Recently I’ve started to notice the dark circles under my eyes getting more prominent in the mornings, and as a result I’ve been doing some research into different concealers on the market.
I usually flit between MAC’s Studio Finish concealer and Benefit’s Erase Paste, but they just don’t seem to be doing the trick lately (or maybe it’s just a sign that I’m getting older, nooooooo!). As I was researching, I came across quite a few positive reviews on Charlotte Tilbury’s Retoucher concealer pen, and given that Charlotte Tilbury appears to be the makeup of the moment, I decided to give it a go.
At first glance, it’s very similar to YSL’s Touché Eclat and you’d be forgiven for thinking they are the same thing. It has the same look and consistency, but unlike Touche Eclat according to the Charlotte Tilbury counter girl, it’s not a highlighter. I have used Touché Eclat as both a highlighter and a concealer however, and I’m sure the Retoucher pen could be used as both also.
I’m used to wearing heavier concealers so I was dubious about whether this would do the job at first. I went with Shade 2, on the advice of said counter girl, and the colour match to my skin is really good. The texture is very light and smooth, meaning it blends well into your skin and it’s very easy to use – just a few dots under your eyes and you’re ready to go. I’ve been using it for about two weeks now and really like it, it definitely makes the usual morning makeup ritual a lot quicker too!
I think this works best if you’re going with a natural makeup look, in other words it’s great for daytime. But I tend to like a richer look in the evenings when I’m going out so I’m not sure this has completely given me what I’m looking for. I’ll definitely use it going forward, but as far as an all rounder concealer goes, I think the search continues.
At €33 it’s not cheapest, but is priced competitively in relation to its market counterparts.
Have you used this concealer? If not, what do you use? I definitely need some tips on what to try next so let me know!
