Simply Lippy Challenge Day 349 | Urban Decay Vice Cream Lipstick in Shade, Ravenswood

For all us lipstick fanatics, I don’t think there’s any better feeling than when you rediscover just how much you love a lipstick. For me today, that’s Urban Decay’s vice cream lipstick. For years I have loved the formula of this and no matter how much I wear it, it never gets old.

Obviously with my challenge this year, there has been less time for wearing my favourite lippies, in fact, I’ve missed some of them a lot – especially for events or nights out when I’ve really wanted to wear them. But today, I tried out a new shade in one of my favourite formula’s and let me tell you, a new love affair has begun.

This year I discovered a love for rose shade lipsticks that I never had before, and this particular one, might just be my favourite after Make Up For Ever’s Rose Wood shade which I wore back at the beginning of the year.

Apart from the gorgeous rose shade, these lipsticks have incredible pigment. They are full coverage with amazing colour pay off, and the tone is lovely and rich too. The minute you apply this, you get a gorgeous pop of colour that you can’t help but love.

The formula is thick and creamy, but very easy to apply and blend, and it feels very luxurious on your lips as you wear it. It is hydrating and moisturising, and left my lips feeling smooth all day.

The other great thing about this formula is the staying power. As much as I adore cream finishes, the staying power isn’t always as good as I’d like, however with this, you don’t need to worry about having to reapply much at all. Today I caught up with my gorgeous cousin for lunch and it stayed put all afternoon through eating and lots of chatting!

So, if you haven’t guessed already, I love it! I really didn’t expect to be still discovering new lipsticks that I love so late into my challenge but it just goes to show how many great lipsticks there are out there! This one is without a doubt a new favourite and I’ve only got fifteen or so days to go until I can wear it again. Hooray!

If you’re looking for a last minute treat for Christmas then this one is a must buy for me!

My Christmas Beauty Gift Guide

Well, it’s that time of year again, my favourite time! I have to admit, I do love Christmas, and I’m one of those annoying people who starts getting excited about it in October. Anyway, as a result, I have been thinking about the perfect gift guide for a couple of weeks now, and have decided to put together a quick post on some of my favourite items and recommendations for you this Christmas.

I’m sure you’ve been inundated with gift guides on social media, and I understand sometimes too much bombarding of information can be a bad thing. But just in case you’re looking for a few last minute ideas, and given that it’s Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend, I thought this might come in handy…

Beauty

It contains six gorgeous shades from light to bold, and will transform any makeup look.

Debenhams currently have 15% off Naked 1, 2 and 3 palettes, and my top choice is definitely Naked 2. It’s a great all rounder palette for different skin tones with a mixture of matte and shimmer shades.

Of all the Naked palettes, Naked Ultimate Basics has been my go-to since its release last year and includes some gorgeous shades from nude to bold. This is a full matte palette and is a great alternative to Naked 2 for those who don’t like or use shimmer shadows.

Kiehl’s Tumeric & Cranberry Seed Radiance Mask

€35 but on special offer for €28 this weekend in Arnotts

Some of you may have caught my review on this Kiehl’s mask last year – I fell in love with it the first time I’ve tried it and it has remained one of my favourite face masks since. If your face is feeling a bit tired, dull and dry with the cold winter weather, then this is brilliant for brightening skin and giving it a boost of hydration.

YSL All Hours Foundation

€42 but on offer of 10% off this weekend in Debenhams

This purchase may be more a treat for yourself than a gift for someone else, but if you like a medium to full coverage foundation then I definitely recommend. I have a review post coming shortly, but in a nutshell, I am in love with it! You’ll need to get colour matched before purchasing, but if you do decide to buy, then you’ll get it for 10% cheaper in Debenhams this weekend than you normally would. It’s pricey at €42 so as the saying goes, every little helps!

This Works Deep Sleep Lavender & Chamomile Candle

€33 from Meagher’s Pharmacy and selected pharmacies nationwide

I’m a huge fan of This Works’ products; apart from smelling incredible, they are packed full of great ingredients and more importantly, they work too! Their Deep Sleep range has been a go-to for me for quite some time; I use their Deep Sleep pillow spray almost every night and love it, and have recently discovered their Deep Sleep Heavenly candle which is divine too.

Candles are always a great gift in my opinion, I love receiving them as well as giving them, and this one not only looks lovely, but will help keep you calm and relaxed all winter long, as well as helping you catch up on some well needed zzzz’s. What better gift than the gift of sleep this Christmas!

Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Bath Oil

€54 from Brown Thomas

This beauty is a bit pricey, but if you can’t indulge a little at Christmas time then when can you?! Jo Malone bath oils are so luxurious; they leave your skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth, not to mention how amazing they smell too. They come in a variety of different scents, but Lime Basil & Mandarin is my personal favourite.

Review: Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara

A few weeks back, I was invited along to a makeup masterclass with Urban Decay, where they unveiled their latest wonder mascara; Troublemaker. As much as I totally love Urban Decay as a brand, I had actually never tried any of their mascaras so I was very excited when they gave us one as a gift to take home and try out for ourselves.

I’ve been using the mascara every day for the past three weeks and I honestly couldn’t wait any longer to share it with you all. I am loving it, and there are just so many reasons why…

First off, the packaging is a-ma-zing! The coloured prismatic tube is so much fun and very hard to resist the second you lay your eyes on it. But, what is really striking about this mascara is the brush, and that’s what makes all the difference for me.

The brush head is silicone with very fine needles, but each needle is a different length going from short to long on one side, and long to short on the other. Because of that, every single lash gets covered with formula to give incredible length. The brush needles separate the lashes to give a very fine coverage, and exactly the kind of coverage that I love in a mascara.

Everyone likes different things when it comes to mascara, for me, I always like something that gives me length and a bit of thickness because I have very short lashes, and am not a big fan of wearing false eyelashes. I didn’t find the volume as great as some of my all-time favourites, but it was still very good and felt very lightweight too.

Before
One lash application
Two lash application

My pet peeve when it comes to any mascara is clumping and at the masterclass we were promised that one thing this mascara won’t do is clump, or leave little lumps of formula at the end of the eyelashes (I bloody hate when that happens). And hallelujah, they were right because I’ve had zero clumping with it and no smudging under the eye area either.

Before & After

The formula also contains a double black pigment giving a very dark intense colour to the lashes, and is infused with Vitamin E to keep your lashes nourished and in good condition too.

Before & After

Of the reviews I’ve read, some people are loving it and some are hating it, and it’s mainly coming down to how people feel about the brush head. So if you’re usually a fan of very bristly, thick brushes then this will definitely be a change from the norm and may not be to your preference. However, for me, it’s totally worth the spend at €23.50.

Troublemaker is on counters in Debenhams stores and online now!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 259 | Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick in Shade Tryst

I first tried one of these liquid lipsticks from Urban Decay when they were released back in March, in a lovely muted pink shade called Balktalk. I hadn’t intended on waiting so long to try my next shade from them as I really liked it, but there have been a lot to get through as you know!

So when I was picking up a few new shades for my holidays and saw this neon coral shade, I couldn’t resist buying it. I love bright lipsticks as I’m sure you all know by now, and this is the perfect holiday shade.

The formula is very creamy for a liquid lipstick, and therefore glides on easily to the lips with little or no effort. The pigment like all Urban Decay lippies, is stunning and has gives amazing colour pay off too.

I did notice that in the Tenerife heat, it did take a little longer to dry in than I remembered, but what’s a few extra minutes on holiday?! Once dry, it stayed in place pretty damn well, even with the 26 degree balmy evening.

It did flake a little when eating dinner so that was slightly disappointing. But as that didn’t happen to me the last time I wore it, I’m putting that down to the heat and not the formula itself.

Overall I absolutely adore this shade and it was the perfect shade to start my holiday off on a bright, sunny note. I do prefer their lipsticks over their liquid lipsticks, but this was a nice change today.

Have any of you tried these yet? By all accounts they are getting good reviews in the beauty world and if you’re a liquid fan, they come in some stunning shades too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 201 | Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Shade, Tilt

Tilt; oh my god, where have you been all my life?!

On Friday I headed off to Madrid early in the morning for a weekend away and had a gorgeous red floral dress that I wanted to wear that day. Because of that, I knew I needed the perfect coral / red lip to accompany it and so, in the airport decided to treat myself to my day 201 lip there and then.

I love Urban Decay lipsticks, and I particularly love their comfort matte finishes, so the moment I saw this I knew I would love it and it had to be mine. And I wasn’t wrong!

This lippy is just divine in every sense of the word. It is creamy, highly pigmented, incredibly blendable and has the most gorgeous soft matte finish.

The colour pay off, as you’d expect from Urban Decay, is brilliant and the staying power is pretty damn good too.

As I’m sure you’ve gathered by now, there is nothing I don’t like about it other than the fact that I’ve only discovered it now!

Many of you will know that I very rarely say you should go out and purchase anything; lipsticks are a very personal choice. But, if you are looking for a bright Summer lip and love coral, then this one is definitely worth checking out.

It really is the perfect summer lippy and one that I’m pretty sure I’ll be wearing for many years to come.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 147 | Urban Decay Jean-Michele Basquiat Comfort Matte Lipstick in Shade, Exhibition

Urban Decay’s most recent limited edition collaboration collection with Jean-Michele Basquiat, is one of the most exciting collections to be released in a long time. In fact, I think it’s my favourite collab collection since NARS’ Andy Warhol one from a few years back.

Funny that both my favourite makeup collabs are for two of the world’s most famous artists; I have been a huge fan of Andy Warhol for as long as I can remember –  I’m obsessed with how he took everyday ordinary things and made them seem special and different.

Jean-Michele came from a similar place with his graffiti style art, and both him and Warhol worked together on many projects, as well as having a close friendship.

So, as you can imagine, when this collab was announced a few weeks back, I was so frickin’ excited to get my hands on it because I just knew the shades and pigments would be insane! And that, they are.

While I’ll be reviewing the blush palette in a separate review, for today’s lipstick choice, I opted for this amazing pink / purple from the collab called Exhibition and it is simply divine.

Comfort Matte finishes are my favourite of all the Urban Decay lipstick finishes so from the beginning I knew I would love this. The formula is incredibly creamy, and the pigment is to die for. With just one layer, you get a very dramatic colour pop and I love how this shade is something different to my usual choices.

Because of the semi-matte finish, the lasting power on this lipstick is brilliant. I put it on early in the morning, had breakfast and spent the day in the spa, and even after the jacuzzi and steam room, it was still pretty much in tact!

I knew I would love this, and I wasn’t wrong; it’s such a gorgeous shade especially if you’re looking for something a bit different and the colour pay off is everything you want it to be and more.

Do you like collaboration products? Sometimes they can be a bit gimmicky, but I can assure you, this one is definitely worth it!

Review: Urban Decay Afterglow 8 Hour Powder Blush in Score

For some reason even though I love Urban Decay as a brand, up until a few weeks ago I had never tried any of their blushers. And I really don’t know why.

A month or so ago when doing some beauty shopping, I wanted a new blush shade and decided to go look at the Urban Decay options as I’ve always heard great things about them. After looking through a few shades, I eventually settled on this one called Score, and it is just divine.

This is a powder blush, and the first thing I noticed was how finely milled the powder is. It is just so light, and a little goes a very long way because the pigment is so on point.

Of course, me being me, I opted for a coral shade which has a very slight shimmery glow to the finish as the name Afterglow suggests, and the light, creamy texture makes application just so frickin’ easy!

Sometimes with heavier blushes the powder can pull or drag your base foundation underneath, but that doesn’t happen at all with this blusher. It glides on so easily to the face, leaving a gorgeous soft glow to your cheekbones that stays put pretty damn well throughout the day.

One thing I’m really liking about it is the fact that because the powder is so fine, it makes this a really buildable formula so you can go very soft and light for daytime, or you can layer it giving a bolder cheek definition for night time. So it’s a win-win all round.

Blush on left cheek, no blush on right cheek

It’s no secret that I love Urban Decay as I mentioned above, but I’m pretty sure this blush has just become a new favourite.
Before blush on right cheek
After blush on right cheek

Now the one thing I will say is, it’s very similar to Benefit’s Coralista which some of you may remember, I reviewed last year (if you missed it you can catch it here).

Coralista is one of my all time favourite blush shades and one I’ve been wearing for years, but I think it may just have met its match with this.

While Coralista is a peachy-coral shade, Score is more of a pink-coral giving it a richer pigment and dare I say it – might make me love it just a little bit more than Coralista. Plus at €28, it’s cheaper than Coralista too.

I know, shock, horror! That is a big statement for me to make because nothing could touch Coralista for me for so many years, it’s just so perfect. But, there’s a new coral in town folks, and I’m loving it!
