick in the bullet, I thought it would be a lot paler than it actually is. I wanted something very neutral and this shade has the perfect balance for a relaxed makeup day. It is neutral while still having a lovely caramel tone and I loved the warmness of it too.

Sleek is definitely one of the better budget brands that I’ve tried this year, and I’ve always been very impressed with the pigment in their lippies. Though shades like this wouldn’t usually be my preference, I really loved the wearability of this today.

It’s not unlike Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk in tone, just not quite as pink, and it’s definitely a great option for a relaxed makeup day.

As the light wasn’t great today, I took images both with and without the flash to give you a true idea of what it looked like on. I don’t know about you, but to me, it was the perfect accompaniment for a cosy day on the couch!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 330 | Sleek Lip VIP Semi-Matte Lipstick in Shade 1003, Backstage

This Lip VIP collection from Sleek is one of my favourites, if not my favourite of all the Sleek lipsticks. I love cream and matte finish lipsticks, and this has the best of both worlds by being semi-matte.

The last shade I tried, Show Off, was a gorgeous autumnal brown shade that’s perfect for this time of year. Today’s shade however, is a little more summery, as it’s a bright creamy coral but I’m loving it nonetheless!

The formula is so creamy on these lipsticks; it has a super smooth texture that is moisturising and hydrating, making it very easy to both apply and blend.

The pigment is bold with excellent colour pay off, and you get a gorgeous full coverage finish from just one layer. I have to admit, I do love full coverage lipsticks and that’s one of the big reasons why I like this so much.

The matte element to it makes the staying power pretty good, and you won’t need to reapply it too much during the day. It’s not as good as a full matte or liquid matte because of the creaminess, but I really can’t fault it either because it’s one of the best cream finishes for lasting power that I’ve tried.

I really loved the shade of this today and I can’t wait for spring to arrive so I can get lots more wear out of it! What do you guys think?

My Christmas Beauty Gift Guide

Well, it’s that time of year again, my favourite time! I have to admit, I do love Christmas, and I’m one of those annoying people who starts getting excited about it in October. Anyway, as a result, I have been thinking about the perfect gift guide for a couple of weeks now, and have decided to put together a quick post on some of my favourite items and recommendations for you this Christmas.

I’m sure you’ve been inundated with gift guides on social media, and I understand sometimes too much bombarding of information can be a bad thing. But just in case you’re looking for a few last minute ideas, and given that it’s Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend, I thought this might come in handy…

This purchase may be more a treat for yourself than a gift for someone else, but if you like a medium to full coverage foundation then I definitely recommend. I have a review post coming shortly, but in a nutshell, I am in love with it! You’ll need to get colour matched before purchasing, but if you do decide to buy, then you’ll get it for 10% cheaper in Debenhams this weekend than you normally would. It’s pricey at €42 so as the saying goes, every little helps!

€33 from Meagher’s Pharmacy and selected pharmacies nationwide

I’m a huge fan of This Works’ products; apart from smelling incredible, they are packed full of great ingredients and more importantly, they work too! Their Deep Sleep range has been a go-to for me for quite some time; I use their Deep Sleep pillow spray almost every night and love it, and have recently discovered their Deep Sleep Heavenly candle which is divine too.

Candles are always a great gift in my opinion, I love receiving them as well as giving them, and this one not only looks lovely, but will help keep you calm and relaxed all winter long, as well as helping you catch up on some well needed zzzz’s. What better gift than the gift of sleep this Christmas!

This beauty is a bit pricey, but if you can’t indulge a little at Christmas time then when can you?! Jo Malone bath oils are so luxurious; they leave your skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth, not to mention how amazing they smell too. They come in a variety of different scents, but Lime Basil & Mandarin is my personal favourite.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 317 | Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream in Shade 436, Birthday Suit

Sleek is one of those budget friendly brands that surprises me every time I try their products. Overall throughout the year, I’ve been a big fan of their lipsticks, and these matte lip creams are no exception.

Today’s choice is a nude caramel shade, Birthday Suit, and I really liked the subtlety of the shade. It’s a great option for a day when you don’t want anything too dramatic, but still want a good pop of colour.

The pigment is good, but maybe not quite as good in this shade as some of the darker shades I’ve tried from the range, like Bittersweet which gave a slightly fuller coverage than this. Having said that, the coverage was still very good and the colour pay off wasn’t bad either.

As matte formulas go, this is definitely one of the wetter ones, but once it dries in it leaves a nice smooth finish. It’s not hydrating or moisturising, and my lips did start to feel a little dry come the afternoon which is the only (very small) downside to it.

I don’t think I love this quite as much as theBalm’s Meet Matt(e) Hughes or Smashbox’s Always On Liquid, but, for a budget buy, it’s definitely one of the better options and the staying power is really brilliant.

What’s your favourite liquid matte lippy?

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 311 | Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Shade 775, Liqueur

I’ve tried a few of these True Colour lipsticks from Sleek over the past few months in matte and sheen finishes, and overall, have really liked both the formula and the shades.

Today’s shade is a very neutral, nude shade; slightly paler than I would usually wear but with a warm undertone. It’s not quite caramel, but I found myself really liking the  slightly rose tone to it.

It gives the lips a medium coverage, and although it has a sheen finish, it has a relatively thick texture which makes it feel very creamy and smooth on. It has a rich feel about it which I liked, and because of that, the lasting power was pretty good too.

My lips are incredibly dry this week, and I found that this really helped to keep them moisturised throughout the day. While I wouldn’t say that it was completely hydrating, it definitely helped to keep them soft and prevented them from drying out.

As budget lipsticks go, the formula in this is definitely one of the better ones I’ve tried over the past year. It doesn’t have the same luxuriousness that some higher end brands have, but it’s a great budget alternative.

Have you tried any Sleek lipsticks? Make sure you send me on your favourites if you have!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 293 | Sleek Lip VIP Semi-Matte Lipstick in Shade 1004, Show Off

I really like Sleek as a brand and ever since I first tried one of their lipsticks, I’ve been pretty impressed. Some I have liked more than others, but today’s lipstick is from their semi-matte range and I just love it.

My regular readers will know that cream and matte formulas are my favourite, and this lippy has the perfect balance of both. It is rich and creamy, leaving the lips moisturised and smooth during the day, while the matte element means it stays on pretty well for such a creamy formula.

The pigment is lovely, it’s rich but not completely opaque, yet intense enough to give an almost full coverage to the lips. The colour pay off is equally as good, and the creaminess means it blends so well when you apply it.

To be quite honest, I don’t think there’s anything I don’t like about this. Sure, it could probably have an ever-so-slightly better lasting power, but that’s me really clutching at straws because I loved wearing it today.

I think it helped that the colour was the perfect brown-caramel shade for the very miserable, wintery day that we had, but even without that, the finish was just very nice.

What do you guys think of Sleek products, are you a fan of their lipsticks? I’d love to hear what you guys think so let me know!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 288 | Sleek True Colour Matte Lipstick in Shade, Papaya Punch

I first tried one of these matte lipsticks from Sleek back in June in a gorgeous pink shade, Heartbreaker, which I absolutely loved. But, not only did I love the shade, I also really liked the pigment and the formula, so I was excited to try it out in another shade today.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to wear it anywhere exciting as we were housebound for the day due to Storm Ophelia hitting Ireland. But, not even hurricane storm winds can get in the way of my lipstick challenge!

As I wasn’t doing much, I opted for a very natural makeup look; some foundation, blush and a lick of mascara all topped off with a pop of colour from this gorgeous coral lipstick.

The shade is very much my kind of shade; many of you will know how much I love corals if you’ve been following my challenge from the beginning, and I loved the colour of this one today.

The matte formula is a little dry when you first apply, but once you start blending, the creaminess starts to come through and gives a lovely opaque coverage to the lips. The pigment is bold and strong, and the colour pay off is excellent too.

One of the best things about this formula though is the staying power which is very good. I hardly needed to reapply at all during the day, despite snacking a lot, and it lasted very well regardless.

I can definitely see myself wearing these lipsticks a lot in the future, and am just glad this one lived up to expectations today.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 271 | Sleek Matte Me Lip Cream in Shade 435, Petal

I first tried one of these liquid matte lip creams from Sleek a few months back in a lovely deep rose shade called Bittersweet. I really liked both the shade and the finish, so I decided to buy another shade from the range which is my lippy choice for today.

Now first things first, this shade is definitely more of a summer than autumn shade, so I probably should have worn it when the sun was shining a few weeks back. However, it’s nice to brighten up the dull days at the moment and this lippy definitely did that.

Most of you will know that I’m not a huge fan of pale pink or very ‘pink’, pink lipsticks. They kind of just grate on me a little. But this one, has a lovely peachy salmon undertone to it which I found myself really liking as the day went on.

The formula as I mentioned in my last post, is creamy without being too wet, and the drying time is very good leaving a smooth matte finish once fully dried in. It doesn’t flake or crack throughout the day as you wear it, and the lasting power is pretty damn good too.

One thing it isn’t though is moisturising, so I would recommend using a scrub before application or wearing a lip primer underneath to keep your lips from getting too dry. Thankfully, I didn’t find the lippy as drying today as I did the last time though, so that was a pleasant surprise.

As budget lipsticks go, these are a very good choice if you like a matte lip. The colours in the range are rich, bright, and have a gorgeous pigment with medium to full coverage depending on the shade.

2017 has really been the year of the matte lip, and this range is definitely one of the better ones out there. But what do you guys think? Are you a matte lover or do you prefer a more traditional lipstick?

As always, let me know your thoughts by commenting below!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 242 | Sleek Matte Me Metallic Lip Cream in Shade 1042, Rusted Rose

You may recall a few days ago I tried out a lovely metallic lipstick from Catrice in a light rose gold shade. I really like it and because of that, I was very excited to try this offering from Sleek to see how it compared.

First off, they are slightly different in that the Catrice option was a lipstick whereas today’s one is a liquid lip cream. Obviously, that will make the textures different, but I was hoping that the colour and finish would be similar but they weren’t.

Today’s metallic is very much a liquid lip in that it’s quite wet when you first apply it, and because of its wetness, it doesn’t have the same coverage that a matte lipstick version would. As I applied it, I noticed it was dragging the colour underneath so wasn’t really giving my lips the metallic impact I was hoping for either.

Apart from having a metallic finish, it also has a matte finish so I was expecting it to dry in and maybe allow me to layer up the colour. Unfortunately it didn’t really dry in the way other liquid mattes would however, and that left me a feeling a bit disappointed.

The colour itself isn’t really my favourite either; I like the hint of gold that you get when it catches the light, but the ‘rose’ is more purple in my opinion and just not really my kind of shade.

The lasting power was okay, not bad really. But because I wasn’t a huge fan of the colour or finish, I kept messing with my lips all day which probably made it wear off more quickly.

I’m usually a big fan of Sleek lippies so this one caught me by surprise, but you can’t like everything and because of that, I don’t think I’ll be using this again.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 172 | Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Shade, Heartbreaker

I have become such a big fan of Sleek Makeup of late; I love their formulas and pigments on so many of their products, not least of all their lipsticks, and today’s shade is the perfect example of that.

The True Colour lipstick range comes in several finishes, but today’s matte finish just might be my favourite. I hadn’t tried the matte lipsticks until today, but the creaminess of the formula just really made me love it.

Some mattes can be very dry and therefore hard to apply, but because of the creamy consistency in this one, application was easy and it blended very well also.

The pigment is just gorgeous, and I love the bright pink shade. You will all know by now how I have a love/hate relationship with pink depending on the tone and shade, but this one is definitely a winner for me and slightly reminded me of one of my favourite MAC shades, Relentlessly Red.

When I first bought it, I thought it would be more red than pink, but when you apply it, the pink really comes through.

Just one light layer will give a good colour payoff, but a few layers will really make the colour pop even more so I layered it up this morning in the hope that it would stay on, and let me tell you, it really did!

At lunch time today I got a lovely compliment on the lipstick, that was after breakfast and several cups of tea, and about five hours after I originally applied it. I’d expected it to be gone off my lips but when I checked in the mirror, it was still on, looking quite close to perfect.

Because of that, this lippy gets top marks from me today and I can’t wait to try some more of the matte shades in the range.
