Hey There, Tom Ford

I don’t usually share posts like this, but last week I finally got my hands on the most amazing pair of Tom Ford sunglasses which I have been lusting after for over six months now, and I’m just so excited that I’ve decided to tell you all about them.

I’ve wanted to buy a new pair of good sunglasses for a while now, my trusty RayBan’s as much as I love them, are a bit worse for wear, and before they give out on me I thought it best to buy some more.

The sunglasses I got are the Tom Ford Irina’s and they are literally to die for (squeal!) – I just love them. I don’t know about you but I have to try sunglasses on a million times before committing, you know, see how they look with my hair down, my hair tied up, how they feel, all the usual things you consider when buying a pair of sunglasses. And these babies were the first pair I came across that I liked every which way.

One sunny afternoon about two months ago I finally made the decision to splurge and buy them, so off I went into town super excited. But low and behold as I went to pick them up from the shelf they were gone. Gone, vanished, disappeared. I was devastated.

After a frantic conversation with the girl at the counter I discovered that they had only received a limited amount of stock so were sold out, and not only that, but also there was a waiting list for the next delivery, and they didn’t even know when the next delivery was going to arrive because Tom Ford also had a waiting list. Big. Fat. Disaster.

So all Summer I searched for another pair, none quite living up to the expectations I had, leaving me pining for my beautiful Tom Ford’s that got away. That was of course, until last week. Last week when I finally got the call from Brown Thomas to say delivery had been confirmed and they would be back in stock the following day, AND there was a pair available for me. FOR ME. Hallelujah! Thank you sunglasses gods!

Now I know some of you may think this is ridiculous nonsense, getting excited about a pair of sunglasses. And I understand. But I told you, I’m an accessories girl. And you want to know why? Because they fit, they always fit.

I’ve had a turbulent relationship with clothes and fashion all my life, I’ve a curvy shape, new season trends look completely ridiculous on me half the time, and therefore it’s not always easy for me to shop. But I love to shop, and that’s why I love accessories. They absolutely never make me feel bad about myself.

They are just so pretty that I’ve decided to keep them safe until we head off on our travels next month. The first item I can tick off my packing list!

Trend Alert: The Backpack Revival

If you’re any way into fashion you may have noticed the biggest 90s fashion revival yet has begun to hit stores over the past few weeks. I never thought I’d see the day where I was thinking of purchasing one of these again but I should have really known better!

Everything in fashion comes back into vogue at one point or another, and thankfully this is one 90’s trend revival I think I can jump on board with. And no I’m not talking about the choker, I’m talking about the backpack!

Some of you may already know that in less than six weeks, Dave and I are jumping on a plane and beginning a two month trip around the world. Because of that, I need to get myself a good backpack so this trend has come back right on time for me.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on what style, size and colour backpack to get over the past couple of weeks, there are a lot to choose from let me tell you! And because of that, I decided to share my top finds with you all in case you’re on the lookout for a cute backpack for Autumn too.

Here are eight of my top choices currently available both in store and online:

image1xxl.jpg
ASOS Mini Leather Drawstring Backpack €50.67
685041_main.jpg
River Island Black Laser Cut Backpack €35
image1xxl-1.jpg
Mango White Zip Detail Backpack €37
image1xxl-2.jpg
Whistles Mini Verity Leather Backpack €239.99
image1xxl-3.jpg
Whistles Silver Metallic Mini Verity Leather Backpack €246.66
image1xxl-4.jpg
ALDO Chevron Drawstring Backpack €66.67
image1xxl-5.jpg
Love Moschino Quilted Leather Backpack €256
image1xxl-6
ASOS Leather Boxy Backpack €73.33

I’m currently torn between the River Island laser cut mini backpack and the Whistles mini verity option. There obviously is a big price difference but I like the mini size of both. I think mini is definitely the best option for me because the last thing I want is to feel like a teenager again with my schoolbag on my back!

I think I’ll have to mull it over for another while but I’ll keep you posted on what option I go for. I have a thing for the silver metallic Whistles one too but in the interests of travelling practicality, I sadly think I’ll have to pass on that one.

What do you think of the backpack trend, are you going to embrace it this Autumn?

Rome In Oufits

So those of you who’ve read any of my travel posts on our trip to Rome last week, will already know how much I loved it. It’s definitely become one of my favourite places and I’m already excited for the day that I can return, whenever that may be.

I love a good city break and usually tend to do city breaks in the Autumn or Spring so that the weather isn’t too hot and uncomfortable for sightseeing in the midday heat. But this time we decided to shake things up a bit, and booked our trip to Rome for Summer.

For those of you who don’t know, Rome in summer is scorching hot. We arrived to 29 degree heat and it was just gorgeous. Don’t you just love that feeling of heat on your face as you look up to the sky when you’re away somewhere warm?! I do. But with hot, sunny days also comes the obstacle of what outfits to wear that can allow you be tourists without sweating ridiculously and losing any sense of style you might otherwise have had.

Now while I’m not the world’s most stylish fashionista, I love clothes, I love shoes and I love accessories, like most girls do. I know what I like, I think I have fairly okay taste, and I’m a sucker for a mix of high street and designer pieces that can lift an outfit to another level. But let’s be real here, I’m no Kate Moss!

But getting back to Rome… I wanted to make sure I could do everything I wanted to do in the heat, while keeping a little bit of style in the mix too so I deliberated long and hard about what to bring with me to wear. I planned each outfit meticulously, and I’m happy to say although it was roasting, I think my outfits worked out pretty well…

Day to night look – This look was the perfect day to night outfit for a big city like Rome where you spend the day sightseeing but stop off in cafes along the way for a glass of wine and bite to eat. In the evenings it got a bit chilly so my trusty denim shirt was the perfect accompaniment to this maxi dress.

Dress: ZARA, Shirt: H&M Denim Shirt, Bag: DVF Mini, Shoes: ALDO

Ancient Adventures – I got this dress last Summer and it’s just so comfortable to wear. It’s cotton and very lightweight so was just what I needed for a day wandering around the Colosseum and Roman Forum in 28 degree heat.

Dress: H&M, Bag: DVF, Shoes: ALDO

Strapless Sundays – The Sunday of our trip was the hottest by far, the sun was splitting the stones and it was a roasting 30 degrees. To avoid getting tan lines I opted for this old strapless black top and paired it with these super baggy, printed hareem pants.

Top: H&M, Trousers: M&S Printed Hareem Pants, Bag: DVF, Shoes: ALDO

Dinner Date – I opted for casual dinner outfits, I would usually dress up more and at least put on a pair of heels when going out for dinner on holiday, but as you walk everywhere in Rome I decided to go for comfort over height! I got this stripy skirt in New York a few years ago and it’s become one of my favourite travel accessories. It’s so easy to wear and works both dressed up and dressed down.

Top: H&M, Skirt: Cotton On

Maxi Monday – For our last day I opted for this cute maxi skirt which some of you may have seen me wear in Ibiza. For this look, I paired it with a casual t-shirt, making it very lightweight and perfect for wandering the beautiful cobble streets while slurping a gelato!

Top: ZARA Basic Tee, Skirt: Penneys (Primark)

Gladiators in the home of the Gladiators – I don’t think any Summer trip to Rome would be complete without a pair of Gladiator sandals. The one thing I definitely recommend for sightseeing in the heat is to wear very light, but comfortable shoes. On the first day I wore leather runners and it was so warm that I ended up getting blisters on my feet. So for the rest of the trip it was sandals all the way.

Shoes: ZARA Silver Gladiators

If you’re going off adventuring anywhere warm this summer and you won’t be spending your time lying by a beach or pool, then maybe these outfits will give you a little inspiration on what to wear for your adventures…

My next trip away for our Year of the Holiday is to Spain with some of our close friends next month. So I better go start planning those outfits now!

Boho Holiday Inspiration & The Dreaded Bikini Body

This day next week I’m heading off to Ibiza for five days for my sisters birthday. I’ve never been to Ibiza before so naturally I’m very excited, and the fact that we’re going with my siblings, partners and friends makes it all the more exciting.

There will be lots of events going on over the weekend from sunset drinks to pool parties, to dancing the night away so I’ll need lots of nice outfits to wear but I’ve yet to decide on what they are going to be.

When I began my holiday shopping a few weeks back, summer maxi dresses, florals and Boho vibes greeted me in almost every store which was perfect as the theme for our party weekend is Boho Chic. The only problem is, I’m not exactly what you would call bikini ready. I’ve got a good bit of weight to lose, and although that’s the story of my life, I’m so tired of walking into my favourite shops and walking back out empty handed because nothing fits me properly.

I know I’m not the only one that struggles with my weight, it’s like a never-ending up hill battle, and if I’m honest, I’m dreading wearing scantly clad clothing and showing off my arms and legs. But I’m going to try put all of that to the back of my mind and embrace some of the boho vibes on trend for this summer.

As I’m not too sure where to start with my outfits, I’ve turned to Pinterest as I so often do, for some holiday inspiration. I’ve created a Boho mood board to help me decide what kind of looks I want to go with and this is what I’ve come up with…

Now I have the inspiration – if only I had their bodies too! 🙂

Weddings, Bank Holidays & Summer Oufits

Today is a good day, it’s my Friday, it’s a bank holiday weekend and to make it even better, we’re off to the lovely Castle Durrow for my beautiful friend Lucy’s wedding. And to make it even doubly, doubly better, I’m a bridesmaid, yay!

You may remember a few weeks back, we had a Club Tropicana themed hen for Lucy in the stunning Clonabreany House and now the celebrations will continue for the big day itself.

Obviously as I’m bridesmaid, I can’t reveal anything about our outfits just yet, but over the past month or so in Paris and here, I picked up a few bits for summer and I’ve decided to pull some of them out to wear over the weekend. Here’s a look at some of the things I bought:

FashCollage1

  1. ZARA Printed Blazer €69.95
  2. H&M Long Denim Shirt €24.99
  3. H&M Round Sunglasses €9.99
  4. COS Coral Petal Drape Top €59.00
  5. COS Blue & White Stripe Belted Sleeveless Top €69.00
  6. ZARA Nude Embossed Flats €19.95
  7. ZARA Skinny Jeans €39.95
  8. ZARA Printed Dress €59.95

We have pre-wedding drinks tonight, the wedding tomorrow, a second day party on Saturday and another friend’s birthday on Sunday, so it’s definitely going to be a weekend full of celebrations with lots of different outfits needed. The only obstacle I now have is that it’s been more like winter in Ireland for the past few weeks, with hailstones and snow are both forecast for this weekend. So all my outfit planning may go out the window, eeek.

But fingers crossed the snow stays away and I get to wear some of my new clothes.

For now, I’m going to love you and leave you so I can finish getting packed and get on the road.

What I Wore – Wedding

As you know, this day last week I was at my friend Julie’s wedding in the beautiful Borris House in Co. Carlow. I promised last week to share a post on my outfit and make up look for the day, and not one to go back on my word, here it is!

I decided on a black pleated ZARA dress for the occasion, it is an illusion dress that from afar looks like a skirt and top. The top half is like a crepe material, with the skirt part pleated. This dress is so comfortable and easy to wear, and as I’ve put on a few pounds since my wedding (eeek), I wanted to feel comfortable in what I was wearing.

I bought this dress last winter and have already worn it to another wedding. You can never go wrong with a black dress, and there is always so many ways to make it look different with shoes and accessories.

I paired the dress with an oversize neckpiece from Betty and Biddy, a cream, gold and black threaded clutch also from ZARA and black Kurt Geiger pointed court shoes that have a gold trim at the tip.
For my makeup, I wanted a dramatic eye to compliment my dress so I went with soft, face makeup and then turned to my go-to eyeshadow palette of the moment, the UD Gwen Stefani palette, I created a coal smokey eye.

Using shade Blonde as a base, I applied this all over my eyes to start. I then applied a generous amount of shade Serious which is a lovely, rich dark grey colour to my eyelids and my inner eye socket. This was followed by mixing and blending shades Anaheim and Zone with the dark grey to soften the charcoal look slightly, whilst also keeping a dramatic effect. It’s all about blend, blend, blend here.

On the lower part of my eye under my waterline, I also applied shade Serious to enhance the look, then added black kohl eyeliner pencil to my waterline. I finished off the look by drawing a thick line of eyeliner on my upper eyelids and applying a generous amount of my Benefit ‘They’re Real’ mascara.

A dust of my MAC Soft and Gentle mineralise highlight power and some Benefit Coralista blush on my cheeks and I was ready to go! I kept my lips very nude with just a light application of my MAC Revved Up lip pencil.

Once I was ready, we set on our way, dressed and curlers in my hair (because obviously I never take them out until the last possible second!). Unfortunately I somehow didn’t manage to get a full outfit look without my curlers in, but you get the general idea.

Hope you all have a great weekend. I’m going to partying away at my lovely friend Lucy’s hen party – as I’m sure you can tell, it’s all hens and weddings at the moment!

Oscars 2016 – My Favourite Looks

It was one of the biggest night’s in fashion as well as film last night, and any fashion lover won’t have been able to resist all the style and glamour that was the Academy Awards red carpet. It’s possibly my favourite fashion night of the year (even above the Met Gala) and I managed to keep myself awake until 01.30am Irish time to catch a glimpse of all this year’s celeb looks.

The Oscars are the crème de la crème of events when it comes to beautiful gowns, and although last night’s dresses weren’t the most stand out looks of all time, I’ve picked out my top three to share with you all.

Not dissimilar to earlier award season events this year, rich sequins, golds and whites were donned by many female stars, with sultry eyes and nude lips dominating the red carpet also.

Here’s a look at my Top Three looks from the night:

Cate Blanchett

Cate’s beautiful Armani Privé Seafoam coloured gown was the last dress I saw before falling to sleep last night and my first thoughts were yes. Just yes! The seafoam colour which is like a soft aqua shade, is just gorgeous on Cate and her hair and makeup is understated and classy.

Image: EOnline (Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP )

A soft grey mixed with what appears to be a hint of purple eyeshadow compliments the subtle pop of lavender that runs through Cate’s gown and her soft lip finishes the look of perfectly. This is just beautiful and elegant all round in my opinion.

Margot Robbie

Margot has been on fire this awards season and last night was no different in this ultra sexy gold Tom Ford number. This girl just screams Oscar Glam with this look and the shape of this dress is super flattering on her enviable figure.

Her soft waves, again paired with light makeup, is the perfect accompaniment to this gorgeous gown.

Saoirse Ronan

To me this is Saoirse’s best look of the year so far, without a doubt. And it was also my favourite look of the night (not just because she is Irish!). This rich green colour is just to die for on her skin tone and I’m in love with this charcoal smokey eye and soft hair combination.

Image: EOnline (Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP )

I was a little thrown by the mismatched earrings at first, but hey, if you can pull it off as well as Saoirse can then why not?!

So what do you think? Who was your best dressed on the night? I do have to say that Olivia Munn and Jennifer Garner both looked pretty fab too.

I finally got my hands on the new Urban Decay Gwen Stefani eyeshadow palette over the weekend so I’ll be recreating some of these makeup looks over the next few days. Make sure you keep an eye on the blog so you don’t miss out.

Unfortunately it’s now time for me to come back down to earth and get ready for a very normal Monday in work!

Hope you all have a great one.

Fridaygram

It’s Friday and that’s the best day of the week in my view. I’m very excited about the weekend ahead. My sister, who just got engaged (squeal) is coming home for the weekend and we are going to celebrate, big time! But before I close out the week, I’ve decided to share my week in review from Instagram.

I’m thinking of doing this every Friday from now on so please let me know your thoughts and whether you enjoy seeing my pictures. I am by no means the best photographer in the world, but I love pretty pictures, and am completely obsessed with Instagram. Oh, and if you want to come follow me there (please do), you can do so by clicking here.

Anyway here’s a look back over my Instagram week…

Saturday

If you read my review on the new restaurant Angelina’s yesterday, you’ll know that this is where I spent a lot of my evening and night last Saturday. Chatting with the girls, eating delicious food and sipping on prosecco. What more could a girl ask for?!

Sunday

Given said evening and night of alcohol on Saturday, Sunday was spent mostly in bed, in my pyjamas, blogging, reading and Pinterest pinning. This was a good day.

Monday

A little Monday Motivation goes a long way, and I came across this cute picture on Pinterest so had to share it. Coffee is definitely what we all need to get us through Monday!

It was also a freezing cold day on Monday, but dreaming of warmer days I donned my ballerina pumps with my skinny jeans.

Tuesday

I love playing around with makeup as you may already know, so on Tuesday I shared one of my favourite makeup looks, a golden smokey eye paired with one of my go-to lipstick shades, Dark Side from MAC. This is look I went for on my girls night out last Saturday.

Wednesday

My gorgeous gold Gorjana necklace, need I say more?!

I’m a big book lover, book worm, bibliophile – there are many ways to describe my love of books. When I came across this photo on Twitter I just had to share it. It encapsulates so many of my favourite things, summer, flowy dresses, and reading.

Thursday

I recently shared a sneak peak of my wedding photos with you all, and yesterday I shared a Throw Back Thursday snap to one of my favourite wedding pictures. Now, I know I’ve promised you all a full wedding photography post and it’s coming, I swear! I’m just waiting on the USB to arrive from my photographer so I can share some of the images with you all.

But for now this will have to suffice. Oh how I wish I could do it all over again…

When I came home yesterday evening, I took out my happiness planner and entered my comments for the day. I love this happiness planner I got recently, if you’d like to know more about it you can read my full happiness planner post here.

My hubby and I are currently looking at redecorating some rooms so, as I so often do, I was looking up some inspiration on Houzz and Pinterest. How gorgeous is this living room? Exactly my style, soft tones, grey couch and a picture wall. I just had to share it.

Friday

My love for neck pieces is unwavering! Today I’ve opted for this spiked monochrome chunky neckpiece from Topshop. Perfect match to my knit black jumper.

So there you go! I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, please let me know your thoughts.

Oh and, Happy Friday! 🙂

Alexa Lovin’

Handbags. Do I even need to go on? I don’t think there are many women out there who don’t love a pretty handbag and I’m no exception.

Depending on my mood I flit between oversize and mini, satchel and clutch, cross-body and over the shoulder, you name it – I’ve probably got a bag that fits your description!

I do, like all things, have my favourites however, and today that’s my Mulberry Alexa. It’s been a while since I’ve given my Alexa some love, but a friend of mine was recently talking about purchasing one for herself which made me realise, I hadn’t taken mine out to play in quite a while.

I bought this bag about five years ago now, and it is like my baby. I lusted after it for so long and when it finally became mine, my handbag life was complete (well for a while anyway!).

This is probably the most versatile bag I’ve ever had, as I’m sure all of you Alexa lovers out there would agree. The tan colour means it goes with pretty much everything I own, and the leather has worn incredibly well over the years, remaining as soft as it was when I first purchased it. It’s love what can I say…

And on that note, Alexa and I are off out, so Happy Friday. Hope it’s a great weekend all!

Shoes, Glorious Wedding Shoes

As I mentioned last week, my wedding photos finally arrived and I’m still bursting with excitement. I promised you all a full blog post on my wedding photography which is coming very soon, I promise. But for now, I’m going to dedicate this post to my wedding shoes. My wonderfully pretty wedding shoes!

Image: Moat Hill Photography

If you’re like me and obsessed with all things footwear, then you’ll appreciate this blog post. When flicking through our hundreds of wedding images I was totally blown away by the photos our incredible photographers, Moat Hill Photography, captured of my shoes at different points throughout the day. I thought, wow, these pictures are too good not to share!

So here you go…

Image: Moat Hill Photography

Don’t they just look delicious?!

Unlike a lot of brides, I didn’t go for your ‘typical’ bridal heels, and opted for a pair of Nude YSL Tribute Sandals that I’ve had my eyes on forever. They aren’t particularly dainty or sparkly, or what you would normally expect a bride to wear, but I didn’t care. My wedding was a perfect excuse to splurge and that I did!

Image: Moat Hill Photography
Image: Moat Hill Photography

My hubby just can’t understand how I can spend so much money on shoes or handbags, but the men just don’t get it ladies, do they?! Shoes always fit, they always make you feel good – and I felt amazing in mine. And the fact that they were super comfortable too was a big bonus!

Never underestimate the power of a great shoe! I shared a post over the weekend about the power of retail therapy, but I think this needs to be followed by a nod to the power a great shoe to make you feel like a million dollars. I lasted all day and pretty much all night in mine apart from the last hour where I swapped them out for a pair of slippers – so it was money very well spent in my view!

So my advice to any budding brides out there is to buy whatever shoes you want – you don’t have to conform to the ‘norm’ here. This is the perfect time in your life to splash out and purchase those beauties you’ve always had your eye on – whatever they are.

And on that note, I will leave you to dream…

Happy Monday!
