Simply Lippy Challenge Day 361 | YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain Lipstick in Shade 22, Neon Coral

You all know by now how much I love both a YSL lip and a coral lip, so it’s fair to say that today’s lipstick is a match made in heaven. I’ve wanted to try out the YSL Tatouage Couture range since it was released back in September, and now that I’ve finally had the chance, I’m not disappointed.

YSL make the most incredible lipsticks; some of my all time favourites are from YSL and I adore every single one of them so needless to say, I wasn’t surprised to find that I loved this today too.

Unlike their other lipsticks that I’ve tried, this lippy is a matte stain in the very truest sense of the word. It applies very similarly to their vinyl liquid lip cream, and has the same creamy texture, only once dried in, gives the full effect of a matte lip.

As mentioned, the formula is very creamy with the same delicious scent that all YSL lippies have. The pigment is strong and flawless, and the colour pay off is excellent too.

The matte finish does make it a little less hydrating than other YSL lipsticks but that’s to be expected from a lip stain. I did find myself preferring the moisturising element that you get from the vinyl lip creams or regular lipsticks, but I still loved the colour and finish nonetheless.

The colour itself is a salmon coral rather than an orange coral, but I loved it as I’m sure you’ve already guessed! And, what’s more, it’s a perfect day-to-night shade for any time of year.

We were out tonight for a friend’s 40th birthday celebration and I loved how this worked equally as well on out and about during the day, as well as for a night out on the tiles tonight. What’s more, the stain element means the staying power is excellent so I didn’t need to worry about reapplying it during the evening.

Of course as with any brand, there are some lipsticks I prefer more than others, but this one is definitely going up there with my current YSL favourites. It’s smooth, creamy and gorgeously luxurious – I literally didn’t want to take it off!

Have you ever tried a YSL lipstick?

Review: YSL All Hours Liquid Foundation

Today’s blog post is a goody, mainly because I have found true love in a foundation and it’s time to share that love with you all! I don’t think I have loved a foundation as much since Armani Luminous Silk was released, and I honestly don’t know that I’ll ever love a foundation as much again!

Say hello to YSL All Hours foundation…

Back in September, I was invited to the launch of this newest release from YSL where I was very kindly gifted a bottle to take home and try. Since then, I have worn it almost every day, growing to love it more as the days go on.

I have to admit, I didn’t expect to love this as much as I do, mainly because it’s a medium to full coverage foundation and over the past few years I’ve tended to prefer light to medium bases. However, the formula of this is just so incredibly light, you really don’t feel like you’re wearing a full coverage base at all.

The formula contains very fine pigments which combine to give an oil free, light texture that isn’t thick or thin, and blends incredibly on the skin. I find I only need one pump because of it being so blendable, and that alone is enough to cover the entire face.

According to YSL the formula is ‘enriched with a skincare complex and UV filter to leave skin feeling fresh and smooth‘; it is also waterproof, transfer resistant and contains SPF 20.

The finish is matte, and I have dry skin, which again was another surprising element for me. I usually avoid matte foundations like the plague! My dry skin doesn’t tend to get on with them, and I much prefer bases that brighten the skin and give me a glow. But somehow, this manages to smooth out blemishes, cover pores and make my skin look radiant all at the same time.

It gives my face a completely flawless finish no matter how I wear it and I find myself being surprised by it over and over again. I’ve worn it with and without primer, and with and without finishing powder, and have been so impressed by how well its worn regardless of primer or powder.

Foundations don’t tend to brake down too easily on my skin anyway because of it being on the dryer side, but I definitely think this is one of the only, if not the only, matte full coverage foundation that hasn’t made my skin look dull or cakey.

Now, my skin has most definitely changed in the last few months with being pregnant, but all my other foundations work the same as they always have, so I’ve no reason to think that this will be any different even when I’m not pregnant. However, I will be sure to keep you all posted if it is.

As always, I apply it with a stippling brush which is my go-to for applying my foundation as I find it gives you a lighter application. If applying with a beauty sponge or blender, you might find that it applies a bit thicker so that’s one thing to bare in mind.

I wear shade BD25 but it comes in 22 shades overall so there’s a good range to choose from, but when it comes to price, however, it is very spendy. A bottle is going to knock you back a hefty €42 so make sure you get a sample in store. A purchase this costly shouldn’t be made lightly so make sure you try before you buy!

In terms of longevity, I have my bottle over two months now. I’ve have used it almost every day and there’s still a lot of product left so this one will last you a good few months if you do choose to invest.

If any of you do buy or have tried it before, let me know because I’d love to hear your thoughts. It’s definitely a new favourite for me, I just love it and nothing else is remotely getting a look in for the foreseeable future anyway!

My Christmas Beauty Gift Guide

Well, it’s that time of year again, my favourite time! I have to admit, I do love Christmas, and I’m one of those annoying people who starts getting excited about it in October. Anyway, as a result, I have been thinking about the perfect gift guide for a couple of weeks now, and have decided to put together a quick post on some of my favourite items and recommendations for you this Christmas.

I’m sure you’ve been inundated with gift guides on social media, and I understand sometimes too much bombarding of information can be a bad thing. But just in case you’re looking for a few last minute ideas, and given that it’s Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend, I thought this might come in handy…

theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Lipstick Set

€29 but on offer for €26.10 this weekend in Debenhams

Let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be a gift guide from me without a few lipstick suggestions after my year of Simply Lippy! These liquid lipsticks from theBalm were my favourite liquid lippies of the year and this mini set is brilliant value. It contains six gorgeous shades from light to bold, and will transform any makeup look.

Benefit 3 for 2

Available from Debenhams, Brown Thomas & Boots all weekend

Benefit are running 3for2 offers in several department stores and online beauty sites over the course of the weekend. Obviously, they have a lot of great products to choose from but I’ve put together my top three favourites to help you decide:

  • That Gal Primer, a gorgeous brightening primer which gives the face a glow
  • Galifornia Blush which has a lovely coral tone for lifting the cheek bones
  • They’re Real Mascara, is one of my favourite mascaras for giving life and volume to the lashes

Needless to say, you can’t go too far wrong with any Benefit products, but these are the ones I’ll be treating myself to over the weekend!

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Palettes

Naked 1, 2 & 3 Palettes – €47.50 but on offer for €40.37 in Debenhams

When it comes to eyeshadow, you can never go wrong with a good palette and Urban Decay palettes are my favourite. Debenhams currently have 15% off Naked 1, 2 and 3 palettes, and my top choice is definitely Naked 2. It’s a great all rounder palette for different skin tones with a mixture of matte and shimmer shades.

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette

€47.50 but on offer for €42.75 in Debenhams

Of all the Naked palettes, Naked Ultimate Basics has been my go-to since its release last year and includes some gorgeous shades from nude to bold. This is a full matte palette and is a great alternative to Naked 2 for those who don’t like or use shimmer shadows.

Kiehl’s Tumeric & Cranberry Seed Radiance Mask

€35 but on special offer for €28 this weekend in Arnotts

Some of you may have caught my review on this Kiehl’s mask last year – I fell in love with it the first time I’ve tried it and it has remained one of my favourite face masks since. If your face is feeling a bit tired, dull and dry with the cold winter weather, then this is brilliant for brightening skin and giving it a boost of hydration.

YSL All Hours Foundation

€42 but on offer of 10% off this weekend in Debenhams

This purchase may be more a treat for yourself than a gift for someone else, but if you like a medium to full coverage foundation then I definitely recommend. I have a review post coming shortly, but in a nutshell, I am in love with it! You’ll need to get colour matched before purchasing, but if you do decide to buy, then you’ll get it for 10% cheaper in Debenhams this weekend than you normally would. It’s pricey at €42 so as the saying goes, every little helps!

This Works Deep Sleep Lavender & Chamomile Candle

€33 from Meagher’s Pharmacy and selected pharmacies nationwide

I’m a huge fan of This Works’ products; apart from smelling incredible, they are packed full of great ingredients and more importantly, they work too! Their Deep Sleep range has been a go-to for me for quite some time; I use their Deep Sleep pillow spray almost every night and love it, and have recently discovered their Deep Sleep Heavenly candle which is divine too.

Candles are always a great gift in my opinion, I love receiving them as well as giving them, and this one not only looks lovely, but will help keep you calm and relaxed all winter long, as well as helping you catch up on some well needed zzzz’s. What better gift than the gift of sleep this Christmas!

Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Bath Oil

€54 from Brown Thomas

This beauty is a bit pricey, but if you can’t indulge a little at Christmas time then when can you?! Jo Malone bath oils are so luxurious; they leave your skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth, not to mention how amazing they smell too. They come in a variety of different scents, but Lime Basil & Mandarin is my personal favourite.

StylPro Rose Gold Makeup Brush Cleaner

€69 but on offer for €51.75 from Meagher’s Pharmacy

This limited edition rose gold version of the original StylPro makeup brush cleaner is so pretty and perfect for anyone who has a multitude of makeup brushes like I do but doesn’t always have the time to spend hours cleaning them. The StylPro takes the hassle out of washing and drying your brushes, and is so easy to use too.

This, along with the eye shadow and blush palette, will have you makeup ready for the entire festive season.

Clarins Holiday Anti Aging New Double Serum

Let me tell you, this is one of the best Christmas gift sets I’ve seen on the market so far. It’s amazing! Simply Lippy Challenge Day 262 | Rouge Pur Couture Satin Radiance Lipstick in Shade 71, Black Red

There is just something about a YSL lipstick that truly makes you feel spoiled when you are wearing it. From the luxurious formula to the smooth finish, there is very little I don’t like about the Rouge Pur Couture range.

You may know already that my favourite ever lipstick in life is YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture in Shade 13, Le Orange which I wore very early on in my challenge. I’ve been in love with it for years and think I always will be really.

Today however, I’m trying out a different shade, Black Red, which I would describe as a deep red cherry shade, and not one I would usually opt for. It has a cool tone, and I do prefer warmer tones, but there’s something about the sultry look of this one that I really like.

The formula, like all lippies in this range, is creamy and highly pigmented, giving incredible colour pay off as soon as it’s applied. The creaminess makes it very blendable, and a little goes a long way because of that too.

Staying power with this is pretty good for a satin finish; the finish itself does have a slight gloss to it which gives the lips a lovely sheen but because of that, it doesn’t have the same lasting power as that of  a matte or cream.

While I love the richness of this, it’s definitely a break away from my normal tones which I wasn’t sure about at first. But, after wearing it for a while, I started to really warm to it and think it would be a lovely shade for winter.

I am definitely more drawn to berry and plum shades in general, but like so many things with makeup, it all comes down to personal preference. What’s your favourite lipstick shade?!

Happy 100 Simply Lippy Days… To Me!

Well, if you caught my Day 100 lippy post which I posted a little while ago, you will know that the big day has arrived. Yes, today I reached the 100 day mark of my 365 day Simply Lippy challenge and I’m so excited!

I’m not going to lie, there were days over the past three months or so, where I really hit a wall with the challenge and didn’t think I could keep going. It’s tough doing a daily challenge – I wake up in the morning, take product shots and makeup photos, go to work for ten or so hours, then come home, write my blog post, edit my photos, then share my posts online and on social media. It really is a full time job, on top of a full time job!

In saying all that, I honestly have really loved it, and though I had a brief moment of wanting to quit, I’ve decided to keep going and see if I can make the 365 day mark. I’m running very low on lipsticks, and I’ve a long way to go still, but where there’s a will, there’s a way as the old saying goes…

Over the past few days, I’ve been looking back at all my posts to-date, and I can’t believe how many shades, brands, and formula’s I’ve tried. From high end to budget, from matte to gloss, from liquid to cream; I’ve tried them all! But a lipstick lover’s job is never really done, and there are a lot more for me to try still.

Of course I’ve had some favourites, and some least favourites, but instead of sharing them here, I’m going to do a round up video of my first 100 days seen as I haven’t got around to doing that before now.

In the meantime, here’s a look back at all the shades I’ve worn over the past 100 days…

I have worn so many incredible lipsticks from some amazing brands including MAC, Armani, Catrice, Rimmel, YSL, Urban Decay, Penneys, Essence, Charlotte Tilbury, Clinique, NYX, Barry M, Sleek, Wet n Wild… The list goes on and on.

One thing’s for sure, there will be a lot more from these brands to come, and many more brands as well so I hope you stick with me, and keep following me on my Simply Lippy journey to wear 365 shades in 365 days!

Don’t forget, I’m sharing all my lippy challenge photos and progress over on my social media pages too so come follow me on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. And every so often, I’ll have a natter on snapchat at @imsimplysorcha, so why not come say hello there too!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 69 | YSL Vernis Ă€ Lèvres Vinyl Cream Liquid Lipstick in Shade 403

Ahh once again it’s Friday, and that means the weekend has begun and we can all breath a sigh of relief.

Because Friday’s are my favourite days, I decided to pair this Friday with one of my absolute favourite lipsticks in both formula and shade, YSL’s Vinyl Liquid Lipstick in shade 403.

Now, if you’ve been a follower of Simply Sorcha for a while, you may have read my review post on today’s lipstick back in November, and may also know that I absolutely adore it, so much so, it was my overall favourite beauty release of 2016.

I wore shade 402, a stunning warm toned red, on the very first day of Simply Lippy to kick off my challenge, and today I wore a second shade in the range, shade 403, which is the most beautiful salmon coral colour as you can see from the photos.

The formula on this lippy is so creamy and luxurious, and it gives a gorgeous soft, smooth gloss finish on application. It definitely has a vinyl feel to it, and makes the lips feel, well, just lovely!

Even though it has a vinyl gloss finish, the staying power is better than any gloss I’ve ever tried, and application is so easy too with the angled brush head.

I don’t often recommend that you should go out and buy something unless I really, really love it, but honestly, if you’re in the market for a new lippy then this one is definitely one worth considering.

When these were first released, both shades I received were gifted to me by YSL but already I’ve repurchased, and I certainly plan on repurchasing over and over again in the future because I just LOVE them, particularly this one.

YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick | New Release Alert!

I don’t often write about new product releases until I’ve actually tried and tested them to see if they are any good, but I received a press release the other day about YSL’s new The Street And I collection for Spring 2017, and one of the products looks so incredible, I just had to share the details with you all.

The YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Duo Stick, which is available from this month, has not only one shade, but two, combined into one application stick for use on both the lips and eyes. Now, while there is nothing new about a dual purpose stick product, the fact that this has two shades in one, is what makes me so excited about it.

You can use each shade singly, or you can blur both together and create several different colour looks. Not only that, but the stick comes in six different shades (which is actually twelve if you use separately) and claims to have a smooth, matte finish that glides over lips and cheeks for easy application. EHHH… That is the frickin’ dream right there!

Needless to say, I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these and try it out, and I’m REALLY hoping it’s as good as I want it to be. My only question is, do you think it counts as one lip product or two for my Simply Lippy challenge? I know, I know, it’s probably just the one but God loves a trier as they say!

Of course this product won’t be for everyone, but I’m pretty sure my fellow lipstick lovers will be equally as excited as me. At €33, it’s not cheap, but it is slightly less expensive than other YSL lipsticks which is always a bonus.

What do you guys think? Is this something you would use or do you find it a bit gimmicky? Let me know by commenting below!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 18 | YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Matts in Shade 205, Prune Virgin

It’s Wednesday, it’s hump day, but most importantly, it’s day 18 of my Simply Lippy challenge. Today has been a super fun day but before I go into all that, yesterday I completely forgot to tell you all about the lovely article that Irish online magazine wrote on Monday about my Simply Lippy challenge.

If you follow my social media pages you’ll have seen me talking about this already, but I was so excited when I found out about the post on Monday evening. I had no idea it was being written and, it gave me such a boost about the challenge (and the 347 days still left to go!). Obviously, a 365 day challenge is a big task to undertake, and I still have no idea if I’ll be able to pull it off, but knowing that people are enjoying it as much as I am makes me so happy.

I think this challenge means so much to me because makeup, and lipstick in particular, has always been a way for me to boost my confidence and make myself feel better when having a crappy day. For example, I’ve struggled with my weight for basically forever, and experimenting with lipsticks and makeup looks when my clothes didn’t fit, helped me feel better about myself. It may sound silly, but it’s also how my shoe obsession began too. Clothes may not always fit, but shoes always do!

Anyway, I’m rambling now, but really I just want to say thank you for all of the lovely words of encouragement I’ve gotten from so many of you so far. I really am so grateful and I hope you all continue to stick with me throughout the challenge.

If you missed the article you can catch up here, but for now, let me get back to today…

Today, Dave and I decided to do something special before my new job starts next week, and so, moved into a hotel in town for a two day staycation. While we were away we kept saying how great it would be to be tourists in our own city so that’s exactly what we’ve done today.

We spent the day wandering around, relaxing in our hotel, having afternoon tea, drinking bubbles, and shortly, we’re off for a delicious dinner. Of course all of this wouldn’t be complete without a very special lipstick, which leads me on to today’s choice, YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats in shade 205, Prune Virgin.

Most of you will know how obsessed I am with YSL lipsticks, they are just so creamy and hydrating, and the pigment is always perfect so as we were coming on our little trip today, I decided to buy this especially for the day that was in it.

Now, as you can tell from the title, this lipstick is meant to be matte, but I think you’ll agree it doesn’t really have a matte finish. So it does loses points for that and if you’re specifically looking for a matte finish, it’s not going to be your best option.

However for me, I just absolutely love this shade so while my darling YSL has let me down just a little bit with the finish, I still love this lippy and will happily wear it for ever more!

Catch you all tomorrow for day 19 where we’ll be spending the day as tourists by doing the city bus tour and visiting some of Dublin’s best sights. Make sure you stop by and have a read of what shade will be coming along with me!

Don’t forget to come follow my journey over on my social media pages too, or you can just search for the #simplylippy and #365days365shades hashtags on InstagramTwitter and Facebook either.

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 7 | YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Shade 13, Le Orange

I can’t believe it, one week down in my Simply Lippy challenge and it all went great. I’m sure the excitement is keeping me going at the moment, but I’m really getting into the swing of things and so glad I decided to do this challenge.

If any of you still aren’t sure what the Simply Lippy challenge is about, you can catch up here, and for those of who who’ve been following me for the last while, I really hope you’re enjoying all my lipstick options and blog posts. Don’t forget to send any suggestions my way, and if there’s any lipsticks you are dying to try but want to know what they are like before you buy, then let me know those too so I can give them a test run for you!

I’ve worn a gorgeous mix of colours for my first week, and as these are lipsticks that I already own, I do love all the shades. In fact, I pretty much love all the lipsticks and lip products I own, but I do have my favourites, so the real challenge will be testing out new shades and brands once I run out of my collection!

Anyway, it’s Saturday today and I’m off for a family lunch so I wanted wear a special lippy today. Because of that, I decided to go for one of my favourite ever lipsticks in life, YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in shade 13, Le Orange. I’ve written about my love for this lippy before which you can read here, but it is quite literally one of the best lipsticks I have ever worn. It is creamy, it is opaque, it is long lasting, it is hydrating, and best of all, it smells frickin’ divine!

I’ve been wearing this particular shade for about five years now, but there are over forty shades in the collection. If you haven’t tried this range by YSL, I would highly recommend you do. Call it a January treat when you get paid cause these guys are expensive! In saying that, if I could only have one lipstick for the rest of my life, this would most definitely be it. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty sad to be using it so early in the challenge, but it’s the perfect 0range-red shade for my family day out today.

I’ve always been drawn to rich colours, I wear a lot of oranges, corals, reds and burgundy tones – someone once told me it’s because my star sign is Leo which is ruled by the sun. Who knows, but it could explain why these are always my go-to shades in both beauty and fashion. I just love them!

Don’t forget to come follow my journey over on my social media pages too, or you can just search for the #simplylippy and #365days365shades hashtags on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook either.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Simply Lippy Challenge Day 1 | YSL Vernis Ă€ Lèvres Vinyl Cream Liquid Lipstick

It’s here! The first post of my 2017 Simply Lippy challenge.

For those of you who missed all the details of my challenge, you can catch up by clicking here, but basically, I have challenged myself to wear a different lip product every day for each of the 365 days of 2017. Eeeek!

I’m lippy obsessed as I’m sure most of you already know, so I thought this would be a good, fun way for me to keep focussed on blogging this year, and also give me a chance to play around with my favourite of all the makeup products, lipstick. So here it goes…

Day 1

Today’s lippy of choice is one of my favourite lippy releases of 2016, the YSL Vinyl Liquid lipstick in shade 402. Every girl needs a good red lipstick in her makeup bag and this shade is just to die for. It is a silky, rich red shade perfect for a wintery day like today, and therefore the perfect shade to welcome the New Year and kick off my Simply Lippy challenge.

Although this is a liquid lipstick, it has all the staying power of a regular lippy and the colour payoff is incredible (you can read my in-depth review all about them here).

To kick off the challenge I decided to get really adventurous and record a video. It’s my first ever Simply Sorcha Vlog so please bare with me, it’s not great but I’m hoping you get the idea. I won’t be filming every day of the challenge, with work and every day life I just won’t have the time, but I’m definitely going to try film as much as possible to mix things up a bit. Here’s a look at my first attempt…

I’d really love to know your thoughts on the challenge so please comment below. I’m also going to need LOTS of recommendations on lippies to try to make sure I get to the 365 day mark so please send me all your suggestions too!

Don’t forget to can follow my journey on my social media pages or by searching for the #simplylippy and #365days365shades hashtags on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

For now I’ll leave you with my red lip, and I’ll catch you all tomorrow for Day 2!
